Sarah Jessica Parker Is Giving Us Major Carrie Bradshaw Fever

Oh how we miss Sex and the City! The jokes, the gals, the men and of course the fashion. Nothing compares. And we suspect Sarah Jessica Parker misses it just as much as we do. Wearing an outfit too the ACE awards that was 100% reminiscent of our favourite New York writer a.k.a Carrie Bradshaw’s ensembles on the hit show, SJP looked fab in a romantic white ruffled off-the-shoulder dress with metallic accents that was brought t life with a cute pair of bright bright blue peep-toes with a bow detail. We’re filled with nostalgia. Thoughts? Are you loving her look? [Image]

Sarah Jessica Parker gets in trouble for that photoshoot outside ‘Carrie’s’ apartment…

We nearly wet ourselves with excitement when Sarah Jessica Parker shared a pic of a pair shoes outside Carrie Bradshaw’s New York apartment, as we thought it was another hint that a Sex and the City 3 movie was happening. Although SJP took actually the pic to promote the latest collection of her shoe line (sneaky!) as part of an ‘unauthorised’ photoshoot, we will forgive her as the collection looks better – and more colourful – than ever. The actual residents of 66 Perry Street, however, don’t feel the same way… “The owners are up in arms as they deal with relentless tourists, and SJP has ignored their requests for an explanation on how she could endorse the shoot, even though ‘no trespassing’ signs are posted,” a source reportedly told Page Six. “SJP used their house during the years of filming, and now won’t acknowledge that she and her company used the steps and facade, this time without permission, to promote her shoe line.” Yikes! We would never complain if SJP wanted to take pics outside our doorstep… [Grazia]

Sarah Jessica Parker works the Burberry check print poncho in New York

We’ve seen some of the most stylish famous faces – from Olivia Palermo to Cara Delevingne to Rosie Huntington Whiteley, among others – step out in Burberry’s check print monogrammed poncho… but we think we’ve found someone who has outdone them all and put them all to shame… And that someone is the original fashionista, the woman who gave life to Carrie Bradshaw and made us fall in love with fashion – Miss Sarah Jessica Parker! SJP nailed that “just going about my daily business in the Big Apple” look, as she teamed her poncho with some gloriously skinny jeans, sleek and gorgeously tousled golden locks, and A-list essential black shades. If you’re going to wear a poncho this autumn/winters season, then this is the way to do it. From pink tutus to Manolo Blahniks, Sarah Jessica Parker has made us covet so many things – and this Burberry poncho has definitely been added to the list. Burberry personalised ponchos will be available in store and online from November! [Image c/o Burberry]

We love Sarah Jessica Parker’s personal shoe names for her new collection!

Just when you thought Sarah Jessica Parker’s debut shoe collection for Nordstrom was one of the best celebrity footwear lines out there, the actress has only gone and outdone herself with the second installment. SJP’s new collection is just as dreamy as the debut range she has spent the past few months promoting – and we think the names she has given each pair of shoes is one of the main reasons why. The ‘Pat’ is a fabulous statement boot which was named after the woman who made Sex and the City as fashionable as it was – the legendary costume designer Patricia Field. “[Patricia] has been an enormous influence on me and millions of others,” Sarah gushed. “Without her contributions, Carrie Bradshaw would have been incomplete.” What a lovely thing to say – and we kind of agree too! We’d like to think that naming a gorgeous boot after her is Sarah Jessica Parker’s way of saying thank you. The ‘Serge’ boot is another highlight from the new collection, and not just because it was named after SJP’s genius hair stylist Serge Normant. The pumps are pretty desirable too – the ‘Rachel’ pump was named after her sister – aww – while the ‘Blythe’ pump was named after actress Blythe Danner. We can’t wait to see what else Sarah Jessica Parker has up her sleeve for this epic collection. Do you think naming her shoes after people she knows and admires is a nice personal touch? Sarah Jessica Parker is Worst Dressed of the Week in Dolce & Gabbana

