Read MoreLondon Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Bora Aksu, Felder Felder, DAKS & more
New York Fashion Week got us officially geared up for the autumn/winter 2014 trends, so we weren’t going to let a little (ok a big, inconvenient and suede-shoe-destroying but we’re fine, we’re over it) thing like rain stop us from flocking to Somerset House along with the equally drenched fash-pack to see what the first day of London Fashion Week had to offer. Felder Felder, DAKS, Eudon Choi, Bora Aksu and J JS Lee all showcased their new season creations to the fashionable London crowds, and didn’t seem phased by the pressure to make sure their collections matched the standard of those in the Big Apple. Tommy Hilfiger inspired us to go on a snowy, winter hike, and Jackie Lee has inspired us to go camping thanks to the new autumn/winter 2014 pieces we saw early this morning. There was an abundance of houndstooth and check print that adorned the casual, cool, practical but on-trend pieces, and the colour palette was kept understated. A far cry from her feminine, all-pink collection from last season, but isn’t versatility and the ability to create the shock factor what a good fashion designer is? We rest our case; well done J JS Lee! Eudon Choi got us all into the party spirit/gave us that Friday feeling thanks to the Rolling Stones soundtrack. Sex and drugs are optional, but rock and roll was essential! Legendary music choices aside, we saw lots of tartan on the catwalk (we told you, didn’t we?) although it came in a colder, bluer hue than the traditional red one we’re used to. The collection as a whole was a refined take on 60s fashion – and that’s something we got from the cigarette trousers, flared cuffs and print-tastic knitwear pieces as well as the aforementioned soundtrack. Oh, and you […]
Read More7 fab Fashion Month essentials!
For some people, February is all about Valentine’s Day, but for all the budding fashionistas in the world, the month of Feb is all about fashion. New York Fashion Week, London Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week – all four cities which have their own distinctive and irreplaceable style! So, dressing for Fashion Month – regardless of the city or how much show-watching you’ll actually be doing – has to be done right. You need to get the dressing for the chill and dressing stylishly balance just right. We think we’ve got it sorted with our seven suggestions below; what say you? 1. Ah the great Fashion Week footwear dilemma! Do you go for sky high heels to complement your cute dress and to be the same height as the rest of the ladies and models or do you go for comfort? Nine times out of 10 we would have gone for the former, but since flat shoes are loved by the likes of Alexa Chung and Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel, we think we’re going to go for flats this season. Plus just think how warm these boots will be? 2. The bag is probably one of the most important accessories. If you’re a high fashion magazine editor, a celebrity or someone who won’t be working at Fashion Week, by all means go for an adorable little clutch bag that fits a mobile phone and extra lippie – especially if you’re being chauffeured around from show to show. But for the rest of us who have to slum it and walk to shows, a good sized bag to fit everything from iPads to chargers to make-up bags to an extra pair of flats to food (yes we all need to refuel between shows) is absolutely vital! 3. […]
Read MoreSuki Waterhouse named Superga brand ambassador
Move over Rita Ora, Superga has a brand new leading lady, and it’s none other than Suki Waterhouse! Suki Waterhouse is slowly but surely taking over the fashion world; she’s already poses for Burberry, and now the spring/summer 2014 ad campaign for Superga is the latest fash project under her belt. Although Suki totally fits in with the British Superga theme, there’s a slight difference with the latest ad campaign… Superga has introduced Sprezzatura – the Italian art of looking good without trying too hard. It also explores how fashion industry insiders interpret Sprezzatura in their own signature style. Pretty cool, right? We think Suki Waterhouse is Sprezzatura personified! She has some pretty big shoes to fill as both Rita and Alexa Chung have appeared in Superga ads over the years, but we think Suki definitely holds her own. Do you think Suki Waterhouse makes a good brand ambassador for Superga?
Read More“Following a trend does feel quite oppressive” – Erdem Moralioglu
With Couture Fashion Week hitting Paris later this month, the autumn/winter 2014 collections making their runway debut next month and the current spring/summer 2014 a campaigns still doing the rounds, we will totally forgive you if you’re a bit overwhelmed with trends. But don’t worry too much, because Erdem Moralioglu doesn’t think they’re as important as they used to be! “It’s impossible to escape the idea that there are certain movements in a season – the same as there are with architecture and art – though I think the idea of simply following a trend does feel quite oppressive,” he said. “I’ve been obsessed with the way women looked since I was very young and was always either making dresses for my sister’s dolls or drawing them,” he continued. “I thought, ‘Can this obsession of mine become a job? Is it something you do?’ Eventually I discovered it was.” Erdem has dressed everyone from Alexa Chung to First Lady Michelle Obama, and certainly knows a thing or two about making women look and feel good, so we’re all too happy to listen to what he has to say. Not only is the proof in the aesthetic of his designs, but he also has a shiny Red Carpet accolade that he picked up at the 2013 British Fashion Awards at the end of last year. Do you agree with him re trends? It’ll certainly make updating our wardrobes easier and cheaper if we weren’t so influenced by the current trends, right? Let us know your thoughts! [Fashion Times]

