It was a busy, busy weekend in the Big Apple, as designers continued to showcase their autumn/winter 2013 offerings as part of New York Fashion Week.
Victoria Beckham went for longer lengths for the colder season, but avoided the collection being glum by ensuring there was plenty of colour in there too – there were some particularly loud yellow pieces in there that we think will translate onto the pavements quite nicely.
We were pretty excited to see what new Balenciaga creative director Alexander Wang had up his sleeve for his eponymous label, and we weren’t disappointed. Pretty easy to see why the designer was chosen for the job if his latest collection is anything to go by. Fuzzy, furry and hairy are words we can associate with his latest range, which is pretty apt considering the weather. The colour palette was predominantly in the grey zone, and silhouettes were baggy, oversized and generally forgiving.
Monique Lhuillier gave us stunning cocktail and eveningwear dresses (above), as expected, with a few luxury outerwear pieces thrown in the mix for good measure, and the DKNY collection was laden with fun and funky pieces fit for the coolest of fashionistas. Lots of statement prints and bold colours – and a drool-worthy coat modelled by Miss Cara Delevingne! Prabal Gurung’s collection was another stand-out one for us – we love the strong military presence and the pristine, fine tailoring.
