It is probably an indicator that we watch way too much X Factor that when we think of the asymmetry trend, we think of Dannii Minogue – a loyal friend to the asymmetrical dress.
With this is mind, Minogue must have been rubbing her hands with glee after seeing some of the fall 2009 collections. Here are just a few labels that went for the one-shoulder look:
Calvin Klein
Francisco Costa created softer lines for this season’s collection, which screamed effortless sophistication. His black, draped asymmetrical number was the kind of creation we’ve come to expect from the label, but his final cut-out, one-shouldered piece was the winner in our books.
Lanvin
Alber Elbaz does asymmetry well. Subtle and demure yet supremely elegant, we defy anyone to say they don’t like Lanvin. Elbaz holds on to what he does best, by adding to and altering ideas from previous collections to produce entirely new pieces. We love the simplicity of this draped number – and the fact that it’s velvet.
Oscar de la Renta
Where do we start? Oscar de la Renta might just be the king of luxury eveningwear and this dress does everything to prove just that. The striking palette enhances the modern feel of this romantic dress but for those after a more fun and flirty look, de la Renta took the hemline higher in red and purple, asymmetrical brights.
