It’s a regal competition today! TV and Film royalty, Naomi Watts faces off against… well, actually royalty in the form of Kate Middleton! Both ladies were seen stepping out in an LWD (little white dress) fit for a princess. With Naomi wearing the crochet dress during a commercial for Jacobs Creek, whilst Kate sported the dress not only during her tour Down Under earlier this year, but also at Wimbledon! Naomi Watts looks absolutely breath-taking. The summery dress is the epitome of evenings in the sun with a glass of wine. From the vineyards behind her to her natural tousled hair to her simple thread bracelets, Naomi glows. Her natural make-up accentuates the easy-going nature of her dress, making her look impossibly pretty. Kate wore the dress sometime later, and both styled their dresses very similarly. With both ladies opting for low-key accessories and make-up, it’s a tough call! Ever since that wedding dress Kate has become something of a Goddess to us mere mortals. Boys fancy her, girls want to dress like her, and we personally want to be her. Rarely putting a fashion forward Louboutin out of place, Kate graces royal events like their her own personal catwalks. Verdict:So who emerges our style queen?! It’s a close one, but Naomi edges it. Kate’s make-up seems heavier than Naomi’s and her pearl drop earrings and watch add unnecessary fuss that Naomi avoids. It basically comes down to the fact that Naomi looks as if she woke up, splashed some water on her face, and wore an amazing Zimmermann dress…. And managed to look stunning. I think I hate her. In a totally irrational ‘I want to be you’ sort of way.

Kate vs. Diana…Who wore red better during the New Zealand tour?
Wore what: Kicking off their royal tour of New Zealand, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge landed at Wellington airport’s military terminal yesterday – cutest babe-cessory in tow – looking every inch, well, regal. For the official occasion, Kate chose a striking red Catherine Walker coatdress and matching pillbox hat, and the media was quick to remind everyone of the same occasion, over three decades ago, when the late Princess Diana chose a similar look for the same event. Although hers was a black and red look, complete with a contrasting black clutch, Kate wins for the most adorable royal accessory, hands down. Narrowly avoiding puddles before the world’s media, whilst effortlessly carrying an excited 9-month-old in your arms is no mean feat; and we think Kate did a beyond fantastic job! Unsurprisingly though, this makes the job of choosing a winning look near impossible! Who wins: Famed for her gentle nature and beauty that shied away, Princess Diana’s look for the official visit back in 1983 was a fashion triumph: making coats cool as the centrepiece of a look. And this is a tradition that Kate, too, has carried on. From her M Missoni look as a wedding guest to the Maxmara number named after her; she’s elevated the humble coat’s status to party staple so effortlessly, we all want in. Given her respectful ode to Diana’s legendary wardrobe at such an important event, and the fact that we’re struggling to get over the explosive levels of Prince George’s cuteness; we declare both looks as winners. Whether you love her or loathe her (and we don’t believe you if you do the latter), 2011 owes itself solely to one woman: Kate Middleton. Though her style remains distinctly average in our book (string us up and hang us for treason), there’s no denying the effect the Duchess of Cambridge has had on the world. And, since everything she wears sells out in seconds, the fashion brands she favours have got a lot to thank her for. Like everyone else, we’re kind of intrigued with her influence, so we’ve trawled through Kate’s best looks from this year to see her rise from pauper (ha!) to Princess in pictures, which has lead us to the following conclusions: 1) she’s a mega-fan of the high street, 2) she only wears a handful of designers and regurgitates them as necessary, 3) June was a particularly good month. Before you read the title and assume the royal marriage is now defunct, read on. Kate is still very much married to Britain’s most eligible bachelor and she still has to curtsey before the woman with a penchant for pastels and lady like handbags: Queenie. But the woman: our future- squeakily clean and perfect dimple sporting – queen has recently come into the spotlight for matters other than her immaculate Reiss and Whistles ensembles. Simultaneous firing from the fashion gentry, criticising Kate’s elevated style status, overindulged eyeliner and ‘thrifty’ trait has been interesting. See, in fashion, it is believed some people have the ‘right’ to comment and reflect, while others should silence their opinions for lack of a Vogue subscription. In my opinion: Kate Middleton is good at being as normal as they get. ‘They’ being the girls, who shop in local supermarkets, wear the same dress on more than one occasion and even agree to wear silly hats to match their husbands – who in Kate’s case just happens to be a prince. That’s all. If anything, there is a heightened need for Kate to maintain normality when reflecting on the haunting past of her late mother-in-law. In an interview with Sunday Times magazine, fashion veteran Vivienne Westwood spoke of her disagreement with Kate’s heavily kohl-rimmed eyes. This followed on from the comments made by Dutch design duo, Viktor & Rolf, who pleaded with Kate to de-kohl in order to let her natural beauty shine though. The Second Wedding as it will probably come to be known took place on July 30, when the Queen’s granddaughter wed long-term beau Mike Tindall in what was a surprisingly innovative affair by royal standards, complete with drunken merriment thanks to a vodka fountain; fish and chips and a best man with a black eye (Yes, we’re just as intrigued). But let’s cut to the chase – were not concerned with the finer details of the biggest day of this royal’s life as much as we’re feasting our eyes on what she wore. Yes, (deep breath) another dress to dissect and ingest, only to throw up and re-examine in a different light. We were taken aback by Kate’s dress choice as she stayed true to her homeland but chose a designer so eccentric, the fashion population couldn’t help but choke with happiness. She broke free from the quintessential shackles of ‘well-behaved’ royal wedding wear, and chose to let her fashion personality coyly peep through her silk tulle McQueen veil. But for me, equestrienne Zara’s novel approach to selecting her wedding dress truly defines the term ‘granny chic.’ She only went and chose Stewart Parvin, her grandmother’s regular (and favourite) outfitter and the very man who kitted out Queenie on the day. OK, to the dress: a fussy silk tulle cathedral veil which appeared to oddly sprout from the top of Zara’s head rather than fall gently onto her face wasn’t the most appealing first view as she stepped out from the car, but things improved slightly as we focused lower down. The dress itself; a silk faille and duchess satin creation with a corseted waistline appeared flattering, but averagely exciting. Originally called Greta, the British brand is re-launching the black patent espadrille wedges under a new name – The Kate – which is a little tacky whichever way you look at it. Still, at least their price will remain the same (£150), unlike a certain Whistles blouse. Apparently ‘The Kate’ already has a waiting list, or so says the Daily Mail, so if you were hoping to get your paws on them, you’d better join now. How much of an impact, then, does she have on the sales of her favourite stores and pieces? Let’s do a little digging. When Kate wore her off-white Nannette wrap dress from Reiss in her official engagement photos, the retailer rushed to reissue its AW09 dress just one month later, such was the hysteria surrounding the style. Naturally, it sold out again almost immediately. Similarly, when Kate wore her Whistles blouse for her engagement photos – y’know, the other ones – the store re-released it at £30 more than it was originally priced in 2008, only for it to sell out in record time. But Kate’s style doesn’t just impact on the pieces she owns and wears – it impacts on any piece remotely similar to something she’s worn. Take her Burberry trench coat, for example. The princess stepped out rocking one of the British label’s iconic cover-ups in the rain back in February this year, and women the world over went crazy to get their hands on a similar design. George at Asda reported its online sales of classic camel macs to rise by 300% following Kate’s appearance – and that’s just a supermarket store. So what are we saying? If you’re a high street store and Kate wears you, you’re sorted. Sometimes it pays to be a princess.

