Even standing in the queue for this show was an event; it was a who’s who of celebsville, from Pamela Anderson to Mischa Barton to Kate Moss to Erin O’Connor and Dita Von Teese, yes they were all there en masse. Oh, and I must add that Dita really is flawless. So, on with the clothes and the curiously long catwalk (the models must have been exhausted). To say I was excited is an understatement but I am very pleased to report that the Grande Dame of fashion did not disappoint.

Her designs stood out from the crowd, effortless and refined. She transformed fabrics that were traditionally associated with men’s clothing, like tweed and jersey, into chic, comfy pieces for women. The late designer will always be remembered for her creation of the little black dress, which is still a wardrobe staple for many. Chanel also branched out into the fragrance industry, launching her famous Chanel No. 5 perfume in 1921. She was a trendsetter in more ways than one, using groundbreaking marketing techniques to promote her work. Here are some ideas that can help you create a secondary source of income — or even a primary one if your venture becomes successful! Try your hand at the stock exchange The fashion apparel sector took a hard hit during the pandemic, as retail sales fell by over a quarter compared to pre-pandemic levels. However, spending on apparel and especially athletic-inspired or fitness wear is growing year-on-year. While apparel is not a high-growth sector in the economy, it is a staple that people continue to buy annually. Athletic wear has long been normalized as part of a healthy lifestyle. From yoga leggings to relaxed joggers, fitness gear remains a popular purchase. Therefore, if you are considering trading online, you may want to focus your attention on sports apparel stocks such as Nike (NYSE:NKE), Sket=chers (NYSE:SKX), Lululemon Athletica (NASDAQ:LULU), etc. You want a safe trading platform that can educate you on the tips and tricks in the industry, that doesn’t include a commission for your deposits, and allows you to withdraw your funds easily. As Bob Dylan once nasally intoned, “The times they are a-changin’”. And although he wasn’t singing about fashion, he’s as good an example as any to examine how quickly trends can alter. Just look at Dylan’s move from huge unruly hair to a wide-brimmed hat and pencil moustache combination. From bohemian mass to slinking style in only a decade. But the times change much more quickly where fashion is concerned. And with the golden suns of summer quietly dissipating into the orange leaves of autumn, it won’t be long before your sun-drenched dresses are looking a little out of fashion. So let’s not allow the seasons to ruin your glamour prowess. Try a few of these tips and you’ll be able to strut down the high street as though it were a catwalk in Milan. An up-and-coming brand Every year, the brands of the high street rise and fall with the times. Your Topshops become bottom shops while your Nexts enter the past tense. But some up-and-comers are worth the kind of praise that will keep them in good stead for years to come. The plus-sized clothing brand Lavitta, for instance, has made waves in the fashion industry lately, showcasing a wide range of brands that could make anyone look like a fashionista. Their range spans from sizes 12-24, giving the larger lady a huge assortment of choices. From dresses to coats to tops and much more, this is the company to keep visiting this autumn. Get fashion-Clueless The cast of Clueless might be wearing on, but the 20-year-old film is still as fresh as ever. Indeed, the 90s is back in a BIG way and is, like, totally the “in” thing right now. Iggy Azaelea has purloined the style for a music video, while denim and crazy colours are […]

What the North East may lack in sunshine, it more than makes up for in style. The area has a rich history of statement fashion and pioneering design. Of course, true style comes from one’s ability to tailor their look to any occasion, and with Amilio Couture’s Charity Fashion Show just around the corner, it is important to know how to bring the best out of yourself for such a prestigious event. Amilio Couture’s Charity Fashion Show is being hosted by St James’ Park, Newcastle, on Thursday 30 July, and is being held to help raise money for Children with Cancer UK. As well as being for a great cause, the event also gives you the chance to see Amilio Couture’s summer range, while enjoying a champagne reception, canapés, a Toni and Guy goodie bag on arrival, and a prize raffle. Perhaps the most exciting element of the night, though, is choosing what to wear! Charity events call for a particular type of fashion, where a balance of style and elegance must be perfectly calculated to not only dress appropriately, but to turn heads. With the charity fashion show being a North East event, we have kindly been supplied with some advice from Jules B, a local fashion boutique. Here are a few garments and accessories that would guarantee your status as the belle of the charity ball: The Little Black Dress — Versus Versace Mini Dress For the classic formal-chic look, the little black dress cannot be overlooked. Clinging to all the right places, the dress is flexible in that it can form part of sophisticated and casual ensembles. Read MoreFrom Chanel to Dior – why Paris is still the heart of fashion
