It’s no secret that celebrities play a strong role in fashion. A specific designer could do very well for themselves if they are lucky enough to drape their design across a celebrity’s body. The same holds true for engagement rings. Remember when Prince William presented Duchess Kate with Princess Diana’s sapphire and diamond ring when they got engaged? Brides-to-be all across the world clamored at the possibility to have a ring just like hers. Who could forget Lady Gaga’s heart-shaped ring, which may very well have increased the sales of diamond engagement rings? These are just a few examples of rings that caused a commotion and had everyone “oohing” and “aahing”; not to mention scrambling to find a similar piece for the perfect engagement. In 2013, the biggest trend was the cushion cut diamond set in a pave halo setting. This is the exact ring that Ryan Sweeting used to propose to Kaley Cuoco from The Big Bang Theory. Kelly Roland, formerly of Destiny’s Child, also got this exact same cut and setting from her then-boyfriend, manager Tim Witherspoon. This engagement ring combination was highly popular during 2013 because it gave the illusion that the center diamond was bigger than it actually is, thanks to the pave halo. Yet another trend that has taken Hollywood (and the collective masses) by storm is the vintage or antique look. These diamond engagement rings evoke old Hollywood glamour and, in many cases, include various accent stones. Kylie Minogue received one such ring from her boyfriend Joshua Sasse when he proposed back in January 2016. Mary-Kate Olsen is another lucky Hollywood maven who got a vintage-inspired rock from her fiance Olivier Sarkozy. Another antique diamond engagement ring that made all the ladies swoon is the seven-carat stunner that George Clooney used to propose to Amal […]

It was a big night in New York last night, as the 2014 CFDA Awards took place at the famous Lincoln Centre ready to honour some of the highest achievers in fashion. We’ll get straight down to business and reveal that the highly anticipated Womenswear Designer of the Year award went to the one and only Joseph Altuzarra; he beat off stiff competition from both Alexander Wang and Marc Jacobs which really does speak volumes. Former Womenswear Designer of the Year winners Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen once again walked away with an accolade at this year’s ceremony, as they bagged the Accessories Designer of the Year award for The Row. Nice work, ladies. And as we told you a few months ago, Rihanna was honoured with the Fashion Icon award, while Tom Ford went home with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award. A huge congratulations to each every one of the nominees and winners (click here to see the full list!) for their gargantuan achievements in the world of fashion. ‘Til next year!
Read MoreThe richest fashion families – from the Armanis to the Versaces – revealed!
The Sunday Times Rich List was announced at the weekend, but now it’s time to take a look at a list a little more fashion focused. More specifically, the 14 most powerful fashion families – thank you Harper’s Bazaar! So, who do you think made the list? It comes as no surprise to learn that the Armanis have got it pretty good; as of 2013, Giorgio Armani’s fortune was estimated at over $8.5 billion, and with his sister Rosanna and two nieces Silvana and Roberta also working with/for him, that’s a very rich family indeed! No fashion rich list is complete without Ralph Lauren and his family; his £14 billion empire can’t be ignored! Ralph’s wife and children do their bit for the family name and business by representing the Ralph Lauren brand across the world, which we think makes them entitled to dip into the RL family savings. Donatella Versace is obviously high on the list, running the House of Versace for her brother Gianni Versace, while relative newcomer Alexander Wang and his family have already cemented their place on the list. And with his fashion involvements increasing as the days go on, he won’t be disappearing from the list any time soon. We’re glad and not at all surprised to see Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen on the list either. They may have come into the spotlight when they were under a year old, but the work they have done for their fashion empire is no coincidence or stroke of luck. They’ve worked hard to go from child actors to respected fashion designers, and that’s definitely reflected in the success of their The Row and Elizabeth and James clothing lines – not to mention their eye-watering fortune! The one name we’re shocked to see omitted from the list? The […]
Read MoreCameron Diaz wears skin-tight The Row to ‘The Other Woman’ London premiere
If you’re worried about losing your sex appeal when you reach the big 4-0, just look to Cameron Diaz who will hopefully ease your minds. Cameron looked positively sensational as she attended the London premiere of The Other Woman, wearing a skin-tight black dress from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s The Row for the occasion. And that dress left very little to the imagination, hugging each and every curve wonderfully and leaving no room for a single error. The blonde actress paired her sexy dress with a simple pair of nude Manolo Blahniks, making it clear what the stand-out piece of the ensemble was. She did add some ultra sparkly jewels to her outfit though, which we think completed the look effortlessly without taking any attention away from the dress. Do you love her edgy premiere look as much as we do?
Read MoreMarc Jacobs, Joseph Altuzarra and Alexander Wang up for biggest CFDA prize
The nominees for this year’s CFDA Awards have finally been announced, and we can reveal that Marc Jacobs, Joseph Altuzarra and Alexander Wang have all been chosen for the biggest prize of the night: the coveted Womenswear Designer of the Year Award. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who have previously won the Womenswear Designer of the Year Award for The Row, are nominated in a whole new category this year. They’ll be facing stiff competition from Alexander Wang as well as Proenza Schouler boys Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for the Accessories Designer of the Year Award. We couldn’t possibly pick a winner so we think it’s going to be a close one! And now onto who will definitely be picking up a prize… Tom Ford will be honoured with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, while Raf Simons will be picking up the coveted International Award. The ceremony will take place on June 2nd. Who’s your money on?

