Several of our birthdays and Christmasses have come at once, as it’s been revealed that Julien Macdonald has been confirmed as a contestant for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.
“You’ve only got one life. It’s an amazing opportunity – the journey, the people you will meet, the fact viewers will get to see my personality and the funny side of me,” the designer said. I will be able to dance hopefully by the end of it – and that’s why I’ve ended up doing Strictly.
“I like the fact I can have the sparkles and the crystals, and the glamour that I’ve spent my life putting on other people. I’m loving the rhinestones and lace, and the crystals. I just want more and more. I’ll probably look like a Christmas tree by the end of it!”
We told you there was a strong rumour that he might be swapping the catwalk for the ballroom a month ago, but nothing was officially confirmed until today. Other confirmed contestants include model Abbey Clancy, singer Sophie Ellis Bextor, Countdown’s Rachel Riley, Dragons’ Den star Deborah Meaden, and presenter Vanessa Feltz.
You can catch the first show this Saturday at 18:50 on BBC1. We can’t wait!
