Legendary London designer Giles Deacon finally unveiled his new accessories collection for high street store Nine West in London yesterday, so we thought we’d dish the inside gossip.
The five piece capsule collection consists of a mix of bags and shoes, with two bags each embroidered with the Giles Eek motif, and three pairs of shoes all varying in style – the pointed ballerina, an ankle boot and a chunky peep toe wedge.
“I really liked the idea of doing a solo collection with contemporary prices,” said the designer. “I was catering to the Nine West customer, so these pieces are for wearing from breakfast until bedtime.”
“The collection is still inherently Giles – there’s still that London edge. It’s not about the super-expensive though, not everyone can or wants to spend £900 on a pair of shoes. There’s all day appeal about these pieces. I hope it’ll give us more of a presence in the States – we’ll be able to reach new audiences.”
But even though Giles has ventured into the world of accessories, he still maintains the whole process was a lot like making clothes, reports Vogue UK.
“Design is aesthetic problem solving,” explains Giles. “It’s actually very similar.”
The Giles for Nine West collection will be available in September. Just a little longer to wait.
