Happy birthday H! by Henry Holland

This week, H! by Henry Holland, Henry Holland’s lower-priced line for Debenhams, turned one year old, and to celebrate, he invited London’s fashion press to an intimate dinner at one of the capital’s coolest bistros (Bistrotheque, incidentally). We popped along to join Debenhams in the birthday celebrations, check out the soon-coming high summer pieces from H! and, of course, catch up with Henry while stuffing our faces full of seriously good food. We’ve picked our five favourite fun and flirty pieces from his latest drop at Debenhams that’ll have you looking runway-ready without breaking the bank this spring. Olivia Rubin launches capsule accessories collection for Dune

Olivia Rubin’s highly-anticipated collection for Dune hit stores last weekend, and as pictures from the collection quickly make their way online, we popped down to the online launch last night to take a closer look at the collaboration. Fans of the London designer will be pleased to know she’s worked her signature prints across a range of shoes and bags for the high street store, where killer platforms, party-ready pumps, everyday wedges and adorable flats sit alongside silk clutches and handheld totes. Taking three key prints from her previous ready-to-wear collections, there’s three distinct directions – a contemporary take on classic monochrome, a playful Seventies disco vibe fusing arty prints with vibrant colour pops, and a softer neutral print reminiscent of Seventies safari. “It has been an incredible experience working with Dune on this collaboration and bringing a selection of my signature prints onto a range of both classic and contemporary shoes and accessories,” says Olivia. “They understand my vision as a designer and together we worked on creating a collection that has something for everybody – I can’t wait to wear them myself!” And she did last night – her favourites are the Warhol platforms (incidentally, each shoe is named after an artist), but more on that later. Olivia Rubin for Dune is available in Dune stores and online now, with prices ranging from £65 for a multi-coloured pump to £110 for the statement raffia platform sandals – we suggest getting in there quickly, they’re set to go down a storm. Psst – watch our interview with Olivia here to find out more. [nggallery id=9]

Kate Moss misses the mark in mint

It takes a rare occassion to see Mossy out after hours these days (fiancee Jamie Hince seems to have tamed her partying ways a bit) but it’s even more unusual to see her stepping out looking less than fabulous. This weekend the super attended a dinner party in North London wearing a floor-length mint green gown and vintage fur coat, but the unflattering tight satin, the silver shoes and the mismatched fur combined to make one of most disappointing outfits to date. And don’t get us started on the hair and make-up. Matching your eyeshadow to your dress shouldn’t be done after primary school. An example, ladies, of vintage glam gone gone. Who are you and what have you done with Kate Moss? Of course, we want to know your thoughts. What do you think of Mossy’s look: is it mint or a total miss? [poll id=”57″]

AW11 trend report

We haven’t even started wearing our spring strings yet and already everyone’s talking about autumn – we don’t blame them, though, good things are coming to a closet near you next season. If you want to stay ahead of the frolic (and let’s face it, it’s no fun coming last), we’ve rounded up the hottest trends from the autumn/winter 2011 runways that you won’t want to miss. Stay psyched, we’ll be wearing them sooner than we’d like to admit… Spots Marc Jacobs, David Koma, Stella McCartney Go dotty, literally, for spots and circles next autumn as anything round rules the runway – perennial polkas and Dalmatian drops included. Marc Jacobs layered spotted separates and accessories, David Koma couldn’t resist adding pom poms and Stella McCartney’s laser-cut circles became infectious. Colour Jaeger, Roksanda Ilincic, Jonathan Saunders Good news if you’re a partial to a colour pop, the autumn runways picked up where spring stopped and sent a riot of colour to rival a rainbow. Reds add a contemporary edge to classic camels while vivid primary pops break up black and brighten warm autumnal shades. Monochrome Julien Macdonald, Giles, Louis Vuitton Not braving the bold? Try black and white, instead. When colour wasn’t clattering the catwalk, monochrome was making just as much of an impact, especially at Julien Macdonald where signature jewel shades were swapped for gothic blacks and at Giles and Louis Vuitton where bondage-style straps took the darkside to the depths of dominatrix. Texture Marni, Aquascutum, Fendi If you’re partial to sequins, suede and fur, here’s your chance to wear it all at once. Texture is all or nothing next season and more, as they say, is more. Sumptuous silks, soft fur, lace and leather team together for a luxe look, tweeds and knits offer a smattering of the countryside, […]