Although Rihanna was announced as the brand new face of Balmain a matter of days ago (click here to check out the spring/summer 2014 ad campaign images in case you’ve been living under a rock all week and haven’t seen them yet!), we can’t help but think Rosie Huntington Whiteley would make a good spokesperson for the French brand too, especially if the pic above is anything to go by. The stunning British model wore a sexy, plunging black and white long sleeved mini dress from the spring/summer 2012 collection (seems like ages ago we saw that collection debut on the runway, doesn’t it?) while attending The AEM Association Children of the World for Rwanda in Paris earlier this week. Although we weren’t in attendance, we would bet good money that she turned heads wherever she went! She teamed her dress with some edgy black boots and a freshly blow-dried voluminous hairdo, not to mention some feline-esque eyes that Alexa Chung would no doubt be very proud (or maybe even jealous) of. Sex goddess, much? [Image]

So we’ve revealed who the lucky and worthy recipients of the big prizes were at last night’s British Fashion Awards, but now it’s time to dissect their red carpet style. Harry Styles proved that he earned his British Style award as he looked very dapper and charming in his Saint Laurent suit, while Alexa Chung showed us why Stella McCartney walked away with the coveted Designer of the Year award this time last year by wearing one of her white dresses. Other famous faces to impress us on the arrivals red carpet include model and actress Rosie Huntington Whiteley who went for a bold red Antonio Berardi number, while Rita Ora went vintage old Hollywood with her bedazzling Vivienne Westwood gown. It’s the end of an era; Poppy Delevingne has shot her last ad campaign for Vero Moda, and we have the final pics and video right here for you to glance at. Cara Delevingne’s older sis replaced Alexa Chung as the face of Vero Moda a year ago, and has done a cracking job modelling the beautiful new-season pieces. “We are very proud of this final shoot with Poppy,” said Katja Hundrup, a spokesperson for the brand. “It has really been a great year; she has been a pleasure to work with, and that is clearly visible in every single image of this campaign I feel that the good vibes from every shoot and the strong idea behind mixing architectural lines with fashion and femininity come together beautifully in this campaign.” We totally get why the Vero Moda gang are pleased with Poppy’s efforts, as she looks incredible posing in some of the shiny new pieces. There’s definitely a fair few party-appropriate pieces for the festive season in there. We’re going to miss you Popps – any clues on who the next Vero Moda girl might be? The nominations for the British Fashion Award’s Style Icon category are finally in, and we, the public, are going to have a pretty tough time choosing a winner this year. Some of the ultra stylish names to make the list include Kate Middleton (natch), the other Kate (that would be Kate Moss!), Helena Bonham Carter, David Beckham, One Direction’s Harry Styles, Cara Delevingne, Florence Welch and Carey Mulligan, among others. However, despite walking away with the award every year since 2010, Alexa Chung hasn’t been nominated. We reckon she’s been left off the list to give someone else a chance! If she’s still your number 1 style icon though and you want to vote for her, don’t despair as you can enter her name in the “other” category. All hope is not lost! Who will you be voting for? Read MoreMiley Cyrus to present Marc Jacobs with fashion award
She may not be everyone’s cup of tea – especially after her half naked foam finger/wrecking ball antics – but Miley Cyrus is easily one of the biggest (albeit controversial) names on the planet right now. The girl has a strong presence in the fashion world, and as a result has been selected to present Marc Jacobs and professional partner Robert Duffy with the prestigious ‘Superstar Award’ at next week’s Fashion Group International Night of Stars ceremony. Miley seems like the best person to present the duo with the accolade, especially as she recently credited Marc Jacobs for helping her with her dramatic image overhaul. “I work a lot with Marc Jacobs. He kind of brought me into fashion, like, when I was 16. That was when I started being around him and just learning from him,” she said in a recent interview. “He kind of let me inspire some of his pieces, and now I feel like it’s just having the right people around you.” The ceremony will take place at Cipriani Wall in New York on October 22nd. It definitely sounds like something we should be keeping a close eye on, as the likes of Alexa Chung, Kate Upton and Diane von Furstenberg are also said to be giving out awards too. We wonder what Miley will be wearing (or not wearing) for the occasion… [WWD]
Read MoreSaint Laurent Tartan Dress: Yay or Nay?
Oh, the joy! Remember when Hedi Slimane shunned all elements of a Parisian nonchalance and, instead, offered us Courtney Love on the runway? Yes, we’re talking about his unabashedly grunge-drenched autumn/winter ’13 collection for Saint Laurent. Plaid, tartan and sequins aplenty, fashioned into suitably louche (we call is glamorously lazy) dresses, knits and shirts, we couldn’t help but pick out a few winners from the collection. And one of the chosen designs that had us whopping with sartorial joy was this preppy (think Alexa Chung holidays in the Scottish Highlands) embellished tartan wool dress. Putting a razor shape slant on a classically feminine shape and style of dress, we love the mesh-lined knife pleats and sequin bow-detail neckline, not forgetting the spiked crystal embellishment at the waistline. But being the savvy shoppers we are, we’re going to take a rational approach to Californicating our wardrobes, by considering the yays and nays of buying this girly-goes-gritty number below: Yay Ideal length: The thigh grazing mini dress is ideal for pairing with tights, ankle boots and a cardigan for the full Saint Laurent effect. Or, wear it as a pleated mini skirt, by pairing with a cosy, block colour jumper. Day-to-night dress: The traditional tartan wool print is a great winter wardrobe hit, whilst the sweet-yet-tough embellishments wouldn’t put you out of place at an impromptu post-work party. Classic tartan: The runways were awash with tartan, plaid and all manner of check prints for autumn/winter ’13, but a classic tartan print never ages (and is possible more attractive than the laundry bag print celebrated at Céline.) Nay Trend-centric: Dreading the one-wear-then-despair situation? Although tartan is a cyclical trend, this was also one of the most talked about Saint Laurent collections. Figuring out whether you want a piece from a popular collection and […]

