The prestigious Met Ball took place last night, and the fashion elite were out in full force to showcase their style talents on the red carpet. But with the likes of Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen and Chanel adorning the stars, we were more than a little surprised to see a Topshop dress – or two – make an appearance.
Actress Ginnifer Goodwin is known for her pixie crop and colourful red carpet outfits, and she followed suit in an eye catching emerald dress and dishevelled hair last night.
But surprisingly, her cut out dress wasn’t couture – it was, in fact, from none other than high-street store Topshop. Unfortunately we won’t be able to get our hands on this beautiful gown, though; it was custom made especially for the actress.
But Ginnifer wasn’t the only one wearing Topshop last night – fellow actress Jessica Szohr also opted for the British brand and wore a black sparkly strapless gown from its low-end shelves. Luckily for us, her gorgeous dress will be available in a few months time.
Whilst some critics may discredit the actresses for daring to wear Topshop at one of the most prestigious events in the fashion calendar, we aren’t dismissing their high street thriftiness – and it’s no doubt a massive coup for the retailer.
What do you think of celebrities wearing high street to red carpet events? Would you still wear Topshop if you were an A-Lister?
