What happened at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2013…

The annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show seems to get bigger and better every year – and apart from the noticeable absence of Aussie hottie Miranda Kerr – this year was no exception. And much to our surprise and delight, despite reports stating that she was unable to walk in the show due to acting commitments, Cara Delevingne was there too! Happy days! We can’t imagine a VS catwalk without our Brit gals Cara and Jourdan Dunn. As always, the big event was the unveiling of the Fantasy Bra – and as we told you last month, the honour this year went to the stunning South African beauty that is Candice Swanepoel. Doesn’t she look incredible? Taylor Swift certainly didn’t disappoint us with her performance or appearance, as she got into the spirit of things by rocking out in a glitzy and very sexy mini dress, while also taking a leaf out of Cara Delevingne and Jourdan Dunn’s books and donning a British inspired outfit. Yesterday’s Bank Holiday Monday enabled us to stay up late on Sunday night and closely examine all the red carpet outfits from the 2013 MTV VMAS… and we know we weren’t the only ones to do so either. Akin to all great red carpets, the stars really brought their sartorial A games; we definitely felt a dress to impress theme going on. The Teen Choice Awards 2013 – the best dressed!

Is it really Teen Choice Awards time already? Time really does fly as it seems like only yesterday we were gushing about the sartorial choices of the stars of Young Hollywood. It’s all about the 2013 Teen Choice Awards now and once again the young stars really brought their A game on the red carpet. Gisele still Forbes Most Powerful model

The 2013 Forbes 100 Most Powerful Celebrities list has just been released, and once again Gisele Bündchen has found herself on top as far as models were concerned, securing the 81st spot. Pretty impressive considering how many models – iconic and up-and-coming – she had to beat off. Aussie Miranda Kerr came in at number 100. Unsurprisingly, Oprah Winfrey topped the entire list for the fifth year, but Lady Gaga came a very close second, with Beyonce securing the very respectable fourth spot. We can definitely see how those three ladies have influenced the world! Music queens Madonna, Taylor Swift and Rihanna came fifth, sixth and 13th respectively, while MFL fave actresses Jennifer Lawrence, Angelina Jolie, Kristen Stewart, Gwnyneth Paltrow, Emma Stone and Meryl Streep also secured places on the list. Cannes Film Festival 2013: Weekend highlights

Zuhair Murad had a pretty impressive run at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards at the weekend, dressing Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift and Emmy Rossum – and the designer showed no signs of slowing down in Cannes either, as Cheryl Cole strutted her stuff on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet in one of his stunning designs. Jennifer Lawrence stayed faithful to Raf Simons by donning a number of Christian Dior pieces for various appearances over the weekend, but our favourite definitely has to be the white number above. It brings out all of Jen’s wonderful features, embraces the spring/summer season (even though it came from the autumn/winter 2013 catwalk), and brings a modern edge to the traditional glamorous Cannes red carpet. And speaking of traditional Cannes… Nicole Kidman continued to wow the crowd with her sartorial choices, as she looked the epitome of chic, glamorous perfection in a floor-length L’Wren Scott number. And last but certainly not least on our Cannes best-dressed roundup is model Doutzen Kroes, who showed that it is possible to steal the show in simpler designs too – just look at her sleek white Calvin Klein Collection dress for proof. Billboard Music Awards 2013: The best dressed!

You didn’t think Cannes was the only place the well-dressed celebs flocked to over the weekend, did you? The red carpet (well, technically blue) was rolled out for the 2013 Billboard Music Awards which took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and the famous attendees certainly showcased their style credentials as they arrived in their finery for the event. Topshop Met Gala dresses coming to a store near you….

Today’s news is inevitably going to be dominated by last night’s Met Gala – after all, how often do fashion’s elite gather in New York for a prestigious night of art, style and glamour? (And in this year’s case – punk!) We told you a few weeks ago that some of the big name designer pieces were going to be up for grabs on the Moda Operandi website the very next day – that means you can get Taylor Swift’s J Mendel gown and Dakota Fanning’s Rodarte dress from today – but that’s not the only place to offer Met Gala outfits. The Met Gala 2013 – PUNK: Chaos to Couture red carpet roundup!