Loafers – a firm favourite footwear choice (try saying that really fast… quite tricky, no) of some of the most stylish celebs out there. Style maven Alexa Chung of course being one of them! The best thing about loafers is that they are not only incredibly comfy, but they are super-versatile, too. You too can channel the stylish celebs by incorporating loafers into your wardrobe – smart, casual, winter, summer – the possibilities are endless. Here are just two ways which you can wear Topshop’s Mardi Snaffle black and gold loafers: Option 1 Current/Elliot distressed skinny jeans, £235 || Black Mango crepe blazer, £39.99 || Equipment Nelly sleeveless silk blouse, £230 || B-Low The Belt Giselle belt, £126.76 Option 2 Topshop autumnal floral tea dress, £45 || Topshop Pork Pie hat, £25 || Coach brass/copper Penny shoulder purse, £195
Read MoreSuki Waterhouse flies the flag for British fashion in Mulberry dress
Doesn’t Suki Waterhouse scrub up well? We can definitely see what Bradley Cooper sees in her, even if we are a little bit jealous. (Just a little bit though…) The 21-year-old Brit model flew the flag for British fashion by opting to wear a gorgeous metallic emerald Aurora dress from the Mulberry autumn/winter 2013 collection while attending a British Airways event in Los Angeles last night. Suki’s sartorial choices are usually on the edgy side, so it doesn’t surprise us to see her in some tough ankle boots, a waist cinching black belt and feline eye make-up. Although we love the bed-head unsmooth hairstyle that so many of our fave girls sport (Blake Lively, Alexa Chung, the list is practically endless) we adore this sleek, slicked back pony tail that Suki is rocking. Especially as she’s working the two-tone ombre trend at the same time too. A great look that she put her own personal stamp on; we couldn’t ask for anything more!
Read MoreSmoking turns e-chic…or does it?
Some call it a sickening, oft-glamourised anti-health hype; others simply refer to it as “having a fag”. However you choose to approach the issue of smoking, opinion will always be fiercely divided, and medical reasoning will always be at the fore. But that doesn’t stop the rich, famous and beautiful from going about their daily lives with a cigarette hanging from their mouths – a bit like a trusty friend, who’s always there in time of (nicotine-led) need. From a bouffanted Adele religiously puffing away backstage, to Kate Moss’s infamous smoky saunter down the runway during the Louis Vuitton AW11 show; cigarettes have almost become a “Don’t mess with me” status-cementing symbol. (We daren’t mess with either Mossy or Adele, for that matter.) Given celebrities spend half their lives being famous, and the other half getting papped, cigarette sightings are, inevitably, going to be high for the smokers, and the tobacco industry has had to move quickly to introduce ‘health-friendly’ (a term open to serious interpretation) alternatives. With users in the UK now exceeding the 1 million mark, electronic cigarettes have picked up pace, recruiting famous converts such as Alexa Chung, Zayn Malik and Robert Pattinson, to name a few. But how do they work? The technology isn’t as puzzling as it sounds. Battery operated; e-cigarettes work by heating a water-based e-liquid solution until it turns into an inhalable vapour. In fact, tobacco-free and exempt from the UK smoking ban, e-cigs contain less of the harmful substances found in traditional cigarettes, and produce an odourless water vapour, significantly reducing the dangers of passive smoking. But is this still enough to convince the masses? Given we often covet and consume trends that the A-list pack adopt (cue: Katherine Heigl getting excited over the “bejewelled bottom” of her e-cig on the Late […]
Read MoreReflecting on London Fashion Week…(Spring/Summer 2014)
The hub of all excitable activity, and displaying a manner of dressing that even those residing across the Atlantic strongly envy (yes, those polished NYC queens), London is a melting pot of acceptance and crazy, annotated flower diagrams in the name of Christopher Kane. But given the shows are essentially work affairs, where buyers behind affluent retail names come to place hefty orders, and editors come to coo at what they’ll be instructing Testino to shoot in seven or so months’ time, was fashion week on point? Did the runway looks deliver and meet expectation? Here’s what we thought: Translatability Tom Ford’s show during London Fashion Week had us, for the first time, sitting up and thinking about how a shattered crystal dress arranged in a mosaic-like effect was ever going to appear on the red carpet. Or, would we see It mademoiselle Alexa Chung rocking a teardrop cut-out dress from Christopher Kane’s spring 2014 collection at some high profile shindig? Some of the clothes worked – like Emilio