It’s nearly election time in the good old US of A (November 6th, fyi) and it looks like President Obama has got even more celebs on side as part of Anna Wintour’s Runway to Win campaign! Famous faces such as Beyonce and Sarah Jessica Parker have taken it upon themselves to help design pro-Obama clothes and accessories to ensure that the President stays in the White House once again. Beyonce and her mother Tina Knowles have designed some pro Obama baby onesies under their popular House of Deréon label (too cute!) while Sarah Jessica Parker teamed up with Tracy L Cox from Faster Than Paris to design a “Viva Obama” T-shirt. Ricky Martin also got in on the action by designing a tee that reads “Unidos”. Click here to check out all of the pieces, which also include contributions from Diane von Furstenberg, Rachel Zoe, Prabal Gurung and Tory Burch. Read MoreBest of 2011: Best ‘It’ bags
Throughout 2011 we brought you the best catch of new handbag launches before they even appeared as envy-inducing eye candy on the arms of the hardest handbag enthusiasts. We cooed over Mulberry’s string of successes, oohed at Rachel Zoe’s McQueen Folk tote and died when we saw Chanel’s boxy boy bags. We wanted each and everyone one we wrote about, but sadly our bank balance doesn’t quite mirror that of Paris Hilton’s, so we’re sticking to ogling at them once again by looking back on the best ‘It’ bags this year. Mulberry Tillie Classic, iconic, beautiful: the three words Mulberry evokes in our minds. 2011 was a huge year for Mulberry as it saw the brand turn into a billion pound company, bringing with it a billion dollar design bag to add the ever-expanding family; the Tillie. OK, so it’s another satchel, but one with beautifully distinct detailing (check out those trompe l’oeil buckles) and a long-term investment value thanks to its neutral hues and spacious insides. Proenza Schouler PS1 medium leather satchel We fell in love with this androgynously inclined bag for more reasons than one. Hands down a statement accessory in every wardrobe, available in a selection of trans-seasonal hues and finished in butter-soft leather, this satchel could never run out of style or space. And yes, we know it’s not strictly a 2011 launch, but our heart still skips a beat every time we see it. Nancy Gonzalez Croc Frame bag Think Nancy Gonzalez, think unabashed luxury. The Croc Frame bag found its way onto our fashion radar this year, not because of its extortionate price tags that left us envisioning a financial drought, but due to its especially rich scarlet colour and lavish crocodile leather exterior. The Croc Frame bag made us redefine the term ‘investment’ […]

Read MoreLi-Lo’s all-time fashion low?
We love Lindsay Lohan, we really do – but not for the right reasons, you understand. Despite all her run-ins with the law we have hopes that she’ll once again become the cute redhead who starred in terribly watchable films like Mean Girls and gave us something other than scandals to talk about – and it seems as though our wish may be coming true. She was photographed at a press conference in New York City to discuss the making of a new film Gotti: Three Generations that she’s in talks to star in. However, her comeback cannot be complete until she hires a stylist. Poor Linds’ outfit was nothing short of a disaster. The leather blazer is ill-fitting and bulky, and her shirt definitely requires a bra underneath – a saggy cleavage is at best obscene. And despite wide leg trousers being the hottest shape of the season, the sallow grey shade makes them look dull and dated. So come on Linds, get Rachel Zoe on the phone again. But firstly, please take out those ratty yellow extensions and dye your hair red again. In the words of Gretchen Weiners, “that would be so fetch.” [poll id=”83″]

Super celeb stylist Rachel Zoe has had the honour of dressing some of the most famous names in showbiz – Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan and Mischa Barton are all graduates from her styling school – but not all fair so well on their own without her holy guidance (the less said about Mischa Barton’s dress sense these days the better), and it seems Anne Hathaway isn’t ready to fly from the nest just yet. Ordinarily a ravishing red carpet darling – remember the eight outfit changes at the Oscars this year? (Zoe’s work) – we were truly disappointed to see her in an purple tasselled Gucci dress paired with big geeky frames better suited to Shoreditch than an LA premiere. We’re not crazy about the shoes, either, but our biggest complaint has got to be the brassy highlights and the lazy ponytail. Hit the bottle, please Anne… (that’s the dye bottle, guys). What do you think of Anne’s look: geek chic or a totally weak? [poll id=”81″]
Read MoreAnne Hathaway’s 8 Oscar dresses: which was best?
The pressures of hosting the Oscars – especially when you’re the youngest host in the awards’ history – must have got to Anne Hathaway’s wardrobe at the 83rd Academy Awards last night. With no less than eight outfit changes, she left little room for disappointment in the sartorial stakes, switching between a vintage Valentino here and an Aetelier Versace couture there thanks to Rachel Zoe’s styling assistance. Sure, she didn’t break barriers, but she name-dropped enough designers to be worthy of an Oscar herself. Here’s a breakdown of what she wore – let us know which look you loved best in the poll below. 1. Valentino Arriving on the arm of the designer, Anne arrived on the red carpet in a red Valentino gown – from the label’s couture archive, no less. 2. Givenchy Couture Taking to the stage to kick-start the ceremony, Anne chose an ivory chiffon gown with crystal embellishment by Givenchy Couture. 3. Lanvin From Goddess to guy, a quick change into a le smoking-style tuxe from Lanvin and crystal Brian Atwood pumps broke up Anne’s gaggle of gorgeous gowns (albeit briefly). 4. Vivienne Westwood Back to the ballgowns – Anne slipped into a black corset feather-printed tiered dress by Vivienne Westwood for her third look. 5. Oscar de la Renta He was missed on the red carpet last night, but Anne championed the iconic American designer in a metallic gold form-fitting dress with flapper-style fringing (which she demonstrated with a shimmy). 6. Atelier Versace Back to red – this time wine coloured – in a strapless floor-length gown with embellishment across the bodice by Aetelier Versace 7. Armani Prive Swapping shimmer for simplicity, Anne changed into a gloss-finished cobalt blue column dress by Armani Prive for her penultimate look. 8. Tom Ford In the ultimate show-stopper, […]

