The collection has been described as ‘eclectic retro-modern and romantically nostalgic’, that’s quite a description, but then again, it’s quite a collection. Inspired by early 60’s London, bold and energetic style has manifested itself perfectly in Wong’s recent designs. Her show during LA fashion week kicked off with a go-go dance performance, followed by MOD SQUAD, a group of short dresses, in a range of ‘pop art’ inspired patterns and bold colours.
Then came CHELSEA GIRL, reminiscent of bohemian London and encouraged by icons such as Twiggy, and Anita Pallenberg, the show continued under ever more interesting headings like CARNABY, VAMPS AND VIXENS , EXOTICA and ASIA. As a whole the collection was as culturally diverse as it was voguish, with a continuously varying medley of fabrics and patterns from metallic lace to luxurious silks, and antique Kimono motivated embroideries to hand made Battenberg laces.
