Are you at all surprised to see this stylish doyenne’s name as this week’s Best Dressed? Thought not! Diane Kruger took to the red carpet at the Toronto Film Festival for the premiere of Inescapable, starring beau Joshua Jackson, in a breathtaking Valentino Fall 2012 Couture number. Looking nothing short of absolutely stunning (no surprises there!), Diane pulled of the couture creation with aplomb, as she went about rocking an exquisite, long sleeve, fur-lined, sequin-adorned bodice atop an asymmetrical high waisted skirt. Accessorising her show-stopping look with a black clutch, classic black pumps and a bling ring, and opting for soft makeup, a slick of red on the nails and an ever-stylish top knot, Ms. Kruger ensured all eyes were on the million dollar girl in that million dollar dress we all want! What do you think of Diane’s couture look? [Image: Grazia]

Lady Gaga’s Ulyana Sergeenko Couture dresses ease us into LFW!
It’s officially the first day of London Fashion Week, and even though we’re currently tent-hopping at Somerset House we couldn’t possibly leave you hanging RE your daily celeb style feature. Just one of the reasons you love us, right? LFW is all about going big or going home, and if there’s one lady who lives by that motto, it’s Lady Gaga Her latest appearances in our fine Capital = case in point! The singer and overall fashionista did her bit for up-and-coming designers by stepping out in not one, but two Ulyana Sergeenko Couture creations while in London. The two pieces were loud and attention-grabbing in true Lady-G style, and we think her own personal additions (the black neck piece with the red gown and the turban with the bridal gown) only enhance the look. We don”t think anyone else could make it work quite like she does though, so maybe don’t try this at home just yet! London Fashion Week is known for supporting emerging talent, and it’s nice to see Lady Gaga doing her bit too! Will she make an appearance at one of the shows? Only time will tell!
Read MoreKeira Knightley dons Chanel Couture for Anna Karenina world premiere
Keira Knightley and Chanel are the ultimate dream team, so it came as no surprise to learn that the fashion House had dressed the actress for the Anna Karenina world premiere in London’s Leicester Square last night! We weren’t totally loving this Chanel Couture gown when we saw it on the autumn/winter 2012 runway for the first time, simply because there’s a lot going on with it structure-wise, and the movement could be a bit complex for some people. Having said that however, Keira is no amateur, and she pulled it off rather effortlessly. (We don’t know how gracefully – or quickly – she walked while on the red carpet, but she’s definitely rocking it in all the pictures!) We had to show you a close-up of the look too, because at the end of the day, no one can do that porcelain, English rose beauty look quite like Keira Knightley. Exquisite!
Read MoreRachel Weisz scoops Best Dressed of the Week in Christian Dior Couture
Raf Simons’ magic at the helm of Christian Dior Couture made its first outing thanks to Marion Cotillard, who donned a stunning ensemble from the designer’s debut Couture collection for the fashion house, for the London premiere of The Dark Knight Rises, last month. More recently, Jessica Biel followed suit and stunned in an ultra-feminine powder pink Dior Couture dress at the Total Recall LA premiere, earlier this week. But is was Rachel Weisz in a stunning, black strapless bustier Dior Couture Fall 2012 dress at the New York premiere for The Bourne Legacy earlier this week that had us picking up our dropped jaws from the table! Mrs Daniel Craig looked resplendent in a genius take on the perennially sexy Black Dress (although we’re going to call it the MBD or Mid Black Dress). Completing her look was a black Charlotte Olympia ‘Pandora Domino’ clutch, Christian Louboutin ‘Bow Bow’ sandals, an elegant up do and a seductively scarlet pout. We really can’t think of a more deserving (and painfully stylish) candidate for this week’s BDOTW!
Read MoreJessica Biel dons Dior Couture for Total Recall LA premiere
After being really impressed with her Total Recall promo wardrobe, to say we were looking forward to Jessica Biel’s upcoming sartorial choices for the premieres would be a bit of an understatement. Thankfully, we weren’t disappointed with the future Mrs Justin Timberlake’s red carpet appearance at the Total Recall Los Angeles premiere last night, as she donned a powder pink dress from Raf Simons’ debut Christian Dior Couture collection… and she rocked it! A deliciously feminine piece, but Jessica put her own retro stamp on it by accessorising with toe cap shoes and chunky, bold accessories. They might not be everyone’s cup of tea with such a dainty, romantic look, but the styling went down a treat with us! And speaking of Jessica Biel’s style, we put our two pennies in over at the wonderful Splash News TV… so if you want to hear our opinions on Jessica’s style and our predictions for her and JT’s wedding, check out the video here.