After the craziness surrounding the Christian Siriano, Chado Ralph Rucci, and Vivienne Tam shows (literally mobs of people were in the tents pushing and shoving trying to get in), the QVC event was a wonderful relief! It started at 9pm after the Tam show, the last of the night, and the music was pumping, the drinks were flowing, and there was some serious excitement in the air. Speaking of excitement, I spotted Zack Morris from Saved by the Bell shooting something for QVC — the man has not aged a bit — and the sighting and all the childhood memories it entailed totally made my week:) Later Rachel Zoe came in amidst a frenzy to show her new line for QVC and it was cool to see that she is exactly as she appears on her show. She seems very sweet and full of great energy.

I’ve been so busy these last few days it was nice to get out last night for some fun parties. I hit the town with my friend Christine who is visiting from Paris (she moved from NYC to attend perfumery school, so we had plenty to catch up on!). Our first stop was the Generra boutique opening in the MPD (823 Washington Street). Very cute boutique in an AMAZING location. Their clothing is also moderately priced given the boutiques in that neighborhood (think Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney). Unfortunately after the Generra event we made a little mistake.

Sooner or later Anna Wintour will be dethroned. The question is, “Who will be her successor? Andre Leon Talley could do the job with his eyes closed. But he’s just one year shy of Wintour and it’s more than likely that when she leaves the building, he won’t be too far behind. Rachel Zoe perhaps? Now that would be interesting. After watching the insanely addictive, Rachel Zoe Project, there’s no doubt in my mind that Zoe lacks the authority and organization skills required to push out a monthly mag.
Read MoreMilan and Paris: The cream of the crop
I’m suffering from a bout of fashion week withdrawal, so I spent most of last weekend sifting through footage and images from the shows, namely Paris and Milan. Looking back, this show season has actually been a blast..fast and fun and packed with lots of action. We had Bruno crashing shows, a model fainting at McQueen, and Valentino publicly sacking Fachinetti. Surprisingly none of the top stories had a thing to do with Marc Jacobs…aside from his fascination with skirts. Anyway..with fashion week still swirling around in my head, I’ve compiled my top 5 shows from both Milan and Paris, which was hard to do considering I had many favourites! Lanvin It would have been criminal not to include Lanvin in this roundup. Alber Elbaz outdid himself. The collection was colourful, dreamy, and to quote Rachel Zoe…”I die!” Gianfranco Ferre Aquilano and Rimondi did Ferre proud with this collection. I adored the use of shape and structure. Ankle skimming trousers made a number of appearances on the runway for SS09, but the duo did it best. Balmain Mixing 80’s (strong shoulders) and the 90’s (ripped jeans) Balmain was sharp and sexy! Louis Vuitton We’ve come to expect nothing but absolute genius from Marc Jacobs. For me, this collection was much better and more relevant than last season. Prada I have to admit this wasn’t my favourite collection from Prada but it was the most interesting. Who would have thought cropped tops with rumpled skirt suits could look so good? O.K so I know this was supposed to be a top 5 post, but I had to sneak in a sixth. I couldn’t not add Alexander McQueen. His SS09 collection was fun yet erotic, primitive yet sophisticated, and simply fabulous!