When you think of Paris, fashion is always the first word that pops into your head. The City of Culture is known throughout the world for its high number of artists and designer residents, from painters selling their work on the streets in Montmatre, to the designers working for the world’s most prestigious fashion houses. Paris’ vibrant creative scene is the reason so many tourists flock to the city every year, to live out their dreams of renting a little studio in the Latin quarter and spending their days walking along the Seine, or sitting outside coffee shops watching the world’s most stylish residents walk by, now being made available to tourists through Housetrip for short tourism trips. The city has been the centre of the fashion industry since the reign of Louis XIV. The King was very enthusiastic about fashion and encouraged everyone at Versailles to follow suite. He demanded certain types of dress for certain events and started the first Parisian guild of seamstresses, made up of women endorsed by his highness to make clothes. In modern times, famous Parisians like Coco Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Dior revolutionised the fashion industries of their eras. Coco Chanel influenced the way women dressed all over the world with her effortless and elegant clothes in the early 1920s, while Christian Dior invented the New Look after the war. In the 1960s, Yves Saint Laurent modernised the stuffy world of couture with his daring Le Smoking tuxedos for women. It’s a testimony to all three designers that their names live on as three of the biggest fashion houses in production today. Not only are their labels still around, but they are as desirable as ever. The fashion world still takes its lead from Paris. London, Milan and New York might […]
Read MoreTracey Emin designs next year’s Brit Awards statue!
British artist Tracey Emin will follow in the footsteps of Dame Vivienne Westwood, Philip Treacy, Sir Peter Blake, and Damien Hirst, as it’s just been announced that she’s been chosen to design next year’s Brit Awards statue. (Philip Treacy designed this year’s one, which you can see Ellie Goulding accepting in the pic above.) “Tracey is one of the UK’s most prominent fine artists and we are delighted that she has agreed to re-work the 2015 Brits trophy,” said Brits chairman Max Lousada. “Having her on board means that we enter a fifth year of iconic and uniquely designed Brit statues, and with British creativity very much at the heart of the event, it’s fitting that Tracey takes the baton and continues this tradition.” We can’t wait to see what she comes up with, especially as she is known to use her own experiences as inspiration for her work. If we are to believe reports currently doing the rounds, the coveted accolade will be a “blank canvas” design, making it something we’ve never seen in a Brit Awards statue before. Keep your eyes peeled! [Harper’s Bazaar]
Read MoreHow to bring a touch of fashion to your pad….
With its bold, eye-catching designs, constant innovation and stunning looks, the world of fashion is a fantastic source of inspiration for homeowners and interior designers everywhere. From colour schemes to fabrics and patterns to cuts, the catwalk is packed full of ideas for every room in your home. So if you want to liven up your interior and bring a little glamour into your life, here are some tips for adding a touch of fashion to your pad. Leather There are few materials that the world of fashion loves more than leather and investing in good quality leather sofas and chairs is a great way to bring a hint of the catwalk into your living room. Whether you opt for classic Edwardian or Victorian designs or go for contemporary leather looks, just make sure you choose high quality pieces as cheap leather will look old and tatty before its time. Fabrics As the backbone of the fashion industry, introducing fabrics to your home is one of the most effective ways to add style to your home. Whether you choose to give your curtains a makeover, re-cover your cushions or re-upholster your dining room chairs, a few well chosen pieces of vibrant fabric can add a real style touch to your home. Statement features If there’s one thing that the catwalk loves, it’s a style statement, so why not create your very own signature piece with a statement feature of your own? Oversized chandeliers, large pieces of wall art, bold wall paint and unique furnishings all make fantastic features. Just remember, the bolder, the better. Wallpaper The patterns, colours and high end feel of good quality wallpaper has a lot in common with fashion, so makes a great outlet for your catwalk aspirations. For the complete catwalk look, try wallpapering an […]
Read More5 of our favourite key Autumn 2014 trends