One of the cheaper items from the world’s most fashionable celeb twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, but by no means the least stylish. Today’s lunchtime buy is a stunning Elizabeth and James haircalf clutch that we know you’re already falling in love with. It’s the perfect statement piece for those monochrome outfits; whether you add it to a simple black evening dress, clutch it during Fashion Week (it’s the perfect size for all those invitations and the crucial show schedule – and maybe even a map if you’re geographically challenged like us) or add it to an already bright and jazzy ensemble, you’ll get a big thumbs up regardless! This Elizabeth and James haircalf clutch features dyed haircalf fur (duh!) all the way from Italy, and boasts gold-tone hardware, a handy zip closure and Faille lining. What’s not to love? We’re sticking with our back to school theme this week, and nothing brings us back to those classroom days more than a backpack. We wont tell you how long it’s been since we set foot in a classroom though… shudder! We know some backpacks can be a little bit on the pricey side (yes Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, we are looking at you and your gorgeous albeit ridiculously priced backpacks) but this snake zippy one from Topshop will only set you back £36. There’s a reason we love that high street store! Although this snake zippy backpack comes in an abundance of colours, including the failsafe black, it’s the grey one which has grabbed our attention this lunchtime. It’s appropriate for all four seasons, and you can afford to be a lot more experimental with your outfit choices as this bag goes with – and complements – just about anything. Topshop snake zippy backpack, £36

Back in October 2011 we brought you the very disturbing news that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen had designed a backpack for their The Row clothing line which retailed for an eye-watering £26,000 ($39,000). Then at the end of last year, the Olsen twins teamed up with Damien Hirst to make the backpack even more expensive special, and it went up to £34,000. Yikes! So which celebrity is rich and generous enough to buy it not even for herself but for her significant other? Enter Lady Gaga, who rather lovingly bought it for her boyfriend Taylor Kinney. Aww. ‘Taylor loves his backpacks so she wanted to get him a real one-of-a-kind – only 12 have been made,” a source reportedly told British tabloid The Sun. Hopefully we will see him wearing it in public very soon – he should wear it every single day for the foreseeable future to get Lady G’s money’s worth! [Grazia]

We all know that awards ceremony red carpet arrivals are just as important as the actual gongs that are received inside – and last night’s CFDAs at the Lincoln Centre in New York were no exception. The fashion elite once again got suited and booted for the occasion, and as usual we were overwhelmed with the amount of exquisitely dressed celebs in attendance. Miranda Kerr championed the Womenswear Designer of the Year winner Proenza Schouler by stepping out in one of the label’s gorgeous creations, Kerry Washington brought some much needed colour to the proceedings by arriving in a striking yellow Jason Wu dress, and Nicole Richie brought the shine in a metallic Marc Jacobs dress. Sofia Vergara never lets us down on a red carpet, and we don’t think she’s going to start any time soon. She wore a floor-length emerald green gown with her finest assets proudly on display – the stunning Lorraine Schwartz statement necklace certainly brought even more attention to them! Take a look at some of our best-dressed ladies from last night’s CFDA Awards and let us know who gets your vote! It was a big night for fashion yesterday, as the 2013 CFDA Awards took place at the Lincoln Centre in New York. Although all of the awards are highly coveted, the biggest gong of the night is always Womenswear Designer of the Year… last year it went to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen for The Row, but this time round it was won by Proenza Schouler! Proenza boys Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough beat off stiff competition from Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang, so huge congrats to them for their amazing achievement. Other big winners of the night included Oscar de la Renta, who was given the Eleanor Lambert Founders Award, Vera Wang who got the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, and even Colleen Atwood (she made costumes for Snow White and the Huntsman and Alice in Wonderland), who got the Board of Directors Tribute Award. Riccardo Tisci scooped the International Award, Phillip Lim won the accessories prize for 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Thom Browne got the Menswear Designer of the Year accolade. Phew – it’s safe to say that there were a lot of happy designers last night, and very worthy winners too! Congrats to everyone! Do you think the right people won?

