Jennifer Lopez and Kelly Brook; two ladies from opposite sides of the pond, but both famed for making heads turn with displays of their, erm, generous derrieres and a penchant for dare-me-to-split dresses that perfectly showcase their enviable curves.
Welcome to this week’s frock-off between J-Lo in an Edition by Georges Chakra, SS’12 number at her World Tour post party in Las Vegas, and Kelly in a bum-flashing (ahem), form-fitting, embellished mesh floor-length gown at the Keith Lemon: The Film premiere in London.
Here’s what we thought…
Fashion News Ed, Maria says:
‘Jen showed off her amazingly enviable body in that dress – how is it possible to have a bod like that after giving birth to twins? I loved her accessorising too, but I think she played it a bit safe by trying to be very matchy matchy. She could have gone for some bright pumps (maybe pink or yellow?) which would have worked just as well but in all honesty no one is really complaining about J-Lo here. Least of all me! The hair gives the look a bit of a personal twist as I know Jen likes her experimental hairstyles. Who can forget those iconic braids…’
‘Kelly wins this one for me just because she can do no wrong when she does that 1950’s vintage pin-up girl thing with her hair. Kel proves that you don’t need to flash the flesh to show the world the wonderful curves God blessed you with… and judging by the smile on her face I think she knows that. Flawless!’
Amy @wolfwhistle says:
‘I love a bad pun so I can’t resist saying that this is nautical but nice on J-Lo – badda boom! But it’s not great: there’s a bit of a style clash between the dress and the accessories. She is usually excellent at dressing her figure but I can’t help but wish this was on Katy Perry instead, teamed with a sailor hat, some Vivienne Westwood x Melissa heart pumps and a cheeky wink.’
‘Hot damn, I do not like anything about this. I hate the visible knickers, I hate the weird make-up, I hate that nude strap (dudes, is that her bra?), I hate the pattern that looks like the most half-hearted dribbling firework display ever. Kelly, I’m sure you’re a nice girl. You deserve better than this.’
Features Ed, Farhana says:
‘Although Jen’s look doesn’t have me jumping with sartorial joy, it’s an apt look for a World Tour post party. After all, the killer outfits are for the stage, right? I do like the catwalk-fresh cobalt blue colour of the dress, and the matching accessories. Overall, a meh effort, but one I can forgive Ms. Lopez for!”
‘Kelly. Oh, Kelly. Deary me. Not sure whether this was an attempt to woo ladies’ man Keith Lemon on the red carpet, but it surely doesn’t go down well with the critics! I do not wish to see body parts designed to be concealed in public, save for a flashing smile and a decent slice of décolletage! Colour? OK. Design? No. Weird frou-frou detailing and questionable wristlet bag? No way!’
Fash-off champion: J-Lo. For bringing sexy back in a curve-clinging number, even though next time it warrants a better comeback!
