Hold your horses ladies, it looks as though our wardrobes are about to be given a decidedly masculine update (well, kind of) – menswear designer Micheal Bastian is launching his first collection for women!

The New York designer, who’s been nominated twice for Menswear Designer of the Year Award at the CFDA’s, no less, is teaming up with US label Gant to create a capsule collection for AW10, but it gets better – he’s designed his debut womenswear collection for the brand, too.

“For a while now I’ve been thinking about expanding into women’s design, and I’m really happy and grateful that Gant is giving me this opportunity,” he says of the collaboration. “I’m very excited to begin exploring who the female counterpart is to my Gant guy. While he is pretty straightforward and sporty, I feel the Gant by Michael Bastian girl will be a little more of a surprise.”

Bastian will be previewing his SS11 women’s line for Gant exclusively at New York Fashion Week tomorrow and will unveil it to UK press next month, but if, like us, you can’t wait that long, we’ve got a little sneak peek of what to expect.

Take a peek at the clip below to see a snippet of what his first women’s offering has in store – from what we’ve seen, it’s got a decidedly French retro feel with tailored separates, crisp whites and cat-eye shades… we can’t wait to take a closer look when it lands next month.
