Blair Waldorf’s Gossip Girl headbands are going on sale!

As we all know, the end of Gossip Girl is sadly nigh, as the last episode will hit our screens in just a few weeks’ time. (How will we cope without Serena, Blair and friends? The future is looking bleak!) However there is a small silver lining. To commemorate the end of the series, Jennifer Behr, the designer behind some of Blair Waldorf’s most iconic headbands, is giving us the chance to own some of the special pieces either individually or through one almighty gift pack. The hairbands don’t come cheap though, which is hardly surprising given Blair’s wealth and status, especially the coveted black and crystal Queen B headband that was given to Little J Jenny Humphrey at the end of Season 3. If you want to get your hands on aforementioned Queen B headband, you will have to part with $4,000 (no we didn’t add some extra zeros, we really do mean 4,000 big ones!) and snap up the Gift Set, which will get you the piece and eight other Blair Waldorf classics. If you don’t want to part with that much cash though (can’t say we blame you), then the individual pieces have a much more affordable price tag. Watch Alexa Chung’s Gossip Girl cameo

Americans must be quite fond of Alexa Chung, as she seems to be spending a lot of time over there these days. While she’s been in the States, Alexa’s been to many a high profile fashion event, shown her support for Barack Obama by taking part in a public service announcement video, and of course, filmed a cameo appearance for Gossip Girl.  Alexa’s episode aired in the US earlier this week, and thanks to some technological wiz-kids, it’s already available to watch online. We don’t know a great deal about the context of her appearance, but she seems to be taking part in a fashion show that Leighton Meester’s character Blair Waldorf is organising. To celebrate Gossip Girl returning to our screens tonight for what will be the sixth and final season (we promised we wouldn’t get emotional, but excuse us while we bring the Kleenexes closer just in case) we’ve decided to feature the Princesses of the Upper East Side in our daily celeb style feature. And Princesses they certainly are, as both Blake Lively and Leighton Meester put on their finest couture while filming their latest scenes for the show. Blake looked sublime in a metallic and white Georges Chakra Couture gown from the Spring 2011 collection, while Leighton Meester looked as chic and elegant as always in a blue Elie Saab Couture creation. We have no idea what’s in store for their respective characters Serena and Blair, but we predict it’s going to be as scandalous as always! We have to all accept that pretty soon we’re going to have to kiss a long and painful goodbye to Gossip Girl, and as a result, brand new pics of the cast on the set will no longer exist. So, we’re making the most of it while it lasts! Blake Lively was “spotted” (said in our finest Gossip Girl American accent) on Madison Avenue in Manhattan yesterday in a gorgeous summery-blue Marc by Marc Jacobs dress, which was relatively modest in length but very daring at the top by way of a plunging neckline. It really goes to show how much Serena van deer Woodsen’s style has evolved over the years, doesn’t it? Blake/Serena teamed her dress with some coral Christian Dior platform sandals, which makes a nice change from the Christian Louboutins the actress wears when she’s not on set. The giant bag also adds to the overall wow-factor of the outfit, making this another style triumph for our favourite blonde Upper East Sider. Anna Sui, no longer a Gossip Girl?

Anna Sui’s latest line of clothes may no longer be inspired by ‘Gossip Girl’. The fashion designer had been planning to base her range for US store Target on the hit US teen drama. But bosses are said to be unsure about the idea because of the programme’s controversial storylines. A source said: “One of Target’s top executives got nervous about being that closely associated with the show, given the debauchery its characters get into.” ‘Gossip Girl’ is famed for its raunchy storylines, with characters regularly drinking alcohol, having sex and visiting strip clubs. Scenes for the show were set to be filmed in Anna’s flagship store and models wearing her Target range were going to be used as extras, but the store has reportedly pulled out at the last minute.

We all know that 80s bad taste is the trend of the season, and we know that Gossip Girl is a great way to get a fashion fix. For American viewers, last night saw the first flashback scene of Serena’s mother Lily van der Woodsen as a bright young thing back in the 80s, or to many the decade fashion forgot. We see little Lily played by Brittany Snow trying on a whole host of 80s fashions. It was a little taste of things to come, the spin off doesn’t have a title yet, how about ‘Material Girl? But the show will follow Lily during her wild days in LA.

