Read MoreRopes and Ropes of Pearls: How Our Grandmas’ Jewelry is Our New Obsession
You have probably heard a dozen times that pearls are making a huge comeback. Thrown in a corner of shade and oblivion for a few years by diamonds and statement bling, pearls waited patiently to return in the spotlight and regain their former glory. If you ask some specialists, pearls never went out of fashion, not even for a second. However, they were left aside as ceremonial jewelry for weddings and sweet sixteen celebrations – demure staples of femininity but too quiet to shine as bright as modern accessories. But everything changed in 2014 and since then, pearls are the new diamonds in town, proving once again that Coco Chanel was a visionary and a woman way ahead of her times. The famous designer once said that women needed “ropes and ropes of pearls” and her words were repeated throughout history. But are we still living the Jackie O. times, or are we wearing pearls in big, bold designs to match our contemporary jewelry frenzy? Taking a look back, we can clearly see that pearls overcame their “demure” reputation and turned into veritable statement pieces all women are dying to wear. How Did Pearls Become So Popular? The answer to this question can be easily found on runways and last years’ fashion shows. As per usual, Chanel set the tone, the music and the scene for one of the boldest and most original comebacks in history. Chanel’s spring 2014 fashion show brought larger pearls in chunky, massive and high-end contemporary designs and the world followed. Soon, Karl Lagerfeld displayed massive pearls as well on the catwalk. Oscar de la Renta placed the pearls on booties, while Simone Rocha adorned everything with pearls, including knee socks. A year later, Honor and Lanvin sent a cascade of pearls on their runways during […]

Read MoreYou’d be surprised how easy it is to re-create Reese Witherspoon’s look
The best thing about awards season? The fab red-carpet inspiration, especially in the hair and beauty department. One of our personal favourites from the 2015 Critics Choice Movie Awards was the beautiful Reese Witherspoon. Paying homage to Brigitte Bardot, Reese’s make-up was created by none other than celebrity make-up artist Molly R. Stern. “I wanted Reese’s look to be simple, clean and modern, to offset her stunning Lanvin gown,” said Stern, while her luscious locks came courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel. We’ve got step by step tips on how you can re-create Reese’s radiant hair and make-up at home. MAKE-UP Prep the face by massaging in Natura Bisse the Cure Pure Serum for a luminous base. Even out your skin tone by sparingly applying Chantecaille Future Skin Foundation. Contour the hollows of your cheeks blending upward and add a pop of color with an apricot blush. Apply Christian Dior Fusion Mono Matte Baked Eyeshadow in 761 Mirage into the crease of your eyelids and give them a neutral smoke with NARS Eyeshadow in Blondie. Roughly line and smudge the upper and lower lash line using Jillian Dempsey Khol Eyeliner in Jet Black. To complete the eyes, curl your lashes and add two coats of jet black mascara. Finish with the moisture-rich Burt’s Bees Lip Crayon in Sedona Sands for a natural pale pink lip. HAIR Spray John Frieda Luxurious Volume Fine to Full Blow-Out Spray from mid-shaft to ends to create a foundation for optimum volume and hold. Part your bangs in the middle and blow-dry the hair smooth with a medium round brush for a full, sexy blowout. Take a 1” inch curling iron and curl the hair very loosely, leaving the ends out. After curling the whole head, apply John Frieda Beach Blonde Sea Waves Sea Salt Spray to break down the waves and give […]

Read More5 of our favourite key Autumn 2014 trends
If the end of another summer is leaving you blue, then take a look at the upcoming fashion trends for autumn 2014 and pick yourself up with some seasonal retail therapy. Oversized Scarves: No autumn/winter wardrobe is complete without a scarf and this year, it’s all about oversized wraps and wearable blankets. Bright and bold patterns in woollen knits and lightweight, romantic silks graced the catwalks of Burberry Prorsum, Vivienne Westwood and Issa this year. But if you’re looking for something a little more sedate that’s suitable for day-to-day wear then Winser London offer two elegant, oversized yet manageable scarves that are perfect for softening the structured lines of a trouser suit – another of this season’s key trends – or layering up over dresses and casual weekend clothes. 1960’s Throwback: Every year the world’s leading designers pay homage to a bygone era and this season, those classic asymmetric shapes, bold prints and short hemlines of the 1960’s were favoured in the Valentino, Gucci and Luis Vuitton collections. To give your wardrobe a classic nod to the 1960’s, pair cropped trousers, denims or an A-line skirt with a polo-neck jumper. Once again, Winser London have got this trend spot on with a selection of polo-necks in five warm, autumnal colours that flatter any skin tone and which are ideal for professional or cosy, casual wear. Embroidery and Embellishment If you’re looking for a show-stopping dress for an event this autumn, then delicate materials in rich tones that are beautifully embellished or embroidered are where it’s at. Oscar de la Renta, Alberta Ferretti, Valentino and Roberto Cavalli all included sensational, sheer and embroidered gowns in their autumn 2014 catwalk collections. Although many high-street retailers will be adopting this trend, Winser London have applied beautiful embroidery to a delicately tailored dress for […]
Read MoreClaire Danes for Harper’s Bazaar UK October
If you thought the Harper’s Bazaar September issue was exciting, just wait ‘til you see who the mag bagged for the October issue! Continuing its hot streak of female cover stars, Harper’s Bazaar UK has tapped the gorgeous Claire Danes to appear on its October cover. Minimal, understated, autumnal… it’s the epitome of an October fashion glossy cover if you ask us, and Claire Danes couldn’t be a more perfect cover girl. The Homeland actress is posing in some truly dreamy pieces on the cover and in the editorial, including a stunning Zac Posen dress teamed with Harry Winston jewels (below), as well as Salvatore Ferragamo and Lanvin to name just a few. She also opens up about Homeland, marriage, and motherhood… “Being a mum is incredibly challenging but we still feel a pressure to talk about it in very romantic terms,” she said. “ “We all have that resentment at times and anxiety about being trapped by the role, that responsibility. And then chemically it can run riot. Your mental state, the hormonal swings are so extraordinary and singular to the female experience and they haven’t been taken very seriously or considered very deeply. “I mean, post-partum aside, even if you have the most healthy relationship with your child and have support and resources, it’s tough. It’s really tough. And there’s no “off” button. For me that was the hardest adjustment.” We commend her for being so candid about her emotions. You can read the rest of her interview in Harper’s Bazaar’s October issue – out now!