If the end of another summer is leaving you blue, then take a look at the upcoming fashion trends for autumn 2014 and pick yourself up with some seasonal retail therapy. Oversized Scarves: No autumn/winter wardrobe is complete without a scarf and this year, it’s all about oversized wraps and wearable blankets. Bright and bold patterns in woollen knits and lightweight, romantic silks graced the catwalks of Burberry Prorsum, Vivienne Westwood and Issa this year. But if you’re looking for something a little more sedate that’s suitable for day-to-day wear then Winser London offer two elegant, oversized yet manageable scarves that are perfect for softening the structured lines of a trouser suit – another of this season’s key trends – or layering up over dresses and casual weekend clothes. 1960’s Throwback: Every year the world’s leading designers pay homage to a bygone era and this season, those classic asymmetric shapes, bold prints and short hemlines of the 1960’s were favoured in the Valentino, Gucci and Luis Vuitton collections. To give your wardrobe a classic nod to the 1960’s, pair cropped trousers, denims or an A-line skirt with a polo-neck jumper. Once again, Winser London have got this trend spot on with a selection of polo-necks in five warm, autumnal colours that flatter any skin tone and which are ideal for professional or cosy, casual wear. Embroidery and Embellishment If you’re looking for a show-stopping dress for an event this autumn, then delicate materials in rich tones that are beautifully embellished or embroidered are where it’s at. Oscar de la Renta, Alberta Ferretti, Valentino and Roberto Cavalli all included sensational, sheer and embroidered gowns in their autumn 2014 catwalk collections. Although many high-street retailers will be adopting this trend, Winser London have applied beautiful embroidery to a delicately tailored dress for […]

Read MoreJulianne Moore Worst Dressed of the Week in Prabal Gurung
Celebrities like to stay ahead of the sartorial game, we all know that much. But when the result of that race to get first dibs on a runway-fresh look ends up leaning towards drab than abso-freakin-lutely fab, we have a few bones to pick. This week, letting us down on the fall 2014 front is actress Julianne Moore, who sported a dramatic look from Prabal Gurung’s latest runway collection to the L.A. premiere of Non-Stop, earlier this week – and didn’t do such a great job of it. On the runway, the printed wrap dress with an asymmetrical hemline looked great; but translated on the red carpet, its allure was lost. The wrap top looks super-unflattering on Julianne – as the fit around the waist was lost – in turn making the bottom half of the dress appear awkward. However, all is not lost. We’re totally diggin’ those three-strap pointed pumps she paired with this red carpet effort, and her signature red mane looked sumptuously glossy; even the lack of accessories was a good thing on this occasion. A better fit on the top half could’ve save this look, but as it stands, this one’s going in the ‘don’t repeat’ pile, Julianne. What do you think of Julianne’s look? Is our WDOTW verdict fair? Last night some of the biggest names in the music industry walked the red carpet at London’s O2 for the 2014 Brit Awards, looking absolutely head-turningly fabulous in the process. Beyonce didn’t actually walk the main red carpet, but she stole the show for us sartorially and vocally. As the surprise performer of the night, Bey wowed the crowd with her performance of XO, and also made jaws drop thanks to her shimmering, figure-hugging Vrettos Vrettakos gown. She looked like a modern day mermaid! Katy Perry proved that we don’t need to wait for the Oscars to see new-season sparkly dresses hit the red carpet, as she stepped out in a glittering Julien Macdonald dress hot off the autumn/winter 2014 catwalk while presenting an award on stage. Rita Ora added some much needed colour to the red carpet by way of an attention-grabbing yellow Prada dress – gorgeous doesn’t even cut it – and Rosie Huntington Whiteley and Iggy Azalea went bold and sexy in the classic wowsome colour, red! Akin to Karl Lagerfeld and Vivienne Westwood, Roberto Cavalli is another one of those designers who we can always rely on to speak their mind in an interview. And the Italian designer certainly came out with some bold and interesting statements in his latest interview with Style.com, including how American designer Michael Kors allegedly copies his work… “American women trust designers like Michael Kors. He’s one of the biggest copy designers in the world,” he said. “I just want to tell him to stop copying me! Stop! All the time I write those comments on Instagram. He copies everybody! And Americans like Michael Kors! And you love so many other designers who do that—he’s not American fashion. He is international fashion made in America. It’s not fair. The American women, they all dress the same.” Yikes – do you think Michael Kors copies Roberto Cavalli and other designers? Do you care? Doesn’t everyone seek inspiration from everyone at the end of the day? Thoughts below!