Forget the Oscars, the biggest, most fashionable night of the year is of course the Met Gala (or Met Ball, whichever you prefer) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, and this time round the theme was “Punk: Chaos to Couture”. This meant that there was an abundance of spikes, safety pins, short and fierce hair, and bags and bags of attitude… and the lucky A-listers who managed to secure an invitation to the prestigious event most definitely brought their sartorial A game on the red carpet. Celebs with short hair had a particularly easy ride as far as interpreting the punk theme was concerned as the likes of Karlie Kloss and Miley Cyrus really embraced it with their respective hairstyles. Sarah Jessica Parker didn’t let a little thing like long hair deter her from going all-out though, as she donned a fabulous Philip Treacy headpiece that was just as punk-rock as it was Carrie Bradshaw. Anne Hathaway finally got her Valentino red carpet moment this year – we definitely think she made up for not wearing his dress at the Oscars. We reckon she will be one of the hottest points of conversation, as she truly embraced the theme by channeling Blondie’s Debbie Harry and bleaching her hair blonde. The Brit Awards 2013: The best dressed!

There’s nothing quite like a good British award ceremony to warm us up for the prestigious Oscars that are taking place this Sunday! (Write it in your diaries and stock up on the coffee and popcorn – it’s going to be a long night and we want you to spend it with us!) Anyway last night wasn’t about the Oscars, it was about the one and only Brit Awards which made us very proud to hail from this fine nation! Musicians, actresses and generally all sorts of hot and glamorous stars from across the globe turned up to London’s O2 Arena for the 2013 Brit Awards, and predictably there were quite a few sartorial red carpet choices that set tongues wagging and pulses racing. Always a MFL favourite, Taylor Swift stunned the crowd in a jaw-dropping sexy black Elie Saab number, while Bond Girl Berenice Marlohe had a license to thrill in a wow-worthy gold Donna Karan Atelier dress. It’s a good job Jessie J wasn’t at the Grammy Awards, because the ultra-revealing Versace dress she chose would have violated every inch of the conservative dress code. Nice to see her making the most of her long, raven looks before she goes for the chop in aid of Red Nose Day. Good for you, Jess! The 55th Grammy Awards 2013: The best dressed!

Grammy time! The red carpet got rolled out on both sides of the pond yesterday; while the biggest acting stars in the world jetted into London for the BAFTAs, the singing sensations headed to sunnier climes (Los Angeles, to be exact) for the 55th annual Grammy Awards. We were looking forward to seeing what the girls ended up wearing, given the stricter dress code they had to work with this year. We expected a few of them to be rebellious and flash the flesh anyway (if you’ve got it, you may as well flaunt it) but they actually more or less behaved themselves… save for a few plunging necklines and J-Lo’s dangerously high slit dress. If you joined us last night for our live-tweeting you might remember that we got particularly excited by the arrival of pop Princess Rihanna, who stuck to the rules and went for a phenomenal red custom Azzedine Alaia gown, and music Queen Beyonce who defied expectations and went for a modern monochrome pant suit by LFW-fave Osman…  and totally working it, may we add! The Golden Globes 2013: The best dressed!

Snow may very well have been forecast here in the UK, but it was a totally different story across the pond, as the stars of Tinsel Town were well and truly scorching for the 2013 Golden Globe Awards. Next to the Oscars, this really is our favourite of the awards ceremonies, as it gives the stars from some of the best TV shows and films of the moment the chance to step out onto the red carpet and celebrate their greatness. Red was one of the key colours of the evening, with the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Zooey Deschanel and Claire Danes stepping out in varying hues of the shade. Despite colour being very prominent, we also had some cracking black gowns courtesy of Kate Hudson, Eva Longoria, Sofia Vergara, Adele, Nicole Kidman and Sarah Hyland among others. Paler dresses came from the likes of Lea Michele, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Hayden Panettiere, Megan Fox and Jessica Chastain. All in all, the Golden Globes 2013 were a roaring success on the red carpet hence our larger-than-average best dressed list this morning. Who was your favourite? The People’s Choice Awards 2013: The best dressed!