Read MoreDid Kim Kardashian and Kanye West secretly get married?
If we are to believe the reports, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West attended last night’s Met Gala in New York City as a married couple. Congratulations, we think! It’s being reported that Kim and Kanye tied the knot in secret during a civil ceremony, just before jetting off to the Big Apple for the Met Gala. (Click here to see the stunning blue Lanvin dress that Kim wore – it definitely won’t divide the critics as much as last year’s Givenchy one did!) “Kim and Kanye are now married on paper,” a ‘source’ reportedly told Life & Style. “They got their license in California over the past few days. Kim and North are on their way to NYC now.” Don’t worry, this doesn’t mean the pair’s big Paris wedding has been called off, as Kimye are still planning to go ahead with their big ceremony next month. Will Kim wear Lanvin just like she did at the Met? Will she wear a dress by her good friend Riccardo Tisci? So many questions, but it isn’t that long until they can be answered! [My Daily]

All the big names in fashion, film, and music gathered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City last night, for the highly anticipated Met Gala! This year, the museum was honouring Charles James, and the dress-code was a very simple (albeit slightly “boring” according to Marc Jacobs) “white tie and decorations”. Anyone familiar with the work of Charles James would know that elegant eveningwear was his thing, so they wouldn’t have gone wrong by donning the finest couture pieces with some elegant jewels. There were many ladies who absolutely nailed their looks, while some probably should have stayed home. Stella McCartney had a big moment on the red carpet, dressing the likes of Rihanna and Reese Witherspoon so flawlesslessly for the event, in two very different but equally stunning dresses. Rihanna went for her signature sexy look, while Reese was a vintage glamour goddess. Selena Gomez also wowed on the red carpet for us, looking very mature for just 21 years old in a bold deep purple Diane von Furstenberg dress. We also love how Gossip Girl stars Blake Lively and Leighton Meester were reunited at the Met Gala – they both looked amazing in their respective Gucci Premiere and Emilio Pucci dresses. Not all of the ladies went for full-length or ballgown dresses (like Hayden Panettiere who looked like a Princess!) though – Solange Knowles and Lena Dunham were just two of the stars who went for something a little bit shorter. The impact definitely wasn’t lost though. Here are our best dressed celebs from last night’s Met Gala. Let us know who gets your vote in the comments below. Victoria Beckham in Victoria Beckham Rihanna in Stella McCartney Blake Lively in Gucci Premiere Reese Witherspoon in Stella McCartney Selena Gomez in Diane von Furstenberg Emma […]
Read MoreElizabeth Olsen covers Marie Claire UK June in Miu Miu
We featured her older sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley just a few days ago (they were talking about their new fragrance with Ellen DeGeneres) but today it’s all about Elizabeth Olsen. The gorgeous actress is Marie Claire UK’s June cover star, shot beautifully by David Roemer and firmly getting us into the spring/summer spirit thanks to a very apt floral Miu Miu dress and a killer smile. As well as posing in hot designer threads from Lanvin to Carven, she opens up to the mag about family, feminism, and most interestingly of all, who she had plastered on her bedroom wall. (Hint: it’s probably not who you think!) “I never had a heart-throb or a band I loved, but I had Michelle Pfeiffer, so I tried to copy what my friends would do and had magazine pictures cut out in frames,” she said. “She was the reason I wanted to be an actor.” And there we were thinking Elizabeth – or Lizzie as she prefers to be known – caught the acting bug from her famous sisters. You can read more interesting revelations in Marie Claire UK’s June issue, out today!

