We all know we should be doing our bit for the environment, and using reusable shopping bags is a great way to help. They stepped into the fashion limelight when Anya Hindmarch designed her ‘I’m not a plastic bag‘ eco tote bag and it sold out everywhere.
Since then, various designers have attempted to emulate her, with various degrees of success.
Jil Sander’s Market striped silk shopper bag, I have to admit, I’m just not taken with. I respect that it’s made from silk but the whole point of shoppers is that they are, in general, eco-friendly and money-conscious.
I’m also a bit dubious about the design. I love quirky prints but, like the name suggests, this really does look a bit too market. The green and white stripe print looks similar to something my grandma carries her apples home in from the market on a Saturday morning.
I’m also not overly enamoured with the wide handles and the way it sits on your arm.
Regardless, fashionistas are clambering to get Jil Sander’s market bags, and if you have a quirky style, you might just make this work with your look. But otherwise, if you want a simple shopper bag, save your £290 and get a cute one from somewhere on the high street. Simple.