You wouldn’t think it was the autumn/winter season judging by these bright ad campaign images, would you? After being a little disappointed with Karlie Kloss’s debut as a British Vogue cover girl (maybe because we hyped it up a bit too much?) her ad campaign for the Juicy Couture autumn/winter 2012 collection has reignited our immense love for her. Karlie sports some fab, attention-grabbing pieces from Juicy Couture’s latest collection, including a floral jacket, leopard print catsuit, and tiger printed jumper, as well as some seriously cool bling that we bet even some rappers would be jealous of. Plus, we can’t get over the definition of those cheekbones. Could this girl be any more perfect? Oh and in case we forget, “Happy 20th Birthday” for tomorrow Karlie – you will be a teen model no more! [Sassi Sam]
Read MoreMarion Cotillard wore Dior Couture for The Dark Knight Rises London premiere
It was the European premiere of the new Batman film The Dark Knight Rises last night, but it wasn’t the only premiere of the evening… This was the first time Raf Simons’ Christian Dior Haute Couture collection was seen off the runway – and on none other than the always impeccably dressed face of Miss Dior, Marion Cotillard. (We’re crossing our fingers that we could see the other Miss Dior beauty Mila Kunis in a piece from the new collection too!) Marion wore a light orange bustier top tucked into a high waisted black and white houndstooth skirt, which was finished off with a waist cinching black skinny belt and an assortment of red accessories in the form of shoes, a clutch, and of course, lipstick! We didn’t think those colours would have worked that well together, but Marion has definitely proved us wrong! The vintage Hollywood hairstyle finished off the chic and classy look perfectly. Raf Simons couldn’t have chosen a better lady to debut his work!
Read MoreShould designers have the right to ban celebs from wearing Couture?
As you may know by now, Dolce and Gabbana hosted its very first Couture show in Sicily this week. But I won’t blame you for not knowing, because Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana wanted their show to be as hush hush as possible, with only the most exclusive and elitist of guests witnessing the collection. Their reason for shrouding the event in secrecy was quite simple: their clients didn’t want to see the designs in magazines or on celebs. So, out of respect to them, the boys kindly obliged. After all, this Couture business doesn’t come cheap, and at the end of the day, it’s the aforementioned elite customers who buy the dresses, and if they aren’t happy, then there’s really no point in having a Couture line at all. Is there? And with that reasoning, why stop there? Why draw the line at Couture? Pretty soon, we could potentially have clients calling dibs on a ready-to-wear outfit and forcing the designer to pull it out of the catwalk show. That would be rather unthinkable though, wouldn’t it? After all, do we all go to fashion week to fill up our new season wardrobes by pointing to the garments we want and saying “yes I’ll have me one of them”? No. We go to scope out new designers, emerging trends and see what has the potential to be translated into the High Street. And where would the fun be if we didn’t have that? What would we talk about with our friends? Would we even have jobs? The questions are practically endless! While I respect the designers for actually listening to their clients – how many people can you really say that about, eh? – I think I’d be positively devastated if Couture disappeared from our catwalks in a few years’ time. […]
Read MoreDeets on the secret Dolce and Gabbana Haute Couture show…
Even though Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s debut Dolce and Gabbana Haute Couture show in Sicily was shrouded in secrecy, we still managed to find a pic of one of the key looks – a gorgeous fairytale inspired floral ballgown! Three publications (The Daily Telegraph, Le Figaro, and Corriere della Sera) and some of the world’s richest (and of course, stylish) women were invited to the show, in the hope that they would snap up a few of the 73 dresses that made it down the Couture runway. “When we started out 27 years ago, our dream was to become a maison like Chanel, old Chanel,” said Stefano Gabbana. “And now, maybe, this dream is coming true.” We’ll say! And if you’re wondering why the event was so hush-hush and all the guests were requested to not get too snap happy or post the pics they took online, it’s because the boys said their clients didn’t want to see their dresses in magazines! We hope some more pics of the collection will emerge within the next few days, but even if that one image above is all we have to go on, we’re happy to take a stab in the dark and say the boys’ Couture debut was a roaring success.

