J.W Anderson and Simone Rocha win BFC/Topshop NEWGEN sponsorship

Every year it looks like the competition for the BFC/Topshop NEWGEN sponsorship gets tougher and tougher, but the big winners this time round are none other than J.W Anderson and Simone Rocha! Congrats to them! “The NEWGEN bar is set so high: to qualify, designers must prove their originality, excellence and openness to learning how to take first steps in businesses,” said Sarah Mower, a spokesperson for the NEWGEN committee. “This season’s winners are a snapshot of what London is now – a varied group of vivid individualists, from many countries. They’re a brilliant reflection of the energy of a city which enables so many talents to settle and shine.” J.W Anderson and Simone Rocha will therefore receive financial support for their autumn/winter 2013 collections this February, and will have the honour of showcasing their work at the BFC Show Space. We can’t wait to see what they come up with – February isn’t too far away, so not long til we find out! [Telegraph]

Watch Kate Bosworth star in Topshop’s Winter Wonderland interactive Christmas campaign

High street fave Topshop has just released its first ever Christmas film – a 360 degree interactive digital campaign featuring the one and only Kate Bosworth! For the past five days, the Twittersphere and overall blogosphere has been buzzing with speculation about who the mysterious campaign star could be, as Topshop has been sneakily releasing pics of Kate in various locations with her face blurred out. People were invited to guess the identity of the mysterious star by using the #whosthatgirl hashtag for a chance to win a £500/$1000 Christmas shopping spree. Did you get it right? The film features Kate Bosworth performing the classic Christmas tune Winter Wonderland wearing a custom-made evening dress that she designed with the high street store. “This project brings together two important aspects of my life: cinema and fashion,” Kate said in the press release. “I have always been a fan of the Topshop brand and it has been an honour to work with Sir Phillip and the team. I hope everyone enjoys watching it as much as we did making it.” The film will be shown on the store’s website, cinemas, digital billboards, giant screens installed in flagship stores and interactive audio windows worldwide. Do you love Kate’s dress and shoes? They will be available as a special made to order on the website in conjunction with the new store opening in LA in February next year, so keep your eyes peeled for more deets about that when we get them. We’re glad the mystery has finally been solved! http://youtu.be/bULAE2cZDJI

Nicole Scherzinger’s timelessly elegant in Topshop

We love the X Factor style-off between female judges Nicole Scherzinger and Tulisa Contostavlos, and can rarely fault their (and their stylists’) sartorial decisions, but last night we were blown away by one judge in particular. Nicole made our jaws drop when she showed off the heavenly curves that she has so clearly been blessed with in a floor-length white fishtail gown. (This is what Nicole looks like in a long white dress, Lewis Hamilton, better make an honest woman out of her soon before someone else does…) The American judge gave us old Hollywood glamour by way of the vintage curls in her hair, she gave us sexiness thanks to the cut out detailing in the dress, she gave us boldness by wearing a very vivid shade of red lippie, and she gave us gorgeousness thanks to… well the whole look in general. She also gave us a huge shock when we learnt that her dress was by none other than high-street fave Topshop. Why haven’t we seen that on the rails, then? We doubt we’d look anywhere near as flawless as Nicole does, but it’s still nice  to try, right? Did you love Nicole’s dress as much as we did?

Leigh Lezark vs. Daisy Lowe in Topshop Unique!

