With the majority of us staying at home more now, finding fun things to do is more important than ever. The thing with choosing activities is that, usually, no one knows what they want to do. The conversation typically goes:
A: So, what do you want to do?
B: I don’t know. What do you want to do?
And so on. To avoid that, it’s better to think about what you will be doing beforehand. Have no idea? Well, don’t worry, as we got you. Here are a few tips, or rather ideas, on how to organize a nice and cozy family-friendly evening.
Bake or Cook Something Together
Children love to observe their parents as they do simple tasks, such as cooking. So why not engage them with it? Since it’s autumn, it is the perfect time to organize a grill, especially if you just bought a new one that is just sitting outside, unused.
If you don’t have one yet, you should really consider buying one, as there is no better way of spending the summer than organizing BBQ parties with your friends and family – and if you buy one from a reliable source, such as outdoorcookingpros.com, you can be sure that it will last you for a good few years.
Going back to the topic – engaging your kids in cooking can be quite beneficial for them.
By teaching them how to do it, you are helping – you are teaching them the math (as silly as it sounds, cooking cannot really go with at least a little bit of math); how to prepare healthy foods, and therefore lowering the chances of them developing obesity; appreciation of what it takes to prepare a meal, and nutritional control, as by doing exactly what you showed them when they were young, they will be able to give their organism what it needs later on.
Movie Night
While this is probably one of the most obvious ways of spending an evening with your family, it is still fun, and it’s a great idea if your children are not the same age, as everyone can choose something to watch. Order a pizza, open your Netflix account (if you have one, and if you don’t, you can always be more old school and rent a movie), and grab everything you need to make yourself comfortable, such as blankets or pillows.
After the movie, you can have an interesting conversation about what you have just watched – what character did you like the most, and which the least? What did you think about the plot? What did you like or dislike about the movie?
Game Night
This is another obvious choice – who doesn’t like playing games? However, there are some ways in which you can make it more interesting. Consider playing for something. For example, the person who loses has to do the dishes the next day or do ten jumping jacks. The sillier the thing they have to do is, the more fun it will bring.
If you are tired of board games, don’t worry – there are many other things that you can do during a game night. If you have small children, you should consider playing something that will tire them out so that they can easily fall asleep later on – for example, tag or a DIY obstacle course.
If you have slightly older children or no children at all, you should consider organizing a game night with puzzles instead of games. Once it is completed, you can stick it on a bristol board and use it as a home decoration. Another thing you can do is to play video games instead of regular board games. There are many motion-controlled video games, such as ‘Just Dance‘ or ‘Kinect Sports,’ that will not only make the night fun but will also bring a little bit of physical activity to it.
The Bottom Line
Finding time to spend with your family can be quite hard – especially today, as everyone is busy with their own responsibilities. However, to keep a healthy family life, you should find at least a little bit of time, so that you can all spend it together.
There are several things you can do during a family-friendly evening, such as cooking, watching movies, or playing video games. What will you choose to do depends mainly on how old your children are, and what you and your family members like to do.
No matter which one it will be, we wish you a lot of fun!
