The biggest shock of the Orange BAFTA 2012 red carpet came courtesy of a sublime Michelle Williams, who shunned the big name designers in favour of a custom-made monochrome gown from high street favourite H&M. Who would have thunk it?

Fearne Cotton braved the cold all night in a stunning salmon Moschino dress, while Viola Davis also decided to sport – and rock- the colour in a one-shouldered Valentino dress.

Metallics and golds were very popular last night, with the likes of Emilia Fox, Gillian Anderson, Jessica Chastain, Christina Ricci and Holliday Grainger among those rocking the trend.

Vivienne Westwood did well on the red carpet, with the legendary Meryl Streep and curvaceous Christina Hendricks both looking phenomenal in her plunging designs.

We know that Victoria Beckham was bombarded with requests for The Oscars, but she also got one of her gowns on the BAFTA red carpet, as Melissa George wore a gorgeous black, sequined number – complete with a flowing dramatic train, no less. The hair is also impeccable!

We were in awe of Miss Piggy, who shone on the carpet in a Louis Vuitton dress made especially for her by Marc Jacobs himself. We once again adored Tilda Swinton’s look, and Penelope Cruz was, as always, utterly divine.