We find nothing more exciting than when celebs favour high street wares! Reasons: 1) We can buy them too, and, 2) they wear them so well, it’s almost high end minus the painful price tag!   So when we laid eyes on this week’s fashionably forward duo, who sported the same Topshop Unique a/w’12 handknit cross jumper to different events, we were beyond ourselves with excitement!   Excitement because we knew the jumper in question would be a hot favourite with the fash pack as soon as it appeared on the Unique runway back in February and, also, because superstar DJ and all round fashion darling Leigh Lezark and Brit model Daisy Lowe put their personal spin on the fabulous piece.   Daisy sported the statement Unique jumper to, surprise surprise, sit pretty on the FROW at the Topshop Unique s/s’13 show during London Fashion Week last month. She daringly took inspiration from the original catwalk look and teamed the knit with bare legs, wedge calf-length boots and added a cute backpack and a long coin necklace to the mix.   Leigh was spotted in the Unique jumper at the Anna Dello Russo x H&M launch in Paris last month, and opted for a similar look to Daisy’s, however she opted for (visible) leather shorts, pointed knee-high boots and a chain strap shoulder bag.   Can you see our predicament? Ton between two similar looks, both on super stylish women and both so good?! But, as always, there can only be one sartorial prize snatcher…   Fash-off champion: Both ladies pulled of the Unique cross jumper with aplomb, but we do love a darer when it comes to turning conventional dressing on its head. Although Leigh’s look works, it’s a safe choice in comparison to Daisy’s. A suitably stylish flash […]

Peek the JW Anderson for Topshop collection!

We told you a while back that JW Anderson and Topshop would be joining forces for an almighty collection, and now it’s time to take a peek at what they have been working on these past few months. “I am very excited to collaborate with Topshop,” the designer said in a press release. “It gives me the opportunity to reach a much wider audience with my designs. It has always been very important to me that my collections are made accessible to anyone interested in fashion and design.” Both clothing and non-clothing items will be sold in a space specially created for the collection by set designer Gary Card; customers will also be able to shop the collection from a catalogue within the store. Sounds pretty exciting right? The price points however, are even more exciting, as they range from just 99p to £129.99. Bargain! Love what you see so far? In that case, we have great news for you (and bad news for your bank accounts), as a second collection is slated to launch at the beginning of next year. Happy days! The first JW Anderson for Topshop collection drops on September 14th. [Images c/o Topshop]

The Ashish for Topshop sports collection is on sale now!

Following on from our “sporty yet fashionable finds” feature last week, we thought it would be a good idea to remind you that the latest Ashish for Topshop collection has a very strong sports theme to it too. Just giving you all the options for your sporty, summery (no doubt Olympic-themed) wardrobe. The designer’s eighth collection for the High Street chain features a tracksuit set adorned with world flags, lots of jumpers with cheeky slogans such as “2nd place”, “I love sports” and “don’t play games”, and a very tongue in cheek American baseball jacket which reads “loser” on the back. We love how Ashish has taken a different approach with the collection; it’s actually more personal to him than you might think… “I was rubbish at sports in school, and I was always the last one chosen for the football team,” Ashish Gupta said. “So I can relate to being the ‘loser’! I want to celebrate the underdog, the runner up, the ones that don’t get the medals!” What a refreshing and endearing concept. It’s like Glee all over again! The Ashish for Topshop sports collection is on sale right now!

Rate or Slate Alexa Chung in Marc Jacobs, Lily Collins in Valentino Couture and Jaime King in custom Topshop?

With the biggest event in the fashion calendar going down this week, it’s no surprise then that this week’s RATE or SLATE is doing just that to some rather thought provoking Met Ball 2012 dress choices. The ever-fashion forward Alexa Chung attended this year’s Met Ball as the guest of fashion god Marc Jacobs, and wore a creation from the designer’s fall 2012 collection. (natch) Usually, we take a second glance at Alexa and then continue to stare in awe at how she has concocted up her latest look, but this time we’re not totally sure how we feel… Lily Collins’ interesting choice made for some rather exciting viewing! Opting for a fashionably romantic creation, Lily wore a sheer lace Valentino couture gown and looked every inch the red carpet queen. Although the Little House on the Prairie-inspired gown may not be every one’s first choice, it kind of worked on Lily, but we’re still deciding…. Jaime King decided to do a repeat performance of Ginnifer Goodwin’s foray into high street fashion for the red carpet at last year’s Met Ball, but we’re not entirely convinced she outshone her predecessor! It over to our Style Jury… Fashion News Ed says: Alexa Chung: ‘Anyone who reads MFL will know that we love a bit of Alexa Chung… she can do no wrong in our eyes, but this is one of the very rare occasions where something has gone a little bit awry. I love the dress, but for me, the shirt ruined it… totally not appropriate for such a prestigious event!’ Lily Collins: ‘I adore Lily Collins’ Valentino Couture! This is the standard I expect to see at the Met Gala… I love how Lily mixed it up and embraced the theme of the evening, but still opted for youthful and […]

