Rihanna’s menswear look lands Best Dressed of the Week!

She’s been all over the news recently (well, she’s never away from it, really), not to mention in some outstanding outfits, so it should come as no surprise that Bajan beauty Rihanna scored the Best Dressed spot this week. We told you earlier in the week that RiRi took to Westfield Stratford for the Christmas lights switch on, but it was her striking menswear ensemble that really got us excited (not to mention the hefty fee she was paid for her services!). Rihanna paired a sharp collared white shirt with a blue and grey, striped Acne top and matching trousers from the Spring 2013 menswear collection. The ever-surprising starlet topped off her look with a current season electric blue Raf Simons coat and grey suede pumps. Although she kept the signature popping red pout and fierce talons, we love Rihanna’s style chameleon approach to dressing, and how it is almost impossible to predict her next cool outfit. With fans rapidly replicating RiRi’s famous ghetto-luxe style, it’s refreshing to see her take on this masculine outfit with a fierce, ‘I-own-it’ kind of femininity. Props to your risk taking fashionable ways, Rihanna, and here’s to many more of the same!

Rihanna earned a cool £5 million for switching on Westfield Stratford Christmas lights…

That’s right ladies and gentlemen, Bajan pop princess Rihanna switched on the Christmas lights at London’s Westfield Stratford shopping centre last night, and earned an eye-watering £5 million cheque for doing so! Switching on our own Christmas lights on the other hand is quite a stressful task. After all, sitting there for the best part of three hours untangling metres of lights only to find out that half of the bulbs are broken and having to hunt for replacement ones before coming back to untangle some more isn’t a pleasurable experience. When you’re a celeb however, turning on Christmas lights is quite a glamorous affair; and if you’re Rihanna, it’s not just glamorous, but also extremely rewarding. We love how she kept out the blatant London chill with a gorgeous cobalt blue Raf Simons coat, and applaud her nod to the new-season fashions thanks to her multi-striped top-and-trousers combo hot off the Acne spring/summer 2013 runway. Rather surprisingly though, all of her outfit choices came from the menswear catwalks! Whether she’s flashing the flesh or covering up in clothes meant for the opposite sex, Ri-Ri always likes to keep us on our toes. Are you a fan of her look? Was she worth £5 million?

Sneak peek at Rihanna’s River Island collection

Details about Rihanna’s upcoming collaboration with River Island have been few and far between, but this morning we have a little treat for you. Or rather, Ri Ri had a little treat for us, as she tweeted a sneaky picture of herself wearing one of her very own designs from the collection. She tweeted the caption: “Me! Spring/ summer collection with River Island is in the bag! #designerlife #RIHverIsland”. We think she’s pretty excited about it, and we don’t blame her! And from what we are seeing, it doesn’t look like the collection will solely consist of skimpy outfits that we wouldn’t be able to wear without going on a strict diet and gruelling exercise regime. Result! We think it’s a very wise choice to put some chunkier items in the collection too – this is Blighty after all; definitely no need for skimpy California-style outfits over here. The full collection is slated to drop mid-November. Are you impressed with what you see so far? Rihanna’s Styled to Rock show axed?

Looks like we won’t be seeing a second series of Rihanna’s Sky Living show Styled to Rock here in the UK, as it’s reportedly been axed due to poor ratings. And the crew might actually be relieved to see the back of it, as rumour has it the production team found the scheduling to be a “nightmare” with all the celebrity guest appearances. Cheryl Cole, Katy Perry and Kanye West were among the guest stars… “Scheduling all these popstars with our filming schedule was a nightmare,” a source told the Mail Online. “Rihanna’s diary was manic, and to be honest, after it struggled for viewers it was always going to be difficult to get her to agree to do another series.” The poor ratings may have had something to do with the fact that the Bajan singer was only actually in three of the episodes – so her fans might have felt a bit short changed in that respect. Still don’t completely mourn the loss of the show, as it might be headed to the States to show on the Style Network. Henry Holland and Nicola Roberts may still make the cut for the American version, although Rihanna has almost definitely been dropped for the potential second series. Get Rihanna’s LA party look