Read MoreVictoria Beckham: Less is more!
As Victoria Beckham is carving a new career in the shape of a ‘professional style icon’, why is it that fashion writers and fashionistas alike are still asking why she continually gets it wrong? It’s certainly not the fault of the clothes – there was nothing wrong with the Giambattista Valli dress she sported some weeks ago, or the Louboutins she wears at every photo opportunity. She’s got the figure to carry off almost any style (though the measures she takes to achieve it are somewhat extreme) and she was some steps ahead of the pack with her gamine bob. So what is it about Posh that is working against all the good work? Few took her fashion book That Extra Half and Inchseriously, despite the fact that it was actually penned by esteemed Guardian fashion writer Hadley Freeman, and Grazia continue to critique almost every outfit with savage wit.
Read MoreThe Stylists Code
I’m a hoarder. I buy loads of magazines every month, flick through, then read them back to back a couple of months later and NEVER throw any away. Which is why I just read L’Wren’s Scott’s interview with Vogue back in November, only last weekend. Scott is so private that the interview lacked personality but she did manage to get in a couple of subtle jibes at Rachel Zoe, although of course she mentioned no names. Her main gripes were stylists who talk about their celebrity clients, style their clients in their image and who get ahead because of whom they know. On one hand she has a point; she holds the old school mentality or rather the stylists’ code of conduct that one should not outshine one’s clients, one which Zoe shows no knowledge of. But when it comes to Zoe I do sit on the fence, mainly because at a time when the lines are so blurred and you have celebrities becoming designers, and vice versa, the old school rules aren’t completely applicable anymore, and I can’t seem to fault her for taking advantage of the blur. Yes her tactics are tacky, and her work is not revolutionary – although she single-handedly spawned her own trend in 2006- but Zoe is a business woman and with all the projects she’s working on, you have to hand it to her, she’s also a hard worker whom I believe is a stylist that is a product of today’s society that says to get any recognition for your work you need to style a celebrity, you need publicity, you need to be known! Read MoreTried and Tested: High Rise Hunter Jean by James Jeans
For someone who’s nowhere near a denim aficionado (I’m a tapered trouser kinda lady), I had my work out when it came to test driving some jeans as part of my job. Befuddled by the sheer choice of shapes, cuts and styles, after much deliberation (and research), I settled for the high rise, straight leg Hunter jean (a brave detour from my usual denim choice) by celebrity go-to brand, James Jeans (fans include Rachel Bilson, Hilary Duff and Zoe Saldana, to name a few). Highly impressed by the super-soft 9oz denim fabric, I was pleased to find that the Hunter jean was comfortably stretchy; far from the deceptive size 10 pairs I have picked up over the years that refuse to slip on without a fight! Being a high rise pair meant the Hunter jean sat quite high on my waist – I usually tend to opt for low rise styles – and I found the effect to be quite flattering around the hip area, almost ‘lifting’ my excuse of a derrière to new heights of visibility! But, my initial excitement was sadly short-lived, as when I opted for the high rise style I didn’t quite factor in the fact that the leg length would increase so much. Being an awkward 5’6.5″ tall with an inseam measurement of 27″ means I don’t have the Kloss legs needed to carry off the extra six inches of the Hunter, causing the jean to gather at my ankles. Being a straight leg cut means folding isn’t really an option, either! I also found that my chosen style gathered in an unusual way at the back of my knees. For me, a certified flats lovers, the high rise Hunter would spell disaster, as I would only be able to carry off this design in […]

Last night’s 82nd Academy Awards were full of memorable moments. Not only did The Hurt Locker pip the box-office smash Avatar to the post on more than one occasion, but Neil Patrick Harris (a.k.a. Doogie Howser) opened the event with a camp and surreal musical display of sequins and feathers and Ben Stiller dressed up as a Na’vi. Yep, he had the tail and everything. But before the ceremony began, we took a look at the red carpet to have a nosey at the stars to see what they were saying about their films… and more importantly, who dressed them. Here’s a few of the lovely ladies and the gowns they chose for 2010’s Oscars. Elizabeth Banks – Versace One of the best dressed of the night was Elizabeth banks who had previously hosted Oscar’s Scientific and Technical Awards the night before. Dressed in a risky grey Versace gown, Banks opted for a thin hairband with her up ‘do and peach-coloured eye shadow. Sandra Bullock – Marchesa Best Actress winner, Sandra Bullock looked every inch the Hollywood star in this glamourous number from Marchesa. It’s a bit too metallic for our liking but the hair and makeup round off the classic look perfectly. Carey Mulligan – Prada Brit newcomer Carey Mulligan has had some great red carpet moments recently and this one might just be her best yet. The black number from Prada features a flattering sweetheart neckline with a box pleat skirt that could have so easily ended in disaster. We couldn’t see closely enough but apparently, the dress is embellished with Swarovski flowers and knife, fork and scissor charms! Amanda Seyfried – Armani Prive We can’t help but think this Armani Prive drowned Amanda Seyfried. It also probably didn’t help that J Lo was wearing a fairly similar […]
