There was a lot going on at the weekend; the World Cup, Wimbledon, and of course, Glastonbury. We love spying what the A-listers wear at festivals when they are on the stage singing their hearts out, or off the stage having some down time and enjoying other artists, and the one lady that caught our eye the most was Miss Rita Ora. Rita showcased what hours of hard work in the gym (or perhaps rehearsing for those raunchy and high-action dance moves) looks like by wearing a barely there cropped top and jean shorts while off-duty. We’re a bit confused by the random bit of fur she has thrown over her shoulder, but her abs are doing a good job of distracting us so we’ll let that slide. She completed her look with the must-have footwear choices of Glastonbury – or any festival for that matter – and that was a fab pair of Hunter Original Block Heel Chelsea boots from the autumn/winter 2014 LFW show collection. No heels and flip flops for a festival in England – Hunter wellies are definitely your best friends when there’s rain and mud around. What do you think of Rita’s Glastonbury look? [Image]

Read MoreHow The UK’s Summer Festivals Have Changed Over Time
Are you a festival veteran or a fledgling fan? Whether you’ve been there right at the front row or watched from your sofa at home, the UK’s music festivals of today offer a very different experience to those held in the 1960s and 70s. They can certainly set you back more financially, though that didn’t stop nearly 200,000 Glastonbury 2019 tickets selling out in half an hour — at over £250 each. With transport, food, drink and camping equipment on top of the ticket price, going to a festival can be an expensive business. Looking past the pennies, how else have UK music festivals changed over time? Capacity Do you know the feeling of fighting to find your friends in a packed crowd? Increased popularity means an increased number of punters. Glastonbury first drew a crowd of 1,500 and now pulls in closer to 200,000. That’s not to say crowds are at their biggest, however. The Isle of Wight festival was banned in the 1970s after a particularly bumper year, while a mammoth wall was installed at the Glastonbury site in 2002 to keep ticketless chancers from joining the party. Line-ups While many of the UK’s festivals are best known for rock’n’roll, line-up posters from the past decade reflect shifts in musical tastes as more pop and hip-hop acts find their way to the stage. One noteworthy example is Reading and Leeds Festival. The joint-town weekender’s artist announcements have divided opinions in recent years, with some praising the festival for reflecting society’s diversity and others criticising the organisers from moving away from the music that made them. Sustainability With travel to and from the festival, along with eating, drinking and camping for up to a week, music festivals are bound to have a significant environmental impact. In recent years, however, […]
Read MoreFive Festival Essentials: Your Summer Survival Kit
The sun is starting to shine and summer is just around the corner. We all know what that means – smiles, summer clothes, barbecues and festivals. Whether you’re stomping through the mud in Glastonbury or bathing in the sunshine at Benicassim, it’s essential to go prepared. Grab your sun lotion, pack your shades and please make sure you’ve booked a place on the campsite – festival season is coming. Here are the top five items that form a festival survival kit no girl should be without. 1. Dry Shampoo This is a real life-saver. Most festivals have very few (if any) shower facilities. Why spend your time washing your hair with tap water when you can keep it in good condition with a bottle of dry shampoo? Typically available in spray or powder form, the spray version takes less maintenance. Just spray on, rub in and away you go off to watch Blur on stage. Brands like Batiste are highly reviewed and available cheaply 2. Waterproof Poncho Like every British summer, 2015’s hotter months never fail to deliver the occasional rainstorm. You can either pack a proper waterproof jacket, which tend to be expensive or a little too high-maintenance for the frivolity of a festival, or take a poncho. Light, packable and great for keeping the rain off – they’re a must buy. Make sure you find one that is breathable, as the cheaper plastic models tend to leave you feeling stuffy and sweaty. Funky designs are available from Filthy Fox. 3. Portable Power Pack Gone are the days of a festival without mobile phones, tablets or whatever other electronic you’re bringing with you. Keeping them charged is now pretty simple thanks to advances in portable power units. These are small devices you charge up at home before you head […]