For any of you who have read Imogen Edward-Jones’ Fashion Babylon this will be very exciting news. For those of you who haven’t read Fashion Babylon, shame on you. To give you a little insight, Fashion Babylon is a book exposing all the naughty goings on in the fashion world. Imogen Edward-Jones has written other books including Hotel Babylon and Air Babylon, for all of these she is informed by anonymous insiders in these weird worlds in order to compile her books. Therefore all the shocking secrets are in fact truths, so if you love fashion it is a must read. But anyway, back to Material Girl, Material Girl is the BBC TV version of Fashion Babylon. This is why we were ecstatic to find out that the leggy blonde fashionista is Marie Claire UK’s October cover girl! Now, some of you readers overseas might be scratching your heads wondering where you’ve seen these images before… and we’d hate to be the bearers of bad news, but you’re not Mystic Meg as Blake’s pics are in fact reprints. Alexa Chung gets girlie in floral Anna Sui

Alexa Chung and Janelle Monae, as well as a host of some of the biggest designers, have shown us that dressing like a man has never been hotter! It’s safe to say that our Alexa nails the androgyny trend better than most, but it’s also really refreshing to see her get girlie with her sartorial choices too. We saw a hint of feminine dressing when she hit up the Gossip Girl set for her cameo in the show (still very excited about that by the way!) but this time her Anna Sui floral playsuit from the spring/summer 2012 collection was all for her and not the cameras! Even though Alexa tried something different as she cycled around New York, she still stayed true to herself by wearing her favourite black Charlotte Olympia kitty flats, which add her own personal quirky stamp to an otherwise very girlie outfit. Yesterday’s ‘Celebrity Style’ post was focused on the ever-gorgeous Blake Lively, so as much as we wanted to gush about the TWO beautiful Marchesa and Jenny Packham outfits she wore to The Late Show last night, we thought we’d give someone else a go in the style spotlight. It’s only fair, after all. So, from Gossip Girl to Spice Girl (see what we did there?) we present you: Melanie Chisholm. Mel C, i.e. Sporty Spice, definitely gets our style gold medal for her immaculate appearance at yesterday’s press call for the announcement of the Viva Forever! musical. Don’t act like you’re not excited about it – we’ve seen you Googling the date of opening night! As usual, Victoria Beckham looked pristine, polished and you guessed it, posh, but did you honestly ever think you’d see Sporty Spice in an elegant white mullet dress? No. Exactly – hence why we are showing our appreciation for Mel C’s sartorial choice in the best way we know how. While we loved Emma Bunton’s cute style (we adore those Brian Atwood platforms!) and were quite fond of Geri Halliwell’s flirty (albeit slightly age inappropriate) dress and Mel B’s Lanvin number, Mel C gets our best-dressed vote without a doubt. The first ever Britain’s Next Top Model Live exhibition took place this weekend at London’s impressive ExCel Centre, so with our press passes at the ready and dressed to perfection, the MFL girls were ready to embrace the life of a model. And in more ways than one… The weekend wasn’t spent entirely sipping champagne and browsing the vintage clothing stalls – oh no – us girls had to earn our keep and take centre stage at the Style Icon Workshop to give daily discussions on this season’s biggest trends. Our editor Emily took to the mic as the expert guest speaker giving a confident, funny and insightful look into this season’s camel, leopard print and shearling trends, and brought in a crowd of fashion-hungry girls (and, occasionally, guys) day after day while us interns simply posed on stage in our outfits – oh the hardship. In our free time we explored the wonders of fashion, beauty and music. The stalls were certainly varied, from Zandra Rhodes footwear, Jonathon Aston tights, Bourjois makeup to even teeth whitening, though we had to pass on the latter as the fear of the dentist suddenly took over. Free makeovers and hair styling were also on offer for a bit of well-deserved pampering, all thanks to the London College of Beauty and the world-famous stylist, Adee Phelan. Musical sensations Eliza Doolittle and Diana Vickers provided the lyrical entertainment, while BNTM judge Charlie Speed left many a young girl in a flutter with his live interview on the main Kiss Open Catwalk stage. However, we all agreed that the highlight of our weekend was witnessing the amazing Chyna Whyne in action (although the Tia Maria cocktail bar came a close second). What did we do over the holiday period?  Well, we umm ate loads, drank too much, and wished we’d binge-watched Bridgerton. ‘Cause actually we were kinda late to the party with this one.  We only started watching Bridgerton after seeing so many of our lovely followers tweeting about the show. In particular the eldest daughter Daphne and her quest to find Prince Charming. It’s pretty much Downton Abbey meets Gossip Girl, complimented with fantastic music, stunning outfits and a huge dose of scandal. And it’s funny too. But best of all it was great to see proper diversity in a period drama.  And yeah, it also didn’t hurt that Duke Hastings was so damn CUTE!  Considering all the rubbish news we’ve had lately, Bridgerton was a welcome escape. Huge congratulations this morning to one of the hottest A-list couples in Hollywood – Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds – as it’s just been announced that the pair are expecting their first child. Amazing news to kick-start the week! We don’t think former Gossip Girl star Blake Lively will be concealing her baby bump like Eva Mendes, as she already posted a pic of it to her Preserve website, along with the following statement… “Preserve at its core is about family. Family is the single word our founder, Blake built this home on. We have something for men, for women, for the old, but we realized we don’t have anything for the new. Oh, Leighton Meester, how we have missed you! The former Gossip Girl star and new Mrs Adam Brody (we’re still shocked by this relationship/secret marriage!) is the beautiful cover star of InStyle UK’s November issue… and we couldn’t be happier to welcome her back into our lives! As well as promoting her role in The Judge alongside Robert Downey Jr (out on the silver screen on October 24, FYI), Leighton is also on the promotional trail for her new album Heartstrings. We can’t wait to see her musical talent shine! Although she made a record with Robin Thicke back in 2009 which she said wasn’t really “her”, we think the new album will definitely be Leighton all over… “It was fun, but it wasn’t at all me,” she said of her collaboration with Robin Thicke. “I guess I can look back and say everything happens because you learn from it and you’re better for it. “My favourite thing – at least as far as the music goes, and now, actually, with acting, too – is performing live. Blake Lively’s 73 question challenge for American Vogue August issue

