Next Monday will see New York’s Costume Institute at the Met Museum open its doors to the brand new Alexander McQueen exhibition – oh, and British socialite Daphne Guinness will be getting dressed in the window of Barneys superstore for the event, to honour her late friend and the evening itself.
But if one thing’s for certain, the respectable Ms. Guinness will not be getting naked in the name of fashion.
“I am not doing a burlesque — no way,” said Daphne. “I’m going to be getting dressed behind something. I’m not Dita Von Teese, nor shall I be.”
Initially, the plan was to display some of Daphne’s clothes in the store’s shop windows with little notes stating where Guinness wore each and every one of the items. “Like a social diary,” said Dennis Freedman, the store’s creative director. “Then Daphne said, ‘Why don’t I get dressed in your window?’ I thought, ‘Oh, my God, of course.’ ”
Daphne will be expected to appear in the window at around 5 p.m, with four other of the Barneys windows displaying items from her clothing collection, including Philip Treacy’s hats and some of the stuff she acquired when she bought the late Isabella Blow’s entire McQueen collection, reports the Cut.