Did we ever imagine Sarah Jessica Parker would encounter a post-SATC wardrobe malfunction? Not really, given she’s besties with Anna Wintour, and has a finger in every fashion pie imaginable. So, when she treated us to TWO faux pas in the space of a few days, we felt a little, well, bemused. Stirring up the fashion rules in Dolce & Gabbana on both occasions, SJP seriously missed the mark with some pretty unusual layering tricks, and a rather odd approach to hosiery. Disaster 1: struck when she attended the launch presentation of her SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker shoe collection at Nordstrom in L.A. Wearing an ivory Dolce & Gabbana dress over a black top and tights; the outfit was a pretty odd choice for sunny Cali. Finished off with green pumps and a half-up ponytail, we’re not quite sure where Sarah was headed with this one. Disaster 2: played out at the Nordstrom Aventura mall in Florida, where once again on promotional duty, Sarah put together an eye-catching-for-all-the-wrong-reasons ensemble. And, boy did she leave us confused! Layering a red lace Dolce dress over a long-sleeved shirt and finishing off with footless tights and Carrie T-bar pumps from her own collection, this look was dressed-in-the-dark personified. Two bewildering looks from a lady who’s usually overspilling with glam is too much for our style-seeking hearts to bear. Here’s hoping this doesn’t happen again – at least not to the lady with the dream wardrobe! [Images: Left; Right]

Confused by Sarah Jessica Parker’s layered look

We’re used to raving about Sarah Jessica Parker‘s unrivalled sartorial style, so her latest outfit of choice was a bit bewildering for us. SJP was in Florida at the weekend to launch her highly anticipated shoe collection at the Nordstrom Aventura Mall, and it’s safe to say that her shoes – the Carrie T bar pumps from her own line – were the highlights of her outfit. Although she wore a very on-trend red lace Dolce and Gabbana dress, we think Sarah’s look fell flat with the addition of the white blouse underneath and the footless tights. We don’t think the shoes stood out as much as they could have done, and we reckon the chic and intricate detailing of the Dolce and Gabbana dress was lost in a sea of layering. Sarah Jessica Parker’s sleek and shiny hair and flawless make-up made up for the rest of the confusing look though; where do you stand on this SJP look? Would Carrie Bradshaw approve? [Image]

Sarah Jessica Parker in Louis Vuitton for Harper’s Bazaar UK April

Yep, the first of the April fashion glossy covers are landing, and we’re delighted to welcome Sarah Jessica Parker onto the Harper’s Bazaar UK April issue, especially as she’s looking more radiant than ever in Louis Vuitton! We love her accompanying interview too, especially the part about her – Sarah Jessica Parker, the former Carrie Bradshaw – not really having as many shoes and clothes as we expect her to. Although her suede Manolo Blahnik black pumps from the Sex and the City wardrobe are her all-time faves… “I used to wear them 18 hours a day for the show and loved it,” she said about her infamous Manolos. “I still have all those shoes – anything I’ve ever worn in any movie or television show in my life is archived – but I really don’t shop that much. “Also, I have a small closet. It’s a mess! It looks fine to the naked eye, but things are shoved in every corner. Friends come round and say, “But I have more clothes than you.”’ Hmm, we’re not sure if we believe that! We can’t wait to read the rest of her interview and gaze at all the stunning high fashion pieces she is rocking.

Sarah Jessica Parker is NOT taking Anna Wintour’s job!

She may have briefly played the role of a Vogue online editor in Glee, she may be best buds with Anna Wintour, and she may have starred in one of the most fashionable shows of all time, but Sarah Jessica Parker is NOT replacing Anna Wintour when she retires as Editor-in-Chief of Vogue. At least, that’s what some “insiders” are telling the Daily Mail… “It would be a fun thing for her, but she already has so much on her plate it’s not an option and she actually has never considered it before,” the insider reportedly said. “Anna and Sarah Jessica have been friends for a long time and the idea of Sarah Jessica taking Anna’s position at Vogue has never been discussed,” another rep from Vogue apparently said. The rumours surfaced earlier this week on Radar, but we guess we’ll just have to wait patiently for more info. Is it too early to be thinking about a replacement for Anna Wintour? Who do you think the ideal Editor-in-Chief of American Vogue should be? [Daily Mail]