We were quite happy to sacrifice another night’s beauty sleep for the 56th Grammy Awards which took place in Los Angeles yesterday, as the red carpet was as riveting as ever! We’re eternally grateful for the invention of satellite TV and live streams, otherwise we wouldn’t have got the full “chain mail” effect of Taylor Swift’s stunning Gucci Premiere dress which was the talk of the red carpet and MFL HQ this morning. Another lady who got us talking for all the right reasons was Katy Perry, who gets the award for “most apt dress” thanks to the Valentino Couture music note dress she stepped out in. She gets extra points for lifting a look off the Couture Fashion Week runway so soon after its catwalk debut! Rita Ora decided to go for a short, sweet and sexy look on this occasion, swapping her usual gowns for a dazzling, reflective Lanvin dress. Well, if you have a body like Rita’s you might as well make the most of it and show it off, are we right? Blue was a hot hue on the red carpet last night, as Amy Adams, Lupita Nyong’o, the Jennifers (that’s Lawrence and Garner!), Mindy Kaling and E! presenter Kelly Oscbourne all rocked up in varying shades of the colour. From bright to sparkly to bold to understated – it was all there! It was another big night for the stars of the silver screen last night, as they walked the red carpet for the 19th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards held in Santa Monica. Although it wasn’t as big an event as Sunday night’s Golden Globes, and a few of our faves were noticeably absent (where were you, Jennifer Lawrence? Sad face!) the attendees still pulled out all the stops and wowed us with their red carpet sartorial choices. Lupita Nyong’o once again stole the show for us, this time opting to wear a white Calvin Klein Collection dress for the occasion. We know we’ve been going on about her all week, but we think our obsession is justified. And it doesn’t look like we are the only ones to love her, as she picked up the Critics Choice Movie Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in 12 Years a Slave. Amy Adams is another lady we are watching with hawk eyes during this awards season, as she once again blew us away in a bold coloured frock; this time it was a gorgeous pink Roland Mouret dress! Golden Globes time! Yep, it was the 71st annual Golden Globe Award ceremony in Beverly Hills yesterday, and the red carpet was once again full of the biggest and best-dressed names in Hollywood. TV and films stars alike came together for one of the biggest nights on the awards season calendar, and to say they pulled out all the sartorial stops would be a bit of an understatement, as we don’t think our list of best-dressed celebs has ever been this big! Lupita Nyong’o definitely stole the show for us with her effortlessly elegant Ralph Lauren caped look (we got flashbacks to Gwyneth Paltrow’s Tom Ford cape dress at the Oscars a few years ago) while Olivia Wilde and Camila Alves also made our jaws drop with their glittering gowns courtesy of Gucci Première and Dolce and Gabbana respectively. Unsurprisingly, Sofia Vergara went for the wow factor in a large Zac Posen dress, while Jennifer Lawrence went for a Dior dress, as was expected. It looks like Jay Z made the right decision by sticking with his Barneys collaboration, despite the earlier controversy, as he raised over $1 million for his charity, the Shawn Carter Foundation. The range, rather aptly entitled BNY SCC (although it’s a bit of a mouthful to say!) saw Beyonce’s hubby collaborate with some of the hottest names in the fashion industry including Balmain and Lanvin, where he put his stamp on some pricey clothes and accessories. Pieces included a python-brimmed $875 leather sports cap, an NYC NYC logo t-shirt retailing for a more humble $70, and a $2,950 tuxedo jacket co-created with Lanvin. Both Jay Z and Barneys pledged that 100% of the collaboration’s profits and 10% of all Barney’s sales would go to the Shawn Carter Foundation, a charity which will help students in need pay for their university education. With stats like that, are you glad Jay Z stuck it out or do you think he should have pulled out of the collaboration as soon as the racial controversy started? [Telegraph]

The Oscars, the Grammys, and more red carpet premieres than you can shake a stick at – 2013 definitely gave us some stylish highs and lows. However we’re focusing on the former as opposed to the latter as we were always taught that “if you haven’t got anything nice to say, don’t say it at all”, and that’s what we’re sticking to. For this post, anyway! We’ve trawled through the style archives to find our ultimate best-dressed stars of 2013, and we’ve finally settled on a top 10. Yes, there were sleepless nights, arguments, and copious amounts of coffee consumption, but we’re satisfied with our verdict. Let us know if you agree with us, and whether you think we’ve left anyone out. Or given someone a spot they don’t deserve! Jennifer Lawrence in Dior at the Oscars. For the past four years, Claridge’s has received a very stylish Christmas make-over by a big name in fashion, and this year is no different as the luxury hotel has asked Italian duo Dolce and Gabbana to do the honours! Happy faces all round! “Our Christmas tree isn’t only a celebration of Christmas as we celebrate it in Italy, but it’s also a tribute to the artisanal Italian tradition, the same that we love to export worldwide with everything we do,” the boys explained. “When we think of London, we always think of Claridge’s and its typically English atmosphere, which fascinates us and makes us fall in love with the city every time as if it were the first.” Aww, isn’t that nice?! Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana join the likes of John Galliano and Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz, and we predict their seasonal offering will be just as wow-worthy. The Christmas tree will be unveiled on November 26th, so we have just over a month to wait and see what the boys have up their sleeve. [Vogue]

