Did you go and see Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby at the weekend? If, like us, you were totally inspired by the costumes and décor in the film but don’t feel brave enough to paint the town red in full-on flapper girl attire then you’re in luck, as we’ve discovered a new way to embrace the 20s theme of the movie… Instead of dressing yourself, why don’t you dress your windows instead? Direct Blinds has just launched a brand new collection of designs inspired by F Scott Fitzgerald’s classic American novel, and they’re sure to spruce up the rooms in your house by giving them a classic make-over while paying homage to one of the biggest films of the year at the same time. Read MoreCarey Mulligan rocks Lanvin for Great Gatsby world premiere
All eyes were on Carey Mulligan last night, as the actress attended the world premiere of The Great Gatsby in New York. Seeing as Miuccia Prada designed no less than 40 pieces for the Baz Luhrmann film, we would have bet quite a hefty sum of money that the leading lady would be wearing a Prada or Miu Miu number, but she surprised everyone by opting to wear Lanvin instead. What do you think of her decision? Yes, it’s a bit of a shock, but we can see why she went for the red hot Lanvin piece – Carey looks absolutely sensational. Carey’s minimal look is worlds away from her styling in the film; instead of adding a chunky or sparkly necklace or bracelet to her look, the actress kept all accessories to a minimum, letting the dress do all the talking. It’s an unexpected look and as much as we love it, we are kind of hoping to see some more glamour and sparkle for some of the other premieres. What say you?

Not long to go until The Great Gatsby hits the big screen now, which means it won’t be long ‘til we see all the dresses Miuccia Prada created for the film. The designer reportedly dug up 40 dresses from the Prada and Miu Miu vault and adapted them accordingly, but how did she go about selecting the looks for the Baz Lurhmann film? “When I read the book, it was psychological. It was not about glamour for me,” she said. “It was a real study of personality, very internalised. “It was meant to be about light. It became about money, because Luhrmann wanted to show her as the most beautiful and rich woman on earth.” The designer also confessed that although the costumes now have a 20s feel to them, she didn’t necessarily have that era in mind when she first designed them for the respective Prada and Miu Miu collections… “The point of view can transform things so much,” she continued. “Almost none were meant to be Twenties when I did them. I was really fascinated by that.” We’re fascinated too! Are you excited to see all the pieces in all their glory? [Vogue]

When we heard that Beyonce would be covering the late Amy Winehouse’s iconic song Back to Black for the upcoming The Great Gatsby film, we had mixed feelings. It won’t take a genius to work out that we love Beyonce, but we weren’t sure how well a cover version – which she created with André 3000 – would go down with Amy’s fans and family. And it appears we were right…. “I don’t think she brings anything to it,” Mitch said about the cover version “I wasn’t asked for my permission if they could record it. They have got to pay for the privilege, which is what they are doing. I can’t tell you how much it is but it’s a lot of money.” Yikes; you can hear a snippet of Bey’s rendition on the Great Gatsby trailer which you can see below. What do you think? Don’t forget, the film hits cinemas on May 16th! [Glamour]

It seems like we have been waiting forever for the highly anticipated release of The Great Gatsby, but we haven’t got long until it officially lands in cinemas. So with that in mind, what better woman to cover the latest issue of the fashion bible than the film’s leading lady? Yep, Carey Mulligan – who plays Daisy Buchanan – is indeed the American Vogue May cover star, and she is naturally posing pretty for Mario Testino in her Great Gatsby getup. We have to say that we love the shot, and the cover in general – not only is it paying tribute to the film but it’s totally relevant; the bright yellow Oscar de la Renta dress is perfect for a May cover! And check all that bling out – we bet Carey Mulligan literally felt like a million Dollars (maybe even more) on her cover shoot. As we slowly begin to approach the festive period, there’s a strong chance you are already looking for your next outfit for that special event. If you’re not, then this might give you some inspiration! One of the most elegant evenings you could attend, or even host, is a Gatsby-themed party. Glamorous with an unforgettable 1920s vibe, a Gatsby theme includes eye-catching features, from the décor to your ensemble. A Gatsby event requires so much more than just throwing on any old outfit; it needs a stunning, beautifully-constructed evening gown. Full of glitziness and fascination, a Gatsby party creates a captivating environment filled with luxury; something that your choice of dress should match perfectly! Floor length hemline When you picture the era of Gatsby, you might be conjuring up images of short, fringed dresses and feather head pieces; but there was so much more to it than that. The 1920s period was home to desirably impressive bandage dresses, usually with calf length hems, and dazzling accessories. Every girl’s dream, wouldn’t you say? Bringing the Gatsby era into the 21st century, you might want to think about a floor length gown. Dresses that flow gracefully o the floor create a heightened appearance of glamour and make sure you look the part all night long. Investing in a floor length, designer evening dress provides you with a flawless ensemble for your next occasion. Read MoreWill Gatsby gear be the film-fash inspiration of the year?