Our top picks from Sarah Jessica Parker’s shoe collection

It’s here! Finally every single piece from Sarah Jessica Parker’s debut shoe collection has been unveiled, and it looks like we are going to have a very hard time choosing which styles to snap up when they go on sale next month. Either that, or February is going to be a very expensive month indeed… The collection is comprised of a variety of different styled shoes, from T-bars to silettos to wedges to foot-friendly flip-flops and more – all of which have been inspired by her life in some shape or form. “I’ve taken inspiration from things in my life such as the grosgrain ribbons I tied in my hair as a girl, to the flower accents from the Sex and the City wardrobe, to references to classic styles from the late Seventies and early Eighties,” Sarah Jessica Parker said. “I’m a firm believer in quality and timelessness and have created this collection with the hopes that women will love wearing it for years to come.” Ah, a girl after our own hearts! The collection will be available at Nordstrom stores and online on February 28th. Take a look at our five favourite shoes from the collection below and let us know what you think! [Vogue]

First look at Sarah Jessica Parker’s SJP shoe collection!

If you’re feeling gloomy on the first Monday back to work after the Christmas holidays, then we have something that will cheer you up: a sneak preview at Sarah Jessica Parker’s upcoming shoe and bag collection! Yep, we thought that would perk you up! We present you with, the ‘Diana’ – a black, leather, patent Mary Jane single sole stiletto which will retail for £240. Looks pretty, doesn’t it? “I really wanted to bring back the single sole,” Sarah said of the Diana. “I wanted to go back in time and be the 11-year-old that was looking in the window at Charles Jourdan and Maud Frizon and recall those great, gorgeous colours and the way people made shoes without thinking about anyone else, just doing what excites them.” Exciting is definitely one of the words we had in mind. And can we discuss how reminiscent it is to the Manolo Blahnik Mary Jane shoes Carrie Bradshaw found in the Vogue cupboard in Sex and the City? Coincidence? We’ll let you be the judge! If you’re not keen on the black though then don’t despair, as the shoes come in a variety of colours and materials. I.e. there’s lots for you to drool over choose from! The full collection lands at Nordstrom in February so not long to wait. What do you think of the first look from the SJP collection? [Grazia]

Sarah Jessica Parker wows on Harper’s Bazaar US September issue

She was one of the best dressed ladies at this year’s prestigious Met Gala, and she also played one of the most stylish ladies in one of our favourite TV shows of all time, so we think Sarah Jessica Parker has more than earned her place as a September cover girl. SJP been photographed by Terry Richardson for Harper’s Bazaar’s September 2013 issue – and look how happy she seems about it! Sarah looks the spit of her Sex and the City alter ego Carrie Bradshaw in the editorial pictures, what with all the stunning high fashion pieces she is rocking like a pro. Her interview is not to be missed either; here’s what she had to say about her 16-year marriage to Matthew Broderick: “Matthew and I come from a different time and place. When we were young people, all we ever wanted was to be good working actors,” she said. “We didn’t think of fame or money because, honestly, money was never part of the dream. It was to work in theater, to be around those people whose work I was in total awe of. I never saw the trappings; nobody talked about being a celebrity.” “So when our marriage came up in conversation, it wouldn’t occur to us that we were obligated to respond to allegations or gossip. You have to be a bit circumspect, but you also have to take up a position, and you have to stick to it.” Perhaps that’s why they have one of the longest and most successful marriages Hollywood has ever seen! You can read more of Sarah Jessica Parker’s interview in the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar US, out August 20th.

