Day one of London fashion week started on Saturday and by the end of the day my feet were killing me. Unfortunately I did not take my own advice but it was all worth it. Highlight of the day aside from the shows was meeting fellow bloggers Gemma from Catwalk Queen, Susie from Style Bubble, and Ronke from Musings of an Ondo Lady! So….it all kicked of for me at Caroline Charles, followed by Ben de Lisi, Bora Aksu and ended with Unconditional.
Caroline Charles
Caroline Charles was a disappointment. It was a confusing show with a lot of confused faces in the front row. (I didn’t intend that to rhyme I promise) The collection was filled with lots of kaftans, zebra prints, embellishments and straw hats. Granted….it was a mature collection but unfortunately a dated one.
Ben De Lisi
Entertainment before the Ben De Lisi show came in the form of socialite, Tara Palmer Tomkinson who had the paparazzi clicking away and she loved it!
But once the drama ended and the lights went down Ben De Lisi presented a collection that cemented his status as the master of evening wear. De Lisi stepped out of us his comfort zone which was pleasantly surprising and refreshing at the same time. There was a strong holiday/60’s vibe about the collection and according to the press release in his goodie bag (which was filled with one bottle of Evian water) it was for the “beach bar, dance floor, poolside, yacht party, summer in the Hamptons and cruising the Med. The collection was a vibrant one with a lot of bright colours, maxi dresses as well as minis and the most amazing shift dresses made from silver disc organdie. The show was a success but I just wish he’d decided against the ill placed corsages on the shoulder of some of his evening dresses.
Bora Aksu
For a split second I thought Bora Aksu made a mistake and presented his collection for autumn/winter rather than spring/summer. Colours were quite subdued but his use of mustard made me fall head over heels for the yellow shade. It was a well constructed collection with lashings of fabric, lots of layering and gorgeous pleated skirts.
Stay tuned….more to come!