On first glance, we’re actually pretty impressed with what the 22-year-old singer has to offer! What do you think of her efforts? Do you think she got some fierce posing tips from new BFF Cara Delevingne? A cute selection of blinding white and cooler grey Superga trainers are well and truly on display in the spring/summer 2013 ad campaign images, as are an abundance of musical props – no doubt to make the ads more personal to their new brand ambassador. We wonder how much input Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen – who were recently named creative directors of the Italian brand – had in the concept of the shoot… [Telegraph] [Images]

Read MoreUlyana Sergeenko brings drama to the Dior AW13 front row
We can always count on Ulyana Sergeenko to mix things up on the front row, and the Christian Dior Paris Fashion Week show was no exception. The Russian fashion designer always provides us with some of the most eccentric – but never ill informed – looks, most of which some in the most luxurious and unaffordable forms. Ulyana rocked up to the Dior show wearing the voluminous cobalt blue printed skirt fresh from the most recent Couture runway, and accessorised with a plain black top, and a very dramatic veiled black fascinator. Some might argue that she wouldn’t have seen much with the veil in her face, but then again, fashion royalty such as Miss Anna Wintour and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen seldom attend a front row without their darkest shades covering their eyes… Do you like her front row look or do you think it’s attention-seeking and distracting?

The penultimate day of New York Fashion Week saw the debut of autumn/winter 2013 collections from the likes of Marchesa, Michael Kors, Reed Krakoff, Anna Sui, Proenza Schouler and Elizabeth and James among others. We love a good Marchesa collection – and we bet big-name A-listers like Blake Lively and Sofia Vergara always watch intently predominantly for the purpose of scoping out their next red carpet outfit. We think they’ll find quite a few lust-worthy gowns to cater to their tastes… who’s your money on for donning that red dress above? Having gone for the sophisticated modern woman look for their The Row collection a few days earlier, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen went for the toned down, relaxed, casual girl about town look for sister line Elizabeth and James. The loose-fitting and oversized pieces are still in keeping with the twins’ personal styles though, so it’ll be interesting to see how they incorporate them into their own looks. We’re officially on street style stalking mode! Michael Kors went for something a little bit different for his latest offering. To quote the show notes: “You are fast-paced, athletic, and chic. You race all over from the Lower East to the Upper East Side…Make them die with envy!” Yep, we can see where he’s coming from! Michael Kors Reed Krakoff Elizabeth and James Proenza Schouler Anna Sui

Another day at New York Fashion Week, and another infusion of stunning and versatile autumn/winter 2013 collections hitting the runway. We bet Zac Posen was feeling the pressure this season now that his profile has been raised since becoming a judge on Project Runway, but he definitely didn’t crumble under it. The A-listers and their stylists love a good Zac Posen dress for those big red carpet events, and we’re pretty convinced they’ll be able to find more than a few pieces to choose from in this collection. The orange one in particular is doing it for us, and hope someone will pick it out for an upcoming event in the near future. Elsewhere in New York, Donna Karan showcased her eponymous mainline collection, which was worlds away from the younger DKNY line which she debuted a few days earlier. The collection was a bit of an homage to her own pieces back in the day (think 1980s!) but the designer also ran with the winter weather theme given the amount of fur that came out. If the fur-loving Olsen twins didn’t have to pimp out their own clothing line, we bet they’d step out in pieces from this collection every single day if they could. And speaking of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, the twins presented yet another beautiful collection for their The Row clothing line, with incredible attention to detail in each and every piece. Just in case you weren’t sure about the mustard trend, this picture of Cheryl Cole rocking a skin-tight dress (from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s clothing line The Row) in the tasty colour should help you make your minds up. The Geordie pop princess attended fellow Girls Aloud member Kimberley Walsh’s birthday at London’s swanky Zuma restaurant, but left the birthday girl and other band-mate Nicola Roberts in the shade with her outfit choice. Not only was her dress in a very on-trend autumnal colour, but it was leather and skin-tight, which means it had the potential to be very unforgiving. Luckily for Cheryl, her body is tighter and more enviable than ever, which is why the whole look worked so flawlessly. We love the gothic lippie too – is there anything the girl can’t pull off? And what’s that we see on her feet? Nude shoes? Looks like someone was paying close attention to yesterday’s midweek moodboard… Do you think Cheryl looks magical in mustard? [Image]