[noskim] Film releases and fashion trends go hand in hand. Last year, the Hunger Games – and Jennifer Lawrence – gave brown leather jackets and flat boots a boost when black biker jackets and heels ruled the roost. This year, we’re spending plenty of time pondering where our next film-fash inspo might be coming from. One fairly safe bet is Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, which is due for release in May. Baz loves a bit of bling in the costume department – remember Nicole Kidman in that sparkly corset and top hat combo in Moulin Rouge? So, when you take into account Luhrman’s love of the lavish coupled with the seriously stylish Ivy League leavers the film follows and throw into the mix the fact everything takes place at the start of the roaring twenties – you should get film-fash gold. Yes, we are already getting in a bit of a Gatsby flap. After convincing us we could pull off a crop, Carey Mulligan – as Daisy Buchanan – is now set to start a scarf revival. Luckily she’s teaming it with a sleek, blonde, bob – a style more than a handful of us already fancied for summer. Style yourself in Ms Daisy’s footsteps and choose classy kimonos and trousers, dresses embellished with lace and sequins, feathers and heavenly headwear. Of course, you don’t need to be as full-on as Ms Daisy. We like this Alice By Temperley lace number. It’s a little shorter than 20s styles but the embroidered décolletage and mesh sleeves make it classy and easy to wear and it’s not quite as in your-face bling as some of the sequin dresses in the movie, which might not be quite so wearable. You could wear this with kitten heels or even bring it up to […]

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West aren’t the only ones we need to say congratulations to this morning – Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen also deserves a hearty congrats too, as it’s just been announced that she is the new face of the iconic and timeless fragrance Chanel No.5. Gisele will be working with Baz Luhrmann for the ad campaign, so we’re pretty excited to see what the pair come out with. The last time the Great Gatsby director worked on a Chanel No.5 advert was with Nicole Kidman back in 2004 (exactly 10 years ago – doesn’t that make you feel old?), and we all know how incredible that ad was! Akin to Nicole, we expect to see Gisele rocking some of the finest Chanel creations for her video and print campaigns and since there’s no shortage of intricate Chanel piece to choose from, we are confident she’s going to blow us away. The ad is slated for release later this year so watch this space! [Grazia]

With the arrival of May and summer just around the corner (even if the British weather belies this fact sometimes) now is the time to start thinking about getting that warm weather wardrobe up and running – as well as the accessories that accompany it. The jewellery you’ll be wearing will play a big part in this of course, but what can you expect to find gracing the parks, beaches and festivals this summer? Online jewellery retailer Nigel O’Hara offers up 5 trends that you should be considering this season. Take a Walk on the Wild Side Animal-inspired jewellery is really big right now, and here at Nigel O’Hara we love it for the exotic and powerful statement is can make. Not only does it have aesthetic benefits, but it can also prove to be a real conversation piece! Art-deco Inspiration Last year’s re-release of the film ‘The Great Gatsby’ was one of many factors triggering the recent renaissance of the classic art-deco style, and here at Nigel O’Hara we have a huge range of stunning pieces that can help juxtapose a modern wardrobe with some flapper-chic. Get Green this Summer Green is a colour that can work all year round, but during the summer is when it really comes into its own, evoking memories of summer day picnics and hikes through the forest. Jewellery and accessories with bright, fresh hues of green are ideal for accompanying floating summer dresses or even jeans and a tee, so make it a part of your wardrobe this summer. Electric Colours Electric colours such as oranges, pinks and bright yellows can be a little bit much if overused in an outfit, however by just adding hints of them via jewellery for example, you can really add some pop to a summer wardrobe. Read MoreVictoria Victoria Beckham drop-waist dress: Yay or Nay?
