Paris Fashion Week: RM by Roland Mouret AW09

I always look forward to seeing what Roland Mouret has in store for us. Beautifully cut, sophisticated dresses, are you kidding me? I live for his dresses and no one does effortless chic like Mouret, so of course I too was sucked into the allure of the infamous Galaxy dress as worn by every celeb starlet. Maybe that’s why I’ve been willing to let him off the hook for recycling his much loved formula ever since his major comeback to the catwalk. Showing for the first time during Paris Fashion Week (Mouret opted to show during Couture week for previous seasons) for autumn/winter 09 the French designer did of course cater to his diehard fans and offered up his signature dresses in gorgeous shades of emerald green and cerise.

Paris Fashion Week: Miu Miu AW09

Oh Miuccia Prada, is there nothing you can’t do? After sending out a fabulous collection for the Prada mainline, the style genius has worked her magic again on Prada’s little sister. With a Hollywood glamour influence, the lines were clean, sleek and of course very very stylish. Fur stoles were recreated to look thoroughly modern and the 50s esque pencil skirts were given a make over in metallic tiger like prints. This was a sexy collection, Miu Miu is usually the brand to be cute and quirky, but whilst still quirky it felt more seductive and grown up.

Paris Fashion Week: Valentino AW09

This was a lovely collection, nice lines, a good palette and pretty pieces. It was nice, inoffensive, wearable and classic. There wasn’t really a wow factor. It was just all very nice. Since Valentino retired the design house has been having a few issues, with a designer revolving door, the latest designer in charge is in fact a duo. Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, they had their first outing with the couture collection, so this is only their second. Well, you can certainly tell that they are verging on the edge of caution. Clearly, not wishing to rock the boat they produced a very safe collection. There were no bad outfits, and there were a few very nice ones indeed. I liked the tiered blue coat and I thought the colour scheme of jade, aqua, lemon, burgundy and camel worked nicely. The silk prints were perhaps the highlight of the show. Valentino is all about glamour and elegance and these outfits were elegant, and they had a 1950s charm to them. But they failed to captivate and were easily forgotten. They will certainly please those looking for a sleek evening gown or seasonless coat or suit. But it wasn’t a collection to get the pulse racing.

Paris Fashion Week: Viktor & Rolf AW09

One of the highlights of last year was the Viktor and Rolf exhibition. It was a magical walk through the story of their designs and told rather wonderfully through giant dolls. Well this Autumn/Winter 09 show continued their flair for the creative and sent down models painted as white as porcelain dolls in clothes that were startlingly beautiful.

Paris Fashion Week: Balmain AW09

For autumn/winter 09, Christophe Decarnin chose to present at Gianni Versace’s ex-location – The Ritz. Pounding the runway in a walk reminiscent of the supermodels of the 90’s (Naomi, Christy, Cindy and co.) the models (which included the likes of Natasha Poly, Anja Rubik, Sasha Pivovarova, Lily Donaldson, Erin Wasson, Lara Stone, Raquel Zimmermann and Carmen Klass) at Balmain were sexy and sassy. The collection was clearly inspired by the 80’s and featured lots of crystals, studs, metallics, black, and electric blue. Strong shoulders could be found on tuxedo jackets, mini dresses, pussy bow tops. Statement pieces included billowing trousers cut out at the front and an electric blue one shouldered dress.

Paris Fashion Week: Sonia Rykiel AW09

As if in perfect contrast to the paired back minimalism of Givenchy, Sonia Rykiel created a kooky catwalk of Paris Left Bank, 70s style and 30s glamour. Billowing trouser suits, quirky brogues, velvet, sequins and knits made up this collection. The colour palette worked really well, a blend of muted burgundy with burnt orange, charcoal, black and ballet pink. The layering was a key look for this show. But it was the masculine suits given a feminine edge that will give fashionistas something to think about. The oversized trousers won’t be an easy wear for those smaller in proportions but for those blessed with long legs they’re perfection. The dresses were particularly striking, the silk, sequin and knitted versions were all wearable and just that little bit different. With Sonia Rykiel it is all about her clever knits, and the loveheart jumper is a winner. The shoes and hats added to the eclectic feel and this really was an eclectic and dare I say eccentric show. The outfits are busy, but have a certain carefree optimism that is most endearing. Remember the velvets and the trouser suits because they will be looks you’ll want to recreate come AW09. This was quite a dramatic show, it played with volume, shape and fabric. It is one for girls who love to dress up and play with style.