The designer will be opening her first ever store in London’s Mayfair – 9 Mount Street to be exact – at the beginning of next year, and we couldn’t be happier to welcome her (and her stunning designs) to our fine Capital. “Opening our first store is a huge milestone for me,” the designer said about the new chapter in her professional life. “It is crucial that it is here in London, and this incredible Mount Street site is the perfect location. “The store will be the home for the brand in more ways than one, and will be the ideal space for my vision for the label to be fully realised.” Roksanda is in good company too, as Mount Street is also home to the likes of Marc Jacobs, Christian Louboutin, Lanvin, Balenciaga and more. To gear us up for the launch of her new store, Roksanda has joined forces with Gary Card to create a three-week-long installation in the shop window that will feature eight of her iconic dresses. The dresses will be up for grabs exclusively at Net a Porter should you wish to purchase a little piece of history. We can’t wait for the shop to open- we’ll let you know the exact opening date as soon as soon as we find out! [Vogue]
Read MoreThe real reason behind Kim Kardashian’s baby wardrobe Insta-binge
When Kim Kardashian, world’s hottest-mama-right-now, decided to embark on an Instagram binge to introduce the world to her daughter’s teensy, top tier designer wardrobe, we looked at our sorry Zara hoard and felt the pangs of an under accomplished sartorial life. Whereas North West, or Nori, as she is affectionately referred to by her parents, will be running riot in her new, $11 million home in Céline sneakers and stripes, we’ll be sticking to the affordable permutations gracing the window displays of Zara and Cos. But we all know, the Noris and Blue Ivies of the world aren’t born with a silver spoon in their mouths, but rather a sterling silver Elsa Peretti Padova spoon, so Mummy K showing off North’s designer-packed wardrobe shouldn’t come as a shock, right? Well, anything Kimye do sends Richter scale shattering tremors trough celebville (even if its just casually arriving at Gare du Nord in coats du jour), so it was natural for us to wrack our brains thinking of the real reason behind every personalised caption Insta-pic Kim diligently took to uploading for the universe to ogle in a fit of motherly envy. And here’s what we concluded: A snapshot into Nori’s privileged wardrobe is Kim’s way of declaring her induction into the upper echelons of untouchable fashion. That’s right. Her constant mingling with ‘Ricky’ Tisci in custom-made-the-night-before outfits; befriending the lady, and then gracing the cover of Carine Roitdfeld’s CR Fashion Book, and sitting front row at Paris Fashion Week – not forgetting her infamous, floral-clad appearance on the Met Gala red carpet sealing the deal with regards to a Wintour-Dashian friendship- was Kim’s way of not only screaming “I’m back!,” but of creating a watertight, almost Victoria Beckham-esque fashion body image – and, fast becoming the poster girl for the old age […]

Congratulations to newlyweds Kate Bosworth and Michael Polish! The happy couple tied the knot at the weekend during an intimate ceremony in Phillipsburg, Montana.… and as she revealed during her candid interview with The Edit, she did indeed walk down the aisle in Oscar de la Renta. In fact reports are claiming she wore two ODLR dresses! Hubby Michael Polish scrubbed up well too, looking very dapper in Brooks Brothers. Don’t they look gorgeous in the picture? Kate’s wedding pics are set to be featured in the winter issue of Martha Stewart Weddings, out in December, so this picture will have to tide us over until then. Looking good so far, though! [Image]
Read MoreSteep vs. Cheap: LPD (Little Pink Dress)
Ok, here’s a little next season secret we’re letting slip: pink is in, and in a big way. The autumn/winter 2013 runways were awash with the colour, which ran the gamut from powdery pink at Jonathan Saunders and Simone Rocha to the fiercest fuschia at Lanvin and Antipodium. And wanting to get in on next season’s colour action now is only natural for us fashion insiders, so here’s a desirable shot of the perky colour for with this week’s Steep vs. Cheap. Injecting our wardrobes with a wash of much-needed colour, whilst possibly forcing us into near financial ruin, is this week’s steep choice – Roksanda Ilincic’s Lambton wool-crepe dress. Nabbing this draped-to-perfection LPD will require forking out a princely £705, but if you’ve got the dosh spare then why not? Say hello to new season compliments now! Fretting over faltering on your fashion status due to a lack of wardrobe-expanding funds? Fear not, because we’ve tracked down an equally eye-popping version of the LPD on the high street. Cashing in at a pleasant £195, we’re digging the Alice silk dress from girl-on-a-budget haunt, Reiss. Affording you statement back detail and delivering a jolt of raspberry in pure silk for under £200 – win win! Will you splash out, or curb the cash frittering? Steep: Roksanda Ilincic Lambton wool-crepe dress, £705, available at Net-a-Porter Cheap: Alice silk dress, £195, available at Reiss
Read More“I’ll be the most hated man in fashion” – Alexander Wang’s first thoughts on the Balenciaga job
