We understand: celebrities can’t always get it right. Perfection may seem like a never-ending quest for these ‘super-beings,’ but even they’re prone to falling flat on their prettified faces if caught setting a sartorial foot wrong. Making us squirm in our seats this week is Rumer Willis, who wore a very questionable ensemble to the ELLE 5th annual Women in Music concert, earlier this week. Opting for a crop top and ultra-revealing cut-out skirt from the Franziska Fox fall 2014 collection; it’s safe to say she left very little to the imagination. From the waist-up, she looks amazing; the toned abs, tousled, side-swept hair and accessories are on-point. But from the waist-down, it’s a very different story… The figure-hugging skirt features a crotch-revealing cut-out design on one side, making for a pretty tasteless choice in clothing for an occasion celebrating such a great cause. The Sigerson Morrison caged sandals get our vote, but this trashy outfit is definitely worth, erm, trashing! What do you think of Rumer’s look? [Image: Zimbio]

Emma Stone is Worst Dressed of the week in Chanel
Seldom do A-listers set a sartorial foot wrong; but this week, Emma Stone has done just that! Attending the Berlin premiere of her latest film, The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Rise of Electro, the actress wore a Chanel creation from the pre-fall 2014 collection. Featuring an embellished, ankle-grazing maxi skirt and tucked in multi-coloured top, it made for on-the-fence look. We’re not to sure about the gold embroidery sitting again the three-way colour palette, and the exposed heels make the outfit appear awkwardly short, rather than purposefully so. But, it’s not just the outfit that isn’t sitting right with us. The tightly curled do she debuted with this look doesn’t suit the delicate outlook of the outfit; wispy chiffon calls for a softer hairstyle. Props for the make-up, though, and for going sans accessories, as too much would’ve completely written off this look! Although she hasn’t failed to impress, sartorially speaking, during the promotional tour of her film, this look is one that’s let the side down. What do you make of this outfit? [Image: Zimbio]

Sometimes, a look creeps up on the red carpet that we remain undecided about: it’s not bad, nor it is appealing by any means; but it irks our style-appreciating radar and words need to be said! Such a look sending our sartorial signals into overdrive this week (and not for the right reasons) comes courtesy of Dianna Agron, who attended the MOCA 35th anniversary gala hosted by Louis Vuitton last week in a rather peculiar outfit. Naturally wearing a runway-fresh look from the Louis Vuitton autumn/winter ’14 collection; broken down, the outfit isn’t all too bad: an embroidered dress with belted waist makes for a form-flattering look, but the shoe choice has left us a little baffled. And this is the problem runway-to-red carpet looks pose: they appear suited to lofty models, but when ‘real’ women of a petite build sport the same look, the results are very different. Owing to Dianna’s shorter height, the ankle boots seems a little harsh against the floaty style of the dress, and a strappy sandal or simple pump would’ve sufficed to lengthen her overall silhouette. We’re diggin’ that cinched waist, though! What do you make of Dianna’s look? [Image]
Read MoreRita Ora is Worst Dressed of the Week in Adidas
We know, the sports luxe trend has infiltrated our wardrobes for several seasons now. From bomber jackets reigning supreme to track pants and heels becoming de rigeur; it’s as though our wardrobes have transformed into hyper-luxe, walk-in gyms, where a casual ensemble does work for night. But, when the dwellers of A-list land take it upon themselves to literally translate the trend, it’s a more Sporty Spice affair than, say, anything remotely Alexander Wang. Culprit in question this week: Rita Ora, who flashed before our eyes a hyper-floral Adidas tracksuit, complete with impressive ab-flashing crop top (we’re convinced it’s a sports bra). Earlier this year, the 23-year-old British singer confirmed she was working on an autumn/winter 2014 collaboration with the sports brand, and it seems she’s staying true to her business loyalties with this look! Sporting matching sneakers and an ‘early morning’ look about her, there’s something intentionally lazy about this look and we don’t like it. We get it, Rita, you we’re trying to channel a casual cool vibe here, but the attempt fell flat – pretty much like those sneakers! From the lady who has the killer red lip and literal street style down to a T, we’re not impressed with this eyesore of an ensemble. Get it together, Reets, and let this look R.I.P. What do you think of Rita’s tracksuit look? [Image]
Read MoreRosario Dawson is Worst Dressed of the Week in Antonio Berardi
A dismal red carpet style affair is nobody’s friend, and this week, fueling the firework of fashion faux pas is Rosario Dawson. Busy promoting her latest movie, Cesar Chavez, at a premiere in Washington D.C., the actress wore an Antonio Berardi peplum-waist dress, avec a beaming smile. Featuring embellished semi-bat wing sleeves and a waist-cinching silhouette, the dress screamed ‘wrong’ in more ways than one. Beginning with the wayward neckline: it’s far too wide set, and almost falls off the shoulder, making for a rather unflattering final look. Had this dress been sleeveless, there could’ve been hope of salvaging its red carpet status, but, alas! Simple black pumps and small drop earrings completed the look, but we’re not too keen on the dated up-do. The subtly smoky eyes and soft lips perfectly offset against the dark dress but, overall, this look is certainly one not to be repeated. What do you think of Rosario’s look? [Image]
Read MoreSarah Jessica Parker is Worst Dressed of the Week in Dolce & Gabbana