Henry Holland’s the latest in a string of cool creatives to team up with Range Rover for its Pulse of the City campaign, and over the past few weeks, he’s been hitting the streets of London’s east end to bring his Hoxton haunts to life – and shoot the images for his new lookbook along the way. Neat, huh? We put a few questions to Henry about the campaign, his inspirations for the shoot and what he loves about London during a behind-the-scenes documentary about the day. Tried & Tested: Ombre hair at Taylor Taylor

Good news, hair dos: ombre, dipped tips, light ends – whatever you want to call it – is still in for spring, albeit in a subtler style. With warm blondes ruling the runways this season, I, being a blonde in dire need of brightening thanks to the dullest of winters since records began, am in my element – not least because I now have a shiny new ‘do. Eagle-eyed fans will have probably seen a tweet or two last week when I headed to Taylor Taylor London, the capital’s leading celebrity salon, to put this trend to the test. After all, we’ve seen look great on Alexa and we’ve seen it work wonders on Drew, but does this faded look fare well on your average fashionista? You betcha – and unlike your traditional highlights, it doesn’t require root touch-ups, which makes it incredibly well-wearing (and better on the bank balance). I arrived at Taylor Taylor’s flagship salon in the heart of east London a little nervous – truth be told I have a slight fear of hairdressers ever since a fatal fringe accident in the Nineties – but excited about the outcome. I’d been looking a little mousey for months, and as my fellow blonde buddies will tell you, that’s not a creature you want to be associated with when you’re supposedly blessed with the colour people pay big bucks for. But, you know, as I relaxed on the black and gold striped chez lounge, ordered my cappuccino from the central black-studded bar and gazed at my modern art deco surroundings, I felt pretty at ease. Hopping in my gold armchair I sat and chatted to Hannah, Taylor Taylor’s top hair colourist, about how I should wear my new ‘lighter ends’ when I got them – messy’s best, FYI, which […]

Michael Kors opens his first store in France

American designer Michael Kors certainly has something to smile about these days after opening his first store in Paris on rue Saint-Honore yesterday – we’d be sporting a pretty huge grin too. The store’s within short walking distance from Colette and stands as his largest store in his 175-shop global chain, with an impressive 7,000 square foot radius and two storeys high – it definitely makes a fashionable impression on the Parisian front. Kitted out in gleaming white glass and chrome interior, with zebra-skin rugs and black and white photographs galore, it looks as if Michael has favoured the monochrome style touch for this one. Inside you can find all the treasures you desire from the designer’s complete collections, including his diffusion line, Michael by Michael Kors; his main line, and all his accessories, jewellery and fragrances. But as a little something extra – he knows how the French love their little pet pooches – Kors has designed a new range of dog-carriers in canvas and leather with matching leads, especially for his new store. And with his new Madison Avenue store now open on the corner of 67th street in New York, followed closely by his new London lifestyle store on Regent Street opening in two weeks’ time, reports the Telegraph, it looks as if the Kors empire hasn’t finished expanding just yet.

