Famed for his flowing, shiny locks as much as he is for his love of sporting flamboyant Union Jack splashed attire, Made in Chelsea’s resident handsome hunk Ollie Locke seems like apt arm candy to discuss during Jubilee week.
My Fashion Life caught up with him to talk prospective partner qualities, the secret to his shiny hair and, of course, that Union Jack painted Jag…
Describe a typical day in the life of Ollie Locke. What do you get up to?
Nowadays, most days are filled up with filming for Made in Chelsea, photo-shoots and other projects. However on my day off I love exploring London, and getting lost on South Bank; Borough Market on a Saturday; London Aquarium; trying new restaurants, and in the evenings, dinners or driving around London in the Union Jag. I’m also writing two books which keep me beautifully busy.
If you could choose one place in the world to live forever, where would that be and why?
I have a feeling I will end up living between London and California, as I don’t want to be stuck in one place. I love England and it will always be home, however, I’m someone that needs to explore. I love Stellenbosch in South Africa, New York, Cornwall, Tuscany, India and Thailand. I need the sea in my life, so anywhere life takes me, as long as there is wine and the sea; I’ll call that home for the time being!
Tell us about the wardrobe staples you cannot live without?
I love my black Monkee jeans; I take them everywhere and wear them every night. In the winter months I’m a big fan of hoodies and beanies. Summer time I need jackets and shorts with vibrant coloured shoes, and I can’t live without ironed shirts. Also, a specific type of Calvin Klein boxer!
Apart from Made in Chelsea, you’re also famed for your shiny locks – what’s the secret to your perfect hair?
I have my hair done every week at a salon called Neville in Belgravia, and I put them in charge of my hair entirely. I have a treatment every other week, a trim every month, and a blow dry once a week. Apart from that, pretty much dry shampoo, and, also, I don’t own a hairbrush… a little secret.
You seem to have an undying affection for Union Jack prints (Ollie has a Union Jack design painted Jaguar) – how did this come about?
I started Made in Chelsea with an amazing Union Jack jacket from Rhino GB which was originally made for David Bowie, which then started the trend for me. I’m very patriotic and it’s the best fashion flag in the world now.
Where was the last place you went on holiday?
I’m very much due a holiday after this series and will be whizzing off to the south of France in a few days on a writing trip. However, my last holiday was Turks and Kaicos in the Caribbean. I learned to dive and relaxed; it was magical, especially at night, with candles, brass drums and plenty of wine.
What’s the most outrageously outstanding Union Jack printed item of clothing you’ve ever worn?
I have a full union jack tailored suit, which I whip out for the last episode!
Name the things you can’t leave the house without.
Blistex lip conditioner, you will never see me without it in my pocket; phone, wallet, keys. Need a bit of Chanel bronzer as well, just to give an equal skin tone as you never know who you might bump into!
Name the three most important attributes you look for in a prospective partner?
Trust, fun and kindness… you have those things you are pretty much in for a chance…! Looks aren’t as important to me; just make me laugh and I’m yours!
How will you be celebrating the Jubilee?
I will be polishing off the Jag and taking that around. I might even get a driver and go out clubbing with friends.
