Being a native Mancunian, for me April means one thing – showers. And as the adopted jacket of the city, I’ve always had a soft-spot for parkas.

They’re the perfect transeasonal cover-up – light-weight, practical and, most-importantly, weather-withstanding – and like the trench coat before it, they’ve become something of a modern British classic that will last from season to season.

And when you think about traditional British jacket manufacturers, you immediately think about Burberry.

This Burberry Brit Pennistone parka in taupe exudes utility-chic – it has a drawstring high-neck, buttoned epaulet cuffs, a drawstring hem and half-length sleeves. The removable hood is a blessing and is certain to keep the rain off your head. But the adjustability of the jacket is a real plus-point, and I like the fact you can bring it in here and there to create a more feminine silhouette.

I would team this jacket with slim leg trousers or jeans, but it’s also warm enough to wear with a simple T-shirt or tank top underneath. I’d suggest wearing it to Glasto, but it’s far too special for getting covered in mud…
