Hakaan wins ANDAM award 2010: He was a little known addition to the schedule at February’s London Fashion week, but with a fabulous collection as well as Lara Stone on the catwalk and Kate Moss in the front row the show caused quite a stir. Now it seems that his fashion star is set to shine a little brighter after being given this year’s ANDAM award, with previous winners including Giles Deacon and Gareth Pugh we’re pretty sure there’ll be no stopping him. Read more here. H&M Online is Coming: It’s almost here! Yes, we’ve been waiting a long time for the online counterpart to our favourite bargain-bountiful high street shop, and now we’ve finally got a date. Circle it, cancel all plans and set an alarm because H&M online officially launches on the 16th September. Read more here. John Paul Gaultier launches Lingerie Line: We know what you’re thinking, it’s going to be Madonna Blonde Ambition circa 1990 all over again, and if you ask us – that’s not a bad thing. Jean Paul Gaultier is indeed launching a lingerie line but we’ll have to wait until his upcoming couture show in Paris before we get any clues, as that’s when he’s rumored to be debuting two of the looks from the collection. We can’t wait to see them! Read more here. Calvin Klein revamps Clueless Dress: “Cher, what are you wearing?” “A dress!” “Says who?” “Calvin Klein!” “Well, go put something over it!” “Duh, I was just going to!” Yes we can recite the words to most of the Clueless film too, and we’re pretty sure that particular chick-flick is partly responsible for our love of all things designer. So we’re super excited to hear that with a little help from LA style emporium Confederacy, Calvin Klein is […]

We were just a tad excited to be invited to the AW2010 Chloe press day and were even more so when we arrived and got to sneak a peek at the (drum roll please…) Darla shoulder bag – the most recent addition to the Chloe family. Pictured above and just below, the Darla nods to a 60s aesthetic, with a refined and elegant style that captures the feel of Mulberry’s Bayswater or Hermes’ Birkin. Available in a broad colour palette and a range of luxurious fabrics including box and nubuck calfskin, the chic Darla is sure to be the go-to bag for stylish women on the go. While the ‘it bag’ may be seen as a thing of the past, the traditional-looking Darla looks to be stepping in, affirming itself as the new bag to take notice of. The terracotta and deep purple versions were our top picks for the coming season, while the calfskin (treated like leopard print pony skin) goes for ultimate luxury that begs to be touched – and is perhaps more of an acquired taste. The popular Sally style has also made a welcome return in the same fabric as the Darla, offering an evening bag alternative to its travel-inspired sibling. Whilst the Chloe bags ultimately stole the show, most of the presentation was actually reserved for the fashion house’s youthful, secondary line: See by Chloe. With shoes, bags and a selection of clothing on show, we were especially excited to see that the younger brand has kept hold of that fun yet feminine personality throughout the entire collection. With sleek, heeled chelsea boots, over-the-knee suede boots and wooden wedge slingbacks forming a portion of the shoe collection, See by Chloe look to be acknowledging the trends of recent seasons (and even spring/summer 2010 with those […]

The dreaded bra fitting. It’s something that us women know we should all have done, yet nearly 80% of us are still wondering around wearing the wrong sized bra. Lingerie specialists Freya aim to change all that though, with their new campaign Holy Fit. (Get it?!) Created to raise awareness about the importance of a fitted bra, Holy Fit aims to educate women about the health risks involved by wearing ill-fitted underwear and to help us realise the positive change a fitted bra can make to our appearance and self confidence. To celebrate the launch of this new campaign, Freya has collaborated with British textile designer Laura Lees to create a range of limited edition t-shirts that are both stylish and affordable whilst focussing on the Holy Fit message. Lees – who has previously worked on collections for Giles Deacon, Luella Bartley and Topshop – states: ‘The message is vital for young girls. I myself wasn’t fitted properly for a long time but now that I have, I can’t believe the difference a simple bra has made to the way I look… This collaboration gave me a brand new design challenge and I wanted the t-shirts to be totally unique and bang on trend so they will appeal to all girls.’ Lees’ designs are available in two sizes. This ensures that versatility is key, as the baggy tees can be paired with jeans; over leggings or worn even belted, as a dress. The general sizing also works to focus us on the idea that a bra-fitting is what is most important according to Holy Fit, as opposed to a tight-fitting top. There are only 60 t-shirts in each design so you’ll need to be quick to snap one up! Each shirt is just £25 and all proceeds go towards the […]
Read MoreLunchtime buy: House of Holland t-shirt
Brit designer Henry Holland showed at London Fashion Week on Saturday, revealing his full collection after releasing t-shirt teasers on new blog, C.T.F.O. The collection includes a range of slogan tees, which Holland first became known for when he created rhymes with the names of fashion insiders (e.g. ‘Do me daily, Christopher Bailey’ and ‘Get your freak on, Giles Deacon’) and printed them on neon shirts. The fall 2010 lot however, feature acronyms for the Twitter generation. Forget ‘LOL’ and ‘OMG’ though and throw on one of these black and white ‘F.F.S’ varsity-style tees instead. Or how about a ‘C.T.F.O’, ‘H.M.L’ or ‘N.A.L.G.O’ version? The t-shirts went on sale immediately after the runway show, enabling on-lookers to buy directly from their front row seats via their House of Holland BlackBerry application. Non Crackberry addicts can also get their slogan fix on the House of Holland site now, for £55. Plus, you’ll also see exactly what these abbreviations mean…