Hooray for the first official awards show of the year! The People’s Choice Awards have a little bit of everything – they gave glitz, they have glamour and best of all they have celebs from all walks of life coming together to celebrate their talent and generally have a good time. Any excuse to get dolled up and party, right? As usual, there was a plethora of beautifully-dressed ladies who graced the red carpet. Taylor Swift rocked up in a plunging white floor-length Ralph Lauren gown to show One Direction star Harry Styles what he’s missing… mission accomplished we’d say! We also had Lea Michele and Chloe Moretz attempt to turn heads in their respective attention-grabbing Elie Saab and Simone Rocha numbers, while Emma Watson was her predictable cute and lovely self in a short floral Peter Pilotto dress. Host Kaley Cuoco was pretty as a picture, as always, with the Christian Siriano dress she arrived in being our favourite of her many frocks of the evening. Style Awards: Top 10 best dressed celebs of 2012

It’s safe to say, 2012 has been a positively chaotic year on many accounts: stealthy fashion musical chairs; the news of a 2013 royal tot, surprise (read: secret) weddings and a fair amount of heartbreak ensued. But one thing far more exciting than all of these juicy prospects combined is the FASHION we witnessed. From Miranda Kerr’s uber-stylish taxi-to-hotel hop, all endless, perfectly bronzed legs and the hottest off-duty ensembles imaginable, to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s ravishing red carpet looks, not forgetting some equally hot lingerie! Diane Kruger left us in a state of fash-induced hyperventilation, thanks to that Christian Dior couture gown whilst Emma Stone really established herself as the unturned stone (excuse the sorrowful pun) of fashion: she.looked.HOT. From Tom Ford to Trapstar, Rihanna has us on trend-led tenterhooks with every outfit she stepped out in, and Alexa, well, she’s just too stylish to even discuss, right? It was the probably the hardest thing we had to do – alongside trying to remember to use Saint Laurent instead of Yves Saint Laurent, and digesting news of R-Patz and  K-Stew’s brief split whilst admiring her red carpet looks – but choosing our 10 best dressed celebs of 2012 was a limiting task. The Olsen twins and Alexander Wang among Forbes’ Brightest Fashion Stars

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are never far from a Forbes list at the end of each year, as the twin sisters who started out as child actresses have made themselves a nice little fortune (putting it lightly) with their business empire – a lot of which has been in fashion. Therefore it doesn’t surprise us to learn that they have been named in the Forbes ‘Top 30 Under 30 brightest fashion and art stars of 2012’ list. Congrats girls, well deserved as always. And now onto someone else who has had a pretty epic year in fashion himself… Alexander Wang. The list wouldn’t really have been complete without the designer who has been chosen to take over and potentially revamp Balenciaga would it? The American Music Awards 2012: The best dressed

The EMAs may have just been and gone, but it was time for another celebration of all things musical last night, as the 40th Annual American Music Awards took place at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. As predicted, the red carpet was full of beautifully-dressed stars not just from the music biz but from all walks of celebrity life. As well as the big musicians such as Gwen Stefani and Taylor Swift, the red carpet was also graced by the likes of top supermodel Heidi Klum and George Clooney’s gorgeous (and very lucky) girlfriend Stacy Keibler, amongst others. Although there was no dress code and obvious theme, the attendees kept things young, fun and flirty, with a definite nod to the upcoming festive season given all the sparkle! It was all quite understated, chic and beautiful, as even the likes of Nicki Minaj and Christina Aguilera swapped their loud, eccentric outfits for more conventional ones – and as a result, looked gorgeous in their respective gowns. MTV EMAs 2012 – the best dressed!