Did we ever imagine Sarah Jessica Parker would encounter a post-SATC wardrobe malfunction? Not really, given she’s besties with Anna Wintour, and has a finger in every fashion pie imaginable. So, when she treated us to TWO faux pas in the space of a few days, we felt a little, well, bemused. Stirring up the fashion rules in Dolce & Gabbana on both occasions, SJP seriously missed the mark with some pretty unusual layering tricks, and a rather odd approach to hosiery. Disaster 1: struck when she attended the launch presentation of her SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker shoe collection at Nordstrom in L.A. Wearing an ivory Dolce & Gabbana dress over a black top and tights; the outfit was a pretty odd choice for sunny Cali. Finished off with green pumps and a half-up ponytail, we’re not quite sure where Sarah was headed with this one. Disaster 2: played out at the Nordstrom Aventura mall in Florida, where once again on promotional duty, Sarah put together an eye-catching-for-all-the-wrong-reasons ensemble. And, boy did she leave us confused! Layering a red lace Dolce dress over a long-sleeved shirt and finishing off with footless tights and Carrie T-bar pumps from her own collection, this look was dressed-in-the-dark personified. Two bewildering looks from a lady who’s usually overspilling with glam is too much for our style-seeking hearts to bear. Here’s hoping this doesn’t happen again – at least not to the lady with the dream wardrobe! [Images: Left; Right]
Read MoreRihanna is Worst Dressed of the Week in Prada
After fashion killin’ it (‘scuse the pun) on the Balmain and Chanel front row, Rihanna took a, well, turn for the worse at the Miu Miu autumn/winter 2014 show earlier this week. Debuting a car crash of a look from the Prada autumn/winter 2014 collection, the far-from-bashful Barbadian paired this rather outré chill-blocker with a deep-cut, chevron-print sweater and thigh-high black stockings. As always, RiRi wasn’t short of an award-winning repertoire of accessories, pairing the look with black sunglasses, a statement ear cuff, purple neck scarf and a deep red lip. Black ankle-strap sandals and a healthy dose of the Take Care singer’s famed air-of-don’t-care rounded of yet another naturally eccentric front row look. But even a round-up of fitting accoutrements couldn’t save this look; there’s just too much going on here – even by Rihanna’s standards! So far this season, what have you made of Rihanna’s frenzied show appearances? Given her star is far from small, and top designers dress her all the time, is her attendance, or rather, lack of punctuality, at shows too much of a distraction? Has to be said, though: fashion month wouldn’t be half as much fun without the Only Girl In The World who’d dare to flash an ample amount of boobage, strategically covered with a fur snood. Celebrities like to stay ahead of the sartorial game, we all know that much. But when the result of that race to get first dibs on a runway-fresh look ends up leaning towards drab than abso-freakin-lutely fab, we have a few bones to pick. This week, letting us down on the fall 2014 front is actress Julianne Moore, who sported a dramatic look from Prabal Gurung’s latest runway collection to the L.A. premiere of Non-Stop, earlier this week – and didn’t do such a great job of it. On the runway, the printed wrap dress with an asymmetrical hemline looked great; but translated on the red carpet, its allure was lost. The wrap top looks super-unflattering on Julianne – as the fit around the waist was lost – in turn making the bottom half of the dress appear awkward. However, all is not lost. We’re totally diggin’ those three-strap pointed pumps she paired with this red carpet effort, and her signature red mane looked sumptuously glossy; even the lack of accessories was a good thing on this occasion. A better fit on the top half could’ve save this look, but as it stands, this one’s going in the ‘don’t repeat’ pile, Julianne. What do you think of Julianne’s look? Is our WDOTW verdict fair? [Image: Zimbio]
Read MoreKate Mara is Worst Dressed of the Week in Prada
We feel pretty blah when a good dress gone bad situation occurs. Like in this instance, when Kate Mara decided to bring a little Prada spring 2014 glory to the red carpet at the ‘House Of Cards’ season two screening in L.A. Prada, ALL HAIL Prada! That’s the usual way to welcome a look from Lady Miuccia, as it’s always so breathtaking, but Kate’s embellished dress featuring a hyper face motif just missed the mark. The thigh-grazing dress features heavy black embellishment, with a cut-away section for extra cleavage breathing space (well, that’s what we call it). Styled with dainty ankle-strap sandals and slick, side-swept hair, Kate completed her look with sultry eyes, nude lips and a matching Prada clutch. The accessories, hair and make-up are on point, but the lack of dress length, extra boob-show and a hefty dose of look-at-me sequin and bead adornment are too much to throw into one dress. Maybe a longer hemline, or doing away with the cut-out detail could rescue this look, but as it stands, it’s a miss for us. Do you think a toned down version of this look could’ve worked? [Image]
Read MorePoppy Delevingne is Worst Dressed of the Week in Louis Vuitton
With red carpet style getting ever more sophisticated – and not in a boring way – its becoming tougher to track down a look that makes us say “meh.” However, one particular look always slips the oh-so-pretty net, landing straight in our Worst Dressed pile. And, this week it seems one of the Delevingne sisters may have momentarily downgraded their style-setter status, with a rather odd gown. Poppy Delevingne took to the black red carpet at the 2014 amFAR Gala earlier this week, and we’re not sure we’re with her on this sartorial slip-up. Sporting a rather bewitching black gown from the Louis Vuitton spring 2014 collection, Poppy ensured all eyes were on her. Featuring a sheer body with intricate bead embellishment, Poppy completed the look with a super-high ponytail and an aptly dark lip. A rather bulky bucket bag finished her evening effort. There’s just something about this outfit that’s a little mismatched; it’s one of those looks that works better on the runway, complete with Marc Jacobs-esque grandeur. The hair harks back to the 90s, while the bag is too large for a formal evening affair. A more sophisticated hairdo and a tiny box clutch could salvage this look, but as it stands, it’s a let down from the Delevingne camp. Agree with our style verdict? What do you think of Poppy’s look? [Image]
