The Queen Made A Visit To London Fashion Week.Yes, Really!

Yesterday saw two (albeit very different) Queens seated together at London Fashion Week. Yep Richard Quinn’s presentation saw Her Royal Highness sat on the frow next to undoubtedly the Queen of fashion and editor of American Vogue, Anna Wintour. With lots of smiles and laughter, while it appeared that Her Majesty enjoyed the collection which was packed with obvious nods to the guest of honour, her attendance was in fact specifically to present Quinn with the Queen Elizabeth II award for British design. Organised by the British Fashion Council and the Queen’s dressmaker, Angela Kelly, the Queen was officially welcomed by the BFC’s CEO, Caroline Rush who gave a speech saying, “Your Majesty, I know you do not wish to be known as a fashion icon, but from all of us in this room, we have the utmost respect for you and also for your hard work and diligence.” Wearing a blue tweed skirt suit, the monarch was greeted with cheers as she presented the British designer with his much deserved award, and stated that the award was “a tribute to the industry and my legacy and all those who have contributed to British fashion.” What a wonderful surprise!

Tom Ford explains why he’s leaving London Fashion Week

When Tom Ford announced that he wouldn’t be showing his autumn/winter 2015 collection in London, the capital city was up in arms! However, the designer explained that despite heading to Los Angeles for his new-season collection next year, the move is only temporary, and he will be returning to us in September. Hooray! ”I have loved LA since I first moved there from New York in the early 1980’s,” the 53-year-old Texan designer said. “So many visuals in our world are filtered through Los Angeles including music, television and film and in this way it influences global fashion in a profound way. “Like fashion, film is also a creative endeavour that is extremely important to me. I am excited to bring these two aspects of my life together by presenting the collection in Los Angeles. “I love London, and I am not abandoning London Fashion Week. It’s a one time thing, it made sense for me, and I plan to be back in September. Phew! What he didn’t mention above though was that his temporary move might have something to do with the Oscars, which coincide with London Fashion Week which will begin one week earlier next season. London Fashion Week SS15 highlights from Burberry, Tom Ford, Christopher Kane and more!

There were two surprises on the Burberry Prorsum catwalk yesterday afternoon. One – the absence of heels. And two – the absence of Cara Delevingne. Instead, the show was closed by Bradley Cooper’s very lucky and very gorgeous girlfriend Suki Waterhouse – a sign that she is becoming the new Cara perhaps? – while Cara herself joined the likes of Kate Moss and other A-listers on the front row. Do you think she had catwalk envy and FOMO? Elsewhere in London, we saw a very rock ‘n’ roll collection from Tom Ford, who definitely pulled out all the stops for his London Fashion Week show. Heels and stockings were high, and hemlines were low and practically non-existent; it was dark, it was daring, it was provocative, it was overtly sexual – it was Tom Ford in a nutshell! It wasn’t all sordid outfits that Rihanna and Miley Cyrus would be fighting over though, as there was an element of 70s glam rock in there too thanks to the flared sparkly gold trousers – possibly our favourite piece from the entire collection! London Fashion Week SS15 highlights from Mulberry, Topshop Unique, Marchesa and more!

London Fashion Week certainly didn’t ease us into the new season’s offerings gently, as it plunged straight in with fabulous collection after fabulous collection. Mary Katranztou once again pushed boundaries with her dance inspired collection, while both Whistles and Topshop Unique gave us hope that we can partake in the new-season trends at a fraction of the high end designer price. And as sportswear was a big theme of the Topshop Unique show, we definitely think versatility and wearability will spring to mind when deciding on whether to splash out on the new season pieces. After all, who doesn’t want to tell themselves they’ll head to the gym and be the most fashionable one there… Elsewhere in London, Mulberry proved that it doesn’t need a creative director at the helm to churn out an inspired collection with a great vision, and Marchesa once again made us completely envious of each and every model lucky enough to be draped in the exquisite designs. Marchesa is coming to London Fashion Week!

We have very exciting news for all you London fashionistas, this morning, as it’s just been announced that Marchesa will be showing its spring/summer 2015 collection at London Fashion Week this September! Exciting stuff! Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig will be swapping New York for London later this year, as the designing duo celebrate their label’s ten year anniversary by bringing their collection home. We had been speaking with the British Fashion Council,” Georgina Chapman said. “We felt it was a good way to celebrate our anniversary.” Stateside Marchesa lovers shouldn’t despair though – the label will be back in the Big Apple for the autumn/winter 2015 collection in February next year, as the London move is just a one-time thing. John Rocha retires from London Fashion Week