We obviously can’t seem to get enough of Rihanna this morning. We had our first dose of Barbadian perfection when we clapped eyes on her November cover for American Vogue, and now we’re seeking style inspiration from her off duty looks, too. Obviously if the current temperature is anything to go by we probably wouldn’t be able to get away with this on the cold streets of London (curse you, weather-gods!) but we won’t let that stop us from trying to rock a similar look. Invest in a high waisted pair of grey shorts – you can wear them with a cute bralet a’ la Ri-Ri or layer up with a long blouse complete with lots of additional bling for a more daytime-approved look. We love the headscarf too – brings some more colour and texture into the ensemble, plus it looks fab contrasted with her jet black hair. Rihanna’s red hot Vogue cover finally revealed

We told you last week on Twitter that famed photographer Annie Leibovitz let the cat out the bag and revealed that she had respectively shot Rihanna and Anne Hathaway for the next two issues of American Vogue… and now Ri-Ri’s November cover has finally been unveiled. This is the second time the saucy Bajan songstress has graced the cover of the fashion Bible, but it’s just as, if not more, captivating as her debut. (Click here to refresh your memory! Oh and don’t forget she also wowed on the cover of British Vogue too…) Rihanna rocks red like a pro, so kudos to the stylists for choosing the beautiful Valentino dress – it’s utter perfection! Rihanna and Justin Bieber to perform at this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

Amazing news for Rihanna fans this morning as she has just confirmed that she’ll be performing at the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show later this year! How good is that? The Bajan singer will reportedly be singing two songs, one of which is expected to be her new track Diamonds, and will be joined by Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars, although we’re not too sure what melodies they will be belting out yet. So while all the boys in the audience will be entertained by Ri-Ri and the gorgeous Victoria’s Secret Angels, the ladies will also have some form of eye candy to gaze at too. The lineup is looking pretty strong, although we thought Nicki Minaj, Adam Levine, Kanye West and Jay Z were amazing last year too. The show will take place next month in the good old US of A, but will be televised all around the world. We’ll keep all you Brits updated with details on when and where to catch the show. [Vogue]

The Fash-off! Rihanna vs. Jessica Alba

One is the official queen of off-duty dressing; the other is better known for a daring, yet questionable approach to ‘personality projection’ through her sartorial choices. We could only be talking about Jessica Alba, oh, and Rihanna. This week’s fash-off (or should we say cas(ual)-off) sees the two beauties go head-to-head in considerably low-key outfits  – well that’s definitely low-key for RiRi, after what she landed in at Heathrow Airport! Vivacious wardrobe queen, Rihanna, was papped out in London in a complimentary logo-ed Kenzo ensemble, denim cut-offs, Opening Ceremony ‘Mary Ellen’ boots and her fave Gucci USA GG Flag Collection Boston Bag. On the other hand, Jessica Alba was spotted strolling around LA in a pair of – what are fast becoming her signature staple – Current/Elliott black stiletto Wildflower jeans, a casual blue tank and Surface to Air strappy sandals. Here’s what we thought… Fashion News Ed, Maria says: Rihanna’s been dressing a bit erratically lately, and I’m less than impressed with the cannabis jumper she wore as she touched down in London a few days ago, but I do actually really like this look. It has that whole “I just threw this on – and what?!” thing about it, without looking like she got dressed in the dark while hungover. Rihanna lands in London wearing a cannabis jumper

Although Rihanna has just touched down in London to reportedly work on her upcoming River Island collaboration, it was the outfit she arrived in that got the most attention. The Barbadian popstar opted for a casual and comfortable airport look as she arrived in the Capital wearing a black skirt (very daring for most, but quite modest for Ri-Ri) paired with some Converse, but her jumper isn’t quite as innocent as some might have initially thought. Rihanna’s red jumper, made by the Diamond Supply Company, features a black and white image of someone rolling a joint; and it isn’t the first time the singer has been glamourising the drug either, as just last month she was spotted wearing a t-shirt that portrayed a woman rolling a joint in “six easy steps”. We have amazing news to kick-start your day: Rihanna is designing a collection with British high street store River Island for the spring/summer 2013 season! “I’ve been wanting to design my own collection for some time,” said Rihanna. “River Island is the perfect partner for me to collaborate with and working with a British, family run business also really appealed to me. “I find London really inspiring and River Island loves to have fun with clothes. I’m looking forward to working with them and creating something really special.” The Barbadian saucy songstress has already dipped her toe in the designing pool by creating two collections with Armani, so we can’t wait to see what she comes up with next. WATCH the trailer for the Rihanna/Henry Holland/Nicola Roberts fashion show