A lot of our personal favourite designers recently took to the New York Fashion Week catwalks to show the world what they’ve cooked up for the spring/summer 2013 season. Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen presented their The Row collection in an intimate setting, as did Kate Middleton’s go-to designer Jenny Packham. J Crew, Oscar de la Renta and Badgley Mischka’s offerings also went down a storm in the MFL office and we’ve selected a couple of key looks from each designer for you to get the gist of what your wardrobes are going to look like next year. Mark Badgley and James Mischka’s vision for Badgley Mischka’s new season was a dream – literally. The models floated down the catwalk with their pixie, fairy-princess-inspired hairstyles (think Tinkerbell!) and romantic gowns. Awards-season worthy dresses for sure! Oscar de la Renta, the man who epitomises everything we think Awards Season should be, didn’t let us down with his collection either. He did however show his versatility by creating a number of different looks this season. If you’re a high-flying businesswoman who likes her fashion chic with a hint of edge, then we think this collection is definitely for you. The finale dresses were predictably out of this world!

We may be springing back in action after a weekend’s break, but there’s no rest for the wicked on the red carpet. Far from sunning themselves on the sand, Cannes Film Festival is still in full swing, and in case you haven’t been paying attention over the past two days, there’s more than your fair share of gorgeous gowns to catch up on. We’ve picked our favourite from the weekend’s glam ceremonies in part two of our best dressed guide. See the stars that made the cut in Cannes below… Clemence Poesy (x2) The chic French actress Clemence Posey attended the Pirates of the Caribbean premiere in this stunning sky blue dress. The colour looked lovely against her porcelain skin, the cut flattered her fabulous figure and the teal peep-toes completed the look perfectly – ethereal yet modern. Later, at Calvin Klein’s Women in Cannes party, Clemence proved her versatility and showed she can pull off short and sexy just as well. Wearing Calvin Klein (naturally), she switched up her style with this white shift dress, strappy sandals and big curly hair. Penelope Cruz (x2) Penelope Cruz chose a sexy figure-hugging midnight blue Stella McCartney dress for the Pirates of the Caribbean photocall. The colour is beautiful on her and we love the matching courts. With a figure and a head of hair that fabulous, she kept her jewellery to a minimum. Gorgeous. Later in the day for the premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean , the Spanish actress upped the ante in Marchesa. Flaunting her famous curvy figure, the intricate mix of delicate lilac tulle, heavy embellishment and ruffles made for a pretty perfect look for Penelope. Elizabeth Olsen If this actress doesn’t look familiar to you, she will soon. Sister to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Elizabeth is a rising star in Hollywood, and at the Martha Mary May Marlene photocall, she showed serious loyalty to her sisters by wearing […]

The latest bag from Yves Saint Laurent for Autumn/Winter ’09/10 has been unveiled , it’s the Roady, and it’s absolutely gorgeous. Already a huge hit with the fashion elite, Selma Blair, Rachel Bilson, Mary-Kate Olsen, Kylie and Rihanna have all been glimpsed gracing this glorious tote, and I must say, I’m pretty jealous. “Less is more” is an age old cliche, but the design gurus at YSL must have had this moto in mind when they created this master-piece. The Roady, made from beautiful butter-soft leather, features a small leather hook strap , perfect sitting snug under the arm or casually slung on the forearm, and offers space galore for all those handbag essentials. YSL offer the tote in red or black, but the black ruched Roady à la Mary-Kate and Kylie is my absolute favourite. Simple, subtle, relaxed sophistication at its best. The Roady retails at £735 for the patent leather, and is available at the Yves Saint Laurent store, 32-33 Old Bond Street, London SW1 (020 7493 1800).

As Victoria Beckham is carving a new career in the shape of a ‘professional style icon’, why is it that fashion writers and fashionistas alike are still asking why she continually gets it wrong? It’s certainly not the fault of the clothes – there was nothing wrong with the Giambattista Valli dress she sported some weeks ago, or the Louboutins she wears at every photo opportunity. Nicole Richie is so skinny she looks as if she’s just about to break in two, Mary-Kate Olsen just looks ill and Lindsay Lohan has already collapsed. Whether due to her weight we don’t know, but either way it can’t be a good sign. Yes, there has always been pressure on Hollywood women to look thin, and we always seem to go through periods where anorexia is constantly talked about and suddenly all coverage of the illness dies down. But now it’s been all over the media for quite a while and most of all it’s very scary. Not only for the young girls who look up to these stars but for the stars themselves. Richie and Lohan are bearing the brunt of it, with Lohan receiving a petition signed by 12,500 of her fans asking her to fatten up and Richie having to constantly defend herself, deeming her sudden loss of weight to her regular workouts with her trainer. There is no doubt that these girls are working out but there is also no denying that they don’t look well. According to the Daily Mail, the hourglass figure is back in fashion. Let’s hope so!