Don’t expect to see John Rocha on the London Fashion Week schedule in September – or anywhere else for that matter, as the designer has just confirmed that he will be retiring from Fashion Week! “If I stay, I want to have something to say and I always want to keep the standard high. The last couple of collections I looked back on and I thought to myself, ‘that is really the best work I can do’,” the designer said. “For the last few years I can see lots of talented people and designers coming up and with so much young talent you have to work so much harder, and I’m not going to do it until I drop! “In 40 years I have never taken more than ten days holiday at once. At this point in my life I want to live by my calendar and not the Fashion Week calendar. Stopping allows me to do that. It’s not an overnight decision, Odette and I have been talking about it for some time.” Although John Rocha won’t be showing his collection at London Fashion Week, we bet he will still be showing his face as his daughter Simone Rocha (who was awarded ‘Emerging Womenswear Designer of the Year’ at the 2013 British Fashion Awards) debuts her latest collection on the catwalk. Yes, we’re mad for Preen, but what we really want to know is our way around Poppy Delevingne’s next FROW ensemble. And boy did she look good in a polka dot blouse and mannish coat at Burberry Prorsum. No rest for the wicked – or stylish – Day 4 of London Fashion Week was just as jam-packed and exciting as ever; and we were there to take in all the action! Where else would we be on a day when Burberry, David Koma, Michael van der Ham, Tom Ford and Roksanda Ilincic are showcasing their autumn/winter 2014 collections, eh? Burberry AW14 One of the highlights of the day – and the five day event as a whole – was the Burberry Prorsum autumn/winter 2014 show. Luckily it was a dry affair (not that a little or a lot of rain would have stopped us) and the front row was as star-studded as ever. Bradley Cooper, Harry Styles, Sky Ferreira, Anna Wintour and more celebs graced the front row to view the collection first hand – and we think they would have been pretty chuffed with what they saw. If there was one thing we took away from the show, It was that we need to go scarf shopping asap. Scarves as you know them will no longer suffice, as it’s all about the oversized ones that can double up as a blanket. Or you could just buy a blanket with your initials on, as they too made it down the Burberry runway in the epic finale. Burberry definitely didn’t do things by halves in the music department either, as we were treated to a stellar performance by the one and only Paloma Faith. Pipe envy! Overall, Burberry presented a soft, casual, comfortable and warm collection which Christopher Bailey said was inspired by the Charleston Farmhouse in Sussex of the Bloomsbury Group. London Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Emilia Wickstead, Joseph, Hunter Original & more

Braving the gusty elements, Team MFL trekked to Somerset House (and beyond) for day two of London Fashion Week fashtivities. Well, given today’s stellar schedule, cosying up indoors and living vicariously through Style.com just wasn’t an option! Winter work wear woes went straight out the window at Holly Fulton, this morning, as the ideal “working girl” made her way down the runway. Etching the collection purely from her experience as a working woman – but one with a head for serious, workable fashion – Fulton gave us masculine coats imprinted with stunning motifs; sheath dresses and fluid pencil skirts featuring kookily enlarged mobile phone bearing hand motifs – avec perfecto manicured nails, of course. A nod to the “corporate cog” came courtesy of a glittery knit printed with the aforementioned component, while mini briefcases and stacked bangles alluded to Fulton’s ability to create magic with her hands, literally. Effortlessly moving from a black to grey palette, Joseph is the go-to label for those channelling fashion’s new comfort-led direction. The autumn/winter 2014 presentation promised chill-proof staples with that rooted for masculine allure. Long-line, voluminous knits sat atop perfectly tailored pants, while the sharpness of a suit blazer was tempered with pleated skirts, pussy-bow blouses and touches of mid-Western fringing sliced in black leather. A coordinating trio of peg leg pants, oversize knit and beanie hat broke away from the neutral colour trail, but otherwise, this collection is an easy- goers dream come true. Possibly the dreamiest of designers when it comes to this side of the pond; this season, Emilia Wickstead reminded us of those dark, wintry nights we refuse to embrace with ease. London Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Bora Aksu, Felder Felder, DAKS & more

New York Fashion Week got us officially geared up for the autumn/winter 2014 trends, so we weren’t going to let a little (ok a big, inconvenient and suede-shoe-destroying but we’re fine, we’re over it) thing like rain stop us from flocking to Somerset House along with the equally drenched fash-pack to see what the first day of London Fashion Week had to offer. Felder Felder, DAKS, Eudon Choi, Bora Aksu and J JS Lee all showcased their new season creations to the fashionable London crowds, and didn’t seem phased by the pressure to make sure their collections matched the standard of those in the Big Apple. Tommy Hilfiger inspired us to go on a snowy, winter hike, and Jackie Lee has inspired us to go camping thanks to the new autumn/winter 2014 pieces we saw early this morning. There was an abundance of houndstooth and check print that adorned the casual, cool, practical but on-trend pieces, and the colour palette was kept understated. A far cry from her feminine, all-pink collection from last season, but isn’t versatility and the ability to create the shock factor what a good fashion designer is? We rest our case; well done J JS Lee! Eudon Choi got us all into the party spirit/gave us that Friday feeling thanks to the Rolling Stones soundtrack. Sex and drugs are optional, but rock and roll was essential! Legendary music choices aside, we saw lots of tartan on the catwalk (we told you, didn’t we?) although it came in a colder, bluer hue than the traditional red one we’re used to. L’Wren Scott cancels London Fashion Week show!

Uh oh – according to reports that has surfaced this morning, it doesn’t look like L’Wren Scott will be showing at London Fashion Week this season. The designer was scheduled to showcase her autumn/winter 2014 collection this Sunday during London Fashion Week, but has been forced to cancel due to “production delays in key show and couture pieces.” L’Wren Scott fans will still be able to see the new collection, as the designer has pledged to unveil it on social media. Press, editors, retailers and special guests will also be able to sneak a peek with their own eyes at her Paris showroom in March, so it’s not all bad! Mother of Pearl joins the official London Fashion Week schedule!

We’ve already told you about Joseph and Whistles, and now we have another brand new name to add to the ever-growing London Fashion Week schedule this morning: say hello to new arrival, Mother of Pearl! “Mother of Pearl has been quietly growing and is rapidly gaining loyalty and support from key retailers, customers and press alike,” creative director Amy Powney said. “We are delighted to have been selected by the British Fashion Council to debut the autumn/winter 2014 collection and we hope our presentation can support our growth and put an international spotlight on us and introduce the brand to new editors and stockists, along with supporting the British fashion industry.” Mother of Pearl was founded by Maia Norman, with the label teaming up with a different leading artist every season. Whistles joins London Fashion Week schedule for the first time

This time next month we’ll be in the middle of London Fashion Week (where does the time go, eh?) and we’re pretty excited to see yet another newcomer on the official schedule… let’s all welcome British high street brand Whistles to LFW! “We are delighted to be a part of the schedule this season,” said Whistles CEO Jane Shepherdson. “It is great to be recognised by the British Fashion Council and the press that have supported the brand over the years. “It’s a good opportunity for us to meet all the international press that attend and that are steadily growing in their numbers and showing their support.” We’ll definitely be showing our support! The first on-schedule Whistles showing will be in presentation format so we can get a better idea of the essence of the brand, but who knows if a catwalk show will follow next season? Provisional London Fashion Week schedule released!

