Black is back. Despite being articulated across the A/Wo8 catwalks in Prada lace, razor, Mqueen tailoring and Givency leather, the black theme at Yves Saint Laurent was not only portrayed through the designs that swept the runway, but also reiterated through the Matrix-style ‘look’ of the individuals that made up the show.

Adorned with identical, bowel-cut, black wigs and slim-line, wrap-around shades, each model was flawlessly finished with a completely matte complexion; that is, apart from the rather dehumanising, shiny, black pout.

This playful goth look, teamed with the futuristic styling of YSL’s A/W collection, worked a treat in establishing the androgynous, dramatic, and precise effects of the show. But is this look something us civilians could master?

Bring on the new YSL Gloss Pur Black limited edition lipgloss available online for $28. If you fancy fully embracing the solid, statement shade of the catwalk (which might I say, will leave any kissing entirely out of the question), then apply and re-apply to your heart’s content. However if the slippery oil trend is not to your liking, then give your pout a lighter coat to achieve a deep plum colour, perfect for the ever-approaching winter.

Not a fan of gloss? Why not try Mac’s limited edition ‘Choc-ful’ Mattene lipstick from the Cult of Cherry range to get that stay-put look with a warmer hue.