Read MoreArmani Privé and Chanel’s Haute Couture AW12 shows
The Armani Privé Couture collection was a very sugary sweet one, which used a dreamy sunset-worthy colour palette comprised of purples, blues and lots of sparkle to boot. Predictably, wide-legged trousers were in abundance, as was headgear in the form of beaded veils and black hats courtesy of Philip Treacy. Our highlights were the stunning dresses during the finale which were in a world of their own, but the loose, draped silhouettes that were presented throughout the show went down just as well. Despite being called “new vintage”, Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel collection had a somewhat 1940s vibe to it thanks to the wide shouldered, tailored pieces that came in mostly grey, silver, black and various shades of dusty and pastel pink. As we all know, Chanel invites are few and far between at the best of times, but Karl Lagerfeld really does only select the most exclusive of guests to attend the Haute Couture shows. However, Diane Kruger was naturally sitting pretty on the front row, and we can’t help but imagine her in 3/4 of the new pieces that came out. No doubt she will have first dibs on whatever outfit she wants, and we can totally see her rocking the check coat modelled by Anja Rubik on a frosty night out in the winter, can’t you?
Read MoreOlivia Palermo’s legs go on forever at the Christian Dior Couture show
Yesterday we gushed about how incredible Jessica Alba looked in her leather Versace dress, and today it looks like the material is also doing wonders for Olivia Palermo. If we’re being honest, we think most things do wonders for her, but she really is doing a good job of swaying the leather skeptics among us. She attended the Christian Dior Couture show in a leather peplum waist-cinching top from the fashion House’s Resort 2013 collection, teamed with some cute navy flared shorts and a white Dior bag. We love the slightly disheveled hairdo, minimal accessories and bold red nails too! This look kind of reminds us of Jessica Chastain’s one a few weeks ago, which just confirms that a fab, statement black top and some simple navy shorts really is a killer combo. Olivia never fails to disappoint on a front row, and this was no exception. Bring on her next FROW appearance!
Read MoreInside the Atelier Versace Couture show
Huge congratulations to Donatella Versace and the rest of her team, as the Ritz in Paris played host to Atelier Versace’s fist ever Couture show since 1997 on Sunday night. Christian Dior wasn’t the only show we were waiting with baited breath to see! We had a small feeling the autumn/winter 2012 show was going to be quite the spectacle, but that turned out to be a massive understatement. In a word… it was epic! The Atelier Versace collection was “built upon the idea of deconstruction and reconstruction in all its various forms. “Inspired by the imagery and decoration of tarot cards, powerful symbols such as the sun, moon and world are reproduced on weightless fabrics with a glass effect,” reads a press release from the fashion House. “The elements of these tarot cards have been rendered and embroidered as though seen through the eyes of Pablo Picasso, giving them an abstract feel.” Pretty cool concept, huh?! Predictably, the front row was laden with only the most famous of faces (naturally clad in their Versace ensembles), the likes of which included Jessica Alba, Christina Hendricks, Lea Michele, M.I.A, Fan Bingbing and Pierce Brosnan among others. Welcome back Atelier Versace Couture!

Never has a catwalk collection been more anticipated than the Christian Dior Haute Couture autumn/winter 2012 one that took place in Paris yesterday. The first collection shown by John Galliano’s successor was inevitably always going to be, but we don’t think Raf Simons let the nerves get the better of him. The new Creative Director presented a clean, fresh and downright beautiful Haute Couture collection that combined the true essence of the Christian Dior brand with the flare of femininity, romanticism, and contemporary edginess that he brought to Jil Sander. We bet Raf Simons was really feeling the pressure though, as the hottest names in fashion turned up to witness his first show. Donatella Versace, Marc Jacobs, Anna Wintour and Anna Dello Russo were all on the front row watching with very beady eyes! What do you think of Raf Simons’ first duties for Christian Dior?

Yep, Dolce and Gabbana is going Couture! Cue screams of excitement! Just because Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana haven’t got their D&G diffusion line to worry about anymore (sniff!) it doesn’t mean that they’ve been sitting around twiddling their thumbs. On the contrary they’ve been very busy boys indeed – first introducing a brand new childrenswear line, and now branching out into the wonderful world of Couture! The Dolce and Gabbana brand will be showing its debut Couture collection on July 9th, but rather surprisingly, the show’s going to be held in Taormina, Sicily, as opposed to Paris – the official home of Haute Couture Fashion Week. And it’s also going to be quite a small affair, with only a select group of clients and “three media outlets” being invited to witness the action. We can’t wait to see what’s in store! Are you pleased to see Dolce and Gabbana branch out into Couture? [Telegraph]

Well what do you know, Blake Lively looked absolutely breathtaking at the LA premiere of Savages last night – shock horror! As if anyone doubted that she would look anything but a vision of utter perfection, though. The stunning actress – and new face of Gucci – rocked the red carpet in a figure-hugging black and nude Zuhair Murad gown from the Spring Couture 2012 collection which pretty much fit her like a glove. We always said that Jennifer Lopez and Zuhair Murad were a match made in heaven (he is creating her tour wardrobe after all) but we think he and Blake also make a pretty indestructible team too. The dress is indisputably stunning, but it doesn’t act alone in making Blake’s overall look so wow-worthy. Her old Hollywood glamour girl side-swept waves, subtle jewellery, pillar box red lips and crescent nails also contribute to the sartorial magic. Flawless!