de la Morena’s relaxed-but-city-slick separates and even Topshop Unique’s impressive line-up of printed spaghetti strap dresses and curved, cropped shirts – when it came to mentally visualising them on ‘real’ people in the ‘real’ world, but the goth cyber chick at Mark Fast made it hard to maintain that focus. Out of touch? In a rather interesting piece rounding up the shows in London, Cathy Horyn made a very valuable point: “As I went around London, to places and streets filled with ordinary people, I had the sense, more than ever, that fashion here was taking place in vacuum. Do they care about Christopher Kane’s naïve drapes and twisted flower dresses? If the public doesn’t appear to be even remotely listening, whom are we talking to?” With street style running the gamut at […]
Read MoreAshley Madekwe steals the show at Longchamp Regent Street launch party
Miley Cyrus isn’t the only famous female to show off her washboard abs. Clearly the midriff-exposing fashions aren’t going anywhere anytime soon – at least not if Ashley Madekwe’s latest look is anything to go by! The stunning Revenge actress joined the likes of Kate Moss, Alexa Chung, Suki Waterhouse and Coco Rocha at the opening of the Longchamp Regent Street store at the weekend, and definitely stole the show in her expertly put together ensemble. Ashley rocked up in a cute Paper London top, a Temperley London skirt, strappy Saint Laurent shoes, and of course paid tribute to the store she was visiting by carrying the Longchamp 3D bag in a perfectly skirt-matching shade of brown. Minimal accessories, glamorous shiny hair and fierce red lipstick completed her attention-grabbing look. Now we have been shamed to the gym, so if you will excuse us… [Image]
Read MoreLondon Fashion Week SS14 Day 3 highlights
As always, the highlight of the day, nay, London Fashion Week as a whole, was the Mulberry show at the swanky Claridge’s hotel. We received a very sneaky preview of what to expect from the spring/summer 2014 collection via mood board (check it out here in case you missed it) so knew we were going to be in for a summery, floral treat. And the mood board certainly didn’t let us down! Emma Hill definitely made sure she went out with a bang wit her last collection at the helm of Mulberry. We even got a new, never-before-seen piece of arm candy too – the Kensal bag! This obviously won’t be the last you hear of that name, so watch this space! The Topshop Unique front row was probably the most star-studded of them all, with the likes of Kate Moss, Samantha Barks, Alexa Chung, Daisy Lowe and of course Miss Anna Wintour among the famous faces looking on adoringly at the new collection. The nineties were back with a vengeance if Topshop has anything to say about it, as are bare backs, loose-fitting tops and shorts, mirror-detailing (which was reflected – no pun intended – in the mirror invitations we received) and fun prints. Jourdan Dunn’s look above was definitely our highlight of the entire collection! Over at Kate Middleton fave Emilia Wickstead, block pastel colours were the obvious runaway theme in the collection; clean yet exaggerated cuts and silhouettes dominated. Another favourite of the Middleton family is Alice Temperley, who presented a show-stopping Temperley London spring/summer 2014 collection, which was reportedly inspired by a recent trip to Sicily. Regal, embroidery, crystal embellishments, structure, precision and intricate attention to detail – we wouldn’t expect anything less! Elsewhere in London, Mary Katrantzou presented another bright, colourful, intricate collection in her […]
Read MoreThe GQ Men of the Year Awards: the best dressed!
As we told you earlier, the annual GQ Men of the Year awards took place at London’s Royal Opera House last night. And while the awards were very much about the men – apart from the Woman award which went to the lovely Emma Watson – our attention was on the ladies walking the arrivals red carpet instead. What can we say, we’re suckers high fashion on the red carpet! We were very impressed by the girls’ sartorial choices. We loved Emma Watson’s Balenciaga outfit, as she really played to the ‘men’ theme by opting to wear trousers as opposed to a dress. Rita Ora did wear a dress though – an Etro one at that – and looked rather jaw-dropping. Daisy Lowe turned up the sex factor in a very daring Saint Laurent number which will probably cause a bit of a stir, while Rosie Huntington Whiteley and Alexa Chung kept it short and sweet in their respective Versace and Carven numbers. Take a look at all eight of our best-dressed ladies and let us know who gets your vote! Emma Watson in Balenciaga Rita Ora in Etro Rosie Huntington Whiteley in Versace Jourdan Dunn in Hugo Boss Alexa Chung in Carven Daisy Lowe in Saint Laurent Louise Redknapp in Valentino Jessie J in Persy Yaniv