After months and months of waiting patiently, we can catch a first glimpse at that fashion reality show that Nicola Roberts, Henry Holland, Rihanna and her stylist Lysa Cooper will all be starring in. The show, which is pretty much like Project Runway, is called Styled To Rock, and will air on Sky Living next month. It will give budding designers the chance to dress a celebrity guest judge every week, with one contestant being eliminated each time. Unless there are any shock double evictions to keep the contestants on their toes… oooh, the drama! Interestingly, one of the grand prizes for the winner included the opportunity to dress Rihanna at last Sunday’s Wireless Festival… therefore, the designer has technically already been exposed. We’re going to take another look back at all of Rihanna’s outfits and start guessing which outfit was the Styled to Rock one. Try and see if you can figure it out too! Rihanna is white hot and “uncensored” for Harper’s Bazaar August

We’re used to seeing the racier side of Rihanna these days, so it was a very welcome change to see her looking angelic and innocent on the cover of the Harper’s Bazaar US August issue. The Barbadian singer is posing in some of the sleekest new season pieces in the editorial too, from the likes of Emporio Armani (naturally), Balmain, Alexander Wang and Tom Ford. This definitely has to be one of our favourite Rihanna magazine photoshoots we’ve seen in years. We love her glowing bronzed skin, raven locks and barely there make-up; we think photographer Camilla Akrans, stylist Mel Ottenberg and make-up artist Mylam Morales worked seamlessly together to really capture Ri-Ri’s innocence. We’re also very intrigued by the “Rihanna uncensored” headline… we thought Rihanna was already as uncensored as they come, so really looking forward to finding out more. [Images]

Ok, you caught us, we’ll fess up – we are finding it extremely difficult to not gush about Blake Lively every single day. We knew her Savages promotion would mean that we’d see a lot more of her on the red carpet and we’d have to refrain from writing about her every single day, but we didn’t know she was going to make it so gosh darn difficult for us. But it’s ok, we found ourselves a loophole. Where there’s a Blake there’s a way… or something to that effect. We noticed that both Blake Lively and Rihanna were rocking red trouser suits these past couple of days, so we thought we’d present you guys with the pics and ask you for your verdict! Blake arrived at Good Morning America in a striking red tux by Michael Kors; an unpredictable choice but one which we utterly adore! Look how chic she is! Rihanna, another frequent lady on our celebrity style radar, also turned up the heat in a red hot tux! The Bajan singer went for a red and pink Acne trouser suit right here in London. Rihanna in Adam Selman at the ‘Battleship’ LA premiere swoops Best Dressed prize

For today’s Best Dressed of the Week, fashion’s very own rebel gives us a lesson, or two, in how to do white with an overspill (note: not overkill) of sex appeal! Rihanna took to the red carpet for the LA premiere of  ‘Battleship’ in a gasp-inducingly crisp white Adam Selman (the man who designed Riri’s outfits for her Loud tour) halter gown. When we laid eyes on this red carpet look, it’s safe to see we were style-struck! The stark white of the gown against Riri’s toned and glowing bod works a dream, and with a daring thigh-high slit, sits firmly outside of the BWD (Boring White Dress) category. The backless gown paired with the thigh-high split sure turned heads! Often, A-listers opt for ‘angelic’ looks when wearing white on the red carpet, but Rihanna is famed for dancing to the beat of her own style drum, and in true Good Girl Gone Bad style showed us how white is done, devilishly. Rihanna kept accessories to a minimum, opting for small hoop earrings, a statement ring, bracelet and white Manolo Blahnik sandals. Having gone back to black with her hair colour, we’re not too sure about the poorly styled side-swept hair (almost looks shower fresh!), but the shocking red pout makes up for it. A killer white outfit and red lips are the perfect power dressing partners, and, although we’re missing a sharp, padded shoulder suit here, Rihanna didn’t fall short of making a super-strong style statement!