It’s fabulous because… Well, let’s face it: Victoria Beckham is a bona fide fashion designer, and with every season creating a bigger hype than the one before it, she keeps getting stronger. Dubbed the “enormous cloud dress,” VB was the first one to sport this Victoria Victoria Beckham drop-waist textured dress (£855), during New York Fashion Week back in September. Although a far cry from her form-fitting favourites, it won the fashion critics over, thanks to embracing this season’s biggest trends: pastels and oversize silhouettes. Why we’re saying totally yay Interesting silhouette: Who doesn’t love a shake-up of traditional shapes? This drop-waist silhouette is a novel take on the prim, feminine form we associate with VB’s designs. Yes, please. Easy-to-style colour: Crafted in the softest dusty blue, this dress will prove a dream when it comes to summer dressing – literally! Zero accessories needed: Making such a statement in itself, if you’re looking for an accessory-free party look, then this dress is a must. No embellishments needed. And, erm, maybe nay Possible trend-focused piece: Although VB has mastered drop-waists before; this dress is a very strong detour from her usually composed designs. Given its look-at-me-now credentials, there’s a chance it could end up in the one-wear-then-despair pile. Drop-waist fit not always flattering: We love the time-preserved drop-waist style (thanks, Carey Mulligan in The Great Gatsby!), but it’s not suited to all body types. Although this dress boats the ability to covertly hide past indulgences, its ‘cloud-like’ outline could actually hamper the effects, making you appear bigger on the bottom half than you actually are! Price: At £855 a pop, you’ll be hard-pressed to cough up the rent when you land your mitts on this. Well, you could try explaining the VB effect to your landlord… Victoria Victoria Beckham drop-waist textured dress, £855, […]
Read MoreWATCH: Milan Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Dolce and Gabbana, Versace, Roberto Cavalli & more
It was a busy weekend in Milan, with the likes of Versace, Roberto Cavalli, Jil Sander, Dolce and Gabbana and Bottega Veneta all unveiling their new autumn/winter 2014 collections to their adoring public. Dolce and Gabbana AW14 Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana were inspired by all things dream-like for their ‘Enchanted Sicily’ Dolce and Gabbana autumn/winter 2014 collection. Despite the intricacy of the pieces and the overall new season vision, the collection was very simplistic, with medieval influences creeping through every so often. Bold, exaggerated shoulders, woodland inspired prints throughout as well as flower and key embellishments, and even a new type of handbag that even requires a padlock; it was all in there! Our highlight was definitely the finale, as this time round we were treated to a parade of sparkly yet somewhat gothic Tinkerbells strutting down the catwalk. Can you get on board with looking like a gothic fairy for the new season? The Dolce and Gabbana boys certainly make it look appealing don’t they? Versace AW14 Donatella Versace also pulled out all the stops for the Versace autumn/winter 2014 show – no surprises there, really. “This is a collection about the power of a woman, not just her inner strength, but the attitude she presents to the world. Every woman can find that power in Versace,” she said of the new collection. Powerful and provocative are definitely two words which can be used to describe the majority of the new season pieces; an abundance of bias-cut dresses made their way onto the Italian catwalk, as did asymmetric hems, military references, and stunningly tailored trapeze coats in bold and vivid colour palettes. Oh, and lots and lots of fur. Long fur, short fur and all other fur in-between! Roberto Cavalli AW14 Another designer who went for the over-the-top […]

In the fashion world, you’ve barely entered one season before you’re looking ahead to the next. That’s why it’s best to nail spring fashion this Christmas, so you can be ahead of the game by the time we’re looking towards summer! Here are some great gold and silver accessories that you can wear throughout the festive season: Medusa Necklace In Greek mythology, Medusa had the ability to turn anyone who looked directly at her to stone. Pretty useful ability, but this silver statement from Versace comes with no such caveats. We love the legendary look of the chain and gorgon head. Become a Grecian Goddess today! Safety Pin Earring Looks a little painful, but this earring from Viktor & Rolf’s the perfect addition to any rebel girl’s wardrobe. Match with silver studded shirts to complete the look. It’ll definitely get you noticed, if nothing else. Feather Choker This beautiful, winged statement accessory is from Balenciaga and seems to follow the mythological theme. It looks absolutely gorgeous with an off-the-shoulder top or dress, which shows off its stunning detail. Coil Necklace This reminds us of a Celtic torc (we’re sensing a pattern with this year’s accessories). Thanks Altuzarra for providing us with this lovely piece. Match gold accessories with a red lip and a white tunic this year for a timeless, glam Roman ensemble. Silver Envelope Clutch This clutch from Herve Leger will go superbly with a glitzy silver occasion dress this year, whether that’s for the Christmas office party or New Years’ Eve. It’s large enough to keep all your valuables together, without being too heavy and unwieldy. All you need is a set of pearl necklaces to complete the look. Gold on Gold You need a good pair of shades, even in winter. Seriously, that snow glare when the […]
Read MoreSienna Miller vs. Isla Fisher…Who wore Dolce & Gabbana better?