Sarah Jessica Parker launching SJP shoe collection

Sarah Jessica Parker will be making alter ego Carrie Bradshaw green with envy, as it’s being reported that she will be designing a shoe collection entitled SJP. Short, simple, and to the point! This is ruddy fantastic news, but what took her so long, eh? SJP will be collaborating with George Malkemus, the CEO of Manolo Blahnik, and the collection will feature flats and heels ranging from £130 to £190, and handbags around the £450 mark. Not too steep – we like it! “In a silly way, I think it’s what people have expected of me most because of Carrie Bradshaw,” Sarah said. “We’re putting new colours together that people don’t typically do, just beautiful combinations that you wish existed in your closet. “And in terms of bags, thinking about that period of the Seventies into the Eighties, what those women were carrying, taking away the bells and the whistles and hardware and really making it about the bag.” We can’t wait to see what she has up her sleeve. The collection will be available exclusively at Nordstrom from next year. Excited? [E! Online]

Sarah Jessica Parker “shocked to experience an old-fashioned attitude about women and business” at fashion job

Sarah Jessica Parker, a huge presence in the fashion world, has spoken out about sexism in the fashion industry while working with an unnamed company. Although she has kept a dignified silence as far as the company name is concerned, fingers are pointing to Halston Heritage, where she was appointed Chief Creative Officer in 2010 before leaving in 2011. “I was brought in to help run a fashion company for about a year (although I don’t want to name names),” she began. “I was shocked to experience an old-fashioned attitude about women and business: women had titles but were treated as figureheads. So it wasn’t one negotiation, but an ongoing negotiation to make it clear that my voice was just as important, and that if they wanted me to be an active participant, it had to be an open conversation. “I called my lawyer and agent on occasion. But I’m not a little girl; I can’t call Mummy and Daddy all the time. If I take on a responsibility, I want to handle it with the authority given to me.” “I would’ve been stronger. At first you say, ‘This must be some kind of dysfunctional workplace I can whip into shape.’ But cultures are very hard to undo. I probably would’ve said, ‘This is what I’ve witnessed and this is what I know we need to fix. If it can’t be fixed, we should all shake hands and go our separate ways.’” And go their separate ways they did. We can’t help but feel surprised that SJP was treated like this… do you think sexism is prevalent in the fashion industry? What about in your work place? Let us know your thoughts! [Express]

Sarah Jessica Parker looking lovely and lady-like in lavender

Is this one of Sarah Jessica Parker’s most stylish weeks of the year so far? After blowing us away with her Giles Deacon dress and Philip Treacy Mohawk headpiece at the Met Gala on Monday evening, and rocking up to last night’s Tate Americas Foundation Artists Dinner wearing the above number, we think it may very well be! SJP may have gone for punky and edgy on Monday night (it was the theme after all) but she did a whole 180 by opting for something soft, pure and ultra feminine for last night’s dinner instead. There’s always a danger of over and even under accessorising when it comes to full-length dresses with such a prominent print, but the former Sex and the City star got the balance juuust right! The matching bangles added a lovely touch of symmetry to the look, and the rings on her fingers and dazzling earring provided all the bling that was necessary. We know SJP doesn’t see herself as a fashion/style icon, but we can’t say we agree with her…

Sarah Jessica Parker on how “cheap shoes” ruined her feet… gulp!

We loved a good bargain, especially when that bargain comes in the form of a delicious pair of heels, but we might have to think twice in future thanks to some wise words from Sarah Jessica Parker. “For ten or so years, I literally ran in heels,” SJP told Net-a-Porter’s new mag, The Edit. “I worked 18-hour days and never took them off. I wore beautiful shoes, some better made than others, and never complained.” “But then I did I Don’t Know How She Does It, and I was very thoughtful about my whole wardrobe and said, you know, Kate Reddy could not afford really good footwear. So I got lower priced shoes and the bottoms weren’t leather, they were plastic, so I slipped a couple times, twisted my ankle. “I went to a foot doctor and he said, ‘Your foot does things it shouldn’t be able to do. That bone there… You’ve created that bone. It doesn’t belong there.’” Yikes! Well, there you go ladies – we’ve officially found a valid and logical excuse to splurge on designer shoes (like the ones in the pic – yum!) as opposed to cheaper knock-offs. Thank you SJP! Sarah Jessica Parker doesn’t think she’s a fashion icon…

