Normally I wouldn’t advocate plunging necklines and super short shorts, but in this instance it works. The muted grey is a flattering shade and the whole ensemble suggests a style icon in the making. But whilst it works as an outfit you can’t help but notice Rumer’s somewhat mottled legs. I myself as a pale skinned girl can completely sympathise, but she would have done better to put on a little body foundation or a pair of tights. This is the problem with short shorts and pale skins, it is a shame though because this is an example of how beauty neglect can detract from an otherwise great outfit. Although if I can be really picky I would have liked to have seen her wearing shoes in the same gunmetal shade as her clutch (but I like the shape of her black courts).

An interview with designer Lulu Guinness
Since designing her first handbag in 1989, Lulu Guinness has launched a hugely successful vintage-inspired accessories brand – combining kooky uniqueness with girly glamour – that has attracted the likes of Helena Bonham-Carter, Dita von Teese and Claudia Schiffer. With stores spread across the globe, partnerships with the likes of Japan’s Itochu Corporation and Stratton Compacts, an OBE, AND an anniversary collection coming up, Lulu Guinness is one busy lady. It is some wonder that we managed to catch up with the designer herself, gaining an insight into the life of Lulu Guinness in the brand’s 20th year… It’s been 20 years since you started the Lulu Guinness brand. Which collection, to date, have you most enjoyed working on and why? I enjoy working on all my collections. I love the design process and am constantly inspired by vintage fabrics, markets, films, anything really. My new AW09 Anniversary collection I loved working on because we’ve brought back some of my favourite icons and prints from over the years.

At Elton John’s post Oscar party, you expect a whole host of stars. You expect all those who don’t get an invite to the awards to pull out all the stops for the parties. But there was only one person, we all wanted to look at: Victoria Beckham. She looked sensational. Who would have ever thought a long sleeved, high necked, floor length gown could ever look so sexy? It is one of her own creations, from her Victoria Beckham line and it really is stunning. There were other contenders for the style crown at the party, but none could beat Victoria. But let’s have a look at them anyway. So near There were some fabulous dresses on show, and one great trouser suit. I’m not normally a fan of suits at black tie events, but Eva Longoria managed that perfect blend between masculine and sexy. Those puffed up shoulders look fab and her toned down make up and hair suit her perfectly. Kate Beckinsale looked great in a beautiful one shouldered black dress. The diamonds also added a little sparkle turning her into a true Hollywood siren. Jennifer Love Hewitt managed to find the perfect fitting dress, and whilst it might not be the most showstopping of gowns, it suits her figure and shape beautifully. Natasha Bedingfield also opted for black in a form fitting number. The fish tail oozed sex appeal, whilst that low back showed off her great physique. There wasn’t a huge amount of colour on show. So a big round of applause goes to Tamara Mellon for her fabulous red dress. Almost modern Dynasty, she looks so on trend it hurts. And Elle Macpherson reminded us once more why she is ‘The Body’. She was also the most suitably dressed for a party sponsored by […]

The burlesque-inspired look made popular by our fave style icon Dita Von Teese is super-sexy and feminine, in short a desirable trend for any girls out there who love a bit of glamour. Whilst Dita might make it look simple don’t be fooled, this is not an easy look to pull off, simply donning red lipstick, fishnets, and lace will most likely leave you looking more like a fashion fatality than femme fatale. Help is at hand however in the shape of Australian label;

Even standing in the queue for this show was an event; it was a who’s who of celebsville, from Pamela Anderson to Mischa Barton to Kate Moss to Erin O’Connor and Dita Von Teese, yes they were all there en masse. Oh, and I must add that Dita really is flawless. So, on with the clothes and the curiously long catwalk (the models must have been exhausted). To say I was excited is an understatement but I am very pleased to report that the Grande Dame of fashion did not disappoint.

So she kissed a girl and she liked it, yeah yeah we know the story, there is no denying that Katy Perry has become the latest reigning princess of pop. And why not?! She ticks all the boxes, pretty, catchy song, kitsch dress sense and goes around kissing girls, apparently. But I am still not sold, whilst I can’t help but sing along to her number one single, and yes I have downloaded it, I’m just not sure I believe her, what is it about the Perry?

I’m not going to lie—over an hour of waiting in line in four-inch heels after a ten hour day at work makes me cranky. So cranky, in fact, that I will contemplate getting out of line, especially when it looks as though, a) I won’t get into the show and b) If I do get in, it may never start as it’s already nearing the hour delay mark. Luckily for me (and my feet!) I was one of the last people let in and I muscled my way into a seat. As the lights dimmed and sultry Brazilian music pumped out over the sound system, my bad mood disappeared. Iódice was absolutely delightful.

Dita Von Teese, Claudia Schiffer and Victoria Beckham did their best to add a wow factor to Roland Mouret’s presentation in Paris this week. But no matter how much they posed and pouted, nothing could distract us from fantasising over their shoes. Oh, the shoes!!!
Read MoreUnlikely style icons
Unlikely style icons are popping up all over the place, gaining credibility for their quirky, unusual approach to fashion and take on style. Modern girls (and boys) are now naming the likes of politicians, geeks, and even cartoon characters as inspiration. A quick Google of the phrase ‘unlikely style icons’ produces results ranging from Marge Simpson to Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, and even…shock horror…Britney Spears – but in all seriousness, there were some truly great names there that are deserving of the accolade of “style icon , standing apart from the usual suspects because they are self-styled in a truly personal way. The likes of musicians Annie Lennox and Amy Winehouse are true fashion trailblazers and my personal favourite, Ugly Betty is an icon in her own right. Her melange of printed shirts and colourful knits has a ‘just-thrown-together’ look, or geek-chic if you like, but is actually a combination of highly sought after labels like Primp, Marc Jacobs and Kenneth Cole….channelled by the cool indie kids whose image is interpreted as effortless but in reality is carefully co-ordinated, combining random charity shop finds. On the other end of the scale, super-grooming and classic style is proving inspiring for many. Condoleeza Rice is frequently featured in the fashion pages, alongside burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese and immaculate Desperate housewife Brees. All in their own way achieving a kind of female ideal for very different reasons. The great think about unlikely style icons is their illustration that style is individual. [Image:uglyisin]