Read MoreKaty Perry is Worst Dressed of the Week in Dolce & Gabbana
Every once in a while, something hideous unfolds on the celebrity red carpet and the image often stays with us for months to come. Such a crime towards fashion was committed by Katy Perry earlier this week, when she attended the The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles event in Los Angeles wearing a rather, erm, interesting Dolce & Gabbana ensemble. Brace yourselves: welcome the lounge curtains-cum-caped crusader red carpet look – one we won’t be warming to in the name of ‘alternative style’ anytime soon. The singer, who also performed at the event, wore a soft pink dress and matching cape (a drape, maybe?) with a burgundy floral print. Too garish, even by Ms. Perry’s standards, and definitely not a look that oozes sexy glamour like her usual style; the train of thought behind this look is definitely a mystery Accessorising the outfit with pale pink pumps and drop earrings, an updo with spiky bangs rounded up this rather awful (sorry, Katy!) look. Let’s hope her styling team files this red carpet effort in the “never repeat” pile… Are you with us on this WDOTW verdict? [Image]
Read MoreImogen Poots is Worst Dressed of the Week in Louis Vuitton
In a week that gave us great looks, some no so great ones crept onto the red carpet, too. The offender in question: Imogen Poots in Louis Vuitton at the New York screening of her latest movie, That Awkward Moment. The actress opted for a top-to-toe look for the spring 2014 collection, including an embellished LBD with cut-out waist detail, and tights covered in Stephen Sprouse-style graffiti. Although the runway look featured a halter dress, Imogen opted for a deep scoop neck style, rounding off her look with platform sandals and a rather peculiar hair do… Make-up was kept simple, accentuated only by heavily kohled eyes and a slick of black nail colour, which lent to a grungy feel. As for the hair, we’re not too sure what Imogen’s styling team had in mind! The intentionally messy down-do looks a little too unkempt for our liking and those bangs aren’t doing any favours to neaten up the look, either. This outfit could certainly have done without the footless tights, and a more refined hairstyle would’ve complemented the dress’s ornate, evening feel. What do you think? Does this look work? [Image]
Read MoreGwyneth Paltrow is Worst Dressed of the Week in Valentino
Oh dear! If ever there were a fab to drab transformation, this peculiar look from Gwyneth Paltrow would certainly top the list. Attending the 2014 Golden Globes on Sunday with husband Chris Martin, Gwyneth cut a (sartorially speaking) sombre figure in a wash-out Resort 2014 Valentino mini dress. Giving the red carpet walk a miss this year, the actress appeared as though she’d been put together last minute, with very little thought given to hair or makeup. OK, so she was probably going for the effortless, nonchalant look with her wispy down-do, but HULLO, these are the Golden Globes! The pale blue and gold brocade dress hardly flatters Gwynie’s awesome figure (even though it shows off her toned pins), and does no favours for her make-up free complexion, either. A slick of bright lipstick could’ve gone a long way here, Mrs. Martin! Paired with suede Valentino platform pumps and a cute clutch bag, the accessories are certainly winners, but look dull pitched against the colour-drained dress. After all the frock-ery that went down on the GG red carpet – many of the looks making it onto our Best Dressed list – this was certainly not one of them. The only thing rescuing you here is that beaming smile, Gwyn… What do you make of Gwyneth’s look? Does it look like she couldn’t be bothered? (Naughty.) [Image]
Read MoreAnna Wintour is Worst Dressed of the Week in Prada
We’re looking over our shoulders as we write this, in case, y’know, Anna’s style army is hunting us down. That’s Anna Wintour, in case you were wondering. Spotted in what may become a Worst Dressed Of The Year contender pretty soon, Madame Wintour took to the red carpet for the season three premiere of ‘Girls’ earlier this week, in a Prada Spring 2014 fur coat. But this wasn’t any old coat. No. Painted boldly with a woman’s portrait, the snug cover-up was perfect for battling the New York City deep freeze, but Anna’s overall styling left us in a *facepalm* pose for some time. Paired with an even longer skirt (what?!) and knee-high leather boots (no Manolos? Where are the Manolos? Bring back the Manolos!), Anna’s styling went the complete opposite way to the runway-ready, easier on the eye look. Sporting her signature bob and stern semi-smile, the American Vogue E-I-C decided to add some extra oomph to the “eughh” factor by adding a peculiar looking scarf to the mix. Yes, we get that you wanted to chill-block, Anna, but this outfit just screams “NO!” Pull up the skirt hem and ditch the scarf, and you might have a winning look on your hands, but this time, you’re so not in vogue, Anna. Read MoreFergie is Worst Dressed of the Week