The provisional London Fashion Week schedule for the autumn/winter 2014 season has finally been released, and it looks like this February is going to be as jam-packed as ever. Bora Aksu will kick off the proceedings with a 9 am catwalk show at good old Somerset House on Friday 14th February (talk about a Valentine’s treat!), with Felder Felder, Daks, Mark Fast and Todd Lynn (among others) also pencilled for that day. Jasper Conran will show his new collection first thing on Saturday morning, followed by the likes of Orla Kiely, Ashish, Holly Fulton, J.W Anderson, Julien Macdonald and House of Holland. We told you last month that one of our favourite brands would be absent from the schedule; as you can see there’s no sign of a Mulberry show but that doesn’t mean we won’t get to see the autumn/winter 2014 collection. Stay tuned for more info. While there are some noticeable absences, there are also some newcomers to the London Fashion Week schedule, and they are Belstaff, Joseph, and Mother of Pearl, so we’re pretty excited to see what they bring. Mulberry cancels London Fashion Week AW14 catwalk show

Bad news this morning; following the departure of its creative director Emma Hill, Mulberry has cancelled its next London Fashion Week catwalk show. According to WWD, the British brand said it “has not finalised its creative director search and will therefore exceptionally not stage a catwalk show this February.” Although we wont be getting a catwalk show in February, Mulberry will “definitely be participating in London Fashion Week and details of this will be released in the near future.” One of our highlights of London Fashion Week is always heading to the Mulberry catwalk show at Claridge’s and playing “spot the furry friends” in the lobby, but we won’t be getting that privilege in February. Sad face! In the meantime, Emma Hill’s replacement is anyone’s guess, with Erdem Moralioglu, Roland Mouret, Mary Katrantzou and Sophie Hulme all being thrown into the replacement rumour equation. Who’s your money on?

Reflecting on London Fashion Week…(Spring/Summer 2014)

The hub of all excitable activity, and displaying a manner of dressing that even those residing across the Atlantic strongly envy (yes, those polished NYC queens), London is a melting pot of acceptance and crazy, annotated flower diagrams in the name of Christopher Kane. But given the shows are essentially work affairs, where buyers behind affluent retail names come to place hefty orders, and editors come to coo at what they’ll be instructing Testino to shoot in seven or so months’ time, was fashion week on point? Did the runway looks deliver and meet expectation? Here’s what we thought: Translatability Tom Ford’s show during London Fashion Week had us, for the first time, sitting up and thinking about how a shattered crystal dress arranged in a mosaic-like effect was ever going to appear on the red carpet. Or, would we see It mademoiselle Alexa Chung rocking a teardrop cut-out dress from Christopher Kane’s spring 2014 collection at some high profile shindig? Some of the clothes worked – like Emilio de la Morena’s relaxed-but-city-slick separates and even Topshop Unique’s impressive line-up of printed spaghetti strap dresses and curved, cropped shirts – when it came to mentally visualising them on ‘real’ people in the ‘real’ world, but the goth cyber chick at Mark Fast made it hard to maintain that focus. Out of touch? In a rather interesting piece rounding up the shows in London, Cathy Horyn made a very valuable point: “As I went around London, to places and streets filled with ordinary people, I had the sense, more than ever, that fashion here was taking place in vacuum. Do they care about Christopher Kane’s naïve drapes and twisted flower dresses? London Fashion Week SS14 Day 5 highlights

London Fashion Week may be over for another season, leaving us dreaming about next summer, but it’s onto Milan and Paris! So, to keep the London style spirit alive a little bit longer, here are our highlights from the final day of fashion fun: Thomas Tait Practicality is never lost on some in the fashion world, and CSM-trained designer Thomas Tait is one who never leaves behind is original vision. Although the colours on the runway for next season have served as palate cleansers, Tait’s angelic whites were too luminous to miss. Clean, fluid dresses, tank tops boxy jackets and were crossed with carefully positioned embellishments in the form of vividly coloured panels and wisps of feathers, but the originality of his hard working aesthetic, those any- weather-tackling, utilitarian jackets was not lost. Tait fans were surely not disappointed. Ong-Oaj Paraim Another one to watch from budding pool of emerging fashion talent this season, we loved Ong-Oaj Pairam’s debut offerings – inspired by Gertie, from Stephen Spielberg’s blockbuster, E.T. – at Fashion Scout. Vague imprints of yolk-centred flowers were sprayed across billowing maxi dresses, while the flowers came to life in 3D form on a patent white skirt. A patent-sleeved cropped jacket with metallic checker board body was paired with leather shorts in a foamy cappuccino hue, and hair was coiffed to the tune of tea dress swishing, fashion-loving, Fifties housewife. Cinched waists were high on the agenda, with plenty of belting and body contouring dresses to boots, and a broken down Chinese calligraphic-style print in red and blue, neatly ruled out on a sheer collared shirt and high-waisted shorts. London Fashion Week SS14 Day 4 highlights