We challenge you to track down a dress by the Dolce boys that fails to send hearts aflutter! The latest two ladies, one dress situation making us swoon over lashings of signature lace and floral print comes courtesy of red carpet darlings Sienna Miller and Isla Fisher. First up to slip into the pretty-sexy gown was Isla Fisher, who took to the red carpet for the world premiere of The Great Gatsby back in May. Accessorising with a Roger Vivier clutch and her trademark strawberry blonde barnet, swept elegantly to one side; a slick of red on the lips completed Isla’s stunning look. But catching up in the style stakes was Brit lady Sienna Miller, who sported a midi version of the same gown to celebrate The Global Fun at the Aspley House, last month. Carrying a leopard print box clutch, and ditching heels for pointed slingback flats, Sienna’s look was topped of with nude makeup, and her famed mussed up glossy hair, worn casually down. So, whose look is a winner? The gown-cum-dress in question is quite an eye-pleasing creation to stare at all day long, but we’re going to give the style cred to Isla on this one. There’s something sensuous about the longer length, and we love Isla’s overall styling. But Sienna’s flat shoe choice lets the whole dress down, and we all know a sexy Dolce number always needs standout heels to accompany it! Agree with our style verdict? Whose look do you prefer? Tell us your thoughts below. [Images: Zimbio]

Even though it’s August, the drop in temperature makes it totally acceptable to talk about another autumn/winter 2013 collection – and they don’t come more chic than the latest offering from Reiss! Reiss has gone back to the twenties for its autumn/winter 2013 line, incorporating classic, Great Gatsby-like detailing with modern day structures and silhouettes. All in all, you can expect a very versatile collection from Reiss for the new season; there’s something for every person as well as for every occasion. And although there are some new, contemporary pieces in the mix, many of the classic pieces have been reworked and re-mastered, so you know you’re getting the Reiss you know and love with the added bonus of a brand spanking shiny new 2013 makeover. Read MoreNaomi Campbell opens Atelier Versace’s Couture show
Nothing makes a bigger statement like getting one of the world’s biggest supermodels to open the Couture show of one of the biggest fashion House’s in Italy, nay, the world. And that’s exactly what Versace did by tapping Naomi Campbell for the Atelier Versace AW13 Couture show in Paris yesterday. It was the first time Naomi walked a Versace catwalk since Gianni Versace’s death back in 1997, so her appearance was a pretty big deal! Well, most Naomi appearances are, but none more so than this! Donatella Versace was inspired by black and white photography of the 1930s, which she then added her own contemporary twist to… a theme which is more than evident when looking at the colour palette and the Great Gatsby nod throughout the collection. The attention to detail is second to none, as is expected from a Versace catwalk outing, and the sparkles, glitz, glamour – not to mention the amount of flesh on display – was very abundant. The finale piece was without a doubt a favourite in the MFL office; do we think any of the celebs in the front row – the likes of which included Emma Roberts and Uma Thurman – might pull it off on a red carpet? Watch this space! [Telegraph]
Read MoreCarey Mulligan is Best Dressed of the Week in Boss
After a flurry of stunning looks for her The Great Gatsby promo tour, Carey Mulligan took time out to reset the red carpet record with a complete blackout. Attending the BOSS autumn/winter 2013 menswear and womenswear show in Shanghai earlier this week, Carey’s style was a lesson in androgyny, far removed from the super-feminine looks she’s been sporting of late. Carey wore a BOSS blazer, bustier top and tailored trousers, accessorising with Brian Atwood Aida heels and a slick of warm red on her lips. A glowing complexion and chicly swept back up do finished off this rather simple yet striking look, effectively. Although we love a statement accessory or two, we’re digging Carey’s minimal style, as it brings into focus the simplicity of her look without making it seem like a boring boardroom ensemble. The key to getting the androgynous look right is to add feminine accents, and the coloured lip, heels and hair do that perfectly. Image: Vogue