Rate or Slate: Rihanna in Givenchy, Michelle Obama in Wes Gordon and Tulisa in Topshop

This week’s Rate or Slate see’s a rather interestingly kitted out Rihanna, and the First Lady showing us why the fashion world sat up and took notice when she followed her husband into the White House. For the Battleship Japan photo call Rihanna went with a directional, all-black Givenchy Fall 2012 number – we can always trust RiRi to be a little different! Michelle Obama attended the 2012 Nickelodeon 25th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards in a Wes Gordon Spring 2012 tunic and metallic jeans (or jeggings, we suspect), whilst Tulisa was spotted leaving the BBC Radio One studios in a symmetrical, hyper print Topshop dress. We’re far too torn between these style choices, so it’s over to our Style Jury…. Fashion News Ed says: Rihanna: “Sorry Rihanna, you look like a bag lady here… love the hair though.” Michelle Obama: “Michelle is hands down the winner for me. I love how elegant and gorgeous the First Lady looked in what are possibly jeggings! Just goes to show that it doesn’t matter what you wear and where you wear it to – you can still exude class!” Tulisa: “I do also love Tulisa’s dress… always love a celeb in high street! It’s a bit ‘been there done that’ as I feel Tulisa lives in these types of dresses, but I don’t blame her, as they are perfect for her body shape. Thumbs up!” You say: “RiRi – no to the gloves, add colour pop shoes, 1st Lady – Fab and Tulisa – love the whole outfit except the bag.” – @ItsAyesh via Twitter “Miss O!” Crystal Simone Ferguson via Facebook Verdict: Rate to the power of one! With our Facebook followers giving Michelle Obama a whopping 80% of votes, and a rather approving Fashion News Ed, the First Lady is this […]

Lusting after Topshop’s Unique Pixelated Cleopatra Sweatshirt

Topshop Unique’s S/S 2012 collection might have been met with mixed reviews by the fashion press when released, but there is one lady in particular who is definitely championing the range. You might have heard of her- she’s called Rihanna! As one of MFL’s favourite singers, we were overjoyed to see Ri-Ri in the British label and have been lusting after her Cleopatra sweatshirt ever since.  The boxy jumper featuring a pixelated image of Liz Taylor as Cleopatra, perfectly channels the sportswear trend and is ideal for casual days. The collection has also caught the eye of Lindsay Lohan who wore a longer version of the top in a shoot with Terry Richardson for LOVE magazine. We would pair it now with skinny jeans or maxi skirt a la Rihanna or denim cut-offs when the weather gets warmer. Add a few pieces of chunky gold jewellery and you’ll be walking like an Egyptian in no time! Topshop Unique Pixelated Cleopatra Sweatshirt, £50, available at Topshop.

Deal of the Day: Topshop Moto Fitted Denim Shirt

The denim shirt: a nineties classic now making a massive comeback. We can see why – denim shirts are not only utterly cool in that classic insouciant ‘I’m not trying to be cool’ kind of way, but they are also just so incredibly versatile. Take this one from Topshop’s denim range, Moto. We can see this setting off tight leather trousers an absolute treat, as the casual denim complements and tones down the show-off leather to scenester perfection. We can also see this thrown over a tight body con dress with lots of gold and a pair of ankle boots – totally rock and roll. Or we’ll team it with some denim jeans for the double denim look that we saw on Acne’s Spring Summer catwalk and on Kate Moss when she sat front row at the Mulberry Spring Summer Show. If Kate’s doing it, then so should we! One shirt, a million ways to wear it – now that’s what we call a deal… Topshop Moto Fitted Denim Shirt, £30, available from Topshop.