Alexander Wang’s appointment at Balenciaga has gone down a storm; he even got the Karl Lagerfeld seal of approval, which is proof enough that the fashion world has welcomed him into Nicolas Ghesquière’s role with open arms. However, the New York based designer has revealed that he very nearly turned it down (in fact he said “no” the very first time François-Henri Pinault asked him!) for fear of backlash from the fashion world. Perish the thought! “My first reaction to was no,” Alexander Wang said. “I told him that I was so preoccupied with what I am doing with my own brand in New York, and I’ll be the most hated man in fashion!” “I felt that fear was driving my decision-making, so I wrote down a list of pros and cons and asked myself, ‘What am I afraid of? The perception of failure? The perception of what people might think?’ I knew that what I wanted completely outweighed all of that.” We bet he’s glad he took the job now! Going up Festival beauty: Suddenly, we’re all raving in fields and bubblegum blue mascara is perfectly acceptable. Festival season’s taking over, but it does come with its downfalls. Lack of hot showers and long queues for toilets can bring out the worst in use, but there isn’t much that pink semi-permanent hair colour, bright eye shadow and feather lashes can’t sort out. Transatlantic takeovers: On a non-fashion note, we can’t help but feel proud of the American intervention we’ve recently experienced. From J-Lo’s raunchy antics on Britain’s Got Talent to Alicia Keys taking her adorable son to a theme park in the Midlands and Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher’s secretive pub dates. And then there’s Jessie J, debuting her delicious new look (oh, that bod!) in the video for her latest video Wild, featuring Big Sean and Dizzee Rascal. Fashion’s future: Graduate Fashion Week is nearly coming to a close, and the idea of seeing fresh, emerging talent taking its first steps into this challenging industry is exciting. With over 1,000 BA fashion graduates from 40 UK colleges showing their collections, alongside students from 16 universities around the world including Parsons and FIT, in New York, will the next Christopher Bailey or Stella McCartney be discovered? The two most famous Ks: One’s a certified royal, and the other is also part of an establishment better know as the Kardashians. Both are due to give birth pretty soon and we can’t wait to see Kate Middleton cooing over the royal tot’s frilly hat, and how many diamonds will adorn Kimye’s daughter’s cot. Blue Ivy, who? High Street denim takeover: Yes, that’s right. Although it’s not earth shattering news, it is when the high street’s most cost effective name takes on a dot com domain! Asos will become the newest home for […]
Read MoreCarey Mulligan is Best Dressed of the Week in Boss
After a flurry of stunning looks for her The Great Gatsby promo tour, Carey Mulligan took time out to reset the red carpet record with a complete blackout. Attending the BOSS autumn/winter 2013 menswear and womenswear show in Shanghai earlier this week, Carey’s style was a lesson in androgyny, far removed from the super-feminine looks she’s been sporting of late. Carey wore a BOSS blazer, bustier top and tailored trousers, accessorising with Brian Atwood Aida heels and a slick of warm red on her lips. A glowing complexion and chicly swept back up do finished off this rather simple yet striking look, effectively. Although we love a statement accessory or two, we’re digging Carey’s minimal style, as it brings into focus the simplicity of her look without making it seem like a boring boardroom ensemble. The key to getting the androgynous look right is to add feminine accents, and the coloured lip, heels and hair do that perfectly. Image: Vogue
Read MoreThe Great Gatsby Edit: Top picks even Daisy Buchanan would approve!
So, The Great Gatsby fever has well and truly gripped Britain, ahead of its UK release on May 16, and we couldn’t help but sneakily slide into the action a slice of decadent Twenties fashion. With no less than 40 outfits from the film painstakingly slaved over by none other than the very high priestess of fashion herself, Miuccia Prada, we can’t begin to put into words the excitement we’re feeling on a sartorial level! So, to celebrate the release of Baz Luhrmann’s reinterpretation of the F.Scott Fitzgerald classic, we’ve picked out our favourite pieces inspired by the Gatsby era. But we’re not talking literal, fancy dress-esque pieces here, rather separates that hark back to the Roaring Twenties, but with a fresh and wearable feel. Capture Daisy Buchanan’s glamour with plenty of embellishment, art deco-inspired finishes and enough feather trims and luxe accessories to guarantee bagging your very own Jay Gatsby! Shop our top Twenties picks below. Tucker Gold Sequin Embroidered Cropped Jacket, £325, My Wardrobe: The perfect cover up with a retro feel; slip this over a slinky LBD and dance the night away. Gedebe Mini Cliky Bijoux Snake Shoulder Bag, £422, Luisaviaroma: The Twenties were all about ornate accessories, and this bejewelled bag hits the spot! Black Double Feather Shoulder Chain Cape, £30, River Island: A Twenties sartorial affair wouldn’t be complete without a smattering of feathers. Wear this atop a simple, drop-waist dress for maximum effect. Drop Waist Ruffle Hem Dress, £95, Reiss: A classic Gatsby era silhouette, subtly updated for the 21st century woman. Lanvin Dedale Silver-tone Swarovski Crystal Clip Earrings, £585, Net-a-Porter: We love the art deco vibe these earrings exude; perfect show stoppers for an evening look. Read MoreMiley Cyrus goes punk for V’s summer issue
Miley Cyrus already wowed us on a fashion glossy this month, as it emerged that she was the cover star of Elle UK’s June issue. However that’s not the only magazine to tap the former Hannah Montana star as she’s also posing rather fiercely for the summer edition of V! Look at her go! Miley was shot by none other than Mario Testino for the punk-inspired shoot (we think this might be a nod to the upcoming punk theme of the Met Gala – it will be live streamed tonight by the way, don’t forget!) and is rocking a series of edgy outfits and multiple bright hair colours. Orange, purple and pink are just a few of the hair shades that Miley can be seen with in the editorial; sounds fairly questionable on paper but we actually think she pulls them off quite well. We’re big fans of the purple, what about you guys?