Paris Fashion Week: Givenchy AW09

If you’re looking for a brightly coloured, happy, cheery Autumn/Winter 09 wardrobe then look away now. But if you want beautiful, architecturally designed outfits then Givenchy is the one for you. This was a space age show, right down to the Princess Leia buns. The cuts particularly the shoulders and trousers were carefully tailored sci-fi shapes. The fur dresses looked like something out of Star Wars and aren’t the most wearable of creations but they are still quite spectacular.

Paris Fashion Week: Gareth Pugh AW09

It was a video presentation as opposed to the catwalk for Gareth Pugh at Paris fashion week. Starring model Natasa Vojnovic and created by cinematographer Ruth Hogben, the powerful footage communicated clearly why Pugh’s dramatic collections are so appealing , they exude empowerment. And during a time when strength is oozing from the catwalks Pugh’s recent collection fits in nicely. Black of course was Pugh’s colour of choice. Dresses and leather trousers with spikes, high-waisted trousers, metallic dresses, long skirts and capes were all worn by Natasa with thigh high boots, as she moves to the music.

Balenciaga Lights Up the Catwalk at Paris Fashion Week

From London to Paris and Beyond: A Fashion Week Beauty Trend Report

It may be the dead of winter in most locations north of the Equator, but Fashion Week signals the beginning of spring for industry insiders and for fashion-savvy females everywhere. Held in New York City, Milan, London and Paris, Fashion Week provides top-level fashion houses and up-and-coming designers with the opportunity to show off their best efforts in anticipating the warmer temps to come. All across Europe as well as in the Big Apple, women eagerly mark Fashion Week on their calendars each year. Most of the looks on display on the runways during Fashion Week will never make it past couture shops catering to exclusive clienteles. Nonetheless, affordable interpretations of the most accessible pieces will make their way to certain online specialists that cater to women whose budgets may be limited but who nonetheless wish to maintain a sense of style. Some of the most anticipated trends for 2014 will be familiar to many; the classic look that never goes out of fashion is all the rage. Florals, of Course What is spring without flowers? An explosion of floral patterns will be everywhere, from flowing skirts to chic tops peeking out from beneath tailored blazers. Large, playful floral patterns will be found on dresses meant for garden parties and more casual occasions. More sedate florals will make their way to office-worthy separates. Even daytime weddings will be blessed with colorful blooms on bridesmaids’ dresses and sprinkled amongst frocks worn by guests. Solids that pick up one or more colors found among floral patterns are a cant-miss match for fashion-conscious but somewhat cautious women. Bolder females will mix and match florals and prints or florals and neutrals. To pull off this somewhat-daring look, at least one of the contrasting patterns should be somewhat more subdued to avoid overwhelming onlookers with […]

Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls kick off Paris Couture Fashion Week for Atelier Versace

You didn’t think a little thing like snow was going to get in the way of Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week did you? Ever the pro, Donatella Versace made sure her Atelier Versace couture fashion show went ahead without a hitch, and as a result we saw some fabulous items from the new luxury collection presented to us. We often look to the January couture shows for hints and potential sneak previews of what we can expect from the awards season red carpets, and we definitely see a fair few dresses that wouldn’t be out of place at the Oscars and other big-name shows. Apart from a few suits and a boyish jacket slotted in, the collection remained predominantly feminine and slightly more youthful and contemporary than we are perhaps used to, taking the focus away from the traditional eveningwear, and easing into daywear and partywear. Having said that, the evening dresses that were presented were just as attention-grabbing as we expected them to be – and it looks like the mullet style dresses are making a comeback! Versace’s couture collection was modelled by some of the hottest faces in the biz right now, including MFL fave Karlie Kloss, Joan Smalls and Stella Tennant among others. The FROW was pretty star-studded too, with the likes of Princess Charlene of Monaco and Olivia Munn watching the presentation intently, no doubt eyeing up potential pieces to wear. What do you think? Joan Smalls’ dress is our favourite – we desperately hope someone wears it on a red carpet soon!