Lunchtime Buy: Topshop Psychic3 Studded Ankle Boots

Topshop’s ankle boots are becoming a thing of legend – they are just so good! Having swooned over the Ambush boots and their incredible resemblance to the famous Acne Pistol boot before, we now turn our attention to the latest member of Topshop’s boot family, the Psychic3 Studded Ankle Boot. Hey there, beautiful! The Psychic3 boot has the same chunky style and feature zips that we loved about the Ambush boot, whilst boasting its own exciting detail. The steel toe cap and studded rear are glitzy hardware that we’re simply obsessed with, referencing the nineties grunge trend that looks set to be huge this season. The tan leather meanwhile is simply lush, whilst the wooden heel is just the right height, elongating our legs perfectly. We’ll wear these now with our skinny jeans, band t-shirts and a chunky coat, until we ditch the coat and swap the jeans for denim cut-off shorts come summertime, when these will be looking simply sweet on festival fields. Rock on! Topshop Psychic3 Studded Ankle Boots, £110, available from Topshop.

Deal of the Day: Topshop Pleat Midi Shirtdress

Here at My Fashion Life, we’re a sucker for a pretty dress.  This Topshop number is a prime example of the kind of thing that makes us weak at the knees – whimsical and flirty, we can imagine floating around in this right through to summer. Firstly, let’s talk about the pleats. Now, we all know pleats are big news this summer – Jonathan Saunders and Jil Sander both featured the finish in their SS12 collections – so we’re more than happy to start sporting the trend early. Plus, the midi-length is bang on-trend too. Two major SS12 looks in one piece? Ideal, we say! Then, there’s the soft cream colour – a warm neutral that will look great teamed with this spring’s pastels. And let us not forget to mention the neat little collar, which finishes off the Dress of Dreams in a subtle and sweet way. We’ll be wearing this with chunky platform heels and a strong lip. Cute as a button! Topshop Pleat Midi Shirtdress, £50, available from Topshop.

Deal of the Day: Topshop Stepped Hem Dress

After all the glitz and sparkle of the Christmas party season, we’re craving some minimalism for 2012. A fresh, clean start to the year is what we’re looking for, and so too are our wardrobes as we push those party dresses to the back of the closet and start to refresh our looks for the new season ahead. So, what better way to convey a new beginning than with a simple pure white dress? This shift dress from Topshop looks box-fresh for the new year ahead. It’s plain, pure and simply white, referencing the minimalist style of top designers such as Celine. Its stepped hem style – with a longer hem at the back than the front – is a cut that we saw on many a SS12 runway at London Fashion Week, with this dress itself looking like a dead ringer for some of the white pieces that we saw at new Korean design talent, J JS Lee’s SS12 show. We have the feeling that minimalism is going to be big in 2012, so why not start early with this little white dress? Plus, it’s one of the first pieces from Topshop’s highly anticipated SS12 collection. A new dress for a new year – every girl needs one! Topshop Stepped Hem Dress, £50, available from Topshop.

Deal of the day: Topshop Knitted Textured Stitch Fluro Jumper

So, you’re just getting back into the swing of a normal working week again after an indulgent Christmas break of lie-ins and festive film watching, right? Yep, us too. Just think, this time last week we were still enjoying turkey sandwiches whilst hitting the sales for our New Years Eve party outfits! But alas, that’s all over now and it’s time to buckle down to routine again…Sob! Worry not, though – this bright little number from Topshop promises to banish any January blues! Instantly cheering, its fluro pink promises a bright outlook for spring, reminding us that there are more colourful months ahead. Its waffle knit texture will also keep us warm through the chilly months that we’re still yet to encounter until Spring arrives. Until then, we’ll be teaming this jumper with skinny trousers or tight skirts and slim ankle boots to balance out its wide shape, whilst keeping the rest of the outfit simply black – fluro pink does not need any other colour to contend with after all. The future is bright, the future is fluro jumpers! Knitted Textured Stitch Fluro Jumper, £36, available from Topshop.