Fashion can make stars as quickly as it breaks them, and over the past couple of years few stars have risen higher or shone brighter than young challenger to the British fashion crown William Tempest. And last year was a particularly phenomenal one for the 24 year old designer, who was working for another great British fashion name, Giles Deacon, before he had even graduated for the London College of Fashion. Having launched his own label in 2008, after a stint working for Jean Charles de Castelbajac and dressing Madonna, Tempest was selected to show at London’s Fashion Fringe event and went on to win the Vauxhall Fashion Scout Merit Award in 2009 allowing him to hold his first solo catwalk show – the Tudor themed The Golden Age – which won over pretty much every critic and secured his place as one of the hottest names in London. We caught up with Tempest in the run up to London Fashion Week to find out more about what we can expect to see from this bright young designer in 2010… 2009 seemed to be a pretty amazing year for you – what were the highlights and low lights? Highlights of 2009 were definitely holding my first catwalk show, dressing Victoria Beckham and being selected as one of Vogue magazine’s ‘Class of 2010 – the people who will define the next decade! Any New Year’s Resolutions? To help out others more often and to do something for charity. I’m currently working with Sport Relief at the moment on a great project to raise awareness and money to target malaria in Africa. I loved your Tudor inspired ‘The Golden Age’ collection. It’s difficult not to feel overwhelmed after fashion month. All those shows, all those new clothes and all those new designers to choose from. But in London one woman has been quietly forging a name for herself, emerging slowly from under the radar to become a firm favourite with London-based fashion editors and the girls at Vogue. Olivia Rubin is a graduate of the infamous Central St Martins fashion school, the college that gave us Luella Bartley, Hussein Chalayan, Giles Deacon and John Galliano among many, many others. At 27, Rubin has already worked with Jaques Azagury and fellow Brits Alexander McQueen and John Galliano. Her own line hit our radar when she was shortlisted for the semi-final of Fashion Fringe 2007 and 2008 and has gathered a list of fashion savvy celebrity fans that most designers would kill for including Lily Allen and M.I.A. In past collections, Rubin has specialised in creating urban-inspired graphic prints on architectural shapes, which in other hands would be scary but in hers is soft and flattering – girly without the schmaltz. Her oversized brick print has become something of a signature, floating around the body on simple charcoal grey shifts, chiffon dresses and peach maxi dresses (the charcoal brick print shift has been on our wishlist for ages as has her brick embroidery print tunic). We managed to grab five minutes with Rubin to find out more about what drives her…

Perhaps it’s the Michelle Obama effect, perhaps it is a fabulously well-played campaign or maybe it is a love of fashion, that has pushed the Prime Minister’s wife Sarah Brown to stand up for UK fashion. The PM’s wife paid a visit to our fabulous London Fashion Week; she even had time to stop off at Stephen Jones’ very exclusive party. Where she mingled with the likes of Erin O’Connor, the man himself and everyone from Giles Deacon to Anna Piaggi. But when she wasn’t parting the night away she was on her very own fashion campaign. She has called on the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, and the Royal Family to help LFW. It isn’t as widely acknowledged as Milan, Paris and New York, and tends to be overlooked. She is asking our leaders; to help us fashionistas put our home on the fashion map once and for all. Speaking about her commitment to the BFC during its 25th Birthday, Sarah explained: “The Mayor, the Palace-we should all work together to keep London Fashion Week as big and bright as we can. It’s in all our interests. She really is doing her best to get involved, not only attending the party, but also trekking around the exhibition, and watching the Vivienne Westwood show. It’s a positive step forward for British fashion. [Image, Source]

Knits are integral to this seasons dress and with them they bring a new approach to oversized and baggy. From sweater dresses to cardigan coats, designers like Stella McCartney and Giles Deacon are breaking down the barriers in terms of what actually passes as a ‘whole’ piece of clothing; wearing a cardigan is now no longer an extra layer as much as an outfit in itself. However you might want to take into consideration the fact that standard lightweight crochet knits may not cut it this autumn/winter. Invest in chunky knits – the chunkier the better. The slogan genius, that is Henry Holland, single-handedly bailed out the t-shirt from its painful few years in high security fashion prison, to deliver us a collection filled with satirical delights. Showing his notoriously famous t-shirts with Fashion East at London Fashion Week last week Monday, models sported t-shirts emblazoned with phrases such as ‘I’ll show you who’s boss Kate Moss’ and ‘Wham bam thank you Stam’ House of Holland t-shirts known for their witty, daring rhyming schemes challenge the imagination and are a far cry from the mundane ‘Team Jolie’ and ‘100% sexy’, making them a big hit! Lady Sovereign wears ‘Biggest midget in the game’, which was custom made for her and everybody’s favourite MySpace rapper, Marvellous Macc Mello, donned Holland’s ‘Cause me pain Heidi Slimane’ T-shirt back in November. Hype surrounding Holland T-shirts began when the Fashion Groupies collection was released last September. Designer Giles Deacon wore a ‘Uhu Gareth Pugh’ T-shirt at fashion week and Gareth Pugh returned the favour by wearing a ‘Get your freak on Giles Deacon’ at his catwalk show. Other slogans in the Fashion Groupies collection include “Do me daily Christopher Bailey’! House of Holland is available at houseofholland.co.uk