Top 50 Fashion Designers In The World

Ever wondered who the top 50 fashion designers in the world are? Well, wonder no more. We’ve put together a list most famous fashion designers from around the globe. From past icons to current trailblazers who are setting the trends right now, here’s a comprehensive deep dive into the best fashion designers without whom the fashion industry just wouldn’t be the same. 1. Coco Chanel If there’s one iconic fashion designer who’s influenced the industry more than any other, it’s definitely Coco Chanel. She brought something new to the table, freeing women from the restrictions of frills and corsets, instead offering up simple, comfortable styles. And today, more than 50 years after her passing, her influence is still felt. Coco Chanel’s early life wasn’t an easy one, marked by tragedy and hardship. Her mother passed away when she was young, and she and her siblings had to be raised at an orphanage. Despite everything, Chanel was determined to make a name for herself in the world. Her designs stood out from the crowd, effortless and refined. She transformed fabrics that were traditionally associated with men’s clothing, like tweed and jersey, into chic, comfy pieces for women. The late designer will always be remembered for her creation of the little black dress, which is still a wardrobe staple for many. Chanel also branched out into the fragrance industry, launching her famous Chanel No. 5 perfume in 1921. She was a trendsetter in more ways than one, using groundbreaking marketing techniques to promote her work. And even now, you can spot her signature CC logo anywhere and to this day Chanel is one of the top French fashion brands in the world. 2. 1990’s Fashion: Sports and Heroin Chic

Heroin chic is a trend in fashion that is based on sickness, dark circles under the eyes, exhaustion, and other signs of drug use. It originated in the early ‘90s and mainly in the United States, when heroin use became popular in wide circles, due to the decline in its market value. At the same time, most people did not know how to get into rehab without insurance (https://addictionresource.com/drug-rehab/no-insurance/ would have definitely helped them), that is why the rates of deaths from drugs were pretty high. In the ’90s, it wasn’t about body awareness and healthy habits — half of all Americans smoked on a regular basis, the opioid epidemic was at its peak, nobody would go get treatment at rehab by choice.  At this time, a huge number of films on this topic appeared. You definitely watched or heard of such movies as Trainspotting, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Basketball Diaries, and Pulp Fiction, which have become iconic.  So, let’s figure out why after the ‘80s, when Princess Diana and Brooke Shields were style icons, everything changed dramatically and the trend was a slender physique and unkempt. How heroin chic appeared It all started with British photographer Corinne Day, or rather with her photo shooting with Kate Moss called The 3rd Summer of Love. It is important to understand that these photographs glorified the future photo model, giving a powerful impetus to the development of her career.  At that time, Kate was only 15 years old, but that did not stop Day from filming her half-naked with a cigarette in her hands. These photos instantly spread throughout the fashion community, appearing on the covers of many glossy magazines, including The Face. At this time, for the first time, the term Heroin Chic began to be used, which […]

Why Pearls Are Making A Comeback To The Fashion Scene

There are some fashion trends we miss: neon tennis shoes, flower power sunglasses, and bell bottom jeans There are other fashion trends that wouldn’t fade fast enough: halter tops, animal print hats, and bow collars. And there are trends that are resurfacing here and now, and we’re so glad to have them back. Jumpsuits are back, plaid is back, high heeled boots are back. Crop tops with high waisted jeans, short velvet skirts, and chunky heels are coming back into stores. One of those trends thankfully coming back to life is pearl jewelry – the definition of class and sophistication in accessories, made popular by the glamorous Jackie Kennedy and Coco Chanel. If you picture a woman who commands a room and takes her city by storm, you probably envision someone put together, who dons a striking black and white skirt suit and a string of pearls around her neck. Who wouldn’t want to be that woman? Pearls represent more than just being a classy lady. They have mythic representation as a sign of wisdom through intense and long work, a product of trial and error and difficult process. Their sheen is cloudy, which gives a mysticism to their appearance. The simplicity and shine instead of overt, unavoidable sparkle draws the eye in a new way, different from all other gems. So why now? What in our current society brings the pearl out of time’s shadow and back into the fashion scene? As with any good thing, people may have exhausted the use of pearls or maybe people started to see them as stale or too upper class. But bringing them back has reminded us of a time when things felt simpler and purer, before social media dramas and selfie sticks. A string of pearls can hold so many memories […]