Each year, hundreds of festivals take place around the UK. They are particularly popular in the summer months and tend to attract hundreds of thousands of music lovers. From the popular mud-packed Glastonbury to the dance fuelled ‘V’ festival; there’s something to suit all ages and preferences. If you’re planning on heading to a festival this year, there are quite a few tips you might want to follow. There are so many things you can do to make the most of your experience, such as making use of portable toilet rental. Be prepared to let yourself go Do you love your home comforts? Do you hate getting dirty and can’t stand the thought of not bathing for a whole weekend? If so, you need to either stay at home or be prepared to let yourself go. Festivals are about fun and just enjoying the moment. There are no fancy showers, you’ll be packed closely to other campers and there will be a lot of drinks getting spilled (with a high chance that they’ll end up all over you!). Part of the festival experience is not caring what other people think, allowing yourself to look less than perfect and just enjoying whatever the day brings. Go with an itinerary The Telegraph has published a great article on the top festival survival tips and avoiding the temptation to see everything is just one on the list. The thing is, there is so much happening at festivals that it can be difficult to see the whole lot. By trying to go and experience all that there is to offer, you could end up missing some essential parts of the day. Make sure you do a little research beforehand to see when your favourite acts are playing and what other entertainment is available. Then […]
Read MoreThis House of Holland Beats by Dre strap is all you need this festival season!
Just yesterday we told you about the epic Fendi collaboration with Beats by Dre, and although that was very exciting news, impatient fashionistas weren’t too happy about having to wait until January next year to their hands and ears on a pair. However, Henry Holland is here to save the day, as not only has the designer collaborated with Beats by Dre on a limited edition portable speaker strap (is there anyone the company hasn’t worked with?!) but it’s actually available to buy right now. Well, Monday actually, but that’s not too far away. Hallelujah! The House of Holland Beats by Dre portable Beats Pill XL speaker is bigger and louder than ever, and probably brighter and more colourful too now that Henry Holland has got on board. “The best thing about the Beats pill XL is that you can take it anywhere so why not carry it like a fur trimmed accessory?” he commented. “I can’t wait to see them at Glastonbury and anywhere there’s music and sunshine.” Here’s hoping that Glastonbury remains a sunny and rain-free affair. The exciting thing about the strap – apart from the fact that it’s a direct extension of Henry’s ultra bold and print-tastic Resort collection – is that it can also hold things like iPhones (perfect for festival selfies) and money, so it really is the must-have festival accessory. You can get yours at the official House of Holland website for £269.95 from Monday. [Grazia]
Read MoreFestivals: What not to forget
Glastonbury may have come and gone, but there are still plenty of late-summer British festivals on the horizon – End of the Road in Dorset, Zoo Project in Northamptonshire and Reading and Leeds to name but a few. If you’re heading to any of these, chances are you’ll need to pick up some last-minute essentials before you go – so here’s a handy list of what not to forget: Waterproofs You might have gotten away with not bringing a raincoat earlier in the season, but now we’re in late summer waterproofs are serious business. Just one waterproof coat and some wellies should be plenty – and if nothing else, it’s an excuse to get a pair of those fashion wellies you’ve had your eye on! If space is a premium, at least consider a poncho and some shoe covers instead. Something warm While you might be hoping for sunny days, there’s the nights to think about too – and even with a roll mat, the ground gets pretty chilly in a tent after dark. Pick up some comfy jumpers or hoodies – for an extra style injection, these hoodies from Original Penguin are just the ticket. Alternatively, get yourself a onesie to show everyone who the daddy is. Camping stuff Pop-up tents are ideal for festivals: cheap, easy to set up and sturdy enough to last at least a few trips. Don’t forget your sleeping bag and a roll mat – they make all the difference when you’re crashing back in your tent at 4am. And unless you fancy shelling out £6 a pop for a halloumi burger, it’s not a bad idea to bring a camping stove and a few tins of food. Toiletries Festival toilets are undeniably grim places. You can make things a bit better on yourself […]

Read MoreIs Rihanna headlining Glastonbury this year?
Designing a collection for one of our favourite high street stores might not be Rihanna’s only reason to jet into Britain this year. According to various reports that have been doing the rounds this morning, the singer has been tapped to headline the Glastonbury Festival later this summer… and we won’t lie, we’re already pretty excited! “She is the perfect choice,” a ‘source’ allegedly told The Daily Star. “Beyonce stole the show two years ago and there’s no reason why Rihanna can’t do the same. She’s got a huge back-catalogue and is undoubtedly the biggest female artist around at the moment bar Adele.” Hopefully there will be an official statement confirming the speculation soon so we can get our tickets. And who knows, Ri Ri might even take to the stage in her very own Rihanna for River Island collection! [Marie Claire]
Read MoreCheck out Beyonce’s Glastonbury-inspired House of Deréon ads
We don’t usually associate Glastonbury Festival with beauty and glamour. Sure, there are ways to look stylish with some on-trend wellies and crop tops, but you’d never realistically expect to look like the goddess that is Beyonce at a muddy music festival, would you? Still, that hasn’t stopped Beyonce and photographer Jean-Baptiste Mondino from seeking inspiration from Glasto for the autumn/winter 2012 campaign images for House of Deréon, the clothing line Bey works on with her mother Tina Knowles. “The images of Beyoncé are amazing and we had a lot of fun using the festival experience as our inspiration,” Tina said. “Like music, fashion has a universal appeal and we look forward to hearing the consumer’s reaction to the new campaign and to the collection.” Well Tina, let us tell you. Akin to all other Beyonce pics in existence, we think the ads are gorgeous. However, we think it’s a bit unrealistic to aspire to look even an eighth as stunning at a festival as Beyonce does in these pics. Having said that, we don’t mind snapping up a few of the covetable pieces in the new collection and giving it a good go… after all, there’s no harm in trying, is there? We’re all over the high waisted leopard print maxi skirt! [Fashionista]