Despite appearing in one of the biggest style-focused shows on American television and being BFFs with some of the hottest designers in the world, Sarah Jessica Parker doesn’t regard herself as a fashion icon. We, however, think that both she and alter ego Carrie Bradshaw are more than worthy of the “fashion icon” status that they’re associated with, although SJP isn’t convinced… “It’s not an identity that I connect to,” she told People. “I’m grateful if anyone says anything kind, and if they say something less kind, I take that as a part of anyone talking about you at all. It’s not how I think of myself and think it’s probably the healthier approach.” That’s not to say she doesn’t appreciate it though… “I love beautiful things and I’m privileged to borrow a beautiful dress. I feel really lucky and genuinely enjoy it. I feel like fashion has a proper place in my life. It’s just not a reality every day – not when you have three kids and you go to the market and there are hungry people at home. You have a limited time to do it. There’s just no time to let vanity enter into that.” Spoken like a true mother-of-three. We don’t know how she does it, but we definitely think of SJP as a style icon – and always will! Won’t you?

Sarah Jessica Parker’s simple sophistication in Calvin Klein

Yesterday Marion Cotillard gave Dior’s latest ready-to-wear collection its red carpet debut, and now it looks like Sarah Jessica Parker has done the same for  Calvin Klein. SJP attended Elle‘s Women in Hollywood Celebration in Beverly Hills last night, wearing a pale grey dress hot off the spring/summer 2013 runway. The event was attended by a bevy of gorgeous women from the likes of Emma Stone to Lea Michele (they looked phenomenal too, may we add) but there’s something about the sheer simplicity of Sarah’s outfit that has us hooked. The former Carrie Bradshaw could have over-accessorised with chunky Anna Dello Russo approved jewellery or a contrasting piece of arm candy, but we’re glad she let the dress and her simple, sleek hairstyle do all the talking. One of our favourite Sarah Jessica Parker looks of the year, we think!

Sarah Jessica Parker for the Elle US Women in Hollywood November issue

Well done Elle US for snapping up Sarah Jessica Parker for the 19th Annual Women in Hollywood November issue. She was shot by Alex Lubomirski and is wearing a stunning white Calvin Klein Collection dress for the cover; although we think she was a tad on the over-airbrushed side for the main image, we think the behind-the-scenes-esque photo is utter perfection. We wouldn’t change a thing – the Alexander McQueen dress in particular looks like it was made for her! And even though SJP has a guest role on Glee playing the editor-in-chief of Vogue Online, she insists that she doesn’t want to be type cast in the  “woman who loves fashion” role because (and we totally agree) no one can top Carrie Bradshaw/Sex and the City! “I don’t love the idea of playing another woman who loves fashion and is slightly flawed in New York City,” she said. “I loved Carrie, and I don’t want to do the poor man’s version of her. And while those are often the lucrative things to do, it’s more reason to look in the other direction.” Ps: As if SJP isn’t reason enough to nab the issue, other prominent women in Hollywood such as Emma Watson, Octavia Spencer, Elle Fanning and Kristen Wiig also make an appearance in the editorial. Not to be missed!

Sarah Jessica Parker stuns in Valentino Couture on the red carpet

Sarah Jessica Parker is pretty versatile when it comes to the red carpet, as she looks comfortable – and gorgeous – in both loud, eccentric pieces as well as more chic and subtle creations too. For this year’s New York City Ballet Fall Gala, SJP went for the former option, as she walked the red carpet in a lavish, floor-sweeping embroidered Valentino Couture gown from the autumn/winter 2012 collection, with a fine waist belt nipping in her teeny tiny waist. Sarah actually wore her dress with the matching cape, and although we admire her dedication to going all-out, we think it actually took something away from the intricate, delicate detailing of the dress so we’re glad she took it off for the actual event. Gwyneth Paltrow’s Tom Ford cape/dress combo at this year’s Oscars still reigns supreme as far as capes on the carpet are concerned. SJP’s heavily lined eyes brought some drama and edge to the look, and the twisted, voluminous up-do was the perfect hairstyle to complement the dress. We think Valentino looks pretty pleased with Sarah’s look too, don’t you think?