The UK watched in excitement, shock, disbelief and shame (not necessarily all at once and in that order but we wouldn’t be surprised if it was) as more celebrity housemates entered the Big Brother house last night. But while everyone’s eyes were on the contestants, our eyes were on cute presenter Emma Willis, who looked pretty amazing in her monochrome getup. Didn’t she look good? Emma got that smart office worker meets chic, on-trend fashionista balance just right as she rocked a horizontal striped flared mini skirt by Robert Rodriguez, a crisp white shirt and a smart black jacket by Theory. Her cute brunette bob, Alexa Chung approved black eyeliner and winning smile completed her look, making her the best-dressed lady at the Celebrity Big Brother launch by a mile. [Image]

Congratulations to Kerry Washington, as the stunning actress has just been given the coveted top spot in Vanity Fair’s prestigious Best Dressed 2013 list. Do you guys agree with the magazine’s choice? Predictably, Kate Middleton and Victoria Beckham also made the list, coming third and sixth respectively. Other ladies who inevitably made the list are Gisele, Beyonce, Dita von Teese and Charlize Theron, who secured the seventh, 11th, 27th and 34th spots. The blogosphere has expressed its disappointment that Michelle Obama didn’t make the list, and we definitely feel the same way as the First Lady has been on fire this year as far as her sartorial choices are concerned. The red hot Jason Wu dress that she wore to the Inauguration Ball alone was best-dressed worthy, don’t you think? We’re also pretty miffed that the likes of Alexa Chung, Olivia Palermo, Jessica Alba, Blake Lively and Miranda Kerr were omitted given their enviable styles. Click here to check out the full list and let us know who else you think should have been included.

Ladies, don’t fear flats – flats are our friends! Not only are they super-comfy, and not only do they make running for the bus or train just that little bit easier, but they also look pretty gosh darn good with just about anything. They might not be our first choice for Glastonbury and other such muddy festivals, but when it comes to choosing a comfy pair of footwear for a brisk walk around London, a casual commute to the office, or a Cara Delevingne style tomboy chic look, they are there for us in their hundreds. To save you time, we’ve looked through those aforementioned hundreds and chosen five of our current favourite flats: 1. – Kate Middleton knows how powerful and leg-elongating a good nude heel can be, but that doesn’t mean a nude flat isn’t powerful either. Au contraire, this pointed flat is as elegant as it is versatile – we challenge you to find a harder working flat! She fronted the all-important British Vogue September issue back in 2011, and now Danish beauty Freja Beha Erichsen is back on its front cover, posing fiercely for Patrick Demarchelier’s lens for the August 2013 issue. And is it just us, or did anyone else do a double take when they first saw the picture above as they thought it was Alexa Chung? The hair, the perfectly sculpted cheekbones, the flawless skin and the winning smile did it for us; what do you guys think? We digress… this is another cracking cover shoot from British Vogue with excellent styling by Lucinda Chambers, and we can’t wait to sit out in the sun and flick through the pages while topping up our tans at the weekend. And on another note; we’re glad to see the models back on British Vogue‘s covers; we aren’t saying we didn’t love the Beyonce and Helena Bonham Carter fronted editions (au contraire they were two of our favourite issues of the year so far) but as models fronting fashion glossies is so rare these days, we loved the fact that we could get it from British Vogue. Will the mag go for a model for its September issue? Watch this space – not long to go til we find out!

Kate Middleton, Beyonce, Alexa Chung – what do all of these ladies have in common? Great hair? Enviable wardrobes? Big bank balances? Perhaps, but we are talking about their shared love of the Great British high street. Holly Willoughby is another style maven with a penchant for the high street – in particular Oasis! Holly was spotted on This Morning wearing a gorgeous turquoise lace dress from the popular high street store last week; and she loved it so much that she wore it again in a totally new (but just as gorgeous!) colour. She looked hot on both occasions, but we’re definitely swaying towards the yellow one she wore on Monday – is it because it reminds us of the sun that we love and miss so much? Probably! The dress also comes in navy blue – who wants to bet that she will crack that one out during the autumn? Click here to get Holly’s high street look for yourself!

After her Gossip Girl character Jenny ‘Little J’ Humphrey was dropped from the show, it’s all been a bit quiet on the old Taylor Momsen front. (She does have her band The Pretty Reckless which she is the frontwoman of, but it’s not really our cup of tea…) Models on the other hand are our cup of tea, which is why we’re quite excited to learn that she has just been signed to Next Model Management – one of the biggest agencies in the world – who has the likes of Alexa Chung, Jessica Alba, Rita Ora and Lana Del Rey in its books. “I’m excited about my new relationship with Next Models,” she said. “Next has great vision, and will be a fantastic partner in furthering both my music and fashion.” 19-year-old Taylor is no newbie in the modelling world, as she already has some impressive modelling gigs under her belt; she was the face of Madonna and Lourdes’ Material Girl clothing line and has appeared in ad campaigns for New Look and a John Galliano fragrance. We wonder what her first big project will be… [Telegraph]

It’s been a while since it was announced that Rita Ora would take over from Alexa Chung as the face of Superga, but now it’s finally time to check out her debut pictures in all their glory. On first glance, we’re actually pretty impressed with what the 22-year-old singer has to offer! What do you think of her efforts? Do you think she got some fierce posing tips from new BFF Cara Delevingne? A cute selection of blinding white and cooler grey Superga trainers are well and truly on display in the spring/summer 2013 ad campaign images, as are an abundance of musical props – no doubt to make the ads more personal to their new brand ambassador. We wonder how much input Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen – who were recently named creative directors of the Italian brand – had in the concept of the shoot… [Telegraph] [Images]