It was an exciting Sunday night, yesterday. Not only did we have the X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing results to deal with (do you think the right people left, by the way?) we also had the MTV EMAS to watch! And we’re kind of glad, because things got a bit tense thanks to those results shows! We’ve been looking forward to these awards ever since we found out Heidi Klum would be hosting, and she didn’t let us or her country down! Although we loved all of her many outfit changes (there was a lot of Versace!) our favourite was definitely the blue Versace she sported on the arrivals red carpet. Paris Fashion Week SS13 highlights – Part 4

Hakaan drama aside, Paris Fashion Week has continued to go on without a hitch, as gorgeous collections from Stella McCartney, Chloe, Givenchy and Chanel recently made their way down the runway. We even had Hedi Slimane’s debut collection for Saint Laurent Paris (formerly YSL) to look forward to. Paris Fashion Week isn’t Paris Fashion Week without a lavish Chanel show at the Grand Palais. We sometimes think there are only so many ways one can rework the iconic tweed jacket, but every season Karl Lagerfeld seems to find something new. Kaiser Karl has once again excelled, putting on a flawless collection that is the perfect mix of classic Chanel and modern, contemporary femininity. And as self-confessed bag addicts, we were particularly drawn to the pieces of arm and shoulder candy this season, especially the hula-hoop and leg-inspired bags. The oversized pearls also went down quite well with us – we do love statement bling! Elsewhere in Paris, the Chloe and Giambattista Valli shows took place, once again reiterating what we said about exaggerated silhouettes being key to the new season. Even though this isn’t a Couture collection, we kind of expected some big, bold and beautiful dresses to come out towards the end of the Giambattista Valli show (after all, they are the designer’s forte) but that didn’t happen this time round. Still, Giambattista’s exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail is still evident even in the simplest of pieces, which proves just why he gained that all-impotant Haute Couture appellation so early on. A round up of the best dressed celebs at the MTV Video Music Awards 2012

Could there have been any more events that went on last night? Not only were some of the biggest and most stylish cities in the world taking part in Fashion’s Night Out, the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards were also happening in Los Angeles. As well as providing celebs another excuse to glam up, get merry and enjoy each other’s company, the VMAs are to celebrate music and the great videos that come with it. However, that’s not to say that the fashion is any less fabulous. Therefore it should come as no surprise to learn that the red carpet was bursting with stylish famous faces, with the likes of Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and Emma Watson sitting pretty on our best dressed list. There was no obvious recurring dress theme this time around, but it’s safe to say that the girls and boys dressed to impressed. It was tough to narrow down our favourites this year, but we’ve tried our best – and don’t forget to have your say in the poll at the bottom! CoverGirl signs Janelle Monáe

Congrats to Janelle Monáe this morning, as it’s just been revealed that she will join the gorgeous Taylor Swift and Sofia Vergara as the face of CoverGirl. “I believe it’s time that women truly owned their superpowers and used their beauty and strength to change the world around them,” the singer said. “One of my core values is to help redefine what it means to be a strong and beautiful woman in the music and fashion worlds and to empower the wonderful things that make us unique.” “Becoming a CoverGirl is truly an honor and a gift: it opens up a new platform for me to inspire women to feel stronger, braver and more beautiful inside and out.” From what we can see in the behind-the-scenes pic above, it looks like Janelle’s trademark “black tie” look has been worked into the ad campaign. We don’t think it would feel right if her signature style was absent. Janelle’s ads are set to drop in September, so not long to wait! The Teen Choice Awards 2012 – the best dressed!

We’ve been having serious award ceremony withdrawal symptoms, so we are really grateful to the Teen Choice Awards for popping up during an awards ceremony drought. We waited with baited breath for some of our fave Teen Choice starlets to arrive – the likes of which included X Factor judge Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, Lea Michele and Zooey Deschanel – and as predicted, we weren’t disappointed. As you can imagine, the girls made the most of the theme of the occasion (and the fab weather) and dared to bare, with the majority of them flashing their bronzed and enviable pins in fun, flirty and fashion-forward dresses. Kristen Stewart was one of the only ladies who kept her legs under wraps (for a change!), opting to wear leather trousers and a chic printed Roberto Cavalli jacket instead. Miley Cyrus launching clothing line