Yes, we’ve just come out of the thick of the party season, and past a certain level of drinking, style inhibitions unsurprisingly seem to vanish. So, when we spotted Fergie selfie-ing it up on Instagram in this rather garish ensemble, well, we had to comment. Headed for what seems like a Studio 54-themed New Year’s Eve bash, Fergie wore a black sequin jumpsuit-cum-leotard-with-leggings, topped off with a monstrous green shaggy (faux?) fur coat. Ample cleavage was on show, and the accessories for the night included a pair of cat-eye sunglasses (in the dark; how Kanye is she?!), and platform heels. Deliberate fancy dress, or just her ode to the disco theme, we don’t know; but we’ve seen Fergie rock far better looking outfits than this one! Guess we can blame this particular wardrobe malfunction on the New Year bubbly cheer, if not anything else. Honestly, Fergie, a knockout white suit à la Bianca Jagger would’ve sufficed y’know. What do you make of Fergie’s OTT look? Yay or nay? Sorry, Fergs, but this one certainly tops our Worst Dressed of the Week list! [Image]
Read MoreCeline Dion is Worst Dressed of the Week in Atelier Versace
Here’s a look that has fiercely divided opinion this week. Celine Dion took to the stage at the The Voice season 5 finale earlier this, week dressed in a rather raunchy Atelier Versace number. And for us, it just doesn’t work. The singer wore the teensy black dress from the Fall 2013 collection to perform her latest single, ‘Incredible’ ft.Ne-Yo. The embellished, high neck LBD features a rather revealing cut-away panel at the chest, showing a lace corset underneath, with full length sleeves and a dangerously high hem. There is nothing wrong with the dress per se, but paired with Celine’s open, tousled locks, its looks a little too busy around the neck area. And, then there’s the cardinal rule of dress dressing: chest or legs, not both. Although cleavage spillage is kept to a maximum with this look, the thigh-grazing length of the dress competes all to much with the revealing chest area detail. We’re pretty envious of the 45-year-old’s amazing figure, but would’ve preferred a longer hemline. The Fall runways were all about peek-a-boo detailing, which makes this dress ideal, but a case of wrong styling got the better of Celine’s look. Finishing off her look were simple black pumps, and strong black eye make-up. What do you think of Celine’s look? Does it work for you? [Images: Style.com; Zimbio]
Read MoreKristen Bell is Worst Dressed of the Week in Sachin + Babi
Another week, another outfit that amazes us for all the wrong reasons, of course! Seems Kristen Bell’s stylist needs a lesson or two in the art of mastering oversize dressing, because the job on Kristen hasn’t worked! Sporting a Sachin + Babi matching A-line skirt and top ensemble to the ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ Expansion Pack Mobile Game Launch earlier this week, Kristen appeared a little, well, swallowed up. The look from the spring 2014 collection did no favours for Kristen’s petite frame, as both the floaty skirt and boxy top battled it out for body-swamping attention. We love the striking, scattered print and the electric blue clutch and suede ASOS heels, not forgetting Kristen’s sleek locks and soft make-up. But that outfit just isn’t doing anything to please our fashion hungry peepers. If the top was worn with skinny leather trousers and pointed courts, our opinion would probably be different. Or, if the pretty skirt was worn with a fitted black bustier top, and styled with the same accessories as this look, we’d certainly be swayed. But, in its current guise, this look is going in the never-repeat-again pile, pronto! What are your thoughts on Kristen’s Sachin + Babi look? [Image]
Read MoreMarion Cotillard is Worst Dressed of the Week in Christian Dior Couture
OK, here’s a red carpet look we’re so baffled by, that an eerie silence took over HQ when we laid eyes on it. Marion Cotillard, faithfully upholding her Dior duties, sported the oddest Christian Dior dress from the fall 2013 couture collection at the Waltz with Monica photo call in Morocco, earlier this week. The usually impeccable Marion wore a floor-length striped orange-and-blue gown, with a blue asymmetrical overlay. Going accessory-free, Marion opted for black pointed pumps, and a slick of black polish on her nails. Make-up was simple, with kohl-lined eyes; and swept back hair with glossy bangs rounded off her red carpet appearance. Sadly, this look does absolutely nothing for Marion, and its unflattering silhouette only adds to our worst dressed woes. The high neckline isn’t at all flattering, and we’re still wondering how this look could possibly constitute couture…! What do you think of Marion’s look? We get that couture seeks to push design boundaries, but is this look just overdoing it a bit? Share your thoughts below. [Image]
Read MoreLizzy Caplan is Worst Dressed of the Week in Reem Acra
We’re usually convinced by first sight of an LBD, no matter what form it takes. But, this week, we’re not so pleased. Lizzy Caplan slipped into a Spring 2014 Reem Acra dress at the Saban Community Clinic 37th Annual Benefit Gala earlier this week, and we’re just not diggin’ the red carpet effort. The Masters of Sex star wore a black, knee-length dress embellished with sequins and cape-like sleeves. Lizzy accessorised with a mini box clutch and cross-strap Aldo sandals, and finished off with a slick of eyeliner and soft pink lips. Side-swept bangs and a glossy, elongated bob added the final touch. We love the make-up, the hair and the accessories, but the cape-like sleeves aren’t so flattering. The dress’s high neckline warrants a wispy updo, unlike her sleek locks, which seem to clutter the overall look. An LBD, if styled the right way, can be the single most flattering item of clothing in any wardrobe. But on this occasion, Lizzy’s look just didn’t recreate that classic magic. Our rule to owning your LBD appearance: keep it fuss-free. [Image]
Read MoreElizabeth Banks is Worst Dressed of the Week in Jenny Packham