Roaring Twenties The Roaring Twenties describes an era in time filled with style and glamour. This time also gave birth to the ‘flapper’; a young Western woman seeking all the pleasures and excitement that this decade had to offer. With short skirts, bobbed hair and fancy jewellery jiving to the era’s Jazz music, this new woman encapsulated the cultural ‘look’ of the 1920’s. Style and glamour go hand in hand with picking the perfect jewels to wear. Art Deco played an important role within styling in the 1920’s. ‘Art Deco’ represented many things of the era and affected all forms of design that we still see to this day. Designers borrowed from historic European styles, contemporary Avant Garde art and imagery of the machine age; seen in the clean lines that hold the colour of many Art Deco pieces. They also incorporated ancient cultures within designs such as the arts of Africa and East Asia which provided the rich colours and materials (http://www.vam.ac.uk). The Great Gatsby Art Deco styles in jewellery from that era can be seen in ‘The great Gatsby’, Baz Luhrman’s film adaptation of the F.Scott Fitzgerald novel. The jewellery worn by the actress’ are pieces based upon jewellery of the 1920’s; with the strings of pearls and diamonds that are layered in bracelets, necklaces and drop earrings. The headpieces worn in the film are an iconic accessory to the flapper. All the jewellery in the film was designed by Tiffany & Co. who are now featuring ‘The Great Gatsby Collection’ of Art Deco jewellery pieces from the film. The Twenties Collection Within most of the Art Deco jewellery designs pearls play an important part; offering a luxurious coating of creams to any outfit. The luxury jewellery brand, Jersey Pearl, have Art Deco designs in their jewellery with […]
Read MoreNicole Kidman is Best Dressed of the Week in Christian Dior Couture
Undoubtedly, the words on the lips of the sartorial circuit this week are something like Cannes Film Festival. We’ve waxed lyrical with our highlights from day one and two, and we’re not about to stop. Stealing the BDOTW spotlight this week is none other than the gorgeous Nicole Kidman, who wowed us not just with her age-defying looks on the Cannes red carpet (that woman has magical skin!), but every ensemble she pulled out of the bag. Although we wanted to be greedy and profile her every look so far, we chose the one that particularly stood out for us; a strapless floral-embroidered dress from the Christian Dior Spring 2013 Couture collection she wore to the The Great Gatsby premiere at the festival. Making us hyperventilate at the thought of sporting (much, much cheaper) summer florals, Nicole’s breathtaking couture gown was accented to perfection by coral Dior pumps, a pop of colour on the lips and a slick high ponytail. She’s already a Cannes red carpet favourite of ours, but we just couldn’t help crown her Best Dressed, too! We’re pretty sure you won’t disagree either.

Let’s put it this way – everyone on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet looked ruddy fantastic! Instead of inundating you with every single look from the glamorous carpet, we’ll be bringing you our ultimate favourite looks from each day. Day 1 obviously attracted quite the well-dressed bunch of celebs, so we had a bit of a tough time narrowing down our faves. Freida Pinto definitely secures one of our best-dressed spots, as she oozed class and glamour in a floor-length, hot pink number designed by Gucci. An elegant red carpet appearance if ever there was one! Nicole Kidman also gets a mention in her three-quarter length Christian Dior Couture number as she was one of the brightest stars on the red carpet. Way to make a statement and embrace the season! Also wearing Christian Dior Couture was Carey Mulligan, and she definitely deserves a place on our list because we reckon this is the first time she has truly wowed on the red carpet while promoting The Great Gatsby. She always looks good don’t get us wrong, but we think this is a jaw-dropping, defining style moment on her Great Gatsby promo mission. Simple, elegant, bold – and we love the longer locks! Lana Del Rey looked like a true vintage goddess in her monochrome embellished dress – she definitely paid close attention to the Gatsby-inspired glamour theme, and we can’t fault her old Hollywood curls and flawless make-up! Bring on Day 2!