Most Fashionable Cities to Visit

Fashion is inherently tied to culture and traditions, with certain societies placing more emphasis on fashion throughout their history. As a result there are some cities that can be considered more fashionable than others due to their shopping districts as well as the trends they ooze. While it’s very easy to keep up with the latest trends via influencers on Instagram, and to shop online and hunt for discounts or even try to get the best deal with Zalora, context is still incredibly important in fashion. If you don’t have a point of reference as to why certain styles work or how to combine various pieces of clothing, you’re missing out on a huge part of the industry. Hence why we recommend visiting any one of these wonderful cities where fashion is a way of life. Milan, Italy Was there really any doubt that Milan would be included in this list? This ancient city is home to some of the most recognizable fashion brands in the world and is where many revolutionary trends originated. Fashion Week in Milan is something that is looked forward to be the world since it is where the very best examples of designer concepts are presented. Anyone who considers themselves a fashionista will want to book a flight to this destination at least once. If you want, you can take a look at the latest Klook offers to help you out in this regard. Just because you are heading towards a fashion capital, this doesn’t mean that you need to deal with unnecessary expenses. Paris, France Naturally, what list of most fashionable cities would not have Paris as one of the names included? This historic metropolis is practically synonymous with style and elegance for many people. In fact, there is a certain flavor to French fashion […]

Top 6 Fashion Trends that Died in 2018: 6 New Trends That Will Take Their Place

Yet another year comes to an end and with it comes the time to say goodbye to the fashion trends that died in 2018. These fashion trends have experienced momentary stardom. However, they are now on the verge of being replaced by new 2019 fashion trends. Even though these fashion trends are out of style now, that doesn’t mean you need to arrange a fashion garage sale right this moment. As any fashion aficionado knows, what’s considered tacky and outdated now can surely make a dramatic comeback tomorrow. Right from ripped jeans to biker jackets, many thought-to-be-dead trends made multiple comebacks and some like fishnet jeans even overstayed their welcome. Here’s our advice. Instead of selling your outdated fashion stuff, get them professionally cleaned and vacuum-pack them. Unless you own a pair of tight-fitted, leopard-print pants. Those babies need to be burned and buried for good. Therefore, with a heavy heart and an emptier wardrobe, let’s bid these fashion trends a final goodbye. May they rest in peace. Real Fur Coats Who knew real fur would still be around in 2018. Yet somehow real fur coats and other fur-made fashion items survived the relentless demonstrations by PETA and animal lovers up until this year. So, what changed in 2018 that made this fashion trend go kaput. Well, the biggest setback for the pro-fur movement was the fact that many fashion labels announced their intent to go fur-free. Right from Versace and Gucci to Michael Kors decided that making fashion wear with real fur is not worth the negative press. With luxury fashion brands going anti-fur, the Paris Fashion Week this year showcased a slim selection of fur-made fashion wear. In fact, it’s safe to assume that Paris Fashion Week next year is going to be completely fur-free. Another win for […]

Valentino Closes Paris Couture Week AW18 With An Explosion Of Colour

We love Couture Week for it’s fantasy and escapism, of which there was no shortage at Valentino. Closing 5 days of unapologetic decadence, to say Valentino’s collection is absolutely stunning is literally an understatement. Complete with bold, colourful, extravagant gowns that would look right at home on Rihanna at the Met Gala, Valentino’s presentation featured 63 looks designed by creative director Pierpalo Piccioli. Hair was as big as it could be (as seen on Kaia Gerber), while extravagant floral headwear brought an added dimension of exceptional beauty to the collection. Inspired by an eclectic mix of Ziggy Stardust, Greek mythology, Pasolini films, 17th and 18th century paintings, medieval armor and photographs of Deborah Turbeville, the presentation was received warmly with a standing ovation and even Valentino himself shed a tear or two. Men’s Fall Fashion Trends