Osman Taking a more summer appropriate (natch) approach for spring/summer 14, the vivid pinks and limes of last year were watered down to pretty pastels, with flashes of dainty embellishment. Skirts were sometimes gauzy, cut asymmetrically to produce a floaty effect that made the fabric appear like it slid away from the body. Voluminous coats, surprisingly, are a key piece for next season, given their not so climate appropriate use in summer (well, it is Britain after all), and a three-quarter sleeved candy pink number worn over black trousers won us over. Not so much a winner: the skirt-over-trousers look – it’s far too don’t-wanna-go-there Nineties for us! Erdem Always a show season biggie, Erdem’s tougher stance on the runway was welcomed with opened arms. After enticing us with zingy neons, expertly combined with fragile lace for spring/summer 2013, this time around, he took us on a monochrome adventure. Still working his famed ladylike wearability into this high impact collection, Mr. Moraliaglu gave us sheer skirts sat pretty atop couture-level sweatshirts; a come hither black lace gown was made more wearable over a crisp white shirt, and neat collar and pocket details brought a somewhat masculine edge to his work. Shoes remain major, however – a far cry from the kind of dainty strap sandal you’d wear with an Erdem number: think rebelliously chunky platform soles made interesting with splashes of bold print. Tom Ford High octane as always, Tom Ford’s show was, possibly, the hottest ticket of the fashion month schedule this side of the Atlantic, making the hearts of several editors beat faster than they do on deadline day. As always, the highlight of the day, nay, London Fashion Week as a whole, was the Mulberry show at the swanky Claridge’s hotel. We received a very sneaky preview of what to expect from the spring/summer 2014 collection via mood board (check it out here in case you missed it) so knew we were going to be in for a summery, floral treat. And the mood board certainly didn’t let us down! Emma Hill definitely made sure she went out with a bang wit her last collection at the helm of Mulberry. We even got a new, never-before-seen piece of arm candy too – the Kensal bag! This obviously won’t be the last you hear of that name, so watch this space! The Topshop Unique front row was probably the most star-studded of them all, with the likes of Kate Moss, Samantha Barks, Alexa Chung, Daisy Lowe and of course Miss Anna Wintour among the famous faces looking on adoringly at the new collection. The nineties were back with a vengeance if Topshop has anything to say about it, as are bare backs, loose-fitting tops and shorts, mirror-detailing (which was reflected – no pun intended – in the mirror invitations we received) and fun prints. Jourdan Dunn’s look above was definitely our highlight of the entire collection! Over at Kate Middleton fave Emilia Wickstead, block pastel colours were the obvious runaway theme in the collection; clean yet exaggerated cuts and silhouettes dominated. Another favourite of the Middleton family is Alice Temperley, who presented a show-stopping Temperley London spring/summer 2014 collection, which was reportedly inspired by a recent trip to Sicily. London Fashion Week SS14 Day 2 highlights

Less rain and even more excitement for Day 2 of London Fashion Week! Here are a few of our highlights from the spring/summer 2014 collections showcased: Zoe Jordan was worth getting out of bed and braving the rain for, as the designer presented a clean, chic, predominantly pastel collection with attitude. Sporty yet chic and feminine; the skater styles were a particular favourite, which just goes to show that you can do grunge the feminine and effortless way, too. Who needs catwalk shows when you have a cute, private little show space to do whatever you want with? Orla Kiely has once again exceeded all expectations with her spring/summer 2014 offering, showing an instantly loveable and wearable 70s safari themed collection. From the Moonrise Kingdom references to the soundtrack to the giraffe prints on the dresses – there was no mistaking the theme or inspiration of this collection. It was all about the “p”s over at Ashley Isham – Perspex, precision and PVC. Block colours are back, but with the added bonus of sparkle; and trust us – sparkle is always a bonus! Hair and make-up at Holly Fulton was inspired by the seventies – there’s something very Saved by the Bell about it – while the clothes themselves were reminiscent of an era of the past with a futuristic twist. Akin to some of the other collections this season, pleats were prominent, as were geometric prints and denim. The slight bondage theme was also apparent at Mark Fast, although it was bondage meets bandage meets grungy goth cyber chick all under one stylishly monochrome and neon umbrella. London Fashion Week SS14 Day 1 highlights

Despite the grey skies, multiple clouds and sporadic bursts of suede-boot-ruining-rain, London Fashion Week definitely kicked off with a bang. The spring/summer 2014 shows were eventful, action-packed and inventive… and we can’t wait for some of the trends to hit the high streets in months to come! Here are some highlights from a few of our favourite shows: One of the great things about LFW is the support it gives upcoming talent by giving it a platform to showcase itself – and the Ones to Watch show is one of the best ways to introduce new designers to the world. This season was the turn of Hannah Williams, Helen Lawrence and Renli Su; three very different but equally beautiful collections. Helen Lawrence presented soft, pastel hued pieces, while Hannah Williams went dramatic, theatrical and larger-than-life. Renli Su went for unstructured, minimal, casual and unassuming. If you’re after a girly, sugary-sweet (almost too sweet) collection, then look no further than Yeashin! Candy colours, porcelain doll aesthetics and fairy tale inspired pieces floating down the catwalk Bernard Chandran was another favourite – the intricateness, the colour, the texture, the wow factor! There was a definite rich and royal theme running throughout the collection; luxury done right! Shimmer, attention to detail and wet-look hair was what we took away from the Felder Felder show, while it was dramatic biker chic over at Todd Lynn. And we weren’t the only ones who seemed to enjoy the Ping He show, as front row-ers Laura Whitmore and Poppy Delevingne appeared to be loving it too. We welcome Manolo Blahnik to London Fashion Week!