After overloading on Met Ball dresses, and taking in as many The Great Gatsby premiere outfits as we could, we’ve decide to tone things down for this week’s Best Dressed. Going over to the personal red carpet that unfolds before Victoria Beckham’s every heel-shod step (well, it does in our minds), she’s really blown us away with a series of show-stopping, off and on duty outfits this week. First up, spotted out for lunch in Paris, VB looked a day-off-dresser’s dream in high-waisted jeans and a tucked in grey tee. But it’s when we spot her in her own collection that we really fall in love with this lady’s refined style all over again! Arriving at JFK airport, Victoria sported a chic, tri-block colour ensemble of orange wide-leg trousers (we can ear them screaming summer at us), a crisp white shirt and a knee-length black coat. Sophistication defined, we’ve never know airport attire to look so polished. Finishing of this delicious trio of unforgettable looks was Mrs B’s ‘power look’; a purple, front-slit skirt and brown keyhole detail blouse from her autumn/winter 2013-14 collection. Stepping out after a meeting at Bergdorf Goodman, this outfit was sure to seal the deal (not that VB needs much assistance in the business department). Going up Punk fever: The punk revival was well and truly felt at this year’s Met Ball, with added thanks to Miley Cyrus’s outlandish barnet and Madonna’s flesh flashing shenanigans. But will it last? We hope the magical era is here to stay for good, so we can break fashion rules and paint our (not so flat) stomachs with anti-gun slogans. Check out our Punk inspo moodboard for your fix. Gatsby fever: Taking a detour from crazy hair and garish outfits, the other era the fashion world is currently dabbling in is the Roaring Twenties. With Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby set for release next week in the UK, expect a rise in opulent hair accessories, art deco prints and more flapper dresses you can shake a jazz dance move at! Shop our top Gatsby-inspired pieces here. Festival kick off: Although the major headliners are taking place smack bang in the middle of summer, several niche festivals are taking place this month, which can only mean one thing; getting your festival wardrobe into gear. Check out our top 10 picks here. Embellished tees: Luxe tees have been gaining momentum amongst the fash pack for some time now, so when we laid our peepers on the embellished 3.1 Phillip Lim Nueva York tee , we were sold at hello. The new low sandal: Or, dubbed the ‘Elvis’ sandal, thanks to the rhinestone detail; embrace summer’s new take on the gladiator sandal but with a flattering (read: pain-free) heel. Look to Isabel Marant for a high end hit, or Zara and Mango do equally stylish, pocket-friendly versions. Going down Glove sleeves: Come on, Kim! What were you thinking? Dressing to flatter your bump, we understand, is priority, but hand concealing doesn’t really come in to it. Enough said. Winter coats in spring: After experiencing […]
Read MoreThe most serious fash-off ever: Anna Wintour vs. Marc Jacobs in Prada
Yes, you read that right. We’ve stepped into this week’s fash-off with bated breath, because it really is so important. And scary. Last week, at a screening of The Great Gatsby in New York, two fashion gods were united in the same Prada spring/summer 2013 coat. *Cue awkward cough/shuffle* Anna Wintour, who is viewed as nothing less than the Queen Bey of the fashion world (we mean that in power, not booty, terms), would have you believe she has a firm grip over the who-wears-what at high profile events where she is in attendance, ensuring that she is the only one wearing a particular piece from the latest runway collection. Yet, upon coming face-to-face with Marc Jacobs in the exact same look, we figure the expression on both their faces reads something like this: ‘Have we, I mean WE committed the ultimate fashion faux pas?’ But regardless of this sartorial mishap, the most awkward question is yet to come: who do you think wore Prada better? Naturally, Wintour went her signature elegant way, with dainty heels and a pristine bob, whilst Jacobs brought the fun to Prada (not that Prada needs it ) with printed socks and sneakers. Safe to say, we’re remaining undecided on this one; wouldn’t want to experience the wrath of either style deity, frankly speaking! We’ll leave you to decide this week’s fash-off champ… [Image: Telegraph]
Read MoreCarey Mulligan in Prada for Harper’s Bazaar UK June
Anna Wintour really hit the nail on the head when she tapped Carey Mulligan for the American Vogue May cover, but the fashion Bible isn’t the only glossy to feature the gorgeous Great Gatsby star, oh no. Way across the pond, Harpers Bazaar UK has also enlisted the help of the blonde actress to help it shift copies, and we have a feeling the June issue might be one of the magazine’s most popular in years. Especially if the soft but powerful cover image is anything to go by. Carey is wearing a gorgeous, instantly recognisable Prada coat for the newsstand cover– and we have photographer Tom Lorenzo to thank for capturing her in such a beautiful light. We can’t wait to buy this issue and check out the editorial shots and read what she had to say to the mag. What do you guys think?