Miley Cyrus is launching a cut-price clothing line. The ‘Hannah Montana’ star has teamed with Herve Leger designer Max Azaria for the fashion range, which will be sold exclusively in US chain store Wal-Mart. Speaking about ‘Miley Cyrus and Hank Azaria’ – which includes graphic print t-shirts, tops, trousers and accessories – the singer-and-actress wrote on her Twitter page: ‘It’s soooo cute Very rocker and hey who doesn’t want a great deal!!! ‘i love u guys! I’m so exited to share this wit u. (sic)’ The range, all priced under $20, will hit stores in August Miley promises there will be another collection to follow it. The 16-year-old actress told MTV: ‘I love creating looks that are all about personal expression and individuality. Working with Max Azria has been an amazing experience, and I’m really excited about launching this line with Wal-Mart. Lupita Nyong’o showcases her modelling talent in Vogue Italia’s February issue

We love Jennifer Lawrence for her ability to deliver strong, Oscar-winning performances and crack us up with her random bursts of energy and hilarious antics all at the same tine… and it looks like she has some competition from Lupita Nyong’o this year. Not only are the two girls up for the same Best Supporting Actress gong at this year’s Academy Awards, but we thin Lupita might be after Jen’s versatility/comedy genius crown too. Take her pics in Vogue Italia‘s February issue for example. Versatility is the key word in Lupita’s Tom Munro lensed Vogue Italia shoot; one minute she is pouting like a pro, the next she is all smiles like a sweet girl next door, and the other she is leaping in the air while maintaining her fierce modelling pose. We’ve watched enough of The Face and America’s Next Top Model to know that those jumping shots are not easy! Now all we need is for Lupita to make her finest and fiercest “roar” face like in the pic above while standing behind a singing sensation and then she will have officially reached J-Law status!

Following her stunning white feathered Marchesa look at the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards on Sunday, Rita has stepped out in yet another icy white ensemble at the Harper’s Bazaar Woman of the Year Awards at Claridge’s in London. This time round, the singer and multiple ad campaign star wore a gorgeous Ermanno Scervino dress from the designer’s autumn/winter 2013 collection – accompanied with a fresh platinum blonde hair colour. She certainly takes a theme and runs with it, doesn’t she? The pure white colour of the dress was juxtaposed rather dramatically with Rita’s bold black eyes and deep red lippie, so there was no chance of her being washed away or blending into the background.

Why 12 magazine’s ‘Victim of Beauty’ editorial fails to shock…

We’re all accustomed to seeing rather disturbing imagery and advertising campaigns that highlight the plight of victims of domestic violence, child abuse, and poverty and horrific crimes such as rape and although we take note of the message being conveyed, we rarely bat an eyelid or wail out in retaliation against what we see. Yet when a beauty spread in Bulgarian publication, 12, featured six stunning models with serious injuries to various parts of their face, including black eyes, cut lips and slit throats, certain Samaritans jumped on the ‘glamorising domestic violence’ bandwagon and did nothing but viciously, and rather ironically, attack, attack and attack. Admittedly, when I first came across the ‘Victim of Beauty’ editorial, I did indeed find the images harrowing and found myself taken aback by the graphic nature and upsettingly real depiction of what a victim of severe brutality looked like. Severe brutality, may I stress. Not just the subject of a wife-battering, or any other form of domestic violence. That’s not to say the injuries in the editorial aren’t comparable with those sustained by unfortunate victims of this sad reality, but, at first glance I immediately saw a woman who was possibly mugged, randomly attacked by a savage passer-by, or someone who had escaped something as dark as kidnap. Not at any point did it occur to me to reinforce cultural stereotypes by instantly assuming these women had solely suffered at the hands of their partners. So I ask: why so much angst for something that depicts reality? Think back to the over- airbrushed images of superstars and models such as Julia Roberts and Christy Turlington in dreamy beauty ads that make headlines because they depict unreal beauty.
