Attending the Live Grammy Nominations Concert on Wednesday night in Los Angeles, Katy Perry looked every inch the glowing festive angel in a stunning red carpet Couture gown from Georges Chakra. The newly-wed showed off her envious figure to perfection in this gorgeous hip-hugging gold shimmer dress, complete with a chic knee length cut and sexy off-the-shoulder finish. Making sure all eyes were on her dress, Katy teamed her look with nude silk stilettos but try as she may, Mrs. Brand couldn’t hide her huge radiating grin – and we don’t blame her, after all, getting nominated for Album of the Year would certainly bring a cheeky smile to our faces. Congratulations, Katy!

Florence Welch in Givenchy Couture
It’s the biggest celebration of music and Sunday night it was the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards held in Los Angeles. One lady high on the fashion radar at this year’s awards was British beauty Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine, and although she didn’t win eight awards like rival Lady Gaga, she still managed to pull off a dramatic look wearing a Givenchy Haute Couture lace dress from the AW10 collection. The songstress stayed true to her vintage vibe with this glittering gold long sleeved floor-sweeper, and nipped in by a satin corset at the waist with zip detail down the front, Florence gave her elegant look an element of sexiness. Whilst this style on some could look a little washed out, the muted metallic tones work beautifully with Welch’s red lips and fiery locks – and with minimal accessories (just matching shoes and clutch), we think this style is spot on for the singer.

The singer – clad in a vintage black lace cone-bra dress from the designer – was in the crowd at Paris Couture Week for the golden age of Hollywood-inspired show from the man who will co-style her forthcoming North American tour. Models were made up in the style of classic screen sirens including Joan Crawford, Marilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo and Rita Hayworth, and took to the catwalk to music punctuated by dialogue clips and film soundtracks of the era. John Galliano sent models down the catwalk in their underwear at the first day of Paris’ Couture Fashion Week yesterday. The ‘Fever in the Cabine’ Christian Dior collection was inspired by shows put on in the 50s, and featured models in jackets and knickers, and skirts and bras. Galliano was inspired by a picture of Dior backstage at a show surrounded by models hurriedly getting dressed. He attempted to recreate the mayhem on stage, with the couture outfits available to order as sets. Britain’s Daily Telegraph newspaper reports: “A lilac, wide-collared jacket was worn with seashell-pink lace ‘tap’ pants and an orange satin ‘tulip’ skirt with a vintage-style, 50s black bra. Lace knickers, suspenders and stockings were paired with a dramatic, black-and-white, zebra-print jacket. A leopard-print sheath dress was open at the bust to show an elaborate black lace bra.”

Contemplating Couture – Spring 2007 highlights
Over the past week we have seen some of the most exceptional designers of our generation allow their creative imaginations to run wild in honour of the very privileged few that can afford to spend on them – yes, it’s been Paris couture week, the most glamorous of them all, and I’ve had the lucky task of rounding up our favourite moments and creations for you. Our top three shows were Christian Dior, Armani Prive and Christian Lacroix, and here’s why: John Galliano for Christian Dior took a trip to 1920s Kyoto with a parade of red-lipped geishas gliding along in towering platform wedges and impossibly figure hugging skirts. The overall look was almost painterly with shades of cherry-blossom pink, oriental jade and a black that could have come directly from an ink pot , feminine and unashamedly sexy.

Couture Launch
Nine designers, three fashion shows and one Couture definitely makes a launch party worth remembering. Couture, the provider of new fashion experiences, launched on Thursday 11th at the Light bar in Shoreditch (London) where a union of fashion, style and partying was on the agenda for the evening. In addition to music, socialising and a general festive atmosphere, the nine designers were given the opportunity to display their work to consumers and London’s fashionista. “The crowd is so diverse. ” Said Esther Williams, one of Couture’s core team members, “but they all have one thing is common, a love of fashion” The first of the shows focused on designers from London’s top fashion schools including ‘Central St Martins’. Each label showcased fresh and innovative pieces for women from a generation of new fearless and imaginative designers. The labels on show were Sunny Park (Sun-Hwa Park), Iron Curtain (Luda Gelbutovskaya), Nicolerenee (Renee Christopher) and Labeija (Ian Labeija). Emerging male models took centre stage for the second show. Dressed in the urban uniforms of Batlow (Mark Bajade & Timothy Ross-Watson) and Patrick Kevin they filled the runways with an air of strength and defiance. In between the two male designers came the surprise female swimwear section by Antoinette Olivia, featuring bags by Urban Knit. Each bag, a union of European and African influences, represented the cultural diversity of the designers Dolapo James & Dayo Omikunle. Encompassing the entire third show, the undoubted star of the launch was Prangsta, by designer Melanie. Accompanied by a classical violinist, her theatrical pieces mesmerised the crowd with a magical magnetism. Melanie’s collection covered everything from princess to pauper, with the rags to riches feel captured in pieces almost grandiose in their design to others with exuding vintage chic. The Prangsta show only added to the overall […]

We completely support anyone who demonstrates a love for the art that is couture and the FT has an article detailing exactly why couture will never die. This art – and it is an art – is about clothes, about construction. Read MoreChoosing the Ideal Woman’s Bag: Timeless Class and Bespoke Elegance
There is no reason why functionality and the latest fashion trends should not be able to enjoy a hand-in-hand relationship. If you’ve been searching for a purse or handbag intended to compliment everyday concerns, it’s important to address a handful of key factors. Let’s see what the professionals have to say. What’s in a Name? It is always possible to encounter fashion accessories associated with decidedly generic overtones. While these could represent cost-effective options, they will hardly leave a lasting impression. Those who are instead keen to remain well ahead of the fashion curve will instead opt for a women’s bag produced by traditional artisans (such as those currently employed by the Maison Longchamp family). The takeaway point here is that discerning tastes are associated with top-notch manufacturers. There is hardly any room for cookie-cutter designs; especially for those women who are unwilling to leave anything to chance when it comes to contemporary style. Less is More The 1980s and 1990s were often associated with somewhat gaudy fashion accessories, and while appropriate in the past, times have certainly changed. One of the latest trends is associated with a decidedly minimalist approach. After all, a one-off accessory such as a handbag should never overwhelm your entire ensemble. Spartan designs are also utilitarian in nature; providing you with a sense of practicality that might not be possible with over-the-top bags. When in doubt, it could be better to stick with the basics. Bigger Might be Better As the style gurus at Vogue note, oversized women’s handbags have enjoyed a significant amount of attention in recent times. We are not only referring to the ways in which they can be used to accent other elements of your wardrobe. It is important to remember that functionality now plays a central role. As females lead […]