With the biggest event in the fashion calendar going down this week, it’s no surprise then that this week’s RATE or SLATE is doing just that to some rather thought provoking Met Ball 2012 dress choices. The ever-fashion forward Alexa Chung attended this year’s Met Ball as the guest of fashion god Marc Jacobs, and wore a creation from the designer’s fall 2012 collection. (natch) Usually, we take a second glance at Alexa and then continue to stare in awe at how she has concocted up her latest look, but this time we’re not totally sure how we feel… Lily Collins’ interesting choice made for some rather exciting viewing! Opting for a fashionably romantic creation, Lily wore a sheer lace Valentino couture gown and looked every inch the red carpet queen. Although the Little House on the Prairie-inspired gown may not be every one’s first choice, it kind of worked on Lily, but we’re still deciding…. Jaime King decided to do a repeat performance of Ginnifer Goodwin’s foray into high street fashion for the red carpet at last year’s Met Ball, but we’re not entirely convinced she outshone her predecessor! It over to our Style Jury… Fashion News Ed says: Alexa Chung: ‘Anyone who reads MFL will know that we love a bit of Alexa Chung… she can do no wrong in our eyes, but this is one of the very rare occasions where something has gone a little bit awry. I love the dress, but for me, the shirt ruined it… totally not appropriate for such a prestigious event!’ Lily Collins: ‘I adore Lily Collins’ Valentino Couture! This is the standard I expect to see at the Met Gala… I love how Lily mixed it up and embraced the theme of the evening, but still opted for youthful and […]

Diane Kruger is a lady after our own hearts! Just by looking at her you can guess why we’re gushing, as she looked a vision of classic couture beauty in a spring 2012 Giambattista Valli couture dress. One to bend all red carpet fashion rules, and, of course, a lady close to the heart of fashion’s outspoken Kaiser, Karl Lagerfeld; Diane was unarguably red carpet royalty as she attended the screening of Farewell My Queen at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival. The opulent polka dot and sequined dress was eye-opening enough to demand only minimal accessorising. Diane stuck to the offhand beauty of the gown and adorned her look with a set of cuff earrings, statement ring, a metal belt and a Judith Leiber wildcat crystal embellished clutch. The Gothic glam appeal of her gown was played up with a slick of dramatic black nails, perfectly pitched against dewy makeup and a twisted knot up do. Diane will always be a fashion winner for us, and we’re definitely championing this red carpet super-hit!

Read MoreInside Valentino’s atelier: how couture is created
Down an unsuspecting cobbled street and inside ancient unassuming architecture in the heart of Rome’s over-subscribed city lies the life of one of Italy’s most iconic couturiers – Valentino. It’s not every weekend one gets asked to visit what is, perhaps, one of the last remaining real couture ateliers, but then again, it’s not every weekend one gets whisked off to Rome with the aforementioned luxury label for company. And as experiences go, this was certainly on par with visiting Santa’s Grotto as a six-year-old girl. But we’ll warn you now, there’ll be no visual candy in this post (on the request of Valentino and for reasons we hope are rather obvious). An introduction from the atelier’s manager in the courtyard tells us when we step inside the surrounding stone walls, we’ll witness girls, as the dressmakers are referred, creating the clothes we see on the catwalk; we’ll see the materials and feel the fabrics; we’ll learn the secrets of made-to-measure sizing and the art of structuring; we’ll hold some of Valentino’s most iconic creations. It’s rather amusing, really, that for us the above sounds like something straight from a sartorial dream – we can touch the dresses? – but for the atelier’s girls, it’s just another piece of silk organza, another stitch, another day at work. For all Valentino’s great elegance, these women, crowded around several small tables on the second floor of a warm rustic building, sharing jokes about the over-excited group of foreigners that have come to see them sew a sleeve to a blouse, are really rather ordinary. But their work, well, that’s quite a different matter. Everything you know from Valentino’s couture collections is created here in this humble home. The cream lace dress Jackie O wore to get wed in 1968; a replica of […]

It’s that time of year where we get holiday blues – soon Wills and Kate will be jetting off into the sun and we’re insanely jealous. But hey, we’ve got another bank holiday to look forward to over here, and that’s excuse enough to make start on our holiday wardrobe, especially as the weather has been decidedly sizzling lately. Luckily, we’ve found the perfect pair of sandals to set off our slowly-developing tans. Whilst Juicy Couture is well-known for its chavtastic velour tracksuits, it also makes some cute footwear, and these sun-ready wedges definitely tickle our fancy.