Read MoreBlaze of glory: 3 must have blazers for spring!
The Blazer – where would we be without it? Utterly versatile, the blazer is both our go-to for that all important job interview and our ante-upper when we’re looking to dress up a pair of jeans. A good blazer really does carry serious fashion mileage, and that’s why we think it’s only right to invest in a good quality piece at the beginning of a new season to see us through all situations – from the office to the dancefloor! The trends for SS12 are by no means subtle, so we’ll be looking to keep our tailoring neutral to offset and complete our outfits perfectly. Looking for something to throw over your Great Gatsby flapper dress? Look no further – the blazer is your friend. Plus, nothing complements a pastel more perfectly than a simple white blazer, and no doubt we’ll be needing a blazer to save our blushes for when we’re donning the SS12 pyjama trend too… So, with that in mind, here are our three must have blazers for Spring/Summer 2012: Michael Kors Long Sleeve Collection Blazer, £215, available from my-wardrobe.com. French Connection Solo Crepe Jacket, £120, available from French Connection. Reiss Jude Drawstring Blazer, Was £195, Now £97, available from Reiss.

This is a guest post by Sarah Driscoll, one of our fabulous competition winners. She’s been hitting the tents at Somerset House as a guest fashion reporter for My Fashion Life to cover as many of London’s spring shows as she can make – find out how she got on when we armed her with a bag full of tickets and sent her packing… Who: Spijkers en Spijkers What: A fairytale-inspired collection of desirable silk dresses and tailored pieces featuring Oriental geometric prints and an evocative delivery of colour that the label is becoming well-known for. Highlights: The diamond-print black and Sahara beige silk dresses and tailored jumpsuits, teamed with oversized, slouchy blazers. Lowlights: The tweed blazer and trouser set that featured at the end of the show looked oddly out of place with the rest of the collection. Overall: The dutch design sisters returned to London to deliver a strong show this season that captured both the Eastern spirit of Arabian Nights and the wonder of vintage Western tales such as The Great Gatsby. Lime yellow and bright coral star and diamond shapes featured on sumptuous silk dresses, worn with low-slung side ponytails and thick tied headscarves. The ethereal sounds of Bjork echoed through the classically ornate room as the dresses and soft blazers billowed softly, evoking a desert fairytale set in warmer, more exotic climes – the dream summer mood. Gaping backs framed with T-bar beaded straps and flapper fringing completed a feminine and highly desirable collection.