We’d like to welcome Manolo Blahnik and his incredible collection of shoes to London, as it’s just been confirmed that the designer will be showing at London Fashion Week next month for the first time ever! If that isn’t a reason to party, we don’t know what is! “Everybody now makes a point of coming to London – which is very different to Milan and Paris. London is now so important to all these international buyers. London is the future,” the designer previously said. And he’s not wrong there! Manolo Blahnik will hold a presentation on Sunday September 15th (the location has yet to be confirmed but we will of course keep you posted as soon as we hear more) which runs from 10am and 4pm, so there are no excuses for not popping in to check the new collection out. We think Sunday is going to be one fash-tastic, fash-fuelled day as the likes of Mulberry, Matthew Williamson, Jonathan Saunders, L’Wren Scott and Mary Katrantzou will also be showcasing their spring/summer 2014 collections on that day. Louise Gray’s two-season break from London Fashion Week

One of our London Fashion Week highlights is attending the Louise Gray show, so imagine our disappointment when we found out the designer will be taking a break to focus on other projects! Sad faces around the office! “It has not been an easy decision to step away from my own label, but at the same time, against the backdrop of a tough economic climate, I didn’t want to jeopardise a business that I have worked so hard to build,” she said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to working on design and consultancy projects for major brands, as well as collaborating with my friends in London.” Louise Gray is only scheduled to be absent from the LFW catwalks for two seasons, so fingers crossed she sticks to her plan and returns next year! We’re going to miss her bold, quirky, girly designs but everyone needs some down time, we guess! [Telegraph]

London Fashion Week AW13: Highlights from Day 5

This is it guys – London Fashion Week is over for yet another season, and boy has it been eventful! We’ve barely had time to sit down and properly reflect on all the shenanigans of the last five days, but we have a feeling the autumn/winter 2013 offerings that were presented to us in the trendiest and most stylish London locations are going to stay in our minds for a long time. Let’s not get too nostalgic just yet though, we still have all the action from the fifth and final day to discuss, with collections from the likes of Roksanda Ilincic, Ashish, Lulu Liu and Aminaka Wilmont all making their way down the catwalks. Here are some of our highlights from Day 5: Ashish We knew Ashish had something special lined up when the yellow high-vis jacket came out onto the runway first, and we weren’t wrong. There was a definite construction worker theme going on with the dungarees and patchwork/lumberjack-inspired pieces but that doesn’t mean there was a shortage of glamour. Au contraire, we were very satisfied with the amount of sparkles in the collection, and the slogan tee in particular was a particular fave. What can we say, we like clothing with a little bit of attitude! Aminaka Wilmont The jet black invite – and the fact that the pair are quite keen on keeping colour palettes sinister and minimal – gave us a clue about what to expect and we were more or less spot on. The collection was fierce and fabulous, and there was tons of attitude to boot. Dramatic eye make-up, disheveled “don’t give a ****” hair and dangerous leather in abundance. London Fashion Week Day 4 highlights continued: Fashion Scout shows

Fashion Scout shows are always an exciting reminder in our Fashion Week diaries. Continuing the fashionable activities on day four of London Fashion Week, we teetered in heels down to Freemason’s Hall in Great Queen Street to check out talent from the East making waves in the West. Eugene Lin Singapore-born, Central Saint Martins alumnus, Eugene Lin, sent out the very urban Trojan princess he had envisaged when designing the autumn/winter 2013-14 ‘Cupide de Locke’ collection. Interpreting the contrasts between ‘involuntary violence and fragility of love’ (the show rather aptly opened to a modern reworking of Nancy Sinatra’s Bang Bang), Lin chose a black and sand palette to update the armour-esque trench coat with embellished capes, as models sported warrior chic-inspired plaits on the crowns of their heads. Shattered mirror prints on dresses depicted the power of Cupid’s arrow, whilst the toughness of high neck collars and cuffs and strong, focal eye makeup reminded us of a woman not to be crossed. Heowhan Simulation Breathtaking was the only way to describe this technical genius’s work. Having previously won the Vauxhall Fashion Scout Merit Award, Korean-born Hwan Heo is two seasons into a ten-year season vision, The Decade Project, to create experimental artwork fashion that lends itself to stories of social and political unrest. For autumn/winter 2013-14, Heo looked to France during the protests of 1968; when political rebellion was high on the nation’s agenda. Riotous prints interspersed with patch detail inserts on oversize jackets and worn over long-line, contrasting jackets; loose silk blouses, multi zip-detail bikers and knuckle-slimming sleeves made this yet another desirably wearable collection. London Fashion Week AW13: Highlights from Day 4

It;s nearing the end of yet another eventful and outstanding season at London Fashion Week, and we couldn’t be more excited about the offerings for next season! But as the saying goes, the best is usually saved till last, and so it was onto day 4 of the fash week schedule. Big shot fashion names were on the schedule for day 4, including Tom Ford (gush!), Erdem and Christopher Kane, and we couldn’t be more pleased with what these geniuses put before our eyes for next season! From Burberry to Peter Pilotto, packed with the most exciting names in fashion and the most anticipated shows in the Fashion Month calendar, here are all the highlights you need from day 4 of London Fashion Week: Burberry With Tom Odell serenading show attendees at the catwalk entrance, this show was only set to be on thing: the greatest. Every season, Burberry is the most buzzed about show, attracting a stellar frow (Rita Ora, Tinine Tempah and Kate Beckinsale were all in attendance). And for autumn/winter 2013-14, the fashion crowd was left just a positively dumbstruck. Last season’s fizzy metallics turned glossy and grown up this season, as honeyed caramel trench coats and translucent pencil skirts mixed with skilfully subdued leopard print; a cute heart print on a collared shirt and dress broke the rules, whilst the emphasis on luxe animal prints accented with hard details made this collection a whole lot of fun. Christopher Kane Colour-pop belted buckles; fur-wrapped shoulders and a heavy dose of Kane’s charm made for an eye-pleasing collection. For autumn/winter 2013-14, Christopher Kane – with his PPR gold star badge pinned proudly to his chest – brought us camo print in its most desirable form, and ensured pleated minis and centre-slit skirts tugged at our heart strings. London Fashion Week AW13: Highlights from Day 3