September is upon us and the temperature has dropped considerably, which officially means that autumn is here. With autumn comes an inevitable style transition and new trends to follow. We’ve teamed up with Trendhim to talk you through some key autumn trends and how you can incorporate them into your wardrobe. Orange Bright orange is the colour of the moment right now. Whether you choose to channel it through a double tracksuit and give a nod to the sportswear trend, or simply wear an orange beanie hat or scarf, this is one trend to not miss out on. Sportswear Sportswear is the trend that just won’t seem to die, and for good reason! Super comfortable and easy to style means that streetwear styles like luxe tracksuits and hoodies are still dominating men’s fashion, for inspiration look to Tommy Hilfiger and Supreme. Varsity styles are also coming back into style this season so head to your local vintage shop to get your hands on some college apparel t-shirts. Whilst we’re on the topic of vintage, 90’s sportswear like zip-up Adidas waterproofs are also great pieces to get your hands on.   Earth tones Looking back at the catwalks of London, New York, Paris and Milan from earlier this year, it was clear to see the dominance of earthly tones such as khaki, browns, camels and mustard yellows. Pantone, the authority in colour, also named their colour of the year as a shade named ‘Greenery’, showing just how popular and influential these colours have proved to be in 2017.   This is such an easy trend to follow as the colours are so easy to wear and versatile. Some great pieces to wear include camel and Burberry-esque trench coats, deep brown leather bracelets and hunter green sweatshirts. Military In a slight continuation […]

Victoria Beckham Strikes Again At Paris Couture Week #Obsessed

Her polished look was made complete with oversized sunglasses, a brown clutch and a shabby chic cream coat which we’re utterly obsessed with. With January being a month of austerity (after the carnage inflicted on our bank balance due to Christmas and sales shopping *sigh*), getting Victoria’s exact look is but a dream…however if you’re still on the hunt for bargain investment pieces, there’s still some pretty great items from Victoria’s collection on sale. We particularly love this silk and cotton turtleneck sweater and this striped wool-blend dress. [Image]

Driven By Style: Why The New DS 3 Is The Perfect Car For Fashion Lovers

To celebrate the launch of the new DS 3, last weekend I took a trip to Westfield London to see the luxury “avant-garde” car in all it’s glory and participate in a fun style challenge. Before I get into the ins and outs of the challenge I have to start by saying that the event space looked amazing. DS Automobiles took over Westfield London’s central atrium with various versions of the DS 3 Hatchback, Cabrio and Performance, an eye-catching installation with lots of bold and bright shirts and a huge screen playing the ad campaign which features our favourite 94 year old style icon and DS 3 brand ambassador Iris Apfel. Visitors also had the opportunity to participate in the campaign and strike a pose (or two) in a cute photo-booth for a chance to win a number of prizes including a styling session, a £500 Westfield Gift Card and use of the DS 3 for a week. Now I absolutely love Iris (she’s an absolute legend) so while I most definitely was looking forward to the style challenge, I have to admit, I was intrigued to find out a bit more about the DS 3 which has over 3 million personalisation options.  And I’m pleased to say I wasn’t disappointed at all. I completely understand the alignment with Iris. Known for breaking every single rule in the fashion book and more importantly for ignoring society’s norms to create a life of her choosing, the unique and stylish DS 3 is not only perfect for city dwellers but also for those who aspire to live life to the beat of their own drum. And with that in mind, the challenge was on to create an outfit inspired both by Iris’s aesthetic and the Parisian car. Armed with a £100 Westfield gift voucher and over 350 stores to choose […]

Where Do Fashion Wholesalers Get Their Inspiration From?