Once in a while, a red carpet look can throw us a little, and not always in a good way. One particular look that’s stirred up such sartorial conversation at HQ this week, is Elizabeth Banks’ Jenny Packham jumpsuit that she wore to the The Hunger Games: Catching Fire premiere in New York. After winning us over in bright orange Atelier Versace at the Los Angeles premiere for the film, this Jenny Packham look just isn’t working the same magic. Props for the gorgeously wispy updo, the colourful lip, and subtle-yet-striking Lorraine Schwartz earrings to compliment the smattering of embellishment on the jumpsuit; but we can’t help think this jumpsuit should’ve been a floor-length gown. The cuffed pants look odd in proportion to the rest of the look, almost giving Elizabeth’s outfit an incomplete edge. The intricate embellishment and cut-out detail of the top is beautiful, as are the matching black accessories, but something just seems a little off-kilter here, and we can’t quite pin it down. A dramatic, all-black look is always a winner for us, but, sadly, this week’s noir effort from this Hunger Games’ beauty just hasn’t bowled us over. Do you agree with our WDOTW verdict? [Image]
Read MoreMiley Cyrus is Worst Dressed of the Week at 2013 MTV EMAs
Crikey! Miley Cyrus has been busy recently, upstaging her twerking antics at this year’s MTV EMAs with a rather, erm, questionable outfit. But, then again, did you expect anything less (revealing) from Miley CRay Cyrus? (Sorry, we just had to!) Suspicious smoking materials aside – we’re still recovering from that on-stage light up – Miley made sure pretty much every photog’s lens was focused on her taut existence, while everything about her outfit forced the knots in our stomachs tighter. After all, her affection for dressing up without clothes seems like a habit that will die hard, and we’re not too surprised. Rocking up on the red carpet in a New York Vintage halter neck dress, featuring images of legendary rap rivals Tupac and Biggie plastered across her tiny body, Miley looked, well, like Miley! Could this have been an ode to her recent liaison with the rap world? Or, maybe, she was subliminally hinting towards ending a feud; the one between her and the world? Well, whatever her intentions, she sure got us talking. Accessorising with the usual smattering of diamond and gold chains and an air of ‘don’t care’, strong brows, a side-swept crop and monochrome over-the-knee-boots Tom Ford boots from the Fall 2013 collection completed her look. Although we’re digging the boots – they could totally work with an oversize knit – that dress, with its tacky lace-up detail and face prints that remind us of Spice Girls concert merchandise are a BIG no. No. Just no. Who was your Worst Dressed of the Week? Did anyone top Miley? [Image]
Read MoreElizabeth Olsen is Worst Dressed of the Week in Christian Dior Couture
Very rarely does a couture dress interrupt our style radar to inform us of its not-so-eye-pleasing presence. After all, it is couture, and its supposed to shock and inspire in equal measure. But, Elizabeth Olsen’s recent appearance in Dior couture was nothing short of a sartorially disappointed sigh. Elizabeth attended the Guggenheim International Gala in New York City, earlier this week, and sported a black, below-the-knee Dior Couture dress from the spring 2013 collection. The quirky LBD featured subtly tiered layers and a stark black and soft lemon hued petal adornment across the chest. When we spotted the dress on the runway – styled on a model with a slicked-down pixie crop and striking red lips – we placed it in the red carpet category for A-listers willing to take a style risk – a good risk, at that. But, it was Elizabeth’s styling, not so much the dress, which let her look down. Pairing the couture dress with simple black pumps, Elizabeth’s choice to wear her tousled hair down worked against her, as it ended up covering a lot of the chest area detail. Make-up was sheer, and accessories were zero, which made the overall look appear slightly bridesmaid-gone-wrong frumpy, than fashion forward a with Raf Simons approved slant. What say you, fellow fashion lovers? Thumbs up or down for E.Olsen’s non-trad little black dress? [Image]
Read MoreJulianne Hough is Worst Dressed of the Week…as ‘Crazy Eyes’
Long before elaborate Halloween parties and expertly executed outfits, it was all about dressing up as a witch and trying your luck at trick or treating. Of course, things don’t remain so vanilla in Hollywood, and this week, actress Julianne Hough has been the subject of controversy over her not-so-PC outfit choice. Far from being spooky, Julianne’s get-up for the Casamigos Halloween Party in Hollywood last week attracted backlash from the public, and rightfully so. Dressed as the character ‘Crazy Eyes’ from the hit Netflix series, Orange Is The New Black, Julianne sported a bright orange prison uniform and Gwen Stefani hair, circa ’95. But it wasn’t her wacky choice of attire that infuriated the masses, rather her blackface makeup. Particularly distasteful, whatever her intentions with this look; but she claims to be a fan of the show, and of the character she was imitating, played by African-American actress, Uzo Aduba. Given the heated debate surrounding the Vogue Netherlands ‘Blackface’ editorial, we’re not surprised by the extreme reaction to Julianne’ actions – after all, fashion may be a make-believe world pushing boundaries (and buttons), but as a representative of Hollywood, Julianne should know better. Although Julianne took to social media to repent her allegedly racially offensive actions, tweeting: “It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize,” we’re still slapping her with this week’s worst dressed title. (Yes, we know, it could’ve been Miley dressed as Lil’ Kim) What are your thoughts on Julianne’s Halloween costume? Is it a step too far? [Image]
Read MoreMarion Cotillard is Worst Dressed of the Week in Christian Dior