With Fashion Month speeding on, it was onto day three of the stylish festivities. Packed with major shows, including Temperley London, Mulberry and Jonathan Saunders, the fash pack were out in full force to absorb and delight in everything next season has to offer. Alongside spotting the fashions for next season, our front row radar was in overdrive, too! Alexa Chung looked resplendent sat front row at Mulberry (natch), joined by frow partner Lana Del Rey; Olivia Palermo at Temperley sporting a gorgeous pink clutch; Pixie Geldof looked print-tastic at Jonathan Saunders and, of course, the obligatory Wintour spot at Matthew Williamson left us in a state of awe-induced hyper ventilation (it happens every time)! So, here are all the highlights from day three of London Fashion Week: Mulberry In fashion time, it was relatively decent start to the day with an 11am Mulberry show at Claridges, and we have to say, we needed the lie in! Woodland wonderland-meets the Nineties was big at Mulberry, as skater skirts over cropped trousers made an appearance, along with oversized tweed plaids on statement en outerwear in a whimsical woodland setting, complete with Mulberry fruits and a jaw-dopping butterfly and wild flower installation that adorned the entrance to Claridges. Dark hues of deep emerald, wine tones and black reigned supreme, and Mulberry;s signature botanical-inspired prints were splashed across form-fitting dresses. Outerwear was the highlight for us; we could happily take home every coat we saw! London Fashion Week AW13: Highlights from Day 2

Despite being a little worse for wear, we were up bright and early for the second day of London Fashion Week – we weren’t going to miss the 9am DAKS show for the world! And boy are we glad we got out of bed for it! Day 2 was pretty packed, with autumn/winter 2013 collections from the likes of Julien Macdonald, House of Holland, Carlotta Actis Barone, Issa, and the highly anticipated Rihanna for River Island (among others) all making their debut. It was another successful day for celeb-spotting too, with the likes of Pixie Lott and all five members of The Saturdays showing their support on the Julien Macdonald front row, but the prize for most star-studded FROW definitely went to the one and only Bajan pop princess known as Rihanna. Even Cara Delevingne – who is usually on the catwalk herself – had the night off and enjoyed the show from her seat. Let’s crack on with the highlights, shall we? DAKS A strong and contemporary collection comprised of loose, layered, relaxed and tailored pieces. Lots of sleeveless numbers for all you sleeve-phobics, and a few leather pieces to grunge it up. Two pieces which stole the show for us were the tailored black jumpsuit, and the gold cropped vest top. Simply stunning. Carlotta Actis Barone One of our most anticipated shows of the day – mainly because we got an epic performance from some ballet dancers during the show last season so we were expecting great things. There were no musical interludes this time around, but that didn’t mean we didn’t enjoy the show. And so it begins! London Fashion Week is upon us for yet another season, and if the offerings on the New York Fashion Week autumn/winter 2013 catwalk were anything to go by, it looks like we’re going to be in for one heck of a treat these next five days. Bring it on, we say! London Fashion Week kicked off bright and early at Somerset House with Zoe Jordan’s latest collection sashaying down the runway , and finished off nicely with a very late-starting (and extremely over-subscribed) PPQ. In terms of celeb-spotting, the reality TV stars were out in force, with the likes of Lydia Bright and Millie Mackintosh in attendance, as well as Sophie Ellis Bextor, Jo Wood, Kate Nash, Jodie Kidd, Dionne Bromfield, Caroline Flack and more. Zoe Jordan The colour palette was broken into two categories: monochrome and bright summery shades of pink and orange. Bora Aksu Akin to Zoe Jordan’s outing, the collection was split in half in terms of colour. Part of it was soft and predominantly white, while the end served a burst of colour by way of some stunning purple and pink shades. Rihanna will debut her River Island collection at London Fashion Week next month!

Rihanna is coming to the Capital to launch her River Island collection during an epic show at London Fashion Week… and as you can imagine, we practically squealed when the press release landed in our inbox! “Launching at London Fashion Week is a dream come true for me,” Rihanna said. “I have wanted to design my own collection for a long time and to present my collection for River Island alongside all of the other great design talent at LFW is a real privilege. I can’t wait to see the reaction from my fans and the fashion press!” Riri is expected to showcase her highly-anticipated collection on February 16th to tease her fans and fashionistas alike before the collection officially launches on March 5th. Expect to see some of the biggest models of the moment strutting down the catwalk showing off the collection, including campaign star Jourdan Dunn, BFF Cara Delevingne and more. Tom Ford to host full-scale fashion show this London Fashion Week

Looks like Tom Ford will be pulling out all the stops for his upcoming autumn/winter 2013 collection debut at London Fashion Week. He’s definitely upping the ante this season as the Texas-born designer, who usually tends to showcase his work in small and intimate surroundings with only a few lucky people in attendance, has spoken of his desire to invite between 500 and 1000 people to the show. Blimey! “This is going to be for 500 to 1,000 people. Photographers, bloggers – a regular, real show,” he said. “I want to show in London because I now have 100 stores worldwide. The company has jumped and I can no longer service the stores by not showing. So I have to love it and embrace it. “I hope it works here, because my dream goal is to raise my children here,” he said about London. ” I’m very old fashioned, When I was little, I was brought up to say, ‘Hello, Mr Ford’, ‘Hello Mrs so-and-so’, ‘Sir and ma’am’. I want that for my children… I’m only here 180 days of the year, but I like the humour, the formality, the manners, the irreverence in England.” We literally cannot contain our excitement… especially at that “bloggers” comment. London Fashion week displays a winning catalogue with sport inspiration

