Bids at the ready: two dresses designed by the late, great Alexander McQueen from his AW07 collection are set to go up for auction at the end of this month – but you’ll need big bucks if you stand a chance of getting your hands on them.

And let’s hope all prospective buyers out there are comfortable with a bit of hocus pocus, too – the dresses in question come from McQueen’s famous ‘Salem’ collection, inspired by a distant relative, Elizabeth How, who was convicted of being a witch during the Salem witch trials.

But back to the fashion essentials. The first dress, a heavily embellished gold floor-length gown (the one Holly Valance wore to this year’s Brit Awards days after the designer’s death), is estimated to sell for somewhere in the region of £12,000 – £18,000, while the second design, a cream column dress with a gold feathered bustier, is expected to reach between £10,000 and £14,000, according to Vogue UK.