With Fashion Month speeding on, it was onto day three of the stylish festivities. Packed with major shows, including Temperley London, Mulberry and Jonathan Saunders, the fash pack were out in full force to absorb and delight in everything next season has to offer. Alongside spotting the fashions for next season, our front row radar was in overdrive, too! Alexa Chung looked resplendent sat front row at Mulberry (natch), joined by frow partner Lana Del Rey; Olivia Palermo at Temperley sporting a gorgeous pink clutch; Pixie Geldof looked print-tastic at Jonathan Saunders and, of course, the obligatory Wintour spot at Matthew Williamson left us in a state of awe-induced hyper ventilation (it happens every time)! So, here are all the highlights from day three of London Fashion Week: Mulberry In fashion time, it was relatively decent start to the day with an 11am Mulberry show at Claridges, and we have to say, we needed the lie in! Woodland wonderland-meets the Nineties was big at Mulberry, as skater skirts over cropped trousers made an appearance, along with oversized tweed plaids on statement en outerwear in a whimsical woodland setting, complete with Mulberry fruits and a jaw-dopping butterfly and wild flower installation that adorned the entrance to Claridges. Dark hues of deep emerald, wine tones and black reigned supreme, and Mulberry;s signature botanical-inspired prints were splashed across form-fitting dresses. Outerwear was the highlight for us; we could happily take home every coat we saw! Temperley London Temperley London is a Fashion Month favourite for us, and we couldn’t quite contain our excitement when we were informed that Hitchcock beauty Tippi Hedren was the source of inspiration. In a bid to move away from being associated solely with occasion wear, plenty of flirty cocktail dresses made an appearance, with an emphasis on a […]

In case you needed more proof that the Delevingne sisters are taking over the fashion world, feast your eyes on Poppy Delevingne modelling for Vero Moda. We know her younger sister Cara Delevingne is all over the catwalks, billboards and magazine pages right now, but 26-year-old Poppy doesn’t seem to be doing too bad either. We love her pictures, and think she is the perfect person to replace Alexa Chung (who also did a cracking job) as brand ambassador. “Poppy Delevingne adds lightness and femininity to the images, without ever losing her edge,” a spokesperson for Vera Moda said. “Graphic and minimalist locations were chosen for the shoot to create an eye-catching reflection of Poppy’s fresh look and the more stringent lines of the location.” There are some fab pieces in the spring/summer 2013 collection, especially some pinstripe Beetlejuice inspired trousers that we are all over. The perfect contrast to the feminine florals! [Catwalk Queen]

It’s safe to say, 2012 has been a positively chaotic year on many accounts: stealthy fashion musical chairs; the news of a 2013 royal tot, surprise (read: secret) weddings and a fair amount of heartbreak ensued. But one thing far more exciting than all of these juicy prospects combined is the FASHION we witnessed. From Miranda Kerr’s uber-stylish taxi-to-hotel hop, all endless, perfectly bronzed legs and the hottest off-duty ensembles imaginable, to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s ravishing red carpet looks, not forgetting some equally hot lingerie! Diane Kruger left us in a state of fash-induced hyperventilation, thanks to that Christian Dior couture gown whilst Emma Stone really established herself as the unturned stone (excuse the sorrowful pun) of fashion: she.looked.HOT. From Tom Ford to Trapstar, Rihanna has us on trend-led tenterhooks with every outfit she stepped out in, and Alexa, well, she’s just too stylish to even discuss, right? It was the probably the hardest thing we had to do – alongside trying to remember to use Saint Laurent instead of Yves Saint Laurent, and digesting news of R-Patz and K-Stew’s brief split whilst admiring her red carpet looks – but choosing our 10 best dressed celebs of 2012 was a limiting task. After much thought, picking and choosing, editing and loudly conversing (read: arguing) over frills, hems and necklines, we’ve whittled it down to our Top 10. Here’s to 2012’s best dressed ladies…. Read MoreWho won what at the 2012 British Fashion Awards…
Back in September, we revealed all the nominations for the prestigious 2012 British Fashion Awards, and now it’s time to find out which designers, models and fashion personalities walked away with accolades at last night’s event. The main prize was of course the coveted Designer of the Year award, with Stella McCartney, Mary Katrantzou and Christopher Kane battling it out against each other. Despite the blatant stiff competition, it was Stella McCartney who walked away with the prize, so a massive congratulations for all her achievements this year – and overall! Although we can’t argue the fact that both Mary Katrantzou and Christopher Kane have had tremendous years – probably the best in their careers so far – our money was on Stella from the start; we think the Olympics sealed the deal for her! And if the most coveted award of the night wasn’t enough for Ms McCartney, she also walked away with the Designer Brand of the Year gong! As you may have worked out, we are quite fond of 20-year-old Cara Delevingne, which is why we couldn’t be happier to learn that she was crowned Best Model. Another My Fashion Life favourite is Alexa Chung, who was the well-deserved recipient of the British Style award! Congrats, ladies! We also need to congratulate the wonderful Erdem Moralioglu for winning the New Establishment award, and Roksanda Illincic for picking up the Red Carpet award. JW Anderson and Jonathan Saunders also deserve a round of applause for walking away with the respective Emerging Talent (ready-to-wear) and Emerging Talent (mensweaer) awards. As we told you a few weeks ago, Manolo Blahnik was awarded with the Outstanding Achievement accolade, while Harold Tillman CBE, picked up a Special Recognition prize. Phew! 2012 has been an incredible year for British fashion; a huge congratulations […]

