Looks like we will be paying extra close attention to Sonia Rykiel next season, as former Louis Vuitton womenswear studio designer Julie de Libran has just been announced as the new artistic director of the label.
“She was such a powerful woman and she created such a style,” she said of Sonia Rykiel. “I liked that she was a woman designing for women. She was as important for me as Saint Laurent in the Seventies.
“I’m confident. I just want to make beautiful, desirable clothes. I think there’s a space. There’s also so much to do in shoes and accessories.”
No arguments there! Julie de Libran has previously worked with Miuccia Prada and Versace among others, and left Louis Vuitton shortly after Marc Jacobs announced his departure.
We can’t wait to see what she brings to the Sonia Rykiel table!