The truth about that Victoria Beckham/Sarah Jessica Parker collaboration

When we first heard the rumours that Victoria Beckham and Sarah Jessica Parker could be collaborating on a clothing line, we understandably nearly fell off our chairs before proceeding to jump up and down on them and hyperventilate in a fit of excitement. You get the picture – we were loving it, and weren’t afraid to show it! However, we knew that they were only rumours, and despite having all our fingers, toes and other body parts crossed, it’s been confirmed that they’re not actually true. Sad face! A spokesperson for Victoria Beckham confirmed to British Vogue this morning that Victoria will not be creating a clothing line with SJP any time soon. Still, we’re remaining optimistic that a collaboration could still be on the cards in the future. After all, VB has spoken out about how much she loves SJP, Sex and the City and Carrie Bradshaw, while the actress has stepped out in Victoria’s designs on more than one occasion. Our fingers still remain well and truly crossed! To quote Justin Bieber, “never say never”!

Sarah Jessica Parker in Alexander McQueen

The Royalty of fashion paid their last respects to the late designer Alexander McQueen in an eye catching parade of his designs and creations. And standing out from the crowd in this moving ceremony held at St Paul’s Cathedral in London, was Sex and the City beauty Sarah Jessica Parker. Causing a stir the actress opted for a cream layered dress. She paired her frock with a stunning black frocked coat from McQueen’s preview: Spring/Summer 2011 Collection. Parker chose a pair of fitting buckled up stilletos and a statement clutch bag from McQueens’s very last collection. Looking beautiful as ever SJP topped off her look with her hair scraped back into a high bun and a white flower to top finish it off. We think Sarah Jessica Parker did Alexander McQueen very proud. This really was the perfect tribute to a very talented man.

Get the look: Sarah Jessica Parker in Donna Karan

Ladies, a lesson in trans-seasonal dressing from the style queen herself, Ms. Sarah Jessica Parker. At last week’s New York premiere of The Big C, SJP opted for an effortlessly elegant look in a pared-down parker, grey jersey dress and, shocker of all shockers, flats. We love the relaxed girl-about-town look – especially the draped waterfall detailing on her softly tailored Donna Karan jacket – so much so, in fact, we rather fancy recreating her look for ourselves. Edun parka, £355, exclusively at Browns Fashion Edun’s cropped-sleeve lightweight parker is the perfect throw-on jacket for this unpredictable weather, and not only does that ruffle collar give it a bit of structure, it also instantly updates a classic piece with a fresh focal point. Whether you’re a collector, a fashion lover, or just someone who appreciates a well-crafted piece, these bags have a story to tell. 1. The Hermès Birkin The Holy Grail of Handbags It’s 1984, and Jane Birkin, the British actress and style icon, is struggling with her straw bag on a flight from Paris to London. Fate intervenes when she’s seated next to Jean-Louis Dumas, the chief executive of Hermès. Little did they know, their conversation would birth a legend! The Birth of an Icon Inspired by Jane’s dilemma, Dumas sketched a design for a practical yet luxurious bag. And voilà! The Birkin was born. But what makes this bag so special? For starters, each Birkin is a masterpiece of handcrafted perfection. A single artisan meticulously creates each bag, investing up to 48 hours of skilled labor into every piece. Coco Chanel If there’s one iconic fashion designer who’s influenced the industry more than any other, it’s definitely Coco Chanel. She brought something new to the table, freeing women from the restrictions of frills and corsets, instead offering up simple, comfortable styles. 5 Tips To Find The Perfect Eyebrow Shape For Your Face