Remember that 1970 jumper that all the celebs from Kate Moss to Alexa Chung are obsessed with? Well, it’s creator Bella Freud is opening her first ever store at Bicester Village, which means you can see the jumper and many more of her gorgeous creations in the flesh. “A shop gives me the opportunity to create a little world and reveal the background to some of my ideas,” she told British Vogue. “It’s quite an intimate space and I have created lots of new products, such as Ginsberg Is God and Je T’Aime Jane scented candles, badges, kids dog T-shirts and lots of other desirable things. Bicester Village is incredibly well-run and has great marketing and outreach.” The pop up store is open until the middle of January, and you never know, Bella may get a more permanent residence sometime in the near future. The designer even hinted that she had her eye on Mount Street, so watch this space! Will you be popping in to check it out? [Image]

Read MoreLondon Fashion Week SS13: Highlights from all five days!
So we’ve officially waved goodbye to yet another season of London Fashion Week and we’re left with mixed emotions. We are partly welling up at the thought of leaving Somerset House and the surrounding fashionable areas for another season, while the other part of us is looking forward to kicking the heels off and slipping back into those trusty and far more comfortable flats. Somerset House cobbles that make it impossible to run to shows – we will not miss you! We won’t be forgetting the spring/summer 2013 season at London Fashion Week anytime soon though… here are our thoughts on the whole experience: Day 1 was our busiest, as not only were we tent-hopping in Somerset House and dashing to the Vauxhall Fashion Scout to check out the emerging designer talent too, but we also headed backstage to quite a few shows. We were presented with elegant, wearable and glamorous collections courtesy of Sass and Bide, Bora Aksu and Corrie Nielsen, as well as more dramatic looks thanks to Fyodor Golan and Carlotta Actis Barone. We loved the ballet dancing at Carlotta too – we might petition for more shows to have dance routines… what say you? Day 2 was a bit of a mix as we got to see some rising talent along with the big guns. The forties were back thanks to Tahir Sultan, which is definitely a trend we’re more than happy to get on board with. Sequins and fairy-tale inspired looks appear to be one of the big, recurring trends of the spring/summer 2013 season, which is exactly what Jeffrey Michael reiterated with his “from the water” collection. Hooray for fantasy! And of course House of Holland was as spectacular as ever – casual, bright, bold and with lots of attitude to boot. We wouldn’t […]