We’re not fans of dismissing a to-die-for Dior look, but Marion Cotillard gave us good reason to temporarily detour from our devout appreciation of the luxury fashion house. Slipping into a cocoon back dazzler of a dress – fresh off the spring/summer 2014 runway – Marion appeared at ELLE’s 20th Annual Women in Hollywood bash, held in Los Angeles earlier this week, and on all counts of styling, we just weren’t impressed by this grey red carpet effort! Not only did the silhouette appear frumpy, but the look screamed “effortless styling” for all the wrong reasons. A sharp Dior dress, the kind we’re used to seeing Marion sporting, would’ve been just fine! And not only that, but we’re pretty convinced those Dior ankle-tie sandals are a camouflage tactic, because they do a great job of blending into the grey carpet beneath! Emulating much of the runway look, Marion went accessory free, and opted to wear her hair in a low, centre-parted bun – a hairdo that seemed more suited to a saintly Valentino look, than a standout dress like this one. Although you never sartorially disappoint, Mademoiselle Cotillard, this one’s definitely for the ‘ditch’ pile. What do you think of Marion’s look? [Image]
Read MoreAnna Kendrick is Worst Dressed of the Week in Alberta Ferretti
You know that gutting feeling you get, when a show-stopping runway look just doesn’t translate so brilliantly in real life? Yeah, that. And, sadly, we’re suffering from a serious case of it this week. Disappointing us in a runway-to-real-life situation this week is Anna Kendrick, who took to the red carpet for the screening of Drinking Buddies during the 57th BFI London Film Festival, earlier this week, in a spring/summer 2014 Alberta Ferretti skirt and crop top ensemble. Although the floral wash has winter bloom appeal, the runway look was by far our favourite; a slice of midriff was on show, whilst ribbon-tie flats and drop earrings in vibrant orange sealed the sartorial deal. OK, we get it, we know. The model on the runway, what with her endless legs and Amazonian glow, was bound to look impeccable. But on Anna, the look just didn’t sit right. The full-bodied A-line skirt we love, but the crop top fell awkwardly on the waist band, concealing the waist-cinching effect of the skirt. The simple black pumps and matching clutch go well with the bold look, but we’re digging a little more midriff display! Top marks for hair and make-up, though. What do you think? Is our WDOTW a fair decision? [Image: Zimbio]
Read MoreChloë Moretz is Worst Dressed of the Week in Valentino
Disclaimer: It is with a very heavy heart, that we’re including a Valentino gown in this week’s Worst Dressed. The luxury Italian fashion house can do no wrong when it comes to the red carpet, but there’s something about this week’s look that doesn’t sit right with us. Taking to the red carpet for the premiere of her latest movie, Carrie, Chloë Moretz slipped into a sheer green Valentino gown, complete with beautiful lace appliqué and a dreamy dandelion print. (See, we just can’t bring ourselves to talk badly of it!) But, we’re not convinced the 16-year-old was ready for this look just yet. A little on the grown-up side; we think the sleeves and high neckline belie her tender teen years, and the frumpy waistline area gives the gown almost ‘mumsy’ appeal. Maybe, if the sleeves were snipped off and a belt thrown in for waist-cinching effect, along with a clutch, this otherwise gorgeous gown could’ve worked for the young A-lister. But given its Autumnal colour and dark detail, the gown is a little too beyond her years. Major props for the messy braid and super sweet make-up, though; Chloë’s sure blossoming into a seasoned red carpet doyenne! What do you think of Chloë’s look? Tell us your thoughts below. [Image]
Read MoreKerry Washington is Worst Dressed of the Week in Prada
Well, we know Prada does a daring frock. And we also know that Kerry Washington never puts a sartorial step wrong, so what went on here, we’re not too sure! Stepping onto the red carpet in New York for the premiere of the third season of her hit series Scandal, Kerry wore a custom-made autumn/winter 2013 Prada ball gown. The gingham-print voluminous affair was quite a sight to behold (even if it did you make you gasp in horror), as, not only did it swallow up the bottom half of the gorgeous A-lister, but it’s all just a bit too Little House on the Prairie for us. Accessorising the overpowering look was a waist-cinching pink band, and Christian Louboutin pumps, but even these sugar-dusted accoutrements couldn’t rescue the dress disaster going on here! Hair and make up were pristine, as always, as Kerry opted for soft, side swept curls and a nude make up palette, anchored beautifully with strong eyes. The look could’ve worked sans sleeves, or a fuss-free neckline, but, for now, its going straight into the Worst Dressed of the Week pile. Sorry, Kerry! [Image]
Read MoreRita Ora is Worst Dressed of the Week
Sometimes, we wonder if celebrities live in a state of permanent blackout. Are they getting dressed in the dark, like, everyday? If so, why?! A name often associated with a funky frock; Rita Ora’s recent outing in Calvin Harris’s shirt-cum-dress-cum-crumpled nightie left us feeling a little, well, short-changed on the fashion front. With her boss perfecting the art of making the humble white shirt look hip in an art gallery, Jay Z’s protégée made for some seriously painful viewing when she was papped heading to a 24-hour spa in LA. Wearing an oversized shirt featuring an elongated gold bib front, Rita accessorised her odd wardrobe choice with a bondage choker, a hairdo that harked back to the Nineties (maybe a tamed version of a Gwen Stefani do?) and her signature red lip. Whilst a polka dot backpack looked a little out of place with the loopy look, we loved the Givenchy Shark Lock wedge ankle boots. Next time, dearest Rita, maybe opt for a slightly toned down look when heading for downtime at a spa? [Image]
Read MoreMiley Cyrus is Worst Dressed of the Week