Read MoreTop 50 Fashion Designers In The World
Ever wondered who the top 50 fashion designers in the world are? Well, wonder no more. We’ve put together a list most famous fashion designers from around the globe. From past icons to current trailblazers who are setting the trends right now, here’s a comprehensive deep dive into the best fashion designers without whom the fashion industry just wouldn’t be the same. 1. Coco Chanel If there’s one iconic fashion designer who’s influenced the industry more than any other, it’s definitely Coco Chanel. She brought something new to the table, freeing women from the restrictions of frills and corsets, instead offering up simple, comfortable styles. And today, more than 50 years after her passing, her influence is still felt. Coco Chanel’s early life wasn’t an easy one, marked by tragedy and hardship. Her mother passed away when she was young, and she and her siblings had to be raised at an orphanage. Despite everything, Chanel was determined to make a name for herself in the world. Her designs stood out from the crowd, effortless and refined. She transformed fabrics that were traditionally associated with men’s clothing, like tweed and jersey, into chic, comfy pieces for women. The late designer will always be remembered for her creation of the little black dress, which is still a wardrobe staple for many. Chanel also branched out into the fragrance industry, launching her famous Chanel No. 5 perfume in 1921. She was a trendsetter in more ways than one, using groundbreaking marketing techniques to promote her work. And even now, you can spot her signature CC logo anywhere and to this day Chanel is one of the top French fashion brands in the world. 2. Giorgio Armani Giorgio Armani is a name that screams luxury and style, and this Italian designer has been a […]
Read MorePopular and Unique Bridal Jewelry Ideas for Wedding Couples
Bridal jewellery is an important part of any wedding look because it complements the bride’s dress and adds glamour and elegance to the overall ensemble. While traditional diamond engagement rings and pearl bridal jewellery will always be popular, there are also plenty of trendy and unique options available for couples who want to stand out on their special day. Here are a few creative bridal jewellery ideas for wedding couples that go beyond tradition: Coloured gemstones Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but coloured gemstones are a close second. If you want to make a personal statement and veer off the traditional path, coloured gemstones may just be the thing. Sapphires, emeralds, and rubies are all the rage for wedding rings for women and can add a pop of colour to an otherwise traditional all-white ensemble. Mixed metal combinations Mixing different metal tones is another popular trend. Yellow, white, and rose gold are stunning when worn together, which you can use to your advantage by creating a bridal stack on your neck, ears, hands, and wrists. When mixing metals, a good rule of thumb is to aim for balance. Choose a statement jewellery piece that will serve as the focal point, and then look for complementary pieces to achieve a cohesive look. Art deco-inspired pieces Art deco style is making a comeback in the world of bridal jewellery, with its geometric shapes, bold lines, and dramatic designs. Look for pieces that feature art deco-inspired designs, such as diamond-encrusted eternity bands, vintage-inspired engagement rings, and chandelier-style earrings. With a subtle nod to the 1920s and 1930s, these Art Deco wedding accessories make an unforgettable statement and will definitely go well with your Gatsby-inspired dress. Delicate and dainty trinkets If you prefer something more understated and minimalist, consider delicate and dainty […]
Read More5 Creative Ways to Use Mirrors in Your Home Décor
Worried that a mirror will make your small room look even smaller? Or maybe you think that mirrors are only meant for checking your appearance before you leave the house. Whatever your reasons for avoiding mirrors, we’re here to show you that they can actually be a major asset to your home décor. Yes! Mirrors can be used for much more than just making sure your lipstick is on straight. In fact, when used correctly, mirrors can help to make a room look bigger, brighter, and more stylish. Read on for five creative ways that you can use mirrors in your home décor: #1: Mix and Match. One of the best things about mirrors is that they come in all shapes and sizes. And you can use this to your advantage by mixing and matching different mirrors to create an interesting and unique look. For example, you could hang a large rectangular mirror above a console table, and then place smaller round mirrors on either side. Or group together a few different-sized mirrors and create a gallery wall. The possibilities are endless! #2: Use Them as Art. Another great way to use mirrors is to treat them like pieces of art. Hang a mirror in a beautiful frame on your wall, or prop one up on a shelf or mantelpiece. Not only will this add some visual interest to your space, but it will also help to reflect light and make the room look brighter. #3: Create an Optical Illusion. If you want to make a small room look bigger, then mirrors are your best friend. Place a large mirror on one wall, and it will create the illusion of a much bigger space. Or, for a more dramatic effect, try using a floor-to-ceiling mirror. This will really help to […]

The red carpet has been alive this week with a flurry of show stopping looks! From Katy Perry in Vera Wang to Carey Mulligan in red-hot Lanvin, it’s safe to say there’s been a fair bit of serious style contending going on! So naturally, when it came to picking our Best Dressed of the Week, we were, well, stuck! But after much contemplation, Zoe Saldana’s sweetly monochrome look won us over. Zoe attended the ‘Star Trek Into The Darkness’ London premiere wearing a Vionnet Pre-Fall 2013 gown. The embellished black bodice sat atop the white asymmetric skirt to striking effect, offset beautifully by a slick of red on the lips and nails, and a vintage-inspired, side swept hairdo. Rounding off this head turning ensemble are Christian Louboutin peep-toe shoes, as Zoe chose to go clutch free. Her strong stance, the unexpected silhouette and fuss-free styling make this look a deserving winner!
