Tommy Hilfiger is no longer the only designer in his family, as his wife Dee Ocleppo has designed her very own range of handbags – a project which reportedly came about when she was helping her husband on his latest collection.
Dee Ocleppo will launch the Designs by Dee Ocleppo handbag collection on the Home Shopping Network in March next year, with prices ranging from just under $100 to $250. The main USP of the bags will be that shoppers can customise their bags by changing the fabrics or the handles for example.
“I talked to Tommy about this bag that I used to carry – we called it the Bermuda bag and you could change the covers on them,” she told WWD. “They are very preppy and you can button on one cover and take it off and reverse it and the other side would have a different colour.
“I’d like to offer what’s trending and what people have and what’s in fashion now and not break the bank. For a bag these days, it’s pretty affordable. You don’t have to mortgage your home. I think it’s unique, it’s accessible and affordable for everyone – and it kind of makes you the designer. It gives you control.”
The range is comprised of four different types of bag – a clutch, a satchel, a tote and a shoulder bag – and materials customers can choose from include denim, canvas, quilted nylon and coral patent leather.