The red carpet has been alive this week with a flurry of show stopping looks! From Katy Perry in Vera Wang to Carey Mulligan in red-hot Lanvin, it’s safe to say there’s been a fair bit of serious style contending going on! So naturally, when it came to picking our Best Dressed of the Week, we were, well, stuck! But after much contemplation, Zoe Saldana’s sweetly monochrome look won us over. Zoe attended the ‘Star Trek Into The Darkness’ London premiere wearing a Vionnet Pre-Fall 2013 gown. The embellished black bodice sat atop the white asymmetric skirt to striking effect, offset beautifully by a slick of red on the lips and nails, and a vintage-inspired, side swept hairdo. Rounding off this head turning ensemble are Christian Louboutin peep-toe shoes, as Zoe chose to go clutch free. Her strong stance, the unexpected silhouette and fuss-free styling make this look a deserving winner!
Read MoreJewellery Trends SS13 Now on the High Street
[noskim] The jewellery trends for Spring/Summer 2013 are as different and fabulous as ever, as we begin to see them hitting the high street. As such, there were so many different styles out there on the catwalk that everyone, whatever their preference will be able to find something that they will love this season. The Folk Look Big, bold and embellished are what we saw from Dolce and Gabbana, with tassels, pom poms and ribbons hanging from ears and around necks. The great thing about this trend is that those with crafty fingers can make their own for a fraction of the price. The Classic Look, Oversized Chanel’s classic string of pearls were sent over the top with giant clusters and pearls as big as marbles as chokers and bracelets. The oversized jewellery was seen in other shows too, as Lanvin produced metal chokers and McQueen showed bee covered necks and wrists. Oversized jewellery has been in vogue for a while now, so you will find it easy to procure something in your taste on the high street. Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend Delicate silver jewellery was seen all over, from diamond-drop earrings at Louis Vuitton to diamond encrusted beetle jewellery at Vivienne Westwood. Classic jewellery will always be found on the high street, but with the internet there has been a revolution in buying jewellery and having it sent right to your door. Try www.diamondsandrings.co.uk for a selection of beautifully cut diamond jewellery. Semi Precious Gems Etro’s show included lots of big geodes and gemstones, so if gemstones are your thing then you’re in luck. Read MoreBlake Lively and Emma Stone make a welcome return at The Croods premiere
Blake Lively and Emma Stone have been noticeably absent on the red carpet these days (well, we can never get enough of them even when they do regularly grace us with their presence) so we’re glad to see them return for the New York premiere of The Croods – we welcome them back with open arms! Emma Stone looked divine in a monochrome Lanvin dress with an exaggerated bow at the back, which she teamed with a long, layered necklace, nude pumps and smouldering smoky eyes. Blake Lively, or should we say the relatively new Mrs Ryan Reynolds, also wowed the crowd as she lent her support to her hubby on his newest film. Blake flashed her perfect pins in a skin-tight burgundy and white Marios Schwab dress, which she teamed with her signature dishevelled “I just got out of bed but look how perfect I look” hairstyle. And if there’s anyone to convince us that white pumps are okay, it’s Blake… anyone else have leg envy?
Read MoreWhere was Hedi headed?