Sara Parker-Bowles -SPB will be wearing a look from London-based designer Osman. Viscountess Serena Linley – lucky girl, she’ll be wearing Roland Mouret with Manolo Blahnik shoes, an Anya Hindmarch clutch and a hat by Stephen Jones. Lady Helen Taylor – she’s chosen a dress from fashion favourite Erdem Chelsea Davy – Prince Harry’s ex (yes!) will be wearing Italian label Alberta Ferretti.

And here’s what she bought: A lace trim blouse, £55; a feather print one shoulder dress, £45; a tropical bird print dress, £65; and a bright bandeau frill dress, £45 (all pictured above). The location of the royal couple’s honeymoon still remains a secret, but we’re guessing they’re off somewhere tropically sunny, if her purchases are anything to go by. It’s Official. Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Are Engaged
It’s the news we’ve all been waiting for – Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are engaged! With news trucks camped outside Kensington Palace, we expected confirmation at the weekend, of what was possibly the worst kept secret. Instead however, Clarence House made the announcement today. Harry, 33 and Meghan, 36, have been in a relationship for 16 months. They first made an official public appearance together at the Invictus Games in September and became secretly engaged earlier this month in London. The wedding will be held in Spring 2018 and they’ll reside at Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace. So what can we expect now? Well, the couple will make an official engagement appearance this afternoon and will also take part in a broadcast interview in the evening. According to the statement issued by Clarence House, “further details about the wedding will be announced in due course”. Speaking about the pending nuptials, Prince William and Kate said, “We are very excited for Harry and Meghan. It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together.” While Meghan’s parents, Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland, gave their blessing saying, “We are incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry. Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents. We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together.” And The Queen and Prince Philip’s official Twitter account tweeted, “The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are delighted for the couple and wish them every happiness.” We’re definitely super happy here at MFL HQ.