Christina Hendricks models for Vivienne Westwood

The curvaceous Mad Men actress, Christina Hendricks, has certainly bagged herself a winning high profile fashion campaign with this one, as news breaks that the fiery red head is fronting Vivienne Westwood’s Get A Life Palladium Jewellery Collection. Looking as glamorous as ever, the actress models the latest gems from Westwood’s jewellery line, said to be inspired by nature, pagan symbols and crafted from the precious metal Palladium- an element from the highly sought after platinum family. “Vivienne Westwood has always been one of my favourite designers, so it was a great honour for me to be asked to represent the ‘Get a Life’ Palladium Jewellery Collection,” explains Christina. “I admire that Vivienne uses her designs to inspire change and the pieces are just so wonderful. I love that there are dramatic pieces such as the tiara and the heart necklace as well as more simple pieces such as the acorn earrings. As Palladium is a naturally white metal, the pieces really sparkle under the lights and I cannot wait to wear them on the red carpet.” And it seems Christina’s love for Vivienne is equally reciprocated, with the iconic British fashion designer sharing just as much compassion for the Hollywood star. “Christina is the embodiment of beauty and we were delighted to have been able to involve her with this new jewellery collection. Her style is just so complimentary to my designs,” says Westwood. The collection is now available from Vivienne Westwood’s Conduit Street boutique in London as well as the LA boutique, reports SkyShowbiz. Read our report on Vivienne Westwood’s AW11 Red Label collection at LFW here.

Lunchtime buy: David Koma for Topshop halter dress

Mulberry’s star-studded woodland after party

Following on from yesterday’s fashion-filled morning of next season catwalk collections, British brand Mulberry continued its celebrations well into the night with an exclusive star-studded after party at London’s Claridges. Eager to get the party under way and beat the fashion crowd – remember previous seasons’ chaos? – we arrived at the ultra posh venue at 9pm on the dot and entered the ballroom filled to the brim with English countryside quirks and cute stuffed woodland creatures – Mulberry certainly knows how to run with a theme for its quintessential collections. Taking full advantage of the celeb guests on offer, we found ourselves rubbing shoulders with the likes of Gemma Arterton Jo Wood, Yasmin Le Bon, Kirsten Dunst, Rosamund Pike, Clemence Posey and an ever-hilarious Janice Dickinson whilst dancing to Kele’s live performance and eating classic English canapes like mini toad in the hole, chicken pie and scampi. But like the much loved Cinderella, we too had to cut the festivities short and leave by the stroke of midnight to avoid a bleary-eyed start to day four’s fashion week shows. Check out this video for all the action from Mulberry’s salon show and after party, and see our gallery below for the best-dressed stars.

Editor’s diary: what I’m wearing day 3

Wow, what a busy few days it’s been. Apologies for the lack of sartorial snaps, day 2 was particularly busy with the likes of Georgia Hardinge, Jaeger, John Rocha and Bryce Aime to juggle in the rain, so no time to take a picture of what I was wearing unfortunately (a blush organza applique dress, cropped biker jacket and my Preen Edition trench, if you must know). But here’s what I wore yesterday (day three) before the Mulberry party – a silk rust shirt dress layered over a vintage denim shirt, Office cork heels and my new must-wear velvet fox mask, courtesy of Mulberry, naturally. Today I’m particularly casual – too many hours spent in 4-inch heels yesterday has caused quite the foot ache – but will update you on what I’m wearing tomorrow when I’m off to meet Anna Wintour for a press briefing on the Met’s upcoming McQueen exhibition. Yep, you read that right. I’ll be back to fill you in tomorrow. In the meantime, stay tuned for all the gossip from last night’s Mulberry party…

All the action from the BAFTAs, Grammys and Brits

Cor, it’s been a busy week for awards, hasn’t it? Sunday night saw both the BAFTAs in London and the Grammys in Los Angeles welcome the biggest stars from the world of film and music onto their red carpets, and as if that wasn’t enough to satisfy our sartorial needs, the Brits took centre stage on Tuesday, too. In case you missed any of the action from the red carpet, we’ve rounded up the best bits from each evening to make sure you’re well in fashion’s loop. See below for our highlights… The BAFTAs From Emma Watson looking pretty in Valentino Couture to Jessica Alba looking cool in cobalt Atelier Versace, London’s Royal Opera House was awash with celebs stamping their style on the red carpet – oh, and there might have been something about Colin Firth winning Best Actor, too. Click here to see our 2011 BAFTA coverage The Grammys Los Angeles knows no bounds when it comes to serving up sartorial style at the Grammys, and this year’s 53rd annual award ceremony was no different. With the likes of Kelly Osbourne, Heidi Klum and Lea Michele topping our best-dressed list, there was little room for disappointment. Click here to see our 2011 Grammy coverage The Brits Well what do you know, it looks like London can throw a few style shapes too. Who wore it best? Vivienne Westwood at the 2011 Brit Awards

