From the 1960s onwards, the “supermodel” was given birth to. The likes of Twiggy, Naomi, Iman, Claudia and Kate are just a few names that barreled down fashion runways and plastered their faces all over magazine covers to claim supermodel stardom. But upon all the success and accolades that surrounds this early cadre of supermodels, the question has to be asked, what on earth happened to the male models of their era or is the male supermodel really a nonentity?

I’d like to think otherwise, but the reality is the fashion industry has reduced the male model to a mere foil for their star-studded female counterparts. However, with a spawning interest in men’s fashion, change is without a doubt on the horizon and GQ Taiwan gladly pokes at the industry’s quandary by spotlighting the next batch of hopeful male models.

One thing I will say about this crop of male models that brings me joy is that they each have a personality that is unique to them—something that is said to be missing in the new breed of carbon-copy, Eastern European female models of today.