Deal of the day: Topshop short sleeve sequin tee

‘Tis the season to be, well, glitzy (it is Christmas, after all!) and what better way to sparkle than with some sequins? The trick with sequins, though, is to be subtle – all that sparkle means less is usually more – no one wants to look too much like their Christmas tree. So, would you look at what we found at Topshop: this navy blue sequin tee ticks all the boxes. Its simple cut plays down the glitz and glamour rather than making any outlandish statements, but it’s the charcoal-navy-blue hue that’s won us over with its versatility – it can look almost black when teamed with dark denim but can complement red cigarette trousers like an absolute dream. We have a feeling we’ll be wearing this tee non-stop this festive season… Topshop Short Sleeve Sequin Tee, £45, available at Topshop.

Lunchtime buy: Topshop Psychic2 studded ankle boots

Topshop has really been delivering in the boot department this season, and this pair are a case in point: meet the Psychic2 studded ankle boots, ladies (also known as The Boot of Dreams!). Let us count the ways that we love this pretty pair… First, there’s the stud detail on the rear of the boot. It’s totally rock and roll and bang on trend for this season – we saw lots of hardware detail mixed with soft leathers on the autumn/winter runways. Then there’s the metal toe feature – shiny and tough, we’re feeling like this is a bit Clint Eastwood in one of those old cowboy movies, but in a very good way. Then, there’s then incredibly flattering shape: cut just above the ankle, these will look sleek with skinny jeans and leg-lengthening when teamed with a short skirt. Perfect! And let’s not forget the chunky three inch heel, either – just the right size. Topshop, thank you for yet another boot-iful pair (oh, come on)! Topshop Psychic2 Studded Ankle Boots, £110, available at Topshop.

Deal of the Day: Topshop nail art pen

Looking for a thrifty and quick way to update your look? Search no further than your very own fingernails! A trend that’s been rife in the blogosphere for a good while now, nail art finally hit the catwalk in a big way this season.  Not content with the plainly painted nail, nails have become more intricate than ever. At Topshop’s Unique show, the golden girls had hieroglyphic nails to complement their Egyptian-style looks, whilst at Philip Lim, talons were tinted nude with an intricate black half moon just above the cuticle – so chic! We’ve been searching for the ultimate nail art pen to perfect our painterly designs for a while now, and Topshop has come up trumps with its precision-tip tool. Created with a felt tip-style nib (rather than those pesky metal points), doodling on your nails has never been easier or as effective. We’ll be scrawling seasonal holly on ours ready for those Christmas parties – here’s hoping the rest of the collection ends up in our stocking! Topshop nail art pen, £6.50, available at Topshop.

First look: Topshop spring/summer 2012

It’s a strange concept that, when upping the heating by a few degrees and being stalked by dull skies, we should be thinking about spring, but alas, fashion is nothing if not far-out at times. And so it was that yesterday we were transported to far sunnier climes when we popped into Topshop’s press day to see what’s in store next season – and as the high street store presented its first stand-alone presentation (without the rest of the Arcadia group), temps were soaring to say the least. Split into four sections – festival, metallic luxe, tropical and scuba – you can expect to be wearing the following next season: candyfloss colours with ombre effects, cropped pastel knits, delicate lace dresses (often in acid shades), slathers of metallic silver, tropical prints and scuba details. Highlights include a cream chiffon maxi dress decorated with pink embroidery, a nude patent biker jacket that screams tough Upper East girl, ombre shades on silk trousers and a lightweight blazer, a shiny silver leather mac fit for a flight to the moon, an Eighties-bright tropical print blouse and an Erdem-esque floral printed silk top. Shoes, both heels and sandals, get the silver touch too, but the most impressive piece, perhaps, was Mary Katrantzou’s limited edition dress. As close to the designer’s mainline as it could possibly get, her signature prints and structured shapes have been translated across a 14 piece capsule collection set to hit stores next February. So far a colourful contrast print puff-ball dress is the only glimpse we’ve been given, but you can take our word that it’s likely to become Topshop’s most successful designer collaboration to date. We’re only allowed to share five images of Topshop’s new collection, so, naturally, we’ve tried to pack as many pieces into those pictures as […]