The sun’s out (once every three days), bare legs are finally making an appearance and lipgloss is making a comeback – it has to mean one thing – Festival season is about to hit! Whether it be Bestival, Wireless or Glastonbury, they’re all guaranteed to include long, booze induced days, countless long-lost laughs, hundreds of cringeworthy photos and a number of grooming issues! Stinky toilets, smelly armpits, and running mascara all form part of the joy of the festival experience – but surely there is something we can do to make the experience as gruesome-free as possible? And like any well phrased question has an answer – MFL has a product (or a cupboard full of them) for every occasion! Let’s start with skin… Forget layers of foundation and multiple concealers – the real secret to being a festival hottie is not a face like a market stall – cluttered and congested, but clean, glowing skin. The extreme conditions – lots of people, a sweaty environment, galleons of alcohol, sleepless nights and constant sun exposure is going to take its toll on your face pretty quickly – so by minimalising the things on it you’re also cutting down the chance of a mass breakout mid song! So, to get that clean, glowing look – use MAC’s Strobe Cream – it’ll not only give dull skin a lift after a sleepless night, but will also make your skin brighter and tighter under the harsh glare of the sun! Don’t forget to take sunscreen – even if it does rain – you can still burn under a cloudy sky – we recommend Lancaster Sun Sport Express Mist because of its water resistance capabilities! Oh and for panda eyes – use Origins GinZing refreshing eye cream – it’ll soon reduce the puffiness and dark circles […]
Read MoreThe Men of Glastonbury 2009
Since Kate Moss donned her little hot-pants outfit to the UK’s favourite music event – Glastonbury – a few years ago, festival goers have treated the occasion like a bizarre, mud-filled catwalk – parading their finest (and often loudest) wardrobes to the masses. The best (or maybe worst) thing about this? There are no rules. But let’s not limit this to the girls. And having said that, to the festival crowd themselves. Performers after all, are under the scrutiny of the fields of fashionistas, fans and cameras, and the men are no exception. Here’s a few that we’ve picked out: Pete Doherty – Dressed in his faithful trilby hat, Pete chose a military/old band style top in a black and gold jersey material for his performance on The Other Stage. Thumbs up to Pete for the casual take on this formal theme. Although we’re not so sure about the navy blue polo shirt underneath, luckily Pete can pull off just about anything without it looking out of the ordinary.

Henry Holland was delighted when Take That wore his tartan fabric during their recent tour. The British designer, who founded the House of Holland label has revealed the band’s stylist Luke Day personally approached him to see if he could provide red checked fabric for the pop stars’ ‘Circus’ stage costumes. He said: “Luke Day, who styles Take That and did the tour, asked if we had any left over tartan he could use for some costumes. They had the pieces made to fit in with the show and it was just using our special house tartan fabric. There were two jackets and two trousers.” The style icon, who is close friends with platinum blonde model Agyness Deyn, was thrilled with the end result. The Barbour jacket – it’s as quintessentially English as Big Ben and Pimms. While this iconic brand was once the uniform of rural aristocracy (think polo playing girls and pigeon shooting gents), a growing celebrity fan base including Kate Middleton, Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards, Alexa Chung and former boyfriend Alex Turner have made it both mainstream and seriously cool. The trend is showing no sign of losing its appeal. With everyone wearing theirs a little differently, the Barbour is not only a style must-have, but a very flexible one too. Countryside chic Princess Diana can be credited with single-handedly bring the Barbour jacket to the masses. Wearing a green Barbour for a more casual, relaxed look, she was the poster girl for the fabulous ‘Sloane Ranger’ look that would later lead to a rise in sales of not only Barbour but Harris Tweed and Hunter wellingtons. Still a strong look for strolling in the great outdoors, wear the green Barbour with a thick knit jumper and high-waisted tweeds. Girly cool Back in 2007 Lily was at the forefront of the new Barbour wave, wearing her waxed Barbour jacket over a hoody and bright pink dress throughout her performance at Glastonbury. Instantly making Barbour accessible and effortlessly cool, a whole host of celebs followed suit and built Barbour into their festival fashions, and later into urban wear too. Make like Fearne Cotton and Alexa Chung by teaming the classic black waxed Barbour with cord collar with short, girly dresses or A-line skirts. Smart and masculine And if you thought Barbour was just for the ladies, think again. When Daniel Craig donned the Beacon Heritage Sports Jacket in Skyfall, sales of the jacket soared as bloggers and internet fashionistas waxed lyrical about how an already hot Mr Bond looked even hotter. The jacket was […]