Yep, it’s the final day of London Fashion Week (sniff), and as the old saying goes, some of the best shows were saved til last… especially when referring to the Mulberry show that kicked off at 10am this morning! Those of you following us on Twitter will have already seen a few cheeky pictures that we took of the collection, the celebs, the gnomes (yes, there were gnomes), the complimentary rainbow cakes and even an adorable Mulberry-clad dog we met in the queue called Berry! However, now it’s time to get up close and a little more personal with the collection, as we’ve selected a few of our stand-out looks for you to gaze at below. We also attended the Ashish show this afternoon, which we thought was a perfect ending to a wonderful spring/summer 2013 season in London. Who: Mulberry What: Rainbows, watercolours – an “English summer” at its best. There was a bit of a mix on the Mulberry catwalk this season; we had a feeling we were going to get a colourful collection from the paint set invite, but it was a tasteful, refreshing bit of colour as opposed to something more wild and overbearing like in some of the collections we’ve seen this LFW. (That’s not to say we didn’t like them, au contraire we love a good burst of colour, but we love Emma Hill’s balance.) There was an abundance of leather in the collection, as well as relaxed shapes and silhouettes – perfect for summer! We saw new visions for the classic Alexa and Del Rey bags, and Mulberry also launched the Willow collection, which we’ll tell you more about at a later date. Highlight: We had the Mulberry Monster last season, and while we don’t think anything will top him, the little – […]
Read MoreThe slipper! To wear or not to wear? Now that is the question
While flicking through the Browns website earlier this week, I came across a lovely selection of slippers by Avec Moderation and was quite tempted to snap a pair up. Just before entering the crucial credit card deets though, I stopped in my tracks and had a mini epiphany… am I actually going to spend £200 on a pair of slippers? When do I even wear slippers? Would I let anyone see me in slippers? Surely if I had a hot date at my humble abode I’d be more tempted to slip into some six-inch heels. After all, I am not Hugh Hefner! Obviously the boys are all for a girl lounging around in sleepwear (read: sexy lingerie courtesy of Victoria’s Secret) but last time I checked, I don’t think slippers are part of that fantasy. I quite like the androgynous feel of these Avec Moderation slippers though; after all, the trend is totally in right now and Alexa Chung is a fine example of how it can be done right. Plus, it’s a known fact that the boys are hugs fans of girls borrowing their clothes, but this usually applies to a shirt in a post-coitus situation and sadly, I don’t think these slippers have the same effect. I’ve now got a flashback to that scene in Sex and the City where Samantha persuades Carrie to invest in those fluffy, heeled slippers to spice things up in the bedroom. Are these the 2012 version, do you reckon? I know I’m going round in circles now, which brings me back to my initial thought… when would I actually wear these slippers? There’s something quite Princess Jasmine/Arabian nights about the ones above which make it really tempting to make a purchase, but I can’t see them being everyone’s cup of tea. What […]
Read MoreFive Minutes with designer Thuy Duong Nguyen
With an acute ability to effortlessly blend cultures, it’s no surprise Vietnam-born, Germany-based designer Thuy Duong Nguyen’s fantastic brand, Thu Thu, is clocking up space in international glossies and the wardrobes of the fashion elite. Incorporating stunning Vietnamese embroideries, hand-crafted by women of the Hmong ethnic group from Sapa, a mountainous region in North Vietnam, into western silhouettes; Thu Thu brings an artisanal touch to a contemporary wardrobe. My Fashion Life caught up with the hotly-talked-about designer to discuss wardrobe staples, dream celebrities and the comfort vs. fashion dichotomy. What was the inspiration behind your spring/summer 2012 collection? A candy jar of colourful sweets. If you hadn’t become a fashion designer, what would you be? I always wanted to be a singer until I went to Germany’s biggest TV casting show when I was 16 years old. (Wow, that’s actually something that I’ve kept secret for years!). I obviously didn’t get through, so that took all my teenage hope of becoming a famous pop star! But if I think about it now, I guess I would have probably done something botanic or food related because I love exploring plants and trees. I also love good food, so maybe running a restaurant would have been a great alternative to fashion, but that might even be an option for the future. What are your wardrobe staples? I have two pairs of jeans that I always wear, a couple of loose cut t-shirts and some fancy embroidered vintage cardigans. The rest of my wardrobe is mostly filled with THU THU pieces. Who is your favourite designer and why? I don’t have a specific one, but I do like Chloé, Isabel Marant and Dries van Noten a lot. All three are very contemporary, but sophisticated and classic. Heels or flats? Why? Definitely heels as […]
Read MoreFive minutes with…PPQ
With a client portfolio that counts Rihanna, Alexa Chung and Sienna Miller as loyal fans, Amy Molyneaux and Percy Parker – the dynamic driving force behind the directional label, PPQ – must be doing something right. Awarded with being responsible for ‘spearheading the drainpipe jean revolution’, Amy and Percy took this pioneering approach across the realm of fashion, marrying it seamlessly with music. The design duo run a record label by the name of 1234 Records, and host the annual sell-out 1234 Shoreditch festival. My Fashion Life caught up with the creative twosome to talk favourite holiday destinations, music, and of course, fashion. Describe a typical working day in the life of the PPQ dynamic duo. Amy: A typical day consists of designing across several collections with responses to factories or meetings with suppliers or pattern cutters. Percy: Generally coordinating show details or planning overseas trips to meet buyers and press. With what inspirations in mind was the PPQ spring/summer 2012 collection conceived? Amy: Inspiration came from one of our archive prints, so SS’12 has a retro feel to it – It’s very nostalgic yet fresh and upbeat for summer. Percy: It was great to look back at some of the iconic pieces we have made in our 10 years. Tell us about your favourite holiday destination? Amy: It’s a semi-difficult question as a lot of the places we travel to are work related – even though they are good. I think the best place I go to where I leave my drawing behind is the North of Ibiza, but you never stop having ideas or being inspired. Other highlights are Antigua and Japan. Percy: Mauritius was a great autumn break at the end of last season. No jet lag and the most chilled out staff on the planet which […]
Read MoreAre British women the most conservatively dressed in Europe?
If you’ve watched even a fraction of an episode of The Only Way is Essex, Snog Marry Avoid or Geordie Shore, you may be scratching your heads at what we’re about to tell you. Apparently, British women have been regarded as some of the most conservatively dressed in Europe, which is quite an interesting statistic to say the least. Allow us to explain… Parisian fashion house ‘Georgede’ recently conducted a survey, and the results were quite intriguing. According to the research, most of us British women tend to cover up their arms, cleavage and legs (above the knee) more than our Eurppean cousins, while Brit skirt hemlines are on average 10cm longer than those in France and Italy. Georgede’s MD Phillip Bendavid thinks we have two very famous Kates to thank for that. “Kate Middleton and Kate Moss are leading the charge,” he said. “Kate Moss’s recent comment that women should cover up more is very much a reflection of what is happening in the UK. The Duchess of Cambridge is also definitely influencing the way British women are dressing. For example, you never see her inappropriately dressed. She covers up those areas that women are very conscious about.” We don’t think Kate Middleton is “covering up” because she feels self conscious though… not with a figure like hers. Still, we find the results relatively interesting. We’re not questioning their accuracy but… 10cm longer hemlines? Really? Thoughts, please… Ps: we also thought Alexa Chung was a great ambassador for looking great while covering up, hence the pic! [Daily Mail]

Earlier this week, British Vogue speculated that Mulberry’s Del Rey bag might just be the luxury brand’s most popular piece of arm candy yet… and while we think the fashion Bible might just be right if current sales and interest are anything to go by, it got us thinking about celebrity bags and the inspiration behind them as a whole.