It was just announced that Katy Perry is a confirmed performer at next year’s Brit Awards (for the first time ever!), but now we have another reason to get excited about one of the most important music events of the year. Philip Treacy, milliner extraordinaire, is designing next year’s Brit Award, an honour which has also been given to the likes of Vivienne Westwood, Damien Hirst and Sir Peter Blake. “Music has always been my inspiration and I’m fortunate to have worked with some of the music industry’s greatest artists,” Philip Treacy said. “My inspiration for the trophy comes from a uniquely British genre of music, punk.” Punk, eh? Does anyone else think he was inspired by the punk theme at this year’s Met Gala? What do you think of the first look of the award, above? Can you imagine your favourite music star waving it around during their acceptance speech onn Wednesday February 19th? [Grazia]
Read MoreGet your hands on a designer Christmas jumper, help Save the Children
We all love a good Christmas jumper. We never understood why Bridget Jones and Mark Darcy were so against wearing them. To coincide with our favourite holiday of the year, a host of our favourite designers have joined forces to create Christmas jumpers to raise money and awareness for Save the children. 14 British brands, the likes of which include Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Mary Katrantzou, Paul Smith, House of Holland, Anya Hindmarch and Vivienne Westwood to name but a few, have designed jumpers which will be auctioned off on Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper day on December 13th. The cool thing about this auction – which opens for bidding on Thursday November 28th – is that it works in reverse, which means that the lowest unique bid wins, as opposed to the highest. Pretty neat, right? So, if you want to own a Christmas jumper created by your favourite designer while helping a fantastic charity at the same time, all you have to do is text the name of the designer whose jumper you want to get your hands on and your minimum unique bid to 78484. Texts cost £1.50, the proceeds of which will of course be going to Save the Children. [Vogue]

What a packed weekend it was in Paris! Paris Fashion Week was the place to be at the weekend, with some of the hottest shows from the likes of Roland Mouret, Christian Dior, Vivienne Westwood, Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano, Comme des Garcons and Givenchy taking place. It was all very Secret Garden at Christian Dior – ladylike, elegant, and a very literal interpretation of spring/summer. Flowers adorned the entire venue as opposed to just the garments, and the handbags were dreamier and more elaborate than ever. Lily Collins, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were just a few of the famous faces sitting pretty on the Givenchy front row, but even A-listers couldn’t distract from Riccardo Tisci’s designs and the new direction he took the Givenchy label in. There was an abundance of Asian and African influence – the kimono styles were a particular favourite – as well as sequins, loose draped silhouettes, lapels, pleats and more. Lady Gaga can pretty much pick out her tour wardrobe from the Comme des Garcons collection, while Jean Paul Gaultier referenced everyone from vintage Madonna to Grease’s Danny Zuko (played expertly by model Coco Rocha) among others. We think JPG gets the prize for most entertaining catwalk show – especially since the audience members were treated to a performance from trained ballet dancer Karlie Kloss. Oh to have been in Paris! Pamela Anderson sat pretty on the Vivienne Westwood FROW, and although we don’t believe the collection was made exclusively for her, we can definitely her donning more than a few of the pieces in the next couple of months. Bigger was definitely better, with a “more the merrier” approach to colours. Christian Dior Comme des Garcons Givenchy Jean Paul Gaultier John Galliano Vivienne Westwood

Read MoreA fashion resurrection…
