As far as stupid statements go, Kate Moss’s “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels” is pretty high up there. Then again, she could have declared her love for Hitler on video. But stupidity, it seems, isn’t only reserved for the rich and famous.
According to the results of recent survey in which 100 women were asked if they’d rather be obese or have one of 12 illnesses or disabilities, stupidity is actually a very common problem among women (or at least those 100 women taking part).
One in four women said they’d rather suffer from depression than be overweight. One in six said they’d rather be blind. Now, I’m presuming these women must have been of sound mind in order for them to take part, but I am seriously questioning their sanity.
Who, in their right mind, would rather live with an illness that causes 3.4% of suffers to commit suicide than put on weight? Who actually wants to sit and poke their eyes out because they’ve put on a few pounds? Please, girls, get a grip.
It’s a sad reality that among anorexics and bulimics, those scenarios may well seem more tempting than eating. But among women who know better, and who have no excuse not to take responsibility for their weight, it’s a shameful, ridiculous reaction that only fuels a very angry fire.
You know what matters more than how much you weigh? Happiness. Confidence. Self-esteem. Health. Those things you only achieve when you accept who you are and the true fact of life – that nobody is perfect.
Sure, I want to look as hot as the next Brazilian on the beach too, but not at the risk of my own sanity. Now excuse me, I’ve got a bacon sandwich to attend to.
