News has just confirmed that John Galliano’s trial will begin this Wednesday, June 22nd, at 2pm – and though many doubted his appearance, Galliano will be attending the official proceedings.

The trial itself will be heard by three judges as no jury is required for cases considered to be “minor” in France. A significant press presence is also expected on the day as the court is open and anyone can attend.

The initial hearing is said to last between four and five hours with witnesses from both sides giving statements; including a woman who was present when the incident took place.

Although it was initially thought Galliano would stay in rehab whilst his trial unfolded this Wednesday, it has now been confirmed he will be attending the court proceedings in person.

“John is still in rehab,” said a source close to the designer to Vogue UK. “The treatment will be long and arduous – and ongoing for a long time in the future – but he is humble, apologetic and hopeful that he can recover.”

We’ll keep you updated as the trial commences.