Ever since the Acne Pistol boots became one of the most coveted items worn by fashion editors world over, we’ve been seriously lusting after them – the mid-sized heel and perfect shape made them one of the most versatile ‘it’ pieces around. Now Topshop has brought us the Ambush boot. With their comfortable yet stylish mid-heel and metallic side zips, they look remarkably similar to the Acne’s Pistols, but they’re a quarter of the price (thanks, Topshop). They’ll look great teamed with skinny cropped jeans through autumn, and will see you through winter to next spring when we think they’ll look even better teamed with bare legs and a cute ditsy dress. Oh and this leather can handle some scrapes too, so scuff away, girls! Topshop Ambush side zip boots, £75, available at Topshop.

Lunchtime buy: Topshop bound seam duffle coat

Is it time to buy a coat yet? We think so! Every girls’ favourite part of winter if buying a new warmer, and now’s the perfect time to snap them up to avoid disappointment. There are certain criteria that a new winter coat must meet: it must be stylish (naturally), it must go with everything (essential), and it must be warm and practical (see ya, ¾ sleeves!). This aubergine duffle coat from Topshop is all of the above. It looks so warm we’d happily sleep in it, it’s in that lovely boozy burgundy colour that’s pretty much the hue of choice this season, and it looks totally like the cute Little Red Riding Hood inspired duffle coats that strutted down Mulberry’s AW11 runway. Warm, affordable and designer-inspired? That definitely makes this piece a cool contender, we think. Bound Seam Duffle Coat, £89, available at Topshop.

Lunchtime buy: Topshop knitted spot mesh jumper

Since summer is now officially over, here in Britain we’re reluctantly accepting that balmy summer evenings are now a thing of the past, so it’s time to start dressing, dare we say it, more appropriately. So now we’re facing an age old dilemma: we want to look glam and gorgeous on an autumn night out, but we’d quite like to be warm and avoid catching that horrible cold that everyone is getting, too. Well, fear not! This Topshop mesh jumper has come to our rescue. Its knitted sleeves will protect and warm during those cold nights out, whilst its spot mesh sweetheart neckline looks subtly sexy for an evening on the tiles. It’ll look great with leather shorts, black tights and very high heels for disco fun, and will look just as cool with skinny jeans and the oldest pair of Converse pumps for daytime chic. Plus, it’s the closest high street match we’ve found for Stella’s spot mesh dress… Topshop Knitted Spot Mesh Jumper, £38, available at Topshop.

London Fashion Week SS12: Topshop Unique

Who: Topshop Unique What: Ancient Eygpt, via the street style of the urban Nineties ghetto. Highlights: Gold everything, from prints to embellishment and leaf-capped hair. Lowlights: It’s a hard collection to pull off for your average fashion fan. Overall: Ancient Egypt and the urban Ninties hip hop scene aren’t two historical eras on the timeline we’d expect to come together, but where Topshop Unique is concerned, it’s really best not to have any expectations at all. Actually, you’d be surprised just how well oversized sporty streetwear and abstract hieroglyphic prints work. Jersey cropped joggers and sweaters are exaggerated and relaxed, and as street as we’ve come to expect from Unique, but they’re splashed with brash graffiti-like hieroglyphic prints. The occasional full-skirted dress or flared skirt gave way to a more refined edge, but the underlying street signs didn’t wane as ghetto gold motifs of coiled snakes and scareb beetles reflecting the opulence of Ancient Egypt appeared on everything from slouchy separates to tube dresses and a pretty pink pleated skirt. Gold was the order of the day, it seems, covering everything from foil bustiers to hotpants and models’ hair. Monochrome was also prevalent, particularly effective in an enlarged Elizabeth Taylor Cleopatra print, as were jewel tones in turquoise and watermelon. Glamorous and ghetto-fabulous, Unique’s spring 2012 collection is a contemporary pharoah party, with the likes of Anna Wintour, Naomi Campbell and Olivia Palermo filling the dancefloor.