She may have graced the cover for the October issue of Harper’s Bazaar in a gorgeously understated Burberry Prorsum number, but that’s not getting Miley Cyrus off the hook as Worst Dressed of the Week! When she wasn’t looking all demure and crimson-lipped on a glossy cover, the twerking enthusiast was actually playing dress up as a fashion casualty! Miley recently took to the streets of London in a rather peculiar looking Jean Paul Gaultier hybrid trouser, which made for some interesting viewing. Part sheer legging, part wide leg trouser, she continued the horrifying all-black outfit party with a matching bra top (a regular occurrence in Miley’s uber-eccentric (read: barely visible) wardrobe), face-swallowing sunglasses and lashings of gold jewellery. Looking like the lovechild of a Goth and a gangster (no, really), Miley finished off her ‘special’ look with a rather ostentatious, dare we say it, Chanel handbag. Not one to take the subtle approach, the ultra-chunky gold medallion belt pretty much stretched our sartorial tolerance level to the limit! We’re all for Miley’s wacky wardrobe of late, but please quit the visual trickery and either don trousers OR leggings, not both. A pair of skinny black jeans or wide-leg black trousers could’ve turned this look around, with a slash of sexy midriff sans all that stomach-turning bling, to top it off nicely. Whaddaya say? [Image]
Read MoreKourtney Kardashian is Worst Dressed of the Week
Given we’re all about rule breaking this week, we thought to shake things up and bring you our Worst Dressed celeb of the Week. We’re always waxing lyrical about pristinely dressed A-listers, so how about acknowledging those amongst us who take it upon themselves to make us wince every time we look at their outfits? Guilty as charged this week is one part of the super-extended Karadashian clan, Kourtney Kardashian. Stepping out in LA with her relatively well-dressed sibling, Khloe, Kourtney’s eye-watering outfit quickly diverted our attention. What is that we see? A shudder-inducing mishmash of sorts, that’s what! Pairing an otherwise gorgeous pair of heeled gladiator-style sandals with ripped, acid wash bermuda shorts, a white shirt and aviator sunglasses, Kourtney didn’t quite make the kind of fashion statement she probably had in mind when getting dressed. Broken down, her outfit is great: classic aviator sunglasses; a classic, crisp white shirt; summer-perfect sandals and bermudas Rihanna wouldn’t mind rocking. But thrown together, this outfit really is a case of sartorial sacrilege! (We shudder to think what Kanye had to say about this) The oft-polished reality star was probably having an off day (who doesn’t?), so here’s how we suggest she rework this ‘look’: shorts, not Bermudas, would work well, and ditch the shirt for a relaxed fit tee. Keep the sunnies and bag, and you’re good to go! [Image]

London Fashion Week is, of course, all about the collections, after parties and street style frenzies that take place all over the city. Getting caught up in the “fashun” whirlwind is all well, but not without weighing in on what the movers and shakers wore, while sitting pretty front row. Read MoreIs anyone really fit to replace Anna Wintour?
You might consider our proposition insane, if somewhat impossible, but it could totally happen. If the “new” age for women retiring in the UK is realistically lingering in the seventies, then Anna Wintour isn’t too far off. At 64, the impeccably bobbed, Manolo-clad Editor-in-Chief of American Vogue faultlessly oozes that polished glamour so many of us can only dream of inhaling from the printer-fresh pages of our monthly subscription Yet, what begins must end, and recent rumours speculating Wintour’s retirement have got the style set buzz-chatting – some with confusion, others with a glimmer of excitement at whom might be deemed worthy to take the helm of the world’s grandest fashion institution. So, instead of suffering sleepless, sweaty nights figuring out what will happen to the physical impression Anna has left on her regular FROW spot – if she ever decides to hang up that Prada fur coat – we’ve gathered our heavy-hearted thoughts and picked out five possible replacements. Yes, human replacements, not some page-flicking robot with impossible-to-attain hair. Having said that, who knows what the future holds? The WAG-turned-wardrobe queen: Victoria Beckham Churning out winning runway ensemble, season-on-season, VB knows a thing or two about what makes winning fashion editorial content. It doesn’t hurt that she’s permanently well-dressed, backed up by a good-looking brood and a super-successful, hunk-in-pants husband. Her consistency, business-meet-fashion discipline and taste for luxury could easily put her in the pool of potentials. Carries comes to life: Sarah Jessica Parker Hey, hey! Wintour’s bestie (they enjoy “private dinners” on the regular), Sarah Jessica Parker, is possibly the closest suspect we’ll get to having an A-lister take the reigns after Anna. Although the actress has denied all rumours about replacing the powerful editor-in-chief, they do share a love for fashion fundraisers, Manolos and pretty dresses. Kate Boss. Not Moss: She’s […]
Read MoreJessica Biel is darling in Dior for Guggenheim International Gala
As jealous as we may be that she’s married to Hollywood heartthrob Justin Timberlake and we’re not, there’s no denying that Jessica Biel is one seriously hot and stylish lady. Jessica Biel attended the Guggenheim International Gala at the Guggenheim Museum in New York last night, and opted to wear a gorgeous Christian Dior Couture spring/summer 2013 dress for the occasion. The stars have been wearing a lot of Dior these past few days – some slightly better than others – but we think Mrs Timberlake gets top marks for her seductively simple ensemble. As with all Jessica Biel red carpet looks though, it was all about the attention to detail; the Dior droplet earrings that complemented the colours in her dress were to die for, as was her perfect smoky eye make-up. Oh and did we mention that we have total hair envy, too?
Read MoreRed Valentino tulle-covered trench coat: Yay or Nay?
