The On|Off showcase is now in its fourth season and has been created to nurture fashion designers by offering a unique bridge between official British Fashion Council scheduled designers and young commercially viable off-schedule talent. The On|Off philosophy aims to provide a platform which not only promotes but reflects upon London’s position in the global fashion industry. In line with this vision, this afternoon discussion seeks to establish an initial platform that will encourage exchange and facilitate a debate on both the achievements and struggles of this vibrant industry. The main objective of the symposium is to open a forum for discussion between designers, industry experts, government representatives and fashion theorists. It will also provide an opportunity to network and engage with a wider, more inclusive audience. The symposium will start off with a more theoretical look at the history of London as a fashion capital and offer a critical underpinning to the subsequent debates. On|Off’s designer’s and selected industry experts will then be invited to participate in an open discussion about the experience of sustaining fashion businesses in London.