Well, what a week it’s been at Paris Fashion Week, and, although Wang’s debut at Balenciaga was rolling off the tip of everyone’s tongue, it was Hedi Silmane’s second collection since taking the helm at Yves Saint Laurent that got fashion gossip stirring. So, what did you make of Slimane’s second design offering for the Parisian fashion powerhouse? Shunning the legendary French chic the brand has built its identity upon, Slimane went down the route he knows best: grunge, and unapologetically Californicated at that. Critics haven’t been too kind either, slamming the autumn/winter collection shown in Paris on Monday for straying too far from what has come to be expected of the iconic brand. But all wasn’t lost to negative review. Courtney Love tweeted her affection for the collection, dubbing it ‘rich ladies buying what we used to wear’. But that shouldn’t come as surprise given Love’s naturally grungy aesthetic, along with front rowers Alison Mosshart and Sky Ferreira, who similarly didn’t have much to complain about. Notably, Jess Cartner-Morley of The Guardian described the appearance of grunge on Parisian runway space, where sophistication reigns supreme and straying from the highbrow approach to dressing is by no means considered the norm, as ‘an abstract concept’. This asks the question, then, whether Hedi’s departure from the accepted ways of the Parisian fashion set was a deliberate act to assert his arrival at the house. But he could’ve done that in his debut collection, right? Unsurprisingly, assertion has been a key theme this season; Simons asserted his famed sensitivity at Dior, Wang, by injecting the wearability at Balenciaga, and, of course now, Hedi. I can’t help but mention here, that Tom Ford’s excitably eclectic autumn/winter ’13 collection had that two-finger attitude witnessed at Saint Laurent, or, as I like to call it, the […]
Read MoreVictoria Beckham in Burberry for Elle UK’s revamped March issue
Apart from the all-important September issues, the March editions of the fashion glossies are the biggest issues of the year. So with that in mind, it’s crucial to secure the right cover star… and we reckon Elle UK can relax and watch the sales soar now that it has given the responsibility to none other than Victoria Beckham. Talk about piling on the pressure, but we think Posh can handle it! VB can be seen posing and pouting (natch) in a stunning new-season Burberry leather jacket, as well as a sexy bodice also from the British brand. She also posed for photographer Carter Smith in pieces by Lanvin, Hussein Chalayan, Miu Miu, Manolo Blahnik and her very own Victoria Beckham collection. And it’s an extra-special issue for the magazine too, as it’s debuting its brand new design. What do you think? We actually love the new Elle and think VB was the perfect lady to help launch the mag. It’ll definitely shift a few copies! [Elle]

It was only last week we told you about Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz collaborating with Lancôme on what sounded like a pretty epic make-up range, but that’s not the only side project the French cosmetics brand is working on. Lancôme has also teamed up with Olympia Le Tan, the designer behind those awesome book clutches loved by fashionistas and celebs alike (Michelle Williams was spotted carrying our favourite Catcher in the Rye one a few years ago) for a special one-off collaboration. Olympia has designed a limited edition clutch bag which celebrates Lancôme’s ‘Rouge In Love’ lipsticks and nail polishes. We really did mean “limited” by the way, as only 100 have been made (Emma Watson’s already been given the first one) so if you want one, head to Harvey Nichols next month with £995 and you’ll be one of the bag’s very few lucky owners. Read More10 of the best trends of 2012
We can’t believe 2012 is drawing to a close so fast, and with festive prep in full blast, we’ve taken out a little time to help you reflect on the trends that defined the runways of 2012. From ornate embellishment to luxe leather; gym gear gone glam to shirtless collars – 2012 brought several lasting pieces and styles to our wardrobes. To refresh your memory, as next season creeps upon the ever-moving world of fashion, here’s to a trip down trend memory lane to refresh your fashion mindset, and cleanse the mental palate to make way for next season’s stunning wares. Sports luxe: Olympic fever gripped the globe this year, and with so much fitness apparel, fine abs and Tom Daley in full view, designers couldn’t help but take gym gear up a few chic notches; off the treadmill and straight onto the runway(with a few modifications, obvs). Embellishment: The SS’12 shows marked the beginning of our obsession with festooning everything from cardis to clutches and slippers to socks. Even for a/w’12, Lanvin and Balmain delivered heavy smatterings of crystals and beading to their fashionable wares, whilst Christopher Kane’s embellished clutches and jeans became summer staples. We approved. Collars: Dismantling the shirt, a firm wardrobe staple, left us with a collar and free reign to do anything to it! What started out as a pretty and prim game of peek-a-boo atop cosy knits Alexa (yes, she) wore with dresses and shirts underneath became a full-blown global phenomenon. Encrusted with stones; crisp white; metallic; printed or Peter Pan versions, the collar did pretty well at pushing the statement necklace of its pedestal. Candy shades: Probably the biggest summer trend to slip into our wardrobes, pastel shades were everywhere! We blame the house of Louis Vuitton for getting us unhealthily hooked on shades of […]

We love a good magazine cover, but sometimes editorials are just too good to ignore, which is why we had to share Alexandra Richards’ shoot for Harper’s Bazaar Spain with you guys this morning. The model daughter of Rolling Stones legend Keith Richards and model Patti Hansen was photographed by Benjamin Kanarek, and is showcasing some of the finest partywear of the season in the editorial pages of the mag. Now we don’t really understand a lot of Spanish, but we’ve worked out that the young model is rocking designs from the likes of Christian Dior, Chanel, Lanvin, Roberto Cavalli, Moschino, Prada and Givenchy among others. There’s even a nod to British fashion too thanks to the outfits by Burberry Prorsum! And of course no fashion shoot is complete without a pair of sky-high Christian Louboutins. Major props to stylist Vanessa Naudin for cramming so much designer talent into one editorial! Do we think Alexandra could be the next Georgia May Jagger? We predict 2013 is going to be a big year for her! Click here to check out all of the images from the shoot in all their glory, as well as a cheeky behind the scenes video. Read More3 ways to dress up your beloved jeans for the ultimate evening look!