Fashion wholesalers must concentrate their attention on a range of different outlets in order to gain inspiration and to keep on top of the trends to give the customers what they want. Fashion is a very fast business and trends and styles can change rapidly, depending on both the seasons and customer demands. Fashion powerhouse Zara, for example, only produces half of its seasonal stock and leaves room to respond to the market. Not all trends will necessarily catch on in retail and wholesale industries and often the client will want more of something or less of something else. Other trends can be incredibly popular and stick around for more than one season. This is something that wholesale fashion suppliers must think about when getting ahead in the fashion industry. Fashion can be a tricky business and requires a strong attention to detail, especially when producing women’s wholesale fashion. There can be strong influences from a variety of different places that can inspire and push wholesalers in a certain direction, and here are just a few. Fashion Shows Possibly the most obvious point of call for anyone working in fashion when it comes to inspiration is the catwalk. Designers across the world showcase their designs and upcoming trends with hundreds of models in fashion shows from Paris to New York, for both summer and winter collections. This could be one of the biggest influences for fashion wholesalers and definitely worth taking note. Fashion Weeks occur in New York, London, Milan and Paris twice a year, showcasing Autumn/Winter trends and designs around February, and Spring/Summer around September ready for the seasons ahead. This would surely be the Mecca for fashion enthusiasts as high-end designers define the latest developments in fashion months before they are due to hit the shelves. On top […]

From Chanel to Dior – why Paris is still the heart of fashion

When you think of Paris, fashion is always the first word that pops into your head. The City of Culture is known throughout the world for its high number of artists and designer residents, from painters selling their work on the streets in Montmatre, to the designers working for the world’s most prestigious fashion houses. Paris’ vibrant creative scene is the reason so many tourists flock to the city every year, to live out their dreams of renting a little studio in the Latin quarter and spending their days walking along the Seine, or sitting outside coffee shops watching the world’s most stylish residents walk by, now being made available to tourists through Housetrip for short tourism trips. The city has been the centre of the fashion industry since the reign of Louis XIV. The King was very enthusiastic about fashion and encouraged everyone at Versailles to follow suite. He demanded certain types of dress for certain events and started the first Parisian guild of seamstresses, made up of women endorsed by his highness to make clothes. In modern times, famous Parisians like Coco Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Dior revolutionised the fashion industries of their eras. Coco Chanel influenced the way women dressed all over the world with her effortless and elegant clothes in the early 1920s, while Christian Dior invented the New Look after the war. In the 1960s, Yves Saint Laurent modernised the stuffy world of couture with his daring Le Smoking tuxedos for women. It’s a testimony to all three designers that their names live on as three of the biggest fashion houses in production today. Not only are their labels still around, but they are as desirable as ever. The fashion world still takes its lead from Paris. London, Milan and New York might […]

Discover your favourite cities in Europe at the weekend

People often talk about the world becoming a smaller place. This is thanks mainly to the travel opportunities available today that would have been simply unthinkable only a couple of generations ago. The Internet has enabled, empowered and encouraged people to not only book flights and accommodation but also research places to visit and compare prices to ensure they get the best value for money and the most active itinerary. Likewise, increased competition and variety within industries such as airlines and hotels have brought holidays like this into the financial reach of a whole new range of people. Increasingly, busy professionals with a free weekend and a bit of spare cash are realizing that with a little forward planning they can enjoy a mini holiday and go back to work on Monday morning with a range of new experiences to share. Planning a European city break If you really want to make the most of a weekend away in a European city, it pays to do a bit of planning. Here are some things you should think about before heading off: Compare prices. It is remarkably easy today to get the best value for money, simply by comparing prices of flights on sites such as Flights.com, as well as hotels and every other aspect of your trip. Do your research. While it is tempting to jump at the cheapest option, this is inherently risky, and sometimes you get what you pay for. Fortunately, the Internet has numerous review websites on which you can access independent, impartial reviews from fellow travelers. This will provide you with insight, including photos, of what a place is really like. Make an itinerary. As we all know, a weekend can fly by, and this is especially true when you are on holiday. To really make […]

Fashion Week front row tickets auctioned off!

Traditionally, the front rows of fashion shows are reserved for the A-list celebrities and powerful fashion folk (that’s your Blake Livelys and your Anna Wintours to name just two) – but that’s all about to change. Don’t feel like you’re out of the fashion loop if you see a few unrecognisable faces on the Milan Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week front rows this September, as some FROW seats are going under the hammer and will go to the highest bidder – whoever that may be! Watermill Center Summer Auction is auctioning off some Fashion Week packages, with all of the profits going towards the Hamptons gallery which allows artists to exhibit their work for free. So what’s in these exciting packages, you ask? Two front row tickets to the Prada and Giorgio Armani shows, as well as front row tickets and backstage access to the Fendi show. Can you imagine being a fly on the wall as Karl Lagerfeld preps his models just before they hit the catwalk? Such a privilege doesn’t come cheap though, as the bidding starts at an eye-watering $25,000. If you want something a little more, erm, affordable though, Miu Miu front row tickets for Paris Fashion Week are also going under the hammer, with the bidding starting at $10,000. Do you know anyone who might be interested in splashing the cash for a once in a lifetime opportunity?