After the BAFTAs, the Grammys and the Elle Style Awards, you’d think we’d have had our fair share of red carpet action for one week, but last night London played host to the 2011 Brit Awards, and golden gongs aside, there was one clear winner of the evening, sartorially speaking – Vivienne Westwood. Though the Dame of British design didn’t turn up to the awards herself – for which she designed the statues, FYI – she dressed a plethora of stars that did. Singer and rising style-setter Ellie Goulding chose a nude floorlength silk gown from the Vivienne Westwood Gold Label’s SS10 collection, whilst ghetto popstar Jessie J and ever-eccentric Paloma Faith rocked a corseted emerald minidress and floorlength sequinned dress from Vivienne Westwood’s Couture collection respectively. But which one gets your vote? Let us know your favourite look below! [poll id=”35″]

Lady Gaga wears LCF MA graduate Dinu Bodiciu on the Tonight Show!

She may be channelling an early Michael Jackson, but Lady Gaga’s also supporting young London-based talent. Posing outside the NBC studios on Monday to meet fans before her appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Gaga wore a structured, sharp-shouldered scarlet two-piece by little-known designer Dinu Bodiciu, who showed his graduate collection at the 2011 London College of Fashion MA show just two weeks ago. Some starting block, right? Apparently Gaga’s stylist saw the MA show, loved Bodiciu’s collection and called a selection of pieces for the Lady to look through. You’ve got to hand it to her, that’s pretty impressive stuff. [Images]

David Koma designs for Topshop

You know when Topshop seals the deal with yet another designer collaboration it’s going to be an absolute corker, and their latest coup, the young, fresh and talented David Koma, is no exception. The collection, due to hit stores in a few weeks, reflects Koma’s signature structured designs, and inspired by the metal sculptures of William Pye, a technically-crafted cylindrical silver trimmed body-con dress accompanied by a backless metal tube waist belt are just a taster of what’s to come. “David epitomises the directional but feminine look that appeals to our Topshop girl,” the store’s senior buying director, Rachel Proud, tells Vogue UK. “It was important for the collection to stay true to the luxe element of his work, and to do this we needed to use premium fabrics and his signature shapes and metalwork. Fans of David’s work will not be disappointed.” The Central Saint Martins graduate got his first stylistic recognition after having won the college’s Best Womenswear Collection in 2007, followed by the Fashion Scout Merit Award and, this season, receiving NEWGEN sponsorship; it looks like Toppers are onto a winner again. ”Topshop signifies youth and modernity and its spirit evokes ‘cool London,’” says Koma. “It was really exciting to work with the Topshop team as I felt they understood me as a designer and appreciated my need to make a high quality product without compromising the design aesthetic, quality of fabric or finishing. They helped make my vision a reality and I’m thrilled with the result.” But if you want to grab a slick slice of Koma we suggest getting your skates on – the collection consists of five unique pieces, with just thirty of each available in stores and online.

Gemma Arterton in Kerry Nixon

Gemma Arterton was spotted twice last week wearing a gorgeous Kerry Nixon Belle coat whilst out and about in London town – and boy did the British beauty look stunning. We have to confess that we have a bit of a girl-crush on Ms. Arterton – can the girl ever do wrong? – so we don’t hold wearing the same coat twice in one week against her – frankly, we wouldn’t want to step out of it, either. After all, the Kerry Nixon coat looked perfect against her pale complexion, and whether styled off-duty or elegantly for evening, the sumptuous velvet cuff and collar detailing and elegant A-line cut altogether make one subtly sleek piece of outerwear for the season. No wonder she’s chosen it as her number one winter warmer.