American Vogue has once again given meaning to that “save the best ‘til last” phrase as it debuted it August 2014 issue featuring the one and only Blake Lively. How good does she look on the cover? We definitely think it’s been worth the wait! The former Gossip Girl actress was shot by Mario Testino for the publication’s annual Age Issue, and looked the epitome of perfection in the process. As well as looking phenomenal in each and every one of her pictures (standard!), the actress, Gucci ambassadress and style maven opened up about pretty much everything thanks to an epic 73 question challenge posed by the mag. Trust us, it’s a good’un! We learnt that she wore a coral dress to her prom, that she identifies with all the men in Sex and the City (interesting, especially as we always had her down as a Carrie Bradshaw), and what life with her and Ryan Reynolds is really like. Leighton Meester and new hubby Adam Brody hit the Tony Awards red carpet

We’ve been raving about her former Gossip Girl co-star Blake Lively a lot these past few weeks, but now it’s finally Leighton Meester’s turn to get our sartorial praise. The actress and new Mrs Adam Brody (how cute are they as a couple by the way?) stole the show as she arrived at the Tony Awards, which were held at the world-famous Radio City Music Hall in New York City last night. Leighton wore an absolutely stunning white floor-length Antonio Berardi dress from the pre-fall 2014 collection on the red carpet, with an an Emm Kuo clutch bag and her gorgeous new hubby acting as her only accessories. We love the minimal approach Leighton took for this look, but most of all, we love the retro old Hollywood glamour hair style she chose for the occasion. It complements the dress and the rest of her make-up perfectly, which makes this look absolutely flawless from top to toe. What a great look to kick off the week; the standard has been set pretty high!

The Met Gala 2014: The best dressed!

All the big names in fashion, film, and music gathered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City last night, for the highly anticipated Met Gala! This year, the museum was honouring Charles James, and the dress-code was a very simple (albeit slightly “boring” according to Marc Jacobs) “white tie and decorations”. Anyone familiar with the work of Charles James would know that elegant eveningwear was his thing, so they wouldn’t have gone wrong by donning the finest couture pieces with some elegant jewels. There were many ladies who absolutely nailed their looks, while some probably should have stayed home. Stella McCartney had a big moment on the red carpet, dressing the likes of Rihanna and Reese Witherspoon so flawlesslessly for the event, in two very different but equally stunning dresses. Rihanna went for her signature sexy look, while Reese was a vintage glamour goddess. Selena Gomez also wowed on the red carpet for us, looking very mature for just 21 years old in a bold deep purple Diane von Furstenberg dress. We also love how Gossip Girl stars Blake Lively and Leighton Meester were reunited at the Met Gala – they both looked amazing in  their respective Gucci Premiere and Emilio Pucci dresses. Christian Dior is showing in Brooklyn!

