True style comes from within rather than from external influences. Yet, at the same time, we are all influenced by fashion and trends whether we like to think so or not. But whilst these two truisms may sound contradictory – they actually aren’t; that’s because it’s always possible and, yes, desirable, to find those things which you feel comfortable in within the realms of today’s fashion
In other words – finding the personal style that is right for you is exactly the right thing to do to look and feel stylish; it’s all about your own comfort level.
But please don’t confuse this with finding comfortable clothing or we’d all be wearing old jeans and baggy sweatshirts all the time. Instead, this is all about being true to yourself rather than trying to please others – and if you make this your number one priority when choosing everything from your clothing to hairstyle, make-up, and accessories.
Unfortunately, it takes most of us too long to realise this – so by the time we gain the kind of requisite maturity for this effortless style, we’re already into our middle plenties (though for some people it seems to be innate).
A good way of thinking about this is to ask yourself what you’d do if you suddenly came into a huge amount of money. What overall style choices would you then be making?
Your immediate answer may be more glamorous than the reality once you’d lived with this for a while. For all of us, real fulfilment comes from within rather than from without – which is why so many young celebs often go off the rails; too much too soon isn’t good for the soul – and the same ethos extends into our style choices.
We all instinctively know this to be true – but making the right choices is ill sometimes difficult as our heads get turned and our egos become swayed. Try not to let this happen. Knowing your inner self is the ultimate goal, here – and it will reflect who you are on the outside and in all elements of your personal style.