Is it a trench? Is it a dress? What is it?! After witnessing a not so positive take on hybrid dressing, courtesy of a certain Cyrus, we were sceptical about the two-in-one approach to our wardrobes. Then, along came this little number from Red Valentino, and the topic was up for discussion again. Putting a pretty, feminine twist on the perennially chic cover up, the Red Valentino printed tulle-covered cotton-twill trench coat is a cheat’s way to looking party fabulous in five minutes – right out of the office! But is it worth the investment? Is the style shortcut justified? Check out the reasons we’re saying yes and no (in the same breath) to the Red Valentino trench below: Yay Coat-dress: Championing Kate Middleton’s eternally favourite (and easy) look, you’ll be killing two wardrobe needs with one killer coat. Need we say more? Subtle detail: The jewel motif splashed across the chest isn’t overpowering, and the dainty, Swiss-dot tulle overlay gives the trench day-to-night appeal. Classic colour: Crafted in breathable cotton-twill, the trench comes in a classic shade of beige, possibly satiating your need for the dearer version over at Burbz! Nay Limited by trend: Its lady-like appeal could possibly limit the wear you get out of this trench, confining it to the days for when your inner Carrie needs an outing. Price: At £750, it’s not exactly as easy on the pocket as it is on the eye! Take a long, hard look at your wardrobe before deciding to take the plunge, and consider if the trench will work with it. After all, it’s a classic cover up you’re going to want to keep reaching for. Not universally flattering: Given the waist-cinching qualities of the velvet belt are magical, a full pleated skirt isn’t flattering for everyone’s shape – […]
Read MoreNicole Richie vs. Kourtney Kardashian…Who wore Stella McCartney better?
Although monochrome originally set our hearts aflutter for spring/summer 2013, when our peepers landed on this week’s fash-off contestants, we once again gasped in awe! The sheer beauty of a vertical zebra crossing-esque print in a dress is enough to get the dialogue going at MFL HQ, and that’s why we’ve picked Nicole Richie and not-far-from-a-camera Kourtney Kardashian as this week’s Who Wore it Best candidates, in a stunning, striped Stella McCartney number. First up, Nicole Richie took to the front row at Paris Fashion Week back in March, when she wore the striped A-line dress to the Stella McCartney autumn/winter 2013 show. Looking radiant as ever; Nicole completed her look with a relaxed shoulder-length bob and simple black pumps. But catching up in the style race was Kourtney Kardashian, who hasn’t been on our style radar for the right reasons, lately! Kourtney attended the extravagant, Alice In Wonderland themed 16th birthday bash for fellow sibling, Kylie Jenner, in August, sporting said dress. Accessorising with a fancy featured headpiece, fingerless gloves (very Kaiser Karl) and cross-strap platform heels, she rounded the look off with a bright red lip. With such a bold dress, and two very different looks, it’s a tough one to choose between this week, but we’re going to go with Nicole on this one! We get it: Kourtney’s channelling an upscale Tweedledee/dum in a dress (sorry, Kourt!), but it’s literally too fancy dress for us. Skip the OTT gloves and headpiece, and she’s got a winner on her hands (pardon the pun). Nicole’s fuss-free styling and glossy locks win by a strong style mile. Agree with our verdict? Tell us your thoughts below. [Images: Nicole; Kourtney]
Read MoreWho wore it best? Katie Holmes vs Lucy Liu in Azzedine Alaïa
We’ll level with you – we’re kind of obsessed with lace. It’s so feminine and flirty that we can’t resist anything with even a hint of the fabric on it. So when we saw this short and sweet Azzedine Alaïa dress on not one but two celebs this week we practically sang with joy. And naturally, the question fell to this: how did these starlets style it, and who wore the trend first? Katie Holmes was the most recent to don the dress to the MTV Video Music Awards last week. The actress accessorised with a suede tan pair of Proenza Schouler lace-up ankle boots, which though we love, we think make her legs look a bit stumpy on this occasion. Still, we’re still lusting over her luxurious tresses and simple but efficient make-up. However, Charlie’s Angels actress Lucy Liu wore the Alaïa dress back in July to a movie screening in New York. She teamed her lace number with elegant nude pumps featuring peep-toe detail, and we love her addition of a popping berry clutch to brighten up the dark dress. But whose look are you loving? Katie’s cute ‘n’ cool style, or Lucy’s lady-like elegance? Cast your votes below! [poll id=”192″]
Read MoreBritish fashion reigns at the Met Ball
For an event that usually champions the best of American fashion, last night’s Met Ball saw a surprising amount of stars wearing gowns from British designers. Perhaps it was a nod towards last night’s honouree, the late Alexander McQueen, who’s life and work was celebrated in an accompanying exhibition, Savage Beauty, or maybe the world hasn’t quite recovered from royal wedding fever just yet – but either way, the Brits ruled the red carpet. Dressing the most celebs was Stella McCartney – also clad in her own label – who decked out an impressive 14 stars in her dresses (save a jumpsuit for Iman), including Rihanna, Naomi Watts, Eva Mendes, Maggie Gyllenhaal and BFFs Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson, Thandie Newton and Madonna. Also high up on the most-spotted list was, unsurprisingly, Alexander McQueen. Sarah Burton wore a white dress by her own design to honour her friend and mentor, while Daphne Guinness, Naomi Campbell, Gisele, Coco Rocha, Anna Dello Russo, Karen Elson, Racquel Zimmerman and Salma Hayek and Sarah Jessica Parker all paid tribute to the designer. And the list of Brits doesn’t stop there – Erdem dressed Lily Donaldson in a floor-length navy lace gown, Burberry bagged Rosie Huntington-Whiteley to wear a satin rose gown and nude python clutch, and Alexa Chung wore new-season Christopher Kane. Stay tuned for our round-up of the best and worst dressed from last night’s Met Ball.