If we learnt one thing from watching five seasons of Gossip Girl, it was that Brooklyn really wasn’t the place to be as far as New York locations were concerned… but it looks like Christian Dior disagrees with that! Akin to Alexander Wang, who received all sorts of media complaints when he decided to stage his latest spring/summer 2014 show there earlier this year, Raf Simons will be hosting the pre-spring/summer2015 Cruise show in Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Navy Yard, to be exact. “We wanted the show to feel very New York, and the Navy Yard’s view and space captures the city,” said a spokesperson for Christian Dior. Celebs, journalists, FROWers and fashionistas alike shouldn’t complain too much though, as Dior will be handing all the travel arrangements, ensuring its guests get there without a fuss. Cars will reportedly drop guests off at the ferry docks on 34th Street and the FDR Drive, and boats will take guests to the fashion show’s exact location. Pretty neat, right? The Christian Dior Cruise 2015 show will take place at the Brooklyn Navy Yard on May 7th at 6:30 pm. [WWD]

Did former Gossip Girl Leighton Meester and former The OC star Adam Brody secretly get married? If we are to believe the reports that have been doing the rounds over the past 24 hours, the answer is a big fat yes! The wedding band on Adam’s finger pretty much gave that away… Adam and Leighton reportedly only got engaged around three months ago, but we think they might just be one of the cutest couples in Hollywood – they’re both incredibly good looking and hail from two of our favourite shows from back in the (sort of) day. Leighton Meester named Biotherm Global Brand Ambassador

Although her co-star Blake Lively has been on countless red carpets and front rows, we haven’t seen much of Leighton Meester since Gossip Girl sadly came to an end. However, it’s just been revealed that she has been named the global brand ambassador for L’Oreal owned skincare brand Biotherm… which should hopefully fill the Leighton Meester void quite nicely. “What I love about Biotherm is it’s always evolving and changing and becoming more modern,” Leighton said in a statement. “Leighton Meester is a contemporary icon, a young star whose natural talent, energy and beauty have made her the face of a generation,” added Patrick Kullenberg, a spokesperson for Biotherm International. Taylor Momsen signs to Next Models

After her Gossip Girl character Jenny ‘Little J’ Humphrey was dropped from the show, it’s all been a bit quiet on the old Taylor Momsen front. (She does have her band The Pretty Reckless which she is the frontwoman of, but it’s not really our cup of tea…) Models on the other hand are our cup of tea, which is why we’re quite excited to learn that she has just been signed to Next Model Management – one of the biggest agencies in the world – who has the likes of Alexa Chung, Jessica Alba, Rita Ora and Lana Del Rey in its books. “I’m excited about my new relationship with Next Models,” she said. “Next has great vision, and will be a fantastic partner in furthering both my music and fashion.” 19-year-old Taylor is no newbie in the modelling world, as she already has some impressive modelling gigs under her belt; she was the face of Madonna and Lourdes’ Material Girl clothing line and has appeared in ad campaigns for New Look and a John Galliano fragrance. Couture Fashion Week highlights from Dior and Giambattista Valli

We always look forward to a Giambattista Valli show regardless of the season, but we were waiting with breath of even more baited proportions for Raf’s (we call him Raf – we like to think of him as our buddy) Christian Dior collection this Couture Fashion Week. We predicted great things for the respective shows, and we weren’t disappointed with the extravagant pieces that floated down the Parisian catwalks. We got a mix of colours and clever layering at Dior, with lots of gowns for celebs to choose from for the upcoming awards season. Although Raf Simons is slowly putting his own signature on the brand, it’s clear to see that he’s respecting and referencing the work of Christian Dior at the same time- why else would the show be taking place in such green surroundings in Paris’ Tuillerie Gardens? Volume was key, which is why there were larger-than-life skirts juxtaposed with slimmer silhouettes and finer tailoring. His vision for the three-piece bar suit was particularly inspiring. Over at Giambattista Valli it was more or less Princess central – or at least high society central. Early scenes from Gossip Girl spring to mind! The full dresses were just as extravagant as we hoped and expected, although we also got some more playful creations this time around with the introduction of mini and midi skirt lengths. Sugary pastels and exquisite, intricate detailing were in abundance, but it’s clear to see that the classic Giambattista Valli girl is spicing things up a bit this season! Last week it was all about Blake Lively for Gucci, but now it’s her Gossip Girl co-star Leighton Meester’s turn to shine on a fragrance ad campaign. After all, Blair Waldorf wouldn’t have it any other way! Leighton is posing pretty for Carter Smith, as she promotes Vera Wang’s new ‘Lovestruck Floral Rush’ scent – a follow-up to the popular ‘Lovestruck’ perfume that she is also the face of! Top notes of this fragrance include champagne, pink pepper and apricot blossom, as well as some pink passion flower, marigold and white freesia in the middle. Sounds pretty scrumptious, but we’ll let you be the judge of that when it comes out later this month.