Jeans are the ultimate wardrobe staple, worn with almost everything we own. Yet we still choose to exclude them when planning a party outfit, opting instead for tailored trousers or skirts and dresses. These usual culprits for evening wear can get a little boring, and this is why your wardrobe needs a little style refresher with an injection of good old denim! Styling jeans for an evening look isn’t as difficult or casual as you may think. Just like a biker can add a tough luxe feel to summer style, boots can take most of your summer wardrobe into autumn and a printed suit can be ‘da bomb’ (pardon the laidback lingo) outside of the boardroom; when worn in the right way, jeans will fast become the foundation for your after hours style. The key to getting it right is to make a statement accessory the focal point of your look, and build the rest of your look around it. Printed jeans add interest and are a major trend to covet right now. To help make taking the denim plunge at your next party a little easier, we’ve styled a must have pair of jeans in 3 ways to give you varied and super-glam evening looks. Take your pick and party away! Look 1 Current/Elliott The Ankle skinny jeans – black brocade (shown throughout), £195, available at Donna Ida; Tibi Leather-collared silk-crepe shirt, £405, available at Net-A-Porter; Avant all-over embellished boots, £120, available at Topshop. Here it is! No more sneak peeks here, there, and everywhere, as the Maison Martin Margiela for H&M ad campaign has finally been unveiled. The campaign was shot by British artist Sam Taylor Johnson, but the image above isn’t where it ends, oh no. A series of short films shot in Paris is set to be released next month too (November 8th – write it down!) and will feature male and female non-models. Looks like Lanvin’s “regular people” theme is catching on then! “Working with such an anarchic house as Martin Margiela alongside a high-street brand was a challenge that creatively became a crazy, fun project,” Sam Taylor Johnson said. “I wanted to create an atmosphere that was both quiet and still. That each person was in their own emotional and physical thought space. A world away from the heady atmosphere of the usual urban noise.” We are very impressed with what we see so far. Remember to check back here on November 8th for a first look at the video campaigns.
Read MoreHeadgear du jour: The Baseball Cap
Hats off to fashion’s recent revival of headgear, in particular the baseball cap. The humble headpiece hasn’t been this lauded since the (stylistically questionable) 80s, and fashion designers are taking a particular liking to it, as they imagine what we want to adorn our heads with, hidden away in their ateliers. Although our love affair with the baseball cap started on the S/S’12 runways, and Olympics fever that gripped us this summer certainly had a part to play; Autumn/Winter ’12 also offered the cap in copious amounts, and varied versions, sitting atop beautifully constructed outfits other than a baseball jersey and track pants tucked into socks. Catwalk cap approval came in the form of multicolour lattice print caps at Lacoste; raised front baker boy caps with mesh inserts and snapbacks at DSquared2 and fun-injected leather versions in red and black, emblazoned with slogans such as ‘Ride It’ on upturned rims at House of Holland. But it’s not only the big names in fashion that approve. The celeb world’s casual adoption of the cap has elevated its status to new heights; with the likes of Rihanna, Jessie J and Rita Ora preferring to wear caps by street names such as Trapstar, Boy London and Obey with high end looks, adding a street-luxe feel to its previously sporty appeal. And now that fashion has had its way with the baseball cap you can expect it to be available in a multitude of prints, doused in all forms of embellishment and worn with everything from a military trend shift to an oversized tweed coat. To celebrate the comeback of the baseball cap, we’ve picked our top 5 favourite versions to suit every budget. 2 Tone Cap, £15, available at Asos Lanvin Curly Lambskin Cap, £420, available at Matches Leopard Print Baseball Cap, £15, […]

Time for the likes of Lanvin, Balmain, Rick Owens, Nina Ricci and Roland Mouret to have their turn on the Paris Fashion Week spring/summer 2013 catwalks now. Some designers stuck to what they know while others went for quite a big image overhaul. We think we’ve reached that stage where we can recognise a Balmain dress when we see one, and it looks like that’s still the case with this season too. Just a week after it made its debut on the runway, Nicole Kidman stepped onto the Emmy Awards red carpet in a stunning blue and white sparkly dress courtesy of Antonio Berardi… and she looked phenomenal in it! Also looking flawless on the red carpet in aquatic colours were Sofia Vergara (when does she not look perfect though?!), Hayden Panettiere and Heidi Klum, while the likes of Claire Danes, Ginnifer Goodwin and Padma Lakshmi also turned heads in their respective bright yellow and orange pieces. We were pleased to see some Chanel on the red carpet too, as rising star Emilia Clarke wore one of our favourite dresses from the recent Resort collection. Take a look at some of our best dressed celebs from the night, and vote for your favourite in the poll below. Once again, it’s going to be a tough choice!