Everyone knows that perfectly arched eyebrows are the way to go for a polished look, but finding the perfect shape for your specific face can feel like an impossible mission! Don’t worry – we’ve got you covered! We’ve got five incredible tips for finding out exactly what eyebrow shape will accentuate and bring balance to your features. Whether you’re looking for something bold, subtle, or somewhere in between, these simple steps will help you achieve your perfect look. 1. Know What Brow Shape for Your Face Type Take a good look at your face in the mirror. Identify the basic proportions of your facial structure—such as its width, length, and symmetry—as this will give you an idea of what kind of eyebrows will suit you best. Heart-Shaped Face Heart-shaped faces are beautiful and unique, but it can be tricky to find the natural eyebrow shape to flatter their distinct features. To bring out your heart-shaped face’s natural beauty, look no further than the soft arch. This eyebrow shape is ideal for highlighting your facial features and helping to soften any pointed angles. For an extra touch, go with a fuller eyebrow that embraces the length of your brow bone and balances the shape of your face – although be careful not to overdo it! Precision goes a long way when choosing the perfect eyebrow shape for anyone with a heart-shaped face like Naomi Campbell. Round Face When it comes to round faces, Chrissy Teigen and Cameron Diaz are the obvious candidates to look to for brow inspiration. No matter who you’re channelling, a sharp and high arch should be your goal when shaping perfect eyebrows for a round face. Design that arch as high as you can – maybe even higher than you think – without looking too harsh or […]

Ropes and Ropes of Pearls: How Our Grandmas’ Jewelry is Our New Obsession

You have probably heard a dozen times that pearls are making a huge comeback. Thrown in a corner of shade and oblivion for a few years by diamonds and statement bling, pearls waited patiently to return in the spotlight and regain their former glory. If you ask some specialists, pearls never went out of fashion, not even for a second. However, they were left aside as ceremonial jewelry for weddings and sweet sixteen celebrations – demure staples of femininity but too quiet to shine as bright as modern accessories. But everything changed in 2014 and since then, pearls are the new diamonds in town, proving once again that Coco Chanel was a visionary and a woman way ahead of her times. The famous designer once said that women needed “ropes and ropes of pearls” and her words were repeated throughout history. But are we still living the Jackie O. times, or are we wearing pearls in big, bold designs to match our contemporary jewelry frenzy? Taking a look back, we can clearly see that pearls overcame their “demure” reputation and turned into veritable statement pieces all women are dying to wear. How Did Pearls Become So Popular? The answer to this question can be easily found on runways and last years’ fashion shows. As per usual, Chanel set the tone, the music and the scene for one of the boldest and most original comebacks in history. Chanel’s spring 2014 fashion show brought larger pearls in chunky, massive and high-end contemporary designs and the world followed. Soon, Karl Lagerfeld displayed massive pearls as well on the catwalk. Oscar de la Renta placed the pearls on booties, while Simone Rocha adorned everything with pearls, including knee socks. A year later, Honor and Lanvin sent a cascade of pearls on their runways during […]

Jewellery Designer Kat Florence On How To Achieve Work/Life Balance & More…

Diamonds are a girls best friend. Yes. But, for us, all jewellery, especially luxury jewels are our best buddies. So, naturally we jumped at the chance to interview fine jewellery designer Kat Florence. Her extremely sought after, timeless statement jewels created from rare stones, can only be purchased online and exclusively through auction houses. Due to be released later this year, Kat’s recent project titled the Diamond Collection sees her partnering with actress, Sarah Jessica Parker, who not only acts as co-designer but is also the face of the campaign. Here, we get to know more about the Canadian born designer. What’s a typical working day like for you?  My daily routine begins quite simply with my two dogs and a morning walk. Once the dogs are sorted I begin working with the gemstones – everything I do begins with the stones. I find such motivation and inspiration for my designs and the cut of the stones just by taking the time to fully engage/take in the color, shape, luster of each individual stone. Once I have a feeling for the stone I can begin to visualize how I want the gemstone to be set and be placed on a woman’s body. The vision is clear and the sketching can begin. What do you enjoy most about working with rare gems?  I think I enjoy most that each one is so different, the color, the origin, the cut, the history – each stone has its own story which I find so inspiring. I am very lucky to have worked with the rarest gemstones in the world. One of my very first pieces was a 5carat Kashmir Sapphire – an incredibly rich velvet blue stone which I secured in the Himalayan mountains – very rare. Most treasured piece of jewellery? I have a very […]