2012 has been a great year for sport, with Wimbledon following the Euros and both the Olympics and the Paralympics dominating all aspects of life in the UK. Politicians are now talking about the Olympic legacy of years to come, and hoping that more Brits will be spurred into enjoying sport by watching their heroes winning medals, but the influence of this summer’s sporting fun can already be seen on the catwalk. At London Fashion Week sporty details, luxe material and sharp sporty lines could be seen all over the catwalks, in the collections of designers from Preen to David Koma. At Preen clean lines and block colours could be seen throughout the collection, and many of the colour combinations used were reminiscent of the shades of country flags. Sharp cuts and luxe materials added to the sporty chic look. Some of the heaviest sports referencing could be seen in the David Koma collection, which was inspired by tennis and included pleated mini dresses in oranges, blues and crisp whites. Explaining the thought process behind the collection Koma said that players including Lea Pericoli, Suzanne Lenglen and Gussie Moran had been influential on his designs. In what could be seen as a cheeky reference to the accidental flashes which female players sometimes give when in the full swing of play, on skirt even featured a nude panel on the back, giving the impression she was showing her bum. In her Spring 2013 collection Zoe Jordan showed items which featured contrasts between bright block colours and crisp white, as well as sharp cuts and clean lines. London Fashion Week SS13: Highlights from all five days!

So we’ve officially waved goodbye to yet another season of London Fashion Week and we’re left with mixed emotions. We are partly welling up at the thought of leaving Somerset House and the surrounding fashionable areas for another season, while the other part of us is looking forward to kicking the heels off and slipping back into those trusty and far more comfortable flats. Somerset House cobbles that make it impossible to run to shows – we will not miss you! We won’t be forgetting the spring/summer 2013 season at London Fashion Week anytime soon though… here are our thoughts on the whole experience: Day 1 was our busiest, as not only were we tent-hopping in Somerset House and dashing to the Vauxhall Fashion Scout to check out the emerging designer talent too, but we also headed backstage to quite a few shows. We were presented with elegant, wearable and glamorous collections courtesy of Sass and Bide, Bora Aksu and Corrie Nielsen, as well as more dramatic looks thanks to Fyodor Golan and Carlotta Actis Barone. We loved the ballet dancing at Carlotta too – we might petition for more shows to have dance routines… what say you? Day 2 was a bit of a mix as we got to see some rising talent along with the big guns. The forties were back thanks to Tahir Sultan, which is definitely a trend we’re more than happy to get on board with. Sequins and fairy-tale inspired looks appear to be one of the big, recurring trends of the spring/summer 2013 season, which is exactly what Jeffrey Michael reiterated with his “from the water” collection. London Fashion Week SS13: Day 5

Yep, it’s the final day of London Fashion Week (sniff), and as the old saying goes, some of the best shows were saved til last… especially when referring to the Mulberry show that kicked off at 10am this morning! Those of you following us on Twitter will have already seen a few cheeky pictures that we took of the collection, the celebs, the gnomes (yes, there were gnomes), the complimentary rainbow cakes and even an adorable Mulberry-clad dog we met in the queue called Berry! However, now it’s time to get up close and a little more personal with the collection, as we’ve selected a few of our stand-out looks for you to gaze at below. We also attended the Ashish show this afternoon, which we thought was a perfect ending to a wonderful spring/summer 2013 season in London. Who: Mulberry What: Rainbows, watercolours – an “English summer” at its best. There was a bit of a mix on the Mulberry catwalk this season; we had a feeling we were going to get a colourful collection from the paint set invite, but it was a tasteful, refreshing bit of colour as opposed to something more wild and overbearing like in some of the collections we’ve seen this LFW. (That’s not to say we didn’t like them, au contraire we love a good burst of colour, but we love Emma Hill’s balance.) There was an abundance of leather in the collection, as well as relaxed shapes and silhouettes – perfect for summer! Twitter was blowing up today, and that could only mean one thing: the Burberry show! There were celebrities left right and centre who attended to watch Christopher Bailey present his spring/summer 2013 offering at Kensington Gardens, and among those sitting pretty on the front row were Dita von Teese (star struck!) Olympic gold medalist Victoria Pendleton, Andy Murray, Tali Lennox, Anna Wintour, Laura Bailey and even the loveable Harry Styles among many others. Below is our recap of the Burberry Prorsum show, and some highlights from some of the other shows we attended on the fourth day of London Fashion Week. Enjoy! Who: Burberry Prorsum What: Colour crazy! A bold collection with a rich and extensive colour palette, with lots of fabric experimenting too! Sexy, sultry and sassy definitely sprang to mind when we first clapped eyes on the collection, and according to reports, that’s exactly what the main man himself said he was going for. Mission accomplished, Sir! Highlight: Seeing the extent of the brightness of the collection when the models paraded down the runway during the finale. We thought the music was pretty special too! To summarise: An opulent, colourful, diverse collection which is set to have celebs – and us ordinary folk – foaming at the mouth. Who: Antonio Berardi What: Geometric, bold, intricate, structured, defined silhouettes; this year’s Antonio Berardi girl definitely has the attitude and isn’t afraid to show it! As Sunday is a day of rest, we decided to take a well deserved break from all the London Fashion Week madness of the past couple of days and recharge our biological and technological batteries. However, that’s not to say that we didn’t have time to stop by a few shows – fashion is of course an all-consuming part of our lives – as we wouldn’t have missed the Temperley London or Paul Smith shows for the world. As we predicted, Temperley London and Paul Smith were spectacular, and both designers respectively presented strong, versatile, memorable and very wearable collections. We gave you a few sneak peeks on Twitter, but now it’s time to take a closer look at some of our highlights: Who: Temperley London What: The show invite promised a “return to elegance” and boy was it right! The spring/summer 2013 collection was worlds away from Alice Temperley’s dark and heavy autumn/winter 2012 offering, as we were treated to lots of dresses and separates in fun, summery shades of pale blue, white a light grey. We thought it was a stunning collection; we were in awe from start to finish! And from where we were sitting, we think Poppy Delevingne, Anna Friel and Pixie Lott thought so too. Highlight: The view on the VIP balcony was incredible, and we loved spying all the action on and off the catwalk. Celeb-spotting made easy! As far as the pieces were concerned, there were more than a few lace numbers that had us foaming at the mouth, and the hats were a delightful little touch! London Fashion Week SS13 – Highlights from Day 2

