The glittering BRIT Awards took place last night, and as expected, lady of the moment Adele walked away with major gongs! Winning British Female Solo Artist and Album of the Year, Adele most definitely woke up to a multimillion-pound hangover this morning!
Other big wins included Ed Sheeran, who landed British Male Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act. But that’s enough with the gongs; let’s get down to the style nitty- gritty and do what we do best.
Being fashion people, we had our beady style eye and fashion radar antennae out in full force to track down the red carpet efforts, and whether these really were as good as the hit music makers they were supposed to be celebrating.
Jessie J in Falguni & Shane Peacock; Florence Welch in Alexander McQueen; Pixie Lott in Dolce & Gabbana and Rihanna in Givenchy haute couture has got us into a bit of a sartorial muddle, as we sit on the fence once again.
We can’t decide whether we love what we see or whether we just want to close our eyes and shake our heads in sorrow at the design disasters before us.
Thank god for the discerning eye of our life-saving, style-rescuing Style Jury!
My Fashion Life News Ed says:
Jessie J – ‘Bold, daring and attention-grabbing, Jessie J isn’t afraid to stand out. This dress goes hand in hand with everything she is about and I love it!’
Florence Welch – ‘A bit of a predictable choice by way of designer and colour, but I wouldn’t have Flo any other way. She knows what works for her, and I can’t flaw this look!’
Pixie Lott – ‘I had to do a double take when I saw this – the usually eccentric, modernly dressed singer looked out of place on the Brits red carpet. This could have been a great opportunity for her to let her wild and playful side come out (one of her cute Lipsy dresses would have been perfect) so I’m a bit disappointed with this.’
Rihanna – ‘Having wowed the Grammy crowd with her plunging Armani gown, it’s no wonder Rihanna is sticking to the winning formula. Flawless and my personal best dressed of the night.’
You say:
‘RiRi amazing, Florence bland, Pixie too tight, Jessie Fergie at the Grammys by numbers…’ – @3BadMice
Verdict
RATE! To the power of three – bar Pixie Lott’s ‘safe’ red carpet option. The style wild child chose the wrong occasion to hold back her eccentric dress sense! The BRIT Awards allow for outfit choices to be daring – it’s a fun celebration of quirky, unrivalled talent, come on! – and that’s why we love how Jessie J, Florence and RiRi chose to go ‘all out.’
Although, at first sight it may seem Jessie J’s sheer red number is edging into Fergie’s orange, cutout Grammy dress territory, her strong makeup and quirky hairdo set them apart. We wouldn’t have Flo in anything other than a dreamy, flo-wing (pun intended) number and RiRi – can this girl do any wrong?