Since 2010, the fashion-conscious have started adopting a footwear brand once banished to the realm of toddlers and OAPs. But thanks to being stocked by some of the hottest high-street retailers, Clarks, have become a firm fixture on the most stylish lists. Spotted on the feet of celebrities such as Florence Welsh and Robert Pattison, the brand has gained some major fashion points; the Clarks Desert boot has become a style staple for both men and women. Plus, reggae artist Vybz Kartel even wrote a song about his love for the brand, causing a huge sales increase in Jamaica. Launching their Clarks UK lines into shops such as Brantano and Urban Outfitters, more and more retailers are picking-up the brand for winter. However, despite this current ‘cool’ resurgence, Clarks have no makeover or rebranding plans and will stay humble, continuing to make high quality footwear for all and they have since 1825. Recent collections have been doing well, with several lines selling out rather quickly. And it’s the brogues and boots that are particularly eye catching; adding simple details with comfort being central to every shoes construction, Clarks have provided some excellent winter staples that will see you through for years. Made to be worn with cute ankle socks and distressed jeans, the Katelina Bay Ankle Boot is a sleek design in a buttery soft black suede. The 3 ½ inch heel is comfortable enough to ensure you can get out and about during the day in comfort, and add some desired height and glamour for an evening out. Looking far more expensive than the £60 price tag, the boots are a classic, well-constructed design right down to the subtle dark metal side zip detail, all too often made tacky and garish by other brands. The selection of flats are […]
Read MoreThe (un)importance of the skinny male model
Desensitised to seeing otherworldly bodies stretched across the pages of our favourite glossies, mooching on the size zero debate doesn’t really illicit the same reaction it used to. Media, advertising and popular culture all promote the ‘ideal’ physique, leaving many women so baffled by the (lack of) choice, that when a new(ish) target arrives on the fashion scene, we’re a little oblivious to its reception. Continuing to gallop ahead at frightening speed on his high (end) horse, Mr. Hedi Slimane decidedly caused a stir during the menswear spring 2014 shows. Casting a range of near-malnourished, almost elongated elfin-looking boys caused for much heated debate this week, with noted writer Tim Blanks of Style.com dubbing the Saint Laurent line-up as ‘wasp-waisted, shrunken-chested boy band members‘, suffering from the famed rock ‘n’ roll ‘appetite deprivation.’ Alluding, almost, to the emaciated bodies of bygone rock stars, with his most recent (distant) muses being found in the likes of sweaty, failed public bodies such as Pete Doherty and Blake Fielder-Civil, it almost appears as though Slimane doesn’t see past a 24 inch waist when he takes to the drawing board with those skinny trews. The male models looked in need of a hearty meal, or three, but judging by the backlash to his choice of physique for the show, Hedi’s the winner here. Generating such hype for his latest collection by taking a fashion taboo and effectively toying with it to his heart’s content, Hedi almost forces us to ignore the real underlying issue here: the masculine side of the size zero debate. It’s not just the girls with shrunken waists, y’know. Criticised for sticking to his signature but dated drainpipe silhouette, the emphasis that critics have placed on his choices for this collection distract us from the fact that the boys are too […]
Read MoreLily Collins rocks Dior for Glamour US July, is over-Photoshopped
Glamour US is continuing to get Photoshop-happy on its cover stars, with Lily Collins receiving the over-airbrushing treatment for the magazine’s July issue. We think it’s a bit of a shame as Lily Collins is one of Hollywood’s brightest young stars, and one thing she definitely doesn’t need is a lot of help in post-production. Still, she’s looking absolutely gorgeous in the Ellen von Unwerth lensed pic, posing in a striking Christian Dior dress and rocking bold eyes and ruby red lips. Lily’s interview is pretty interesting too, as she tells the mag about not asking her father (Phil Collins) for help, her friend Jennifer Lawrence, and her “mentor” mother. “It has nothing to do with acting,” she said about her mother. “She guides me through my personal life, telling me to experiment. She lets me borrow her vintage. She has Chanel and eighties stuff from Yohji Yamamoto and Vivienne Westwood that she got when vintage wasn’t cool. “She’d wear them to events with my dad, and everyone would ask what she had on; when she said ‘vintage,’ they’d go, ‘Oh, that’s nice,’ and, you know, turn the corner.” We would never snub vintage! Head to the Glamour website to find more pics and snippets from Lily’s interview.