Ladies, don’t fear flats – flats are our friends! Not only are they super-comfy, and not only do they make running for the bus or train just that little bit easier, but they also look pretty gosh darn good with just about anything. They might not be our first choice for Glastonbury and other such muddy festivals, but when it comes to choosing a comfy pair of footwear for a brisk walk around London, a casual commute to the office, or a Cara Delevingne style tomboy chic look, they are there for us in their hundreds. To save you time, we’ve looked through those aforementioned hundreds and chosen five of our current favourite flats: 1. – Kate Middleton knows how powerful and leg-elongating a good nude heel can be, but that doesn’t mean a nude flat isn’t powerful either. Au contraire, this pointed flat is as elegant as it is versatile – we challenge you to find a harder working flat! Read MoreWho wore Jaeger better…Mollie King vs. Caroline Flack?
Keeping it super-casual this week, we’re taking a little break from red carpet power looks and, instead, giving the high street a chance at taking part in a fash-off war. Stepping in out in the same Jaeger leopard print coat recently, were two Brit babes who regularly make the headlines for their individual style. Mollie King and Caroline Flack, both famed for their polished and preppy-meets-quirky preferences, respectively, sported the high street cover-up just a day apart! Ms. Flack was the first to step out in the £275 ovoid coat at Glastonbury, back in June. Teaming the stylish cover up with a white shirt, wide brim fedora hat, black shorts, ankle boots and oversized sunnies, she brought a fresh twist to festival dressing. Second in line was Mollie King, who was spotted in the same coat on her way to the KISS FM studios in London, earlier this month. Mollie styled the coat with a LBD, tan pumps and matching Aspinal ‘Barbarella’ bag. Rayban wayfarers completed her look. So, whose look’s a winner? It’s a tough one, because both ladies effortlessly put their personal stamp on the chic coat, but we’re going with the ever-polished Mollie King on this one. Flackers, we love you, but those rolled up sleeves just won’t cut it! Do you agree?
Read MoreThe Three Mul-bears: Mulberry adds baby Carter to its burgeoning brood of arm candy
Almost rhyming with latest Beckham tot and in its own right still a baby, allow us to introduce Carter: the newest member of the heritage English brand, Mulberry. The latest staple-to-be AW11 offering plays up to the typical Mulberry character: functional and aesthetically pleasing with an edge. The Carter bag promises thrice the style potential, appearing in ‘Mini’, ‘Camera Bag’ and ‘Double Handle’ form and has quite possibly won us over – albeit three times. That’s not to say we won’t be optioning on our favourite, but first let’s dissect its design credentials and see what sets the Carter apart from Emma Hill’s previously celebrated creations. Starting with the Carter Double Handle bag; the largest of the trio and a refreshing alternative to the repeated satchel style Mulberry is so famed for, it features the brand new double lock front plaque and twisted leather and chain double handle. Presented in multipurpose Birds Nest (a stone shade), Midnight and Black, were coveting the Midnight Croc Nappa version, and were not the only ones. A-listers Emma Watson and Kirsten Dunst were a sweet vision, spotted occupying their forearms with the Carter Double Handle. Staying true to our fight for luxury bags you can fit your life into, were saying yes to the Double Handle Carter which provides ample storage inches – well worth its ample £995 price tag. Next in line sits the Carter Camera Bag. A downsized version with the same design features and colour variations, except an added extra which is actually the one we’re coveting: the Fox Brown Suede version. The Camera Bag is a fuss-free bag hoarder’s ideal companion – fitting in the essentials, but not as space consuming as the Carter Double Handle. We like how it meets the middle ground perfectly and the adjustable twisted leather […]

As you well know, here at MFL we’re rather partial to a fashion TV series or two, and none more so than Frock Me with TK Maxx, back on TV screens in the UK for a second series to brighten up the bleakest Sunday mornings. Hosted by super-style icon Alexa Chung, London designer Henry Holland and Radio 1 style expert Gemma Cairney, Frock Me follows fashion through its rampant relationship with music as it highlights top trends for the season, chats to the very best in the business, gives DIY styling tips, and shows you how people on the street are working – and styling – the season’s best trends… in a nutshell. Naturally, we were obliged to catch up with Henry and Gemma when TK Maxx invited us to London’s Zetter hotel last week where, alongside a few other bloggers, we quizzed the pair on all things Frock Me and fashion. We’ve seen three shows so far, can you tell us what we can expect from the rest of the series?