Fashion, much like the city it’s currently creating a next season buzz in, never sleeps, and so it was on to day 2 of London Fashion Week. It was a super-busy day for us, zapping around what felt like the whole of London (in heels, too!), but it was the summer inspo for next season that kept us going. Oh, and tons of caffeine! Here are the show highlights from day 2 of London Fashion Week… Who:Tahir Sultan What: Marrying glamour with a everyday aesthetic, for SS’13, designer Tahir Sultan embellished beautifully fluid suits with studs, as to form a spine down the wearers back. Soft knits embellished with chain detailing; zingy pink and lime particularly caught our eye, paired with soft grey and charcoal hued structured blazers. Much emphasis was given to dressing below the waist, with colour-pop harem pants, Forties-inspired wide-leg trouser, and a show-stopping fringed skirt, paired with a blazer and emerald green heels, added after-hours drama to daytime dressing. Highlight: A black, low-tiered evening gown with feather and beaded fringing detail. To summarise: A collection “dedicated to the secret few who know that nothing is more fashionable than just being yourself” certainly justified the underlying ease and freedom that shone through the glamorous silhouettes. Who: Jeffrey Michael What: The collection titled “From the Water” looked to “a woman emerging from the waves and seafoam at midnight” took a fun-injected approach to the aquatic theme evident in the spring/summer 2012 collections. A colour palette of bubblegum pink, purple and ocean blue came with 3D fish-gill like detailing on dress corsets. London Fashion Week SS13: Day 1

Once we’ve seen all the covers for the all-important September issues, the next thing on our calendar to get excited about is of course Fashion Month. It all began rather beautifully thanks to the wonderful designer collections showcased at New York Fashion Week – and now it’s good old Blighty’s turn to have a go. If you follow us on Twitter (if not, why not?!) then you’ll have a small inkling as to what we got up to today, the first day of London Fashion Week, as we’ve been keeping you informed and updated throughout the day with pictures on the catwalk – and a few cheeky ones behind the scenes too! Enough blabbing! Here’s a roundup of some of our stand-out shows. Did they stand out for the right reasons or the wrong ones? Read on to find out! Who:Antoni and Alison What: A celebration of the brand’s 25 years! However, the duo were keen to avoid “looking back” and reminiscing, and instead opted to move forward, hence their very aptly entitled show name, “New Work.” Highlight: The band! As it was the first show of LFW, the band provided a lovely alternative (or in our case, accompaniment) to caffeine as it really perked us up. To summarise: A fab collection to kick off LFW with, as well as to celebrate a milestone as a brand! [Images] Who: Fyodor Golan What: An exploration of the literary realm, with the boo Blue Tattoo providing serious inspiration. Don’t expect to see Rachel Zoe at London Fashion Week (or Selfridges)

Just last week we heard through the grapevine that all was not well in Rachel Zoe land after her TV show faced being axed and her couture clothing label was rumoured to be doing badly too… but now there appears to be even more bad news for the famous celeb-stylist-turned-designer. As well as Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales and Nordstrom reportedly losing interest in her line due to poor sales, it’s also been announced that her collection will no longer be stocked in Selfridges either. And as a result of this, she therefore won’t be attending the Burberry show at London Fashion Week. Yikes! “Her London launch didn’t go as well as she’d hoped,” a source reportedly told The Daily Mail. “Selfridges dropped her clothing line because it was very expensive. They still have her shoe collection but the clothing line wasn’t as successful as hoped.” Unfair? Or is Rachel Zoe’s clothing line far too expensive for this recession we appear to still be in? Minnie Mouse is coming to London Fashion Week!

The very stylish Minnie Mouse is all over London Fashion Week this coming season! A host of top designers including Giles Deacon, Richard Nicoll, Lulu Guinness, Katie Hillier, Michael van der Ham and Meadham Kirchoff among others, will be creating their own one-of-a-kind piece of clothing inspired by the world’s most famous female mouse and showcasing them at LFW! How good is that?! “Minnie Mouse and her unique style continue to inspire fans across the world,” said Marc Low, a spokesperson for the Walt Disney Company. “We’re thrilled to collaborate with such visionaries to create these one-off designs. Surpassing trends, Minnie Mouse’s iconic silhouette, signature bows and polka dots always remain in style, which is why she is as relevant today as the day she first appeared on the fashion scene. “London Fashion Week is the perfect stage for Disney, one of the world’s largest apparel brands, to put a spotlight on Minnie Mouse.” Agreed! Madonna’s younger brother will show at London Fashion Week

Original Queen of pop Madonna isn’t the only member of the Ciccone family with a fashion line! Her younger brother Christopher Ciccone will be unveiling his debut footwear range, rather aptly entitled ‘The Ciccone Collection’, during London Fashion Week this season. Well, he would be a fool not to make the most of the family name! The 51-year-old author, artist, photographer and dancer (to name just a few of his previous jobs!) was reportedly approached by Slovakian brand Novesta over a year ago to make his foray into shoe design. We don’t know much about the shoes themselves apart from that they will be “fashionable yet functionable footwear” for women, men and children. He was reportedly inspired by Hollywood and Italian film stars, and we can expect to see the shoes have names such as Eva, Brigitte and Sofia. No prizes for guessing which stars provided the inspiration for those names! Is this a little bit strange or are you secretly looking forward to his debut? [Telegraph]
