The autumn/winter 2012 runways brought us several super-covetable trends, but nothing matches up to the beauty of the new season power couple, the trouser suit.
Firmly taken out of the office after being injected with copious amounts of fashion fun and endless styling possibilities for A/W12, trend pioneer Miuccia Prada set the bar high. Her Plexiglas-embellished trouser suits in eccentric head-to-toe prints and colours bright enough to make your eyes hurt are must-haves!
YSL’s sexed-up, feminine version of a mannish suit, complete with a sharply cut cropped jacket, cinched at the waist, and a loosely tailored ankle skimming trouser was a feast for the eyes.
Over at Louis Vuitton we were treated to a heavily embellished version of the trouser suit, while Acne, true to it’s minimalist-with-an-edge ethos, gave us winter’s version of colour-blocking – (think berry-hued suits underlined with nude high-neck blouses, and striking black with dusky pink and blue pairings).
The only rule for wearing the trouser suit this season is that there are no rules! No need to play it safe and matchy-matchy, instead mismatched suits are the way forward. Experiment with print, cut and, of course, wear the trouser suit around the house to your heart’s content, because it’s no longer the reserve of scary boardroom women who look like they’ll devour you with their eyes!
