A new year, a new lot of items to lust over. Not sure where to begin? Update your wardrobe with these 10 key items and start off 2009 with a (beautiful) bang!

Tom Ford’s Purple Patchouli fragrance

With floral and oak undertones, Purple Patchouli is not only divine to wear – it looks as gorgeous on your dresser as it smells on you. Available to buy at Selfridges.

Xhilaration box clutch

The clutch is the ultimate party accessory and the only one to covet this year is the box clutch. I adore this simple yellow number with chain strap – perfect for dancing round!

All Saints Araminta dress

This hand embellished, 1920s inspired dress is an updated version of the flapper dress and destined to become a wardrobe favourite.

Vintage lace gloves

I found these beauties at brides.com but similar can be had at antique and vintage shops, stalls and fairs. A huge trend this season, lace has mainly been seen on dresses and boleros but looks every bit as pretty on your hands.

Lanvin cuff

If I had the money, I would buy this art-deco gem in a flash. Cuffs never date and are currently the fashion editor’s accessory du jour; plus this piece is sure to be a talking point wherever you wear it.

Patinastores swallow compact

This swallow tattoo print mirror compact is too sweet to hide in your bag. I’ll be buying these for my friends too.

Smythe blazer

I love a good blazer and this preppy, 80s style looks as though it walked off the Gossip Girl set and onto my New Year’s list. Perfection.

Topshop metal plate belt

This will look great paired with the Greek Goddess styles that are sure to dominate the high street in S09 after championing recent fashion weeks. For now, pair it with your favourite LBD and gladiator sandals for a fierce entry into 2009.

Alexander McQueen heart peep-toes

At first sight it was the bright pop of colour that attracted me to these shoes but on further inspection I noticed the heart shape cut-out. Peep-toes with heart!

Fredflare gold dapple headband

How fabulous is this feathered headband? Wear with a gold dress and black opaques for a Happy 2009!
