Alas! the winner of Project Runway was crowned last night. The collections that the final three designers showcased at Bryant Park were the strongest out of all of the seasons of the show thus far.
Jillian, Rami and Christian all put together amazing presentations that showed off their incredible talent and their genuine passion and dedication. It was extremely moving to see the raw emotions surrounding the last challenge (Christian being unusually nervous and insecure was absolutely priceless).
The first to show in the Tents was Jillian. Her collection had an equestrian-esque vibe and was comprised of mostly separates – including little skirts and innovative knits. Her pieces were very clean, feminine and commercial, and she clearly designed garments that were very “Jillian. Even though most women would probably want to copy her style and buy her clothes, there wasn’t much of a wow factor with her showcase.
Rami was the next to show, and his collection was very glamorous and rich looking. He surprised the judges with an array of pieces, (none of them toga!) ranging from flouncey blouses and slacks to dramatic evening gowns. His presentation was immaculate and his attention to detail was evident with every garment. I loved the gold mermaid gown with that interesting weaved look, and the headpiece the model wore was really beautiful also. His showing was very strong, but his choice of fabrics and colour palette was sometimes questionable.
Christian , the wunderkind , wrapped up the show with his presentation. All of his garments were definitely of his distinct aesthetic and screamed drama , which made his runway show the most exciting to watch. Although most women wouldn’t be able to pull off most of his crazy looks, including a dress made entirely out of feathers, and voluminous neck pieces that cover their faces, his collection displayed the most creativity and distinctiveness.
So who was crowned the winner?
Christian Siriano. Even guest judge Victoria Beckham was blown away by his talent and proclaimed that she would wear any of his designs…talk about great advertising! I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot of this young designer for many years to come. Congrats Christian!