Kate Hudson dazzles in embellished Armani Privé jumpsuit for Couture Fashion Week

We’ve always maintained that Kate Hudson could walk a red carpet and wow the crowd in her sleep. She confirmed that at the Oscars earlier this year, but just in case anyone had any doubts or simply forgot, she is at it again. The gorgeous actress, yummy mummy and fashion designer joined the likes of Chloe Moretz, Pink and Jared Leto on the coveted front row of the Armani Privé Couture autumn/winter 2014 show in Paris last night, and chose an exquisite jumpsuit from the designer for the occasion. To say she stood out on the FROW would be a huge understatement. The silhouette of the jumpsuit helped give off that classic effortless vibe that Kate does so well, while the embellishments which adorned the piece ensured it also had that “look at me!” wow factor. A simple, un-distracting top knot with a few loose bits of hair escaping and minimal jewellery completed her look perfectly. [Image]

Couture Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Christian Dior and Giambattista Valli

Forget festival style or shopping for that summer holiday – it’s all about the highest of high fashion this week thanks to Couture Fashion Week which is taking place in Paris as we speak. Or write. It was elegance as usual on the Giambattista Valli catwalk – it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out why he got his Haute Couture appellation so rapidly! The designer juxtaposed high fashion vintage glamour with a modern day relaxed aesthetic, which in a nutshell means everything from crepe dresses and understated boyfriend shirts to wow-worthy ballgowns from a different era altogether. The head wraps and bandanas were one of our favourite accessories from the collection as they can instantly transform an outfit; not to mention jazz up your barnet on a potentially bad hair day. Eccentricity was the key theme of the show – something which was more than evident from the pictures… “The secret of my girls is that they’re always eccentric,” the designer said. “They don’t play it, they are!” Raf Simons also didn’t disappoint with his Christian Dior Couture offerings; and it’s a good job too seeing as he had a huge A-list crowd sitting in the front row ready to be razzled and dazzled. It was a bit of a history lesson and catwalk show all rolled into one, as we saw pieces from many periods in time all come together, complete with different chapters, themes and even soundtracks. “I was interested in the process of finding something extremely modern, through something very historical; particularly through a juxtaposition of different themes,” the designer said in the accompanying show notes. “The historical inspiration is not the justification of the collection, it isn’t its entire meaning. “What I was attracted to was an idea of architectural construction – that is […]

2014 – 2015 Fashion Calendar: All the dates you need to add to your diary!

With so many fashionable events to remember month after month, we’re not surprised to find that some people are overwhelmed and sometimes forget important dates. If you forget your planner on the tube or you accidentally drop your trusty smart phone in the coffee pot then how are you going to remember those all-important fashion dates? Don’t panic, because we have the perfect solution; or rather, Diffusion Online does. Diffusion Online has created a pretty neat little infographic which you can see below, which references all the important dates and events a true fashionista needs to know to get through the year in fret-free style. And we don’t really mean little – it’s a pretty large and extensive list. We’re printing it out and sticking it on our office pin board as we speak. We might even go as far as saving it as our desktop picture, but that would mean removing Bradley Cooper and we’re not sure we’re ready to make that commitment yet… We digress! We almost forgot about Graduate Fashion Week kicking off this weekend, so it’s a good job we glanced at the infographic to remind us. Next month looks pretty exciting too, as it’s time for the boys to strut their stuff for Milan Men’s Fashion Week and Paris Men’s Fashion Week. The perfect time to plan a trip to Italy or France, if you ask us. From the Met Gala in May to the British Fashion Awards in December to everything else in-between, it’s all there! Which fashion event are you looking forward to the most?