This week’s Rate or Slate see’s a rather interestingly kitted out Rihanna, and the First Lady showing us why the fashion world sat up and took notice when she followed her husband into the White House. For the Battleship Japan photo call Rihanna went with a directional, all-black Givenchy Fall 2012 number – we can always trust RiRi to be a little different! Michelle Obama attended the 2012 Nickelodeon 25th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards in a Wes Gordon Spring 2012 tunic and metallic jeans (or jeggings, we suspect), whilst Tulisa was spotted leaving the BBC Radio One studios in a symmetrical, hyper print Topshop dress. We’re far too torn between these style choices, so it’s over to our Style Jury…. Fashion News Ed says: Rihanna: “Sorry Rihanna, you look like a bag lady here… love the hair though.” Michelle Obama: “Michelle is hands down the winner for me. I love how elegant and gorgeous the First Lady looked in what are possibly jeggings! Rihanna: The latest WAG recruit?

Rihanna is definitely going Hard. Residing in London for the past few days, she’s been a perfect reflection of the celebrity excess we mere mortals can only crave. Excessive partying, eclectic displays of personal style, house hunting in Hoxton and a whole load of inter-star mingling that had Kate Moss nickname the Bajan superstar “honey cups” – Rihanna really has coloured herself in the hue of London life. And, if her recent remark at footballer Emmanuel Adebayor’s 28th birthday bash was anything to go by, then our London hearts are beating so fast, major tube delays combined with out of order tube station escalators couldn’t even come close. While partying with the footie crew – where she turned up as a surprise guest – at London’s Aura nightclub, Rihanna said: “I wanna be a Euro 2012 Wag. This rocks.” Her words struck a chord with our love for fashion – WAG-inspired fashion to put it precisely. No, were not championing traditional WAG gear, but what’s the harm in a little improvisation when it comes to RiRi’s WAG wardrobe? We’d like to add, however, that if Rihanna does decide to embrace London as her home, then we’d want her to do it in her Good Girl Gone Bad guise, because that’s why we’ve really come to love her. Rate or Slate: Florence Welch vs. Pixie Lott vs. Jessie J vs. Rihanna

The glittering BRIT Awards took place last night, and as expected, lady of the moment Adele walked away with major gongs! Winning British Female Solo Artist and Album of the Year, Adele most definitely woke up to a multimillion-pound hangover this morning! Other big wins included Ed Sheeran, who landed British Male Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act. But that’s enough with the gongs; let’s get down to the style nitty- gritty and do what we do best. Being fashion people, we had our beady style eye and fashion radar antennae out in full force to track down the red carpet efforts, and whether these really were as good as the hit music makers they were supposed to be celebrating. Jessie J in Falguni & Shane Peacock; Florence Welch in Alexander McQueen; Pixie Lott in Dolce & Gabbana and Rihanna in Givenchy haute couture has got us into a bit of a sartorial muddle, as we sit on the fence once again. Thanks to Rihanna’s tour, we’ve had the company of the 20-year-old Barbadian for the past month or so now in Britain, and you know, we’re starting to get used to it. Rihanna rocks next season’s quilted Mulberry Alexa

  We’ll level with you, we love Mulberry. So, when we saw superstar Rihanna carrying the label’s latest quilted Alexa in Deer Brown from the AW11 collection on vacation in the South of France this week, we applauded the singer for yet another on-trend style choice. The What’s My Name singer worked the satchel with an ethnic-inspired maxi skirt, strapless top and statement necklace, proving that working laid-back chic for an everyday look comes as naturally to the superstar as shaking her behind. We can just about spot a pair of fabulous pumps peeking out from underneath that printed skirt, too. If, however, you’re not accustomed to working the heady heights of the heel in the day (especially when it comes to negotiating cobbles), don’t panic – we reckon a pair of this season’s metallic sandals will work just as well. Rihanna blends into the background in white Max Azria

We thought Rihanna was back in the zone after her recent Sideshow Bob bungle, but she left us a little disappointed us at the Billboard Awards on Sunday in her all-white ensemble which faded into the matching carpet. Rihanna chose a crisp white Max Azria suit teamed with a matching plunging blouse before her performance with Britney at the awards, and whilst we love the masculine tailoring on the singer, we think she could’ve done with a splash of colour. Her nude Louboutin pumps are chic, but we’d have preferred to see fierce statement heels to balance her fiery red hair. This is the girl that can wear Marchesa’s wow-ruffles and see-through Elie Saab, after all. But despite her fashion fail, we can’t fault her incredible performance with the refreshed Britney Spears.