Dame Vivienne Westwood isn’t the only designer to recently create an airline’s uniforms, oh no. While V-West may have given the Virgin Atlantic crew’s uniforms a make-over, Singapore-born Prabal Gurung will be lending his creative talents to All Nippon Airways to help it celebrate its 60th anniversary in style. “The new uniform will pay homage to the history of the airline while incorporating a fresh and modern perspective,” the designer said, also adding that it was an “honour” to be selected for the task. The uniforms will be worn by around 10,000 members of staff, so we hope he isn’t feeling the pressure. Then again, once you’ve dressed A-list actresses such as Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson, as well as First Lady Michelle Obama and even our very own Duchess of Cambridge, anything else should be a breeze, right? We can expect to see the uniforms unveiled in late 2014. [Telegraph]

Read MoreThe Met Gala 2013 – PUNK: Chaos to Couture red carpet roundup!
Forget the Oscars, the biggest, most fashionable night of the year is of course the Met Gala (or Met Ball, whichever you prefer) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, and this time round the theme was “Punk: Chaos to Couture”. This meant that there was an abundance of spikes, safety pins, short and fierce hair, and bags and bags of attitude… and the lucky A-listers who managed to secure an invitation to the prestigious event most definitely brought their sartorial A game on the red carpet. Celebs with short hair had a particularly easy ride as far as interpreting the punk theme was concerned as the likes of Karlie Kloss and Miley Cyrus really embraced it with their respective hairstyles. Sarah Jessica Parker didn’t let a little thing like long hair deter her from going all-out though, as she donned a fabulous Philip Treacy headpiece that was just as punk-rock as it was Carrie Bradshaw. Anne Hathaway finally got her Valentino red carpet moment this year – we definitely think she made up for not wearing his dress at the Oscars. We reckon she will be one of the hottest points of conversation, as she truly embraced the theme by channeling Blondie’s Debbie Harry and bleaching her hair blonde. Take a look at some of our stand-out looks: Beyonce in Givenchy Anne Hathaway in vintage Valentino Cara Delevingne in Burberry Amber Heard in Emilio Pucci Kristen Stewart in Stella McCartney Sarah Jessica Parker in Giles Deacon and Philip Treacy Miley Cyrus in Marc Jacobs Taylor Swift in J Mendel Katy Perry in Dolce and Gabbana Rooney Mara in Givenchy Amanda Seyfried in Givenchy Couture Karlie Kloss in Louis Vuitton Hailee Steinfeld in Donna Karan Atelier Dakota Fanning in Rodarte Coco Rocha in Emanuel Ungaro Nina Dobrev […]
Read MoreStacy Keibler vs. Ashley Tisdale: Who wore Rebecca Minkoff better?
Famed for her cute-meets-practical bags, designer Rebecca Minkoff’s clothing line is equally as covetable. So when we spotted two Hollywood lovelies in said designer’s wares, we couldn’t help but report back to our lovely readers! Arriving on the sets of EXTRA in LA, Ashley Tisdale sported a Rebecca Minkoff ensemble we couldn’t frankly take our eyes off! Made up of the Della Eyelet skirt and Kai Eyelet Bustier top, Ashley’s curve-skimming look was completed by Vivienne Westwood ‘Isabelle’ pumps and soft, side-swept curls. Second in line to sport the same look in a cut-out back dress version, was the leggy lovely and oh-so-lucky girlfriend of George Klooney, Stacy Keibler. Attending the opening of the Tracy Anderson flagship studio in Brentwood, California, earlier this month, Stacy opted to accent her look with bright red lips, hoop earrings, glossy locks and nude sandals. Both ladies look equally stunning putting their own spin on this hot-to-trot Rebecca Minkoff outfit, but only one can rightfully claim the style champ title! And…Stacy’s stolen the show and done it for us this week, thanks to her perfect shoe choice. Ashley carries off the look well, too, but the ‘Isabelle’ pumps are a little too chunky for our liking when paired with such a feminine silhouette. Thoughts on our fash-off verdict; do you agree?