Rihanna is Worst Dressed of the Week in Prada

After fashion killin’ it (‘scuse the pun) on the Balmain and Chanel front row, Rihanna took a, well, turn for the worse at the Miu Miu autumn/winter 2014 show earlier this week. Debuting a car crash of a look from the Prada autumn/winter 2014 collection, the far-from-bashful Barbadian paired this rather outré chill-blocker with a deep-cut, chevron-print sweater and thigh-high black stockings. As always, RiRi wasn’t short of an award-winning repertoire of accessories, pairing the look with black sunglasses, a statement ear cuff, purple neck scarf and a deep red lip. Black ankle-strap sandals and a healthy dose of the Take Care singer’s famed air-of-don’t-care rounded of yet another naturally eccentric front row look. But even a round-up of fitting accoutrements couldn’t save this look; there’s just too much going on here – even by Rihanna’s standards! So far this season, what have you made of Rihanna’s frenzied show appearances? Given her star is far from small, and top designers dress her all the time, is her attendance, or rather, lack of punctuality, at shows too much of a distraction? Has to be said, though: fashion month wouldn’t be half as much fun without the Only Girl In The World who’d dare to flash an ample amount of boobage, strategically covered with a fur snood. WATCH: Milan Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Giorgio Armani and DSQUARED²

Here it is, the last day of Milan Fashion Week for yet another season, and the King of MFW, or should we say it’s saviour, Mr Giorgio Armani, ensured that he gave everyone something to talk about. And it wasn’t just what happened on the catwalk – but more on that later. The collection – entitled “fade to grey” – did pretty much what it said on the tin; grey is the new colour of the season in Giorgio Armani’s world, with a hint of lime green added in there for a splash of much-needed colour. Cropped trousers, pleats, elegant evening dresses that wouldn’t be out of place on this weekend’s Oscars red carpet. We hope to see Cate Blanchett, who is the face of the Si Giorgio Armani fragrance, in one of the floor-length dresses from this collection. So what else happened at the Giorgio Armani show that ruffled a few feathers? Well it wasn’t something that happened, it was actually something that didn’t happen! Anna Wintour decided to give the Giorgio Armani show a miss and ready herself for the Paris Fashion Week action, and Giorgio Armani was very vocal about his opinions on it. He was less than happy, let’s put it that way! “There are some who prefer to snub the Giorgio Armani show and go to Paris,” he said at a press conference after the show. “She took an airplane, dumped Mr. Armani and went to Paris.” Ouch! Anna Wintour’s people tried to do damage control though… “Anna has the greatest respect for Giorgio Armani and everything he has done for Italy and fashion worldwide,” said Anna’s representative at Condé Nast . “Unfortunately, with the fashion calendar now running for more than a month, there are some shows that Anna is not able to attend.” […]

Milan Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Moschino, Fendi, Prada & more

We have no idea why Milan Fashion Week isn’t as popular as New York, London or Paris, because the latest collections to debut on the Italian catwalks were out of this world. We don’t think Giorgio Armani is going to have too much of a tough time getting support for MFW if the latest shows from Moschino, Prada, Fendi and Just Cavalli were anything to go by. Jeremy Scott’s first collection for Moschino was always going to be an interesting one, and we definitely think he met expectations and pulled a stellar collection – and catwalk show – out the bag! Jeremy Scott showcased everything from a revamped McDonalds logo to everyone’s favourite little underwater creature, Spongebob Squarepants, to all-else in-between. Katy Perry and Rita Ora showed no signs of a hangover – despite partying until the wee hours of the morning after attending the Brits – as they were the modelling guests of honour on the Moschino autumn/winter 2014 catwalk. The ladies stole the show as they strutted down the catwalk to take their well-deserved seats in the front row to watch the rest of the new-season pieces make their debut. If they ever fancy a career change, we definitely think they have what it takes to make it big in the modelling world! If we could take only two things away from the Fendi autumn/winter 2014 show, it would be the Karl Lagerfeld doll/handbag which Cara Delevingne (who was walking exclusively for Fendi, may we add) carried down the catwalk, Georgia May Jagger’s outfit. We love GMJ at the best of times, but her appearance on the Fendi catwalk was above and beyond anything we could have ever expected. Kaiser Karl himself described the Fendi collection as brutal and poetic, and we definitely got that memo given all the […]
