The Victim Fashion Street presentation was a weird one for me. As someone put it aptly afterwards, “It’s hard to go from the shows with substantial backing affording them the ability to source top quality fabrics to those with a lesser budget. I completely agreed and I had to discard any sub-conscious snobbishness which I had during the show. My initial reaction to the collection albeit unfair was that of disappointment, sitting up front I could see the lack of quality in terms of the fabric and the shoes, however the design was amazing and the creative thought behind it was worthy of much praise.
The collection – which consisted of predominantly black lacey dresses all handmade – was thrilling which wasn’t surprising since inspiration came from Stephen Kings Carrie, Mia Farrow in Rosemary’s baby and Catherine Deneuve in Repulsion. The make up and shoes injected colour and accessories came in the form of old style watches turned into necklaces, which I loved.
After the show I managed to get backstage to speak to the designer Mei Hui Liu who was lovely. I had some interview footage with her that was in perfect condition before I uploaded it to you tube but unfortunately now it lags and cuts of 3 seconds before it actually finishes. I wasn’t sure whether to upload it but I’ve decided to so you can hear Mei talk a little about the collection.