[noskim] The jewellery trends for Spring/Summer 2013 are as different and fabulous as ever, as we begin to see them hitting the high street. As such, there were so many different styles out there on the catwalk that everyone, whatever their preference will be able to find something that they will love this season. The Folk Look Big, bold and embellished are what we saw from Dolce and Gabbana, with tassels, pom poms and ribbons hanging from ears and around necks. The great thing about this trend is that those with crafty fingers can make their own for a fraction of the price. The Classic Look, Oversized Chanel’s classic string of pearls were sent over the top with giant clusters and pearls as big as marbles as chokers and bracelets. The oversized jewellery was seen in other shows too, as Lanvin produced metal chokers and McQueen showed bee covered necks and wrists. Oversized jewellery has been in vogue for a while now, so you will find it easy to procure something in your taste on the high street. Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend Delicate silver jewellery was seen all over, from diamond-drop earrings at Louis Vuitton to diamond encrusted beetle jewellery at Vivienne Westwood. It was quite an action-packed weekend in the French Capital, with a host of celebs, editors, and big-name fashionistas filling the front rows of some of the hottest shows on the Fashion Month calendar. Some of the collections shown over the last few days included ones from Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano, Givenchy, Viktor & Rolf and Jean Paul Gaultier to name but a few. Viktor and Rolf embraced that monochrome trend we love so much, while Riccardo Tisci presented a stunningly intricate Givenchy collection with subtle punk infusions, with our fashion-favourite tartan print making an appearance on the catwalk too! And Givenchy wasn’t the only show to reference the 80s punk revolution – Jean Paul Gaultier also drew punk rock inspiration – particularly with the styling thanks to those wigs – and also with the abundance of leather and edgy printed pieces. [noskim] Today marks the start of London Fashion Week (LFW), where designers and fashionistas will descend into London for the next 4 days to see the looks and trends that contemporary designer brands have in store for Autumn/Winter 2013. LFW is the second in the series of ‘Big Four’ fashion weeks, which closely follows New York Fashion Week (NYFW) and is a prelude to the Paris and Milan Fashion Weeks. This year some of the biggest names in UK fashion will be showcasing their work, including Mulberry, Vivienne Westwood, Burberry and Christopher Kane; there will also be some of the heavy hitters from across the pond showcasing their work, such as Tom Ford and L’Wren Scott. The big four fashion shows also offer an opportunity to catch a glimpse to see what the big name celebrities will be sporting in the upcoming months; you are bound to see an array of well-heeled celebrities, buyers, and fashion journalists taking their place on the front rows as they admire the Autumn/Winter 13 showcases direct from the showroom. Based on what we saw at NYFW, we can expect a plethora of stripes, embellishment, and lace incorporated into the latest AW13 collections. However, you needn’t be one of the well-heeled celebrities in order to keep abreast of what is happening at the LFW shows; more and more fashion labels are beginning to make their runway shows much more accessible to consumers. Many big name fashion labels have started to stream or digitally broadcast their shows online, which allows consumers to keep up with fashion-related developments. Burberry have gone one step further by allowing particularly enthusiastic customers to purchase garments as soon as they have been shown on the catwalk. Similarly, this year, UK fashion giant Topshop have teamed up with Google + to broadcast […]

Grammy time! The red carpet got rolled out on both sides of the pond yesterday; while the biggest acting stars in the world jetted into London for the BAFTAs, the singing sensations headed to sunnier climes (Los Angeles, to be exact) for the 55th annual Grammy Awards. We were looking forward to seeing what the girls ended up wearing, given the stricter dress code they had to work with this year. We expected a few of them to be rebellious and flash the flesh anyway (if you’ve got it, you may as well flaunt it) but they actually more or less behaved themselves… save for a few plunging necklines and J-Lo’s dangerously high slit dress. If you joined us last night for our live-tweeting you might remember that we got particularly excited by the arrival of pop Princess Rihanna, who stuck to the rules and went for a phenomenal red custom Azzedine Alaia gown, and music Queen Beyonce who defied expectations and went for a modern monochrome pant suit by LFW-fave Osman… and totally working it, may we add! Another Sunday night was spent sitting in front of the television with a glass of fizz passing sartorial judgement on the famous faces of Tinsel Town, as the Screen Actors Guild Awards took place in LA.
